    Classic blue, mint motif and Wimbledon is my “holy trinity”, and of course they must be fluted and in jubilee. 👌

    I see your point abou the fluted bezel however I do find the smooth more attractive with the motif dial. The fluted with motif just feels a bit too busy where the smooth seems to frame the dial and out it front a center.

    A few months back I configured the exact DJ I wanted. 41/smooth bezel/mint green on a oyster steel bracelet. So, a different choice to the recommendation here. It’s all down to personal choice , of course. There’s no right or wrong.
    I’ve been fortunate to purchase the watch I configured from a local AD.

    Just got myself a Datejust 36 black dial fluted jubilee from my local AD. It’s nice and probably easier to get than the blue or green dial variations. The black dial goes well with a variety of outfits, both formal and casual, and is more understated, drawing attention more to the sparkle of the fluted white gold bezel rather than to the dial.

    I'm biased because the DJ36 in the blue dial/jubilee/fluted bezel was my very first Rolex back in 2020 and I have loved it ever since first seeing a vintage 1601 that my uncle wore. The Blue DJ is just such a classic imo but I guess you can't go wrong with green either especially if that's favorite color.

    I haven't seen it in the steel yet, but the sales associate at a local AD planted the idea of a Datejust with the Jubilee bracelet, domed bezel and the fluted motif dial.
    On Rolex's online configuration tool, it does appear stunning; the domed bezel seems to make you focus on the dial more.

    For several years wore the stereotypical DateJust: two-tone Jubilee bracelet, champagne dial, fluted gold bezel, etc. but I now wear an all stainless steel DJ, Oyster bracelet, smooth bezel, with blue sunburst dial. I found the two-tone DJ to seem a little ostentatious, and much prefer the understated simplicity of the blue DJ which really flies under the radar.

  • @g43654
    @g43654 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Some people say the Wimbledon dial is the best or the second best dial that you can get, next to the green or blue. It's a cool dial, but legibility wise, it's pretty rubbish. It takes me twice as long to tell the time.
    Blue is best if you want to use it as an actual timepiece. Having said that, I haven't actually seen a blue dial in person.

    • @rafaeloliva6425

      The blue is the way to go, if your actually going to wear it. Green is just not as versatile as the blue. I have the DJ 41 in azurro blue and is beyond amazing. Green might be someone elses cup of tea, but blue is the hot set up in my opinion.

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These watches are so diversely different it would depend on what circumstances you intend to wear the watch. Although, I would never go for a 41mm DJ unless your wrist is at least 7.5 inches, as the watch in that size is large on most wrists, which the 36mm would be a better fit. If you seek a more casual and sporty watch, the Sub is the obvious answer.

  • @spirro-eg1yl
    @spirro-eg1yl ปีที่แล้ว +3

    IMHO, after owning Rolex, AP and Patek for 20 years, wait for the actual model you want and not buy the in-between. Prices are now falling. Better off buying the Submariner from grey market than playing the game. I have spent 10s of thousands on the wife at the AD and I still wait for a GMT for my older son. I also, have a blue dial Date-Just requested (nothing is ever on order) for my younger son. There are tonnes of people like me, on top of the crypto-bros (thinking watch trading is the next career). I have had horrible experiences with trying to trade my watches. No matter what watch I have ever tried to trade in, the AD or dealer (unless unworn with stickers) will always quote you a spread wider than a lorry to drive through. I have had dealers tell me Subs, Royal Oaks, Calatravas are not worth much. One dealer even refused to look at my great condition 40MM Sub no-date saying, "I cannot sell that." It will literally drive you to drink.

    Omega used to make a 36 mm. version of the famous 300 diver - the Pierce Brosnan one. Perhaps he should look into that if he wants a smaller dive watch. If it isn’t available he might find one on the secondary market.

      Tudor have just released the Black Bay 54 which I believe is about 37.5mm in diameter. It also has an automatic movement over quartz. In terms of finishing, it tends toward the faux vintage appearance, which might put some off.

    It's probably me, but I find the blue fluted dial with fluted bezel a tad on the overkill side. I enjoy the fluted dial, but why not go with the smooth bezel? Less complicated visually. Also, if I'm nitpicking, I'm not sure I like the roulette date wheel, to be honest. It just looks gimicky in my opinion. Sorry.

It is for his 18 birthday, which will be in 2025( so it is in the safe for now). I hope to continue a family tradition. I got my airking when I turned 21, and later had it on my wrist at my wedding. . My wife know wears that watch. So buy the watch you like, not for an investment. Nothing against the DJ as I do like them, but I don’t think it will hold value as well as a Sub No Date. Obvisiously, you’ll have to wait a tad longer for the Sub vs DJ. Its most certainly not "all about the fluted bezel". It's what you want it to be; not what someone else thinks it should be. Fluted and Jubilee is dressier. Flat bezel and Oyster is less dressy. Buy what you like.

    When buying a watch you should ensure the lugs dont over hang the flat part of your wrist. Many in the comments say only get the 36 but then most seem to have smaller than average wrists . According to figures ( if they can be belived) the average wrist size in uk is 7 1/4 (18.4cm) . The datejust is not a true dress watch although many use it as though it is .

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The ideal situation is that the lugs should not overhang you wrist.
      I would suggest you may be adrift with your suggestion that 7.25 is an average wrist size, although I’m sure it will be climbing with the increasing levels of obesity in the UK and other highly developed countries.
      If it assists, I am a pretty average size male and my wrist is 6.5 inches.

    • @PabloTBrave

      @@TheChapsGuide you maybe right, the stats didn't identify how many people it tested to come by that figure. My wrist is just over 7" and I'm 5'7 (so smaller than average height) but I did spend many years competitive swimming, then many more years doing martial arts .

    I think that the green or the plain blue will have better (cringe) value retention over the blue motif. The chap may be in for trouble if he thinks that a DJ is a way to wear a savings account. He sounds very keen on temporarily settling for something completely different from what he wants. Regardless, watches can act as sirens luring our ship closer and closer to danger. Because the Explorer is boring. I have the Mint 41 on smooth bezel + jubilee combo. I can wear it with anything without getting to obsessed about outfits and I rather eat fluted bezels than to forfeit my denims and Vans kicks for moccasins. I don't do yuppie or yacht boy toy polo shirt outfits as they don't fit my style. I also am not a fan of precious metals over EDC items that get abused by life and I don't really like the shine of it.
    This sort of question introduces a strange fanboy gatekeeping and most forget that different people have different tastes and not everything will be liked just "because this is the norm".

      @@Master-xl9msif you know any Rolex history then you know the original size of the Datejust is 36mm. The 41 is a modern sizing aimed at men. But 36mm is the way to go imo. Very classic and therefore timeless. Much more dressy, but at the same time can also be worn with anything. A real GADA watch!

      I tried them both. Definetely the 41mm is for me as an everyday watch. I agree 36 is dressier but for that case I would buy a leather strap dress watch with a smaller case.

      Only certain individuals wear oversized watches like women's bracelets! Men wear watches differently. Never oversized!
