@Hasan M Thanks for the feedback. Did you get a chance to watch last week’s acceleration video of the Porsche Cayman S? That’s more the original style. With this system, we wanted to delve deeper into reviews and be more concise. That said, I think a combination of multiple formats will keep things fresh (hopefully).
Dude, I really like your car review videos. It isn't an annoying in your face screaming excited millennial review. It's proper, calm, mature and cinematic experience that i can sit down, listen to, and enjoy. Useful information, Beauty shots, and your own opinion. 10/10 on these videos keep it up.
I think the new review system is pretty genius. It makes the channel more versatile. Gives it more depth I think. Couple that with the quality of the work, it's gonna go big in no time.
Everyone at work thinks my 981S is a better looking car than my colleague's 911. PSE(Porsche Sports Exhaust) def takes the 981 to another level. It's one of the modification I've done with my 981S. Great review!
I think you undersell the Porsche Aftermarket -- especially if all that you consider is exhaust and intake tuming. Many 911 or later model Cayman parts will bolt right on to this car. If you want to swap a GT3 front suspension and a GT4 rear suspension on to the car -- you can buy the parts from countless suppliers, or even Porsche itself. The same for even Ti-connecting rods, and everything in between. You can get decades of race prep and hot-rodding guidance at a number of excellent forums - with very little attitude (not to mention -once again - support from Porsche itself). The aftermarket (and Porsche itself through the Heritage Product line) also supports all Porsches going back 70 years. The Porsche Club in the US and other countries is second to none compared to other car clubs for activities and support. From autocrosses to Carrera Cup you'll have a place to race. You should also check out the fan support and corral at sports car races! Have you been to a Rennsport Reunion?!
Hey Bro, nice car, I'm in Perth, currently have a tuned Audi A7 but considering getting the Cayman 981, considering getting the "S" or do you recommend get the standard and put and get the S exhaust system on it like you, which may work out cheaper? I actually wanted a 2015 RS7 because i wanted a v8 roar but it seems like these Caymans sound good? Hard to tell on just hearing from the vids, haven't driven one yet only just decided today that this might be my next car
@@bsb6350 Yeah I'd definitely go with an S. The standard car only has 275hp. Sounds great but I just feel like it's super under-powered. The S has just the right amount at 325, and it's super light, at 2900lbs so it still corners in its sleep. I haven't found a base cayman with the sports exhaust but here's a vid from my channel where you can hear mine. th-cam.com/users/shortsi3qh2al9LsY Definitely worth getting the S. I still have it and it runs great. Not terrible maintenance costs either. I've had it for 6 years now.
@@RuTube981 @RuTube981 thanks for your response , exhaust sounds great, sounds like you get some nice crackles and burps and well which i know some people don't like but i love. I wil see if i can find one to test drive in the near future as a starting point. Looking for something around 2014 /2015 with about 60,000 km as it then becomes a little more affordable and less guilt on a big spend. Other sports cars that i feel are in the similar price range with great power is the Jaguar F Type R (V8) and the Lexus LC 500 also a V8 , both have nice designs and lots of luxury inside BUT something about that timeless look of a Porsche just makes me feel this is something i need to buy and hopefully just keep forever, also feel this car might even go up in value in the future and also become a "cult" classic. The Lexus has a vibe of a "retired Dentists car" and im just not sure the Jag is a wise choice. Ive recently turned 40 and still young at heart and before everything turns electrical, i really want to enjoy some sporty engineering but want to enjoy decent sound , hence my question on the exhaust. Appreciate your time.
@bsb6350 I'll tell you I can sell my car for more than I bought it and I bought it certified pre-owned 6 years ago. Their value will only go up as the cayman after mine got a disgusting 4 cylinders and the new cayman after that will be all electric. The 981 s flat 6 is the best sounding flat 6 porsche ever made, as even the new 911s don't sound as good what with all the emissions and stuff.
I still have my 2014 Porsche Cayman Basic 275 h.p., that I purchased new in 2014. It has been an awesome car with the PDK and other amenities. I still get compliments from complete strangers out on the road. I never track a car so why justify paying $10k for more horsepower.
