Touch and go whether petrol and diesel cars will be legal in the roads inside M25 - or anywhere in the UK- in ten years time, so more likely: - buy Cayman S for £40k - enjoy owning it for next ten years and allow for £2k a year maintenance and servicing - pay another £30k to convert it to full electric in 2032 if combustion engine are banned - worth ~£90k in 2032. Sell and make profit of £0 but have had ten years of fun. Good video JB.
Yeah there's a reason they're still holding their value - if you can stretch it, I reckon a 981 Spyder is the best of the bunch and will probably be a future classic. maybe 75k?
Having owned a Cayman S for a number of years, I don’t think I could ever let it go. Originally planned to sell after a few years of ownership and get a 911, but can’t help but feel like this is going to be a future classic. I do think the Porsche sports exhaust is definitely worth getting though and personally I like a bit of colour in a sports car. Though have seen a blacked out GT4 that looked the absolute nuts. You should get one JB!
I just got a 2014 S, thinking I would keep for a year or two, as I want to have a Ferrari (430?) in my lifetime and I'm 63 now. Problem is, I don't know if I'll be able to justify selling a 2014 Cayman S. It's just too good and I love it more each day. What a wonderful car - and its still mid-engine, very light, very classy, great power to weight ratio, and an absolute joy to drive. And did I mention its got Porsche's 3.4L flat 6 engine behind the seats?
Just bought mine 54k with 40k miles, it’s a bit more miles than I like but the car record show it was taking care of very well. Also came the a 2 year warranty
The owner of this car clearly has exquisite taste 😄 Was great to see a pro at work, thanks for a great day out! The "privacy glass" on the rear window is booked to get fixed in a month so should have new tint without the bubbles- decided to do that rather than just removing since it looks good and it's only £140 so basically a tank of fuel now! Also means I'm basically signed up to not sell the car this year since I'm on holiday after that and then mid-September is probably too late to get a good price on it. Putting up with this for a few more months is a sacrifice I'm willing to make 😁
Thanks again for bringing down the car such a long way! Re the privacy glass etc, oh no what a shame, you’ll just HAVE to keep the car that bit longer 👀
You got this car for an amazing deal. I just bought mine a month ago, in the US. Even after negotiating, I couldn’t get close to what you paid. Still, I don’t regret it one bit. I love my 981 S!!
@@marcosvaldes8910 Interesting - US car prices are usually lower, but the Cayman is one of the few that's actually cheaper here new, so that's probably a big factor - a C8 Corvette costs the same as a base 911 here, rather than a Cayman. Regardless of the price though, I'd honestly still pick a 981CS over any other sports car! Actually sold mine in September this year, after 3 years / 20k miles due to the one big downside they have: tyre noise, especially on UK roads. Since I mostly do long journeys now, I wanted to hear the stereo 😄
Radlett - I recognise some of those roads. Didn’t realise you’re not that far away from me. The Cayman is my favourite Porsche. Had a Boxster and a 911 before switching to a base 981, which I then swapped for a 981 GT4. Phenomenal cars. If I ever decide to swap the GT4 (extremely unlikely), I wouldn’t mind a Spyder.
Just picked up a 2015 Cayman S with 20k miles, $59,900. US dollars. This price was aprx 2K-5K under most of the S's in the USA with low miles and great condition.
beautiful and great car! looking to get one sometime after uni… i’d slap a tune and an exhaust on that b, and chefs kiss, PDK go hard too, JB you should include tunnel runs with the window down 😁😁😅 great vid as always.
@@CarsWithJB a bit sad about the fiance news, lol, but congrats nonetheless. Great taste in cars . One of my faves thanks for posting. What year is this? I missed that bit as I'm still watching
I’ve had for a while now and love it. The only reason why I might sell it sometime is that the ride is so hard on our bumpy UK roads that I might tire of it. The same goes for road noise such that the wife refuses to get in it. Is that good or bad though?
My nextgoal cars are s2000,miata to track, brz, cayman. All drivers cars. When I retire, I'll have a driver to take me and the hubby around in the rolls lol. ( no hubby yet...)( no rolls)lol.
You said it didn't have PSE but I thought the twin exhaust pipes was only for 981s with PSE fitted otherwise it was a single wide pipe? Can someone enlighten me please?
Cayman prices are very sensitive to spec and this doesn't have much. If you're looking for a good car rather than a good investment though, the 19" wheels and standard exhaust/suspension are the way to go. Sport chrono is irrelevant on the road too. Literally the only option I'd change about this car is the upgraded Bluetooth since I have to plug my phone in which means I can't also charge it. Extended leather, sat nav and the upgraded headlights are nice to have, as is cruise which mine has but it is optional. Ignore the Bose stereo, that and standard are both 6/10 quality but tyre noise means even a Mark Levinson would be pointless. This specific car will be for sale next spring if you've not found one! Was considering selling sooner but JB talked me into keeping it a little longer 😀 also because I can't find a car at any price that Iike enough to swap this for it...
@@CarsWithJB I have an e92 335i right now that am looking to go hybrid turbos so am looking at those two Caymans for more of a connection to the road (suspension mods) then say flat out raw power. From what’s I’ve heard the 987 is more a go kart feel but I love the look of the 981.
@@NTG2396 If you get a 981 you'll never feel like you're missing what the 987 offers. The 987 has got better steering but to me does feel very dated now. I may be biased though...it's my 981 in the video 😄 For me the hardest choice is between a 981S with PDK or a manual base 981.
@@ApothecaryTerry you got a really nice example man and yeah I agree about the transmission choice. However, due to having a manual for nearly three years now I think I’ll go for the PDK.
£30k now , £80k in 10 years time , giving Supra vibes , most of us missed the boat on those 😭😭😭🔥
Maybe time to invest then!

Even the gen before is very cool and a pretty good bargain, love a mid engined 6 cylinder even tho I’m not the biggest Porsche fan
Prices must be a LOT lower in the UK. Even a high mileage 981 Cayman S in the US will set you back at least $50,000-even a low spec model.
Exactly what I was thinking, $50k is extremely hard to find, and $40k for an S doesn't exist in US.

I was thinking that. The owner must have bought pre COVID.
