This is the true story of a cable car accident in China in 1998. The parents held their two
year old son above their heads whilst the car fell to break his fall. The boy survived but the parents were killed. The song is written as though the boy is telling the story. The lady who wrote the song later adopted the child. 😍

You are right that this is an emotive song! The subject matter concerns a cable car accident which took place in Guizhou Province, China in 1999. A cable car unthreaded from its pulley mechanism due to sudden high winds and the car was left dangerously suspended in mid-air. Rescuers rushed and fought to remove the passengers from the car. A couple had just lifted up their 2 year-old child to rescuers when the final cable snapped and the cable car fell the equivalent of 8 stories to the valley below killing both parents. Han Hong, the composer and original artist of “Daybreak,” was so moved by the story that not only did she write the song, but she adopted the child!
Listen to the song again with this back story in mind. You will have a totally different reaction and appreciation for Dimash’s incredible story telling performance as he sings from the growing child’s perspective!

Oscar Govea...wow I recently stumbled onto Dimash and his videos via here on utube. The first song I heard him sing was “live” SOS at the Slavic Bazaar. O-M-G! I had to replay it about a dozen times...and I still never get tired of listening it and the phenomenal range and inspirational quality of his voice. I have read many comments about Dimash on his videos but I have to “I have never enjoyed reading anything about Dimash as much I did reading your comments on this video”. Oscar you covered absolutely every possible...and wonderful...facet of Dimash that could possibly be covered in a single comment. I thoroughly appreciated every word of it. I don’t how it could be done or if it is even possible. But if it possible you should find a way to post your comment so that it appears on every one of Dimash’s videos....for ALL the world to see! Oh lord, this song is sung straight from his heart. The back story to this is tragically sad and the way he delivers it, as if sung by the little boy is just masterful. When dimash sings there are certain criteria Is there. He likes songs that move him , like this one that has a back story. He also takes inspiration from poets. And of course songs that are written specifically for him. In this performance if you read the lyrics you will see it’s a painful song. Dimash sings it from the perception of the child as well as the adult who still grieves for his parents. It’s heartbreaking and yet beautiful to listen to .

Get your Dimash videos from his channel and from fancams etc. Do not do 'The World's Best' at all!!! and Dimash was never on any shows other than 'The Singer' from China that you should ever pay attention to. Thank you so much for doing 'Daybreak' Bastau! This performance is so emotional, dynamic, and incredible. No one on the planet could do what he did here! This is a true story about a tragic cable car accident, where the parents of a 2 yr. old boy, held him up to use their bodies to cushion their child as they fell to their deaths. Han Hong, a famous Chinese singer heard of the boy and wrote this song. She then went on to adopt the boy. Dimash heard this song and was so touched by it that he asked her if he could sing it when he competed on 'The Singer' and she said yes. But Dimash became very ill and lost his voice before the performance and had to get neck injections. He performed and it was very emotional, but painful for Dimash, who lost his voice right after performing. This performance in his Bastau concert is after that and he is not sick and this is a stellar, mind blowing performance by Dimash of 'Daybreak'. The whole concert from Bastau is stunning, and you can review anything from it and be rewarded! Thank you for doing this one and for being so conscientious in your choices of what to react to .

I've heard quite a few Dimash reactions online, and it's interesting that reactors who are rap fans or rap musicians all immediately tune into what he's doing. Despite his music genre being very different from what they usually prefer. What I think they are responding to is Dimash's vocal control. Dimash's control is amazing, and it's always the first thing mentioned by reactors who are classically trained.
Rap music doesn't focus so much on melody and pitch progressions, but it depends heavily on control. Without control, rap music becomes incoherent and the emotional connection scatters out. So I think rap music aficionados appreciate great control, in music and other activities. Emotional projection via control is the common factor.
Dimash realizes this, he gets the emotional projection in rap. He's worked with rap musicians (Victor Ma) and he's included rap sections in some of his own singing performances. You may enjoy to react to those.

Use Gloria Wu's YT channel because it has English subtitles and the back story to the song. Be sure and turn on the CC bottom so it is all translated. Di was 22 years old at the time and quite ill at this point in the competion. He did well , considering the circumstances but you will see that the Bastau version you just watched was truly incredible!

She read about a horrific cable car accident in Maling Canyon, where an overloaded cable car fell from the top of the canyon and crashed on the cement pad below, killing 14 of the 36 passengers and severely injuring the rest. During those few moments of free fall, a young couple instinctively raised their 2-year-old son above their heads, hoping to cushion the impact of his fall. The parents did not survive but the child did so, with only a small bruise on the lip. Han Hong was deeply moved by this story as she herself grew up as an orphan. She sought out the boy, and ended up adopting him. This song describes a conversation between them.
