    This is as good and accurate a review of the Cayman T as you’ll find on TH-cam. Nice one Mr. Goy. Owned mine for a year and 12,000 miles now and loving it. @9:12 yep, I can absolutely live with the noise. Not as sonorous as a flat 6; I look at it as more percussion than a wind instrument. Not bad, just different.

    Really, I'm just glad we get to see them in all these interesting colours. I'm so sick of seeing black, white and grey cars everywhere with boring designs, and I never liked Porsche, because the cayenne only seems to come in those colours and people only seem to buy SUVs these days. Colour does so much for a car emotively, and particularly that blue of the S model, is so compelling, I've almost come to a point where I like the look of the cars.

  • @nornibres
    @nornibres 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A common complaint among reviewers seems to be the cars perceived turbo lag. Lug the motor and then complain about how long it takes to get into boost. They rave about the manual, but then refuse to downshift. At least Alex showed both sides of the story. Drive it properly and theres no issue.

    • @Kamukix
      @Kamukix 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, it's almost as if people forgot how to drive. It was the same with the beautiful high-strung engines of yesterday...lug it around 2k and floor it and you won't get REALLY going until the tach finally hits 4-5k.
      I still strongly prefer non-turbo engines in all cars, but there's nothing wrong with this engine. It's only real fault is that it came out after an engine that sounded amazing.

    • @milchomarkov8158
      @milchomarkov8158 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Weird sounds at idle pretty normal at highway speeds and fantastic if you rev the ears off of it. It's a sports car so don't compare it to a gt sedan though.

    • @MatthewGaither
      @MatthewGaither 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unplug the fake noise generator/soundaktor and it's fairly sedate in terms of engine sound. Yes you can hear it but it's definitely more quiet than the 987 Boxster I owned back in the day. Tire noise is more noticeable at cruising speed and actually the Boxster is more quiet in this regard because you aren't getting sound reflections from the hatchback area like you do in the Cayman.

      > because to some the sound that the engine creates is more important than the overall speed.
      I feel sorry for guys who feel that way. More! I think guys who feel that way didn't really drive cars like this. Yes, the sound in 718 isn't as good as 6-cylinder but to say it's bad is ridicilous. It's not just as good. And then after experiencing the car in real life to make such a fuss about it? Internet trolls have this issue no one else. 718 was getting too nice, so they had to make sure it won't hurt 911 sales. That's truth to the story.
      > Modern sports cars are already leaps and bounds better than what most people can handle
      Absolutely, very true, agreed 100%
      > Read the comments clearly I’m not in a minority with this opinion
      I don't care about comments from kids reading specs and watching videos who never drove the damn thing. I thought rolexes are great till I bought one too. And I thought 911 is great car, till I test drove one. People who have strong opinions based not on real life experience but on even stronger marketing departments of big corporations... sad.

    I think the turbo 4 is the best thing that has ever happened to the Cayman. The added HP and more importantly torque make the car so much more fun. Sure it doesn't have the 6 cylinder sound, but good lord, any Cayman short of a GT4 was a dog, especially with how tall the gearing was. Plus as a rally fan, I like the flat 4 sound, just channel your inner Colin McRae before you fire it up.

    The manual is going to have lag, but that is part of the fun - you have to shift and ring it out a bit. The PDK would solve that instantly, but take away some driving enjoyment.

    • @Encourageable
      @Encourageable ปีที่แล้ว

      An automatic (PDK in this case) doesn’t eliminate lag. The lag is caused by the turbo - until the exhaust pressure is high enough to spin the turbo and pump compressed air into the intake, it’s going to be laggy. Getting a good launch with a manual takes practice. The PDK wins 0-60 because of how fast it shifts - which no human can match.

In the US, the window sticker of a 2022 718 T reads “20 mpg city / 26 mpg highway.” Unless the car’s computer is false, the Cayman T will do well over the sticker mpg. After watching a dozen reviews of this vehicle, not one reviewer has mentioned fuel efficiency. Granted, fuel efficiency is probably not the reason someone purchases an internal combustion Porsche…but still ;)

    This is why, in my opinion, gas-electric hybrid drivetrains can be better than a turbocharged motor. They add torque across the whole rev range without compromising low-end performance. Really electric motors when used in a performance application can compliment a great naturally aspirated engine. The only drawback I assume would be added weight.

    Hmm. I like the cayman t but.. I think it's really just a value package with the ability to get bucket seats in NA anyway, and fabric door pulls. I wish that it was more club sport lightweight than it is. I get it's not a full GT4 type motorsports car, that is not it's core but I would have loved to see it be a bit more hardcore imo.

    I believe that the problem for Porsche and the whole 4 cylinders drama is that Boxster/Cayman become such a good car and so much Porsche that the need for 911 (at least for the majority of people) become less and less. It had the right size, the right sound, the right weight, the right balance, etc. and of course the right price - you have a true Porsche and still can buy a very well equiped VW Tiguan for a daily and family car. I'm a massive Porsche fan (actually I do believe that 911 GT3 is probably the bast car ever), but that offer is (well .. WAS) a very tempting one.

    The early Caymans 9871/2 are still the best till 2009 also the 2.7 engine 245 HP is amazing the design is flawless the last analog Porsche buy a good one if you still can the built quality then was higher they where made in Finland at that time a bench mark in car production and the early ones where the last ones when Porsche wasn’t taking over by VW yet 😉

    People shouldn’t compare this with a 6 cylinder Porsche but think of it it as Porsche’s answer to the Alpine A110. But this car has a manual transmission and is more practical- suddenly it makes a lot of sense.

    If I'm being shamefully honest I want to buy one (because I can afford it), remove all badges but the Porsche logo, paint it a mean color, and then start carefully modifying. That engine is more than capable of 500 horsepower for a few more grand, and then you'd have quite the weapon.

    As a 911 T fan, and a Boxster/Cayman fan, this car is strangely a miss for me. There’s something about the enthusiast version not having a six cylinder that seems to completely miss the point. If you ask me, the real Boxster/Cayman T is a second-hand last gen naturally aspirated GTS.
