It's the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, who invited different artists to play with them at a park arrangement. In this case the band Procol Harum. The song came out in 1967. You did already listen to that orchestra in "The Godfather" and other songs........

The song came out in 1967 and was a big hit. Gary Brooker had a phenomenal voice. He unfortunately passed in Feb 2022 at the age of 76. He was 61 in 2006. Conquistador was another popular song of theirs but my favorite (you should react to it) is A Salty Dog from the same concert.

The meeting of two genre's at a castle in Denmark produced what music is all about, a sound that raptures the soul of a listener. Gary Brooker, an Englishman, introduced this song to the masses in 1967 and this performance in 2006 was when he was 61 years old. Sadly, he passed away last year at 76 years old. Besides Gary's voice the quality of the melody is enhanced by the special organ which must accompany the delivery of the song. The overall production was a work of art and congrats to whomever put it all together.

This was recorded at a real castle (not the one they are sitting in), the production was by DR, first Danish radio & TV station.
It is al their orchestra playing - the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, and also their choir.
The Danish National Symphony Orchestr have their own TH-cam channel, under the name DR Koncerthuset. It's mainly classical music, big band, choir etc. They do a lot of theme music there, like from movies and video games.
The channel has something like half a billion views, which is pretty good, concidered the genre they represent.
It took DR 3 years to convince Procol Harum, to make a DVD out of this concert, and this is why you can now find all the songs from the concert, on TH-cam. Somebody ripped them from the DVD, and uploaded the songs here.

Thank you very much. Denmark must be very proud of the Symphony Orchestra and Choir and I'm sure people from all over the world are enjoying their music as well. @@akyhne

They were usually categorised as Psychedelic Rock or Progressive Rock. Gary Brooker himself described them as just a "blues band with some posh chords". I think his tongue must have been firmly in his cheek!

Think “Pro-Cull Harum” for the band’s name. A wonderful song from the ‘60s. Gary Brooker is the singer from the band.

    BEAUTIFUL!
    Step 1 - Orchestra prelude
Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra
Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir
“A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single
    ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
*PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.
In the same concert you should also listen a great version of "Salty Dog" th-cam.com/video/3Gi7Z3-T_qQ/w-d-xo.html ... it will be a magical experience...

This was filmed at Ledreborg Castle in Denmark w-the Danish National Concert Orchestra. There are some misconceptions surrounding the meaning of the song - see th-cam.com/video/Pf73XwiZIFQ/w-d-xo.html for the interview w-composer/lead singer Gary Brooker & writer Keith Reid. Gary was founder of the band began in '67 & he passed away in Feb. 2022, Keith passed in March of this yr. It is also said that Reid was "going to reveal the true meaning before he died" but he died before he explained anything. Many people believe it was about a drunken one-night stand. Contrary to popular belief, the song is not a direct copy or paraphrase of any music by Bach but was inspired by & does reference Bach's "Sleepers, Wake!" and "Air on the G String!" As per Reid, the line "as the miller told his tale" is definitely not a reference to Chaucer's Miller's Tale. Reid has repeatedly explained he'd never read The Canterbury Tales when he wrote A Whiter Shade of Pale. Procol Harum is supposed to have been the name of a friend's cat - the name is a mis-spelling of the Latin phrase Procul Harun (roughly meaning "far beyond these things"), or that it was a corruption of Procellarm, a vast ocean on the Moon. In Roman Times Vestal Virgins were priestesses and acquired their name after Vesta. the noddess of the hearth and home to keen the home fires burnina. It was their duty to not only remain a virgin for 30 years but they were to keep Vesta's sacred fire burning. Thank you.

Love this song. I actually prefer the studio version from the 60's as it is the one I grew up on. This live version is very good though as it shows how powerful Gary Brooker's voice was even as he got older. "Conquistador" is another great song by Procol Harum. Sad to hear of Gary passing away last year.

Hey D, their studio stuff was giant back in the late sixties and to late seventies, the height of the Progressive Rock movement. Guitarist Robin Trower played with him. A madman on that ax. Look for " Whiskey Train" , "Conquistador", "Simple Sister", and "Salty Dog" on the Tube to get just a taste of what they were about.

There are three more of those tents in Stockholm, built (in cupper) in 1787-1790. Intended to look like military tents from the Roman time, 1500 years from now. No ballons.
On parties when I was in High School, 50 years from now, this song, with the very same singer, used to be "the last dance".

Hey can you react to NSL (Nass, Schweiss, Lecker) by Till Lindemann or is it going to give you copyright problems? It’s a pretty long video also 18 min I think but I bet you’d really like it

The band that named themselves after their drug dealers cat.

    • @karehelene
      @karehelene ปีที่แล้ว

From Wikipedia "The group named themselves after a male blue Burmese cat, which had been bred by Eleonore Vogt-Chapman and belonged to Liz Coombes, a friend.[13][14] Stevens suggested the group name themselves after the cat, which the group immediately accepted.[15] However, the cat's pedigree name was in fact Procul Harun, the Procul being the breeder's prefix,[16] but the name was taken down over the telephone, causing a misspell.[17] Although people informed the band that the name is Latin for "beyond these things",[10] this is incorrect as the correct term would be procul hīs.[18]"