It was nice to turn on the computer today and see a new 981 review. I have a 2015 981 Cayman S with a lot of options. I love it but I still think it was overpriced at $87k. I added Soul Performance headers with 200 cell cats paired with the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) and it makes one helluva difference in the exhaust note. It also adds a bit more power. In Sport +, it literally screams. But, I think the new C8 is going to wind up being a much better value. I also think that is why Porsche did an about-face and will now have the 4.0 in the GTS and not just the GT4.
I rented a 981 Cayman GTS with the manual transmission through Turo two years ago and absolutely loved it. Very engaging and that flat six made such a wonderful sound. Can't go wrong with a Cayman! Also, I like your grading system.
All I can say is another excellent, unbiased and accurate review. I just happen to have a 2014 981S. I must say, your assessment is right on. Although Porsche has the car at 325 HP. So far, I have had no issues with the car other than regular maintenance and it is always "properly" driven. Job well done. P.S. - I like those shirts. I'm going to order one, haha.
Way too much criticism of the exhaust. Some of us like our sports cars refined, mature and not sounding like a 21 year old trust fund knucklehead trying to wake his parent's neighbors at 2 a.m.

Last Sept. I rented a 2013 Boxster S from Turo in SFO. It had 110K miles and you would never know it by how solid and composed. Everything worked and was in very good shape after some likely hard miles as a rental. You can pick one up for a good deal and call your local Porsche dealer to add extended warranty if you are outside the factory or CPO warranty.
This was great review. Only hit is my 2010 BMW 335i coupe had cup holders like that. Only they didn’t have the pop down door. The cup holders just popped out.
I was confused by your statement that it's difficult to do after market upgrades. Mine has wider wheels, under drive pulleys, a bigger oil cooler, factory short shift, a turbo charger with intercooler and performance brakes. So unless you're referring to fuzzy dice, your just plain wrong on that score. Mine is a 460 hp track machine that eats GT3s for breakfast.
I guess I should’ve been more clear. Wheels/Brakes are pretty standard things so don’t really count. You can get custom wheels for pretty much anything. What I’m referring to is OEM+ or FBO. I think 7 is a fair score considering the mod price to performance ratio isn’t exactly stellar. I’m sure your car is a beast, but how much did you spend to get there? For reference, the BMW’s B58/S55/N55/N54 platforms would get a 10 in this category because of how easy it is to gain performance with practically one or two mods.
Maybe I misunderstood the category. You were referring to how simple and inexpensive mods are not necessarily their availability. Got it. Good job on the revue though.
Love the in depth review and the grading system as well. The fact that it comes a week after a fast list video of the same car is also great. We get the acceleration video that’s quick and to the point, followed by a longer video to give us more insight. Great job again!!
Francois Boisvert Thanks Francois! I think this is essentially how I want to play it, a short and sweet but entertaining acceleration video and then a full in depth review where I can concentrate on everything about the car.
Not tooting my horn here, but, I bought a low miles 2016 Cayman GTS and drove it for about 2 years. The exhaust sound: absolutely beautiful & wondrous! The 14-way seats (or were they 18-way?) made for so much comfort, I felt refreshed getting out of the car after a 5-hour drive! I wish I had one with its adjustability in my living room. The memory package is a great deal too. Appreciate your review. Beep-beep!
@@tommy516 glad to hear you like the exhaust. Preferences can differ. For me it will never hold a candle to the flat 6s. And yes for a 4 banger it sounds nice, but given the choice? A 6 cylinder singing away all day for me

@@vincentput I have driven the 998 and it was so weak, I get that people love the flat 6 but the new base model is faster and more usable than the old S, the same goes for the GTS of course.
Hello! Just watched and enjoyed the review, great job! I too owned a 2014 Cayman S which was my first Porsche. I purchased mine used with only 3500 miles and aftermarket exhaust. Prior to this car I also have been a fan of V8 powered beast but I always found myself wanting more than straight line performance. Due to an unfortunate collision with a full grown buck at 65 mph, the Cayman S was totaled. Now I have a 2016 GTS and in my opinion is the most amazing car I’ve ever driven! The sport exhaust is awesome and when the PVT is active with PASAM I find it awe inspiring to think, “They make cars that handle better than this?” I’d love to see your review of the GTS and see if you come to the same conclusions as I have!
