    Also Nolan being a brand or not, Oppenheimer was helped ENORMOUSLY by having likeable, social media-friendly stars like RDJ, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh relentlessly promoting it for several weeks before its release.....same with Barbie.....Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and several others were making the rounds for weeks before it came out.
    Killers of the Flower Moon also didn't have that advantage as it came out during the strike.

      I figured once they dipped a toe properly it would be a billion dollar dip haha. But to think 2023 was the tipping point is wild for me cuz this is the stuff that I grew up with for once. I feel nostalgia'd out hahaha it's been a lot. Halo, Sonic, Fallout.. that's enough slices

    • @Vynzent
      @Vynzent 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I can see Nintendo continue the trajectory because all they have to do is make something that looks like their games.
      Mario was mostly spectacle and cheap (but effective) nostalgia.
      Mattel, on the other hand, has a difficult road ahead. Barbie was lightning in a bottle and the opposite of Mario. It did as well as it did because it was a very human story worthy of acclaim and not a story about Barbie just having a Barbie adventure.
      I hope we do see them make more movies with ambitious storytelling but it's very hard to pull off over and over.
      I'm definitely excited to see a trailer for their next project of course.

    For the love of Pete, Grace, no one is seeing Godzilla Minus One for political reasons. They are seeing it, and going back to see it again, because it is an incredible piece of storytelling. Godzilla himself could have been replaced by any other ecological or monstrous disaster and the human element would have made it as amazing. Godzilla is just icing on the cake to us kaiju fans. Also, again, you say that Hollywood need to be more subversive with their messaging when they need to keep their opinions mostly to themselves. Audiences tolerated messaging when it was coupled with superb films. No one went to the movies to be preached to, a thing you folks just can't seem to wrap your minds around. Just concentrate on creating compelling stories and the audience will respond. Just like they did with Godzilla Minus One.

But the more one watches interviews and analysis of the media, the more nuance and messages can be ascertained. Each origin film has a new take on how disaster can be from God or our own hands, it's just incredible.

    Disney owns copyright on loads of public domain characters from folk stories like Cinderella, Snow White, and The Little Mermaid. It doesn’t stop other people from making movies or merchandise based on the characters but they can’t utilise the Disney designs. If Disney cannot control copyright on the character of Mickey Mouse, they will copyright certain treatments and designs of him, then those will be protected. As long as they are making the ‘iconic’ versions of the character, they will still maintain control of Mickey within the popular zeitgeist, as they do with their Princess characters.
