The Mallorca 981 gts that You did years ago is one of the best emotional building cinematic, breath taking review car video on TH-cam. I go back to it every now and then since day 1 I saw it.
Henry once again another masterpiece car review. How do you do it? Praise the 4.0 but yet still makes those that ordered a Spyder feel positive about having ordered one, - brilliant. Congratulations to those who are ordering a 4.0 - it is a fantastic car. As a former 981 GTS owner I’m happy they have brought the 6 back. Looking forward to seeing Henry driving the new Spyder or this GTS in his series “driving the best roads in the world.” Like he did in the last 981 Spyder and Boxster. I enjoy every car review Henry does. One of the best in the business. Cheers.
Henry Catchpole Anyone who can invoke the Dance of Death, the National Theatre and both Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir Anthony Hopkins to answer “the question” in a car review video and has us thoroughly engaged throughout, deserves our praise . I have owned many great sports car but the Gt4 Spyder, er, 718 will be my last. I have asked this question on other forums and yet to hear a reply so will ask it again. Can you name a car company other than Porsche who is currently producing a mid engine, NASP, manual, convertible - Ferrari,Lamborghini,, Aston Martin Alfa, Maserati, Audi, Lotus, Alpine , Ford , Chevy ., Acura or any other Japanese manufacturer - short answer is no. It may be pointless watching all the expensive car reviews cause I'm not able to buy a Porsche, but listening to a man really enjoying a car and driving with it is great. Fantastic review, great job guys. I love the new engine and Boxster GTS 4.0 seems to be the sweet spot. Tough question... how does it compare against the sonorous 981 GTS :-)
I do own the 981 GTS and I think there is just no comparison soundwise! The 981 is just much more raspy, loud and also delivers a wider range of sounds across the revs. Still the best choice for Porsche to switch to the 6 pots again :)

I’ve placed a deposit on a GTS4.0 but the dealer has offered me a very nicely spec Spyder in the colour I want and with all the options I would spec on the new car. The price would be slightly less for the Spyder than the ful spec on this new car.

Drive this exact model with a PDK at Porsche Performance Drives and your closing mark couldn’t have been said better!! I would take one of these home in a heartbeat!
Every car manufacturer will make a mistake is one of their beloved cars. But Porsche is one of the few, if not the only manufacturer that responds to its owners complaints and changes that model. These will certainly drive the price down even further on all of their 718 4 cylinder Boxster and Caymans(especially the GTS)if you desire a somewhat affordable Porsche. Great film per usual Henry and Carfection.
As usual, beautifully written and presented. Cheers for that! Regarding the GTS, now that I've seen the 718 Spyder, it's a challenge to ignore its aesthetic superiority over the understudy. Additionally, I can only imagine how difficult it would be if I'd also driven it first.
Roni92pl Selling a 4 cylinder Macan is “purely a business decision”, this is 95% of a 718 Spyder for ~$20k less, ~$35k less if you consider the mark up they’ll have. Porsche has shown that they listen to they’re customers, as it’s in their best interest to (I.e putting a manual in the 991.2 GT3.) Sure, this will make them money...but they could’ve easily kept producing the 4cyl GTS, or perhaps put a 3.2L in it.
@@gt1r they couldn't because sales dropped much. That's.my whole point, they didnt put 4l because its cool, they did it becaise sales tanked on 718 and it hurt their business.

can highly recommend getting the sports suspension option which im guessing is still a zero cost option. I had it on the 981 Boxster GTS that i owned for just over a year in california. managed to get around san francisco fine with all its hills and poor surfaces without hitting the nose (although the odd clip is likely now and then) but low ride height was not an issue. in the city some of the roads are pretty bad and it wasnt the most comfortable there, but fine, I didn’t get it as a city car; everywhere else it was awesome. took it to a porsche club track event and the instructor, who drove some laps in the car and was used to driving all of the porsche line up, was singing the praises of the suspension. regarding practicality, its actually pretty good. it was my only car...i could get all my kitesurfing gear in it even with my girlfriend in the car (putting the board behind the headrests lol)....anyway cant recommend the car enough and the only thing i regret is leaving it behind when i moved back to Europe :( ....
I assume there's quite a significant price difference as well. I do enjoy the double bubble rear deck lid of the Spyder, it's front, aero, GT3 heritage etc, but indeed there's something to say for this puppy. Love the little analogy at the end there. Now it's just waiting for William Shakespeare, or well: the GT4RS, that'd be my dream car right there.
Can’t believe other car channels have to try to live up to your reviews. It’s unfair. Having said that, I absolutely love watching your reviews of cars while you’re driving them. It makes me feel as if I’m a passenger. Or I’m following in a caravan with some hand radios or PA system for us. Like an audience is trailing you with your audio piped through the speakers.
All these new iterations just show how good the 981 GT4 was, and how good still is
Yep, and it sounds miles better.
That forest green is an absolutely gorgeous color.
When will they drop the 718 name? Seems redundant now that they’ve gone back to the 6 cylinder. 😂
If they'd known they were going to do this then they should've called them 914/4 and 914/6!
The 718 has been the boxster/cayman code for ages. The only decided to call it that (like the 911) this generation
Because they haven't gone back. They're still make the regular 4t boxster/Cayman
Takes me out of my seat here at home or the office when I watch.
The editor of the video has done an amazing job, but Henry overshadows it all.
Porsche never stops impressing. I'll take mine with green wheels & PDK.
We all know that moment, sipping your coffee on a terrace, looking at your car. And then Henry does it. At 5:00. LOL. His way.