Good review! But I think it's time that you reviewed the 992 911 carrera s, as well as the upcoming 992 turbo (non s). In my opinion those two cars will be the best bang for buck, and the best in their categories. I switched from buying a m850i to the 992 carrera s (expecting delivery this late December).
Porsche offer warrantees UpTo 15yrs from new. Yes, you do have to pay for it, but the fact that Porsche will offer it, shows how much faith they have in their design and engineering.
Glad to see you around on the comments again! Man the GT4 would be a beast. When this whole this blows over and I can travel again, we’ll do it for sure. I’ll take yellow over white or black :)
It is high reving compared to normal cars that usually top up at 5000rpm even if they can rev up to 6000 or 6500 there is no more power to be gained up there because of the lack of torque. The Cayman engine wakes just up where most cars start to loose power at the top and rev up to 7500rpm with just slightly more and more power right up to the rpm limiter.
2:10....Porsche 9 ONE 8 Cayman S.....ummmm....close. :-) 9 EIGHT 1....yes. Everybody confuses these with the 918 Spyders.... I own two of these; love 'em... one Manual and one PDK. Be very careful with those $800 cup holders!! Track Day? Take this bad boy to the track....and you'll really get to experience WHAT it is all about. It is different when you can actually DRIVE it like intended. Overall - VERY NICELY filmed! Great job!
Great video, looking forward to the rest of the season. Good balance of facts, opinion and humour, all balanced with enthusiasm and subject matter knowledge. Only thing that would be good is some of the high speed driving action and dynamic evaluation. 👌🏻
I picked up a 981 CS last summer with everything but a PSE, $84K original sticker with X73..... first thing I did was put a proper exhaust on it. wish I held out for a manual, but it had everything I wanted and more and the right color. PDK is amazing, but I just miss the third pedal I'd put this car up against anything in handling dept. its unreal how well it plants itself to the road. Nothing else like it that Ive ever driven. I did a before and after video of the exhaust install...check it out!
Fair grade. It is an average sports car that has a few shining points. Like the Flat-6 when you cold start it - then it disappoints with its low power and doesn't like to rev as much as you think past 6.7k rpm. And to think Porsche deliberately de-tuned it is unforgivable.
My 2014 Cayman S had an ECU tweak to 360hp, 420Nm, 0-100km/h 3.89sec, switchable exhaust bypass .. for under AU$4k these mods totally transform this car. Won't ever part with it!!
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, we only had that one take and sometimes when you drive and talk with a camera and light in your face, you end up saying weird stuff.
I'm curious how you would rank the Cayman vs the i8, since you've driven both. I own the i8 and am considering a Cayman GT4, but I haven't driven one yet. Maybe the 911 would be a better choice.
Pat's Garage Online To be frank, it’s hard for me put them in the same category. The i8 has its merits but the Cayman (especially the GT4) will feel like a completely more purposed animal. I haven’t driven a 911 but I’d imagine it’d be a better blend of comfort and sport. You just don’t get the stunt factor of the i8.
@@DanWangFilms Yep, totally agree with the lack of stunt factor. It has really taken it's toll on me after a year of ownership. Prior to the i8, I owned Corvettes so I miss the raw feeling and sounds, but have been bitten by the exotic (and electric) bug. Nothing like a one-off car to really mess with your ownership priorities. Lol
I picked the Supra over this because of tons more torque & speed for way less money. Wish you included more acceleration runs in video. Let me know if you want to review my GR Supra!
Thanks! Did you check out the acceleration video on this car that we did? We separate the performance test from the in-depth reviews now. And yes, I’d love to do a full review on your GR Supra. I’ve driven one with a very conservative tune and downpipe, but I want to see what they can do stock. Shoot me a message on IG, FB or email if you can!
Maybe I missed it but did you talk about current value? Talking about the price when it came out I don't think is relevant to current value as nobody is buying this model new.
So as far as my knowledge goes, at the time of this review, current used value is around 45-55K depending on variables. But I tried to keep it relative to its segment for its time period when it came out new. If I factored in used prices, I could say it cost almost as much as an early year used C7 Z06 and I think that would put it at an unfair disadvantage. Therefore, my thought process is that original MSRP compared against the offerings at the time is the most impartial method. It’s hard doing older models, I try to stick to newer cars for this reason, but I’m still a small channel, so I won’t say no when a car is offered to me for review.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy I agree that I would talk about a new car to what's available used, it's a bit apples to oranges for a review. However when talking about an older used car the MSRP/new sale price doesn't relate to a lot. Knowing it's price competitors back then isn't something that comes up when looking at this car unless it's similarly competitive now on the used scene. I think it's fair to compare it to a C7 Z06 because someone with about $50K would definitely cross shop these two cars.
The 7/10 score encompasses the interior, cabin design and storage. The interior, though beautiful, is lacking in tech for its segment. If I were to grade it solely on storage space, it would be a 9/10. The only car that has better storage capability in its class is the C7 Corvette. Though it doesn’t have a frunk, there’s a cool hidden compartment behind the navigation screen and the volume in the hatch is just unparalleled if you need to be utilitarian with it.
Dan likes V8 straight line, American muscle cars. Cayman is way too refined a tool, the subtleties of which elude him. A little like a scalpel instead of a sledge hammer.
Pretty good review except for sounding way overly polished/edited rather than having a more real quality like someone comfortable with as is delivery warts and all. I absolutely love this car other than the agony of trying to pick between stick and pdk I love a clutch except for the times I hate having to use one which includes stop and go rush hour and the rare occasion when there is foot/ankle/leg injury....also when driving with my wife who has a really bad neck after being rear ended HARD years ago by a drunkdriver ....now she has a huge fixture wired to her skull and vertibrae meaning any jerking at all can result in pain...I get my clutches trying to produce totally smooth shifts
The problem that I have is that you didn’t push it hard how it is meant to be. So your comment towards the end about it being disconnected from the driver as a cayman GTS owner is absolutely wrong. Push it hard and track it and you will see a COMPLETELY different car. I’m the normal everyday drive it’s dossal and it feels a bit blah....but start driving it like you stole it and you will see the true cayman personality and performance. Just my opinion of course. Other than that, great video and review! 👍🏻
Enigma Tombo Things are good bro. It’s getting pretty serious over here with the 🦠 so we’re just avoiding society in general. Means I got more time to make videos though.
Correction, the Porsche model number for the latest gen is 718, not 982. Also, I would encourage you to drive the latest 718. I have owned all 3 latest generations & the latest gen it is better in every way. With the optional sports exhaust, the new model sounds almost as good as the previous gen, but the improvements in torque & power are worth it. Also, the latest base model is faster than the previous S model. In addition, value is excellent, especially if you pick up a Cayman that is 1-2yrs old. As a example, I found the same model in your video with all the same options, including Ceramic brakes (PCCB) for $59K (originally $92k MSRP). Excellent review, your presentation & demeanor is spot on.

@@DanWangFilms it's a winning formula as far as I'm concerned.
9:38 So that's where they hid them!
Such amazing quality throughout this video!
Beep-beep!
Good to have ya back. Solid video.
Like the new rating system and glad you are back. Need to see you test a 812SF for the fast list.
Bravo from a new 987.2 owner ... Great review!
You need to drive a 718 GTS, the turbo 4 cylinder. It has power for hours at any RPM.
However for a car easily reaching the 100 000 EUR mark, a crappy sounding 4-cyl is a let down imho...
Vince The Prince the GTS is not “crappy” sounding
@@tommy516 glad to hear you like the exhaust. Preferences can differ. For me it will never hold a candle to the flat 6s. And yes for a 4 banger it sounds nice, but given the choice? A 6 cylinder singing away all day for me

@@vincentput I have driven the 998 and it was so weak, I get that people love the flat 6 but the new base model is faster and more usable than the old S, the same goes for the GTS of course.
Oh how I've missed you. Lambo guys reference had me LOL'ing
LMAO "manhood questioning turbocharged 4 banger"
Yes, you find that amusing because you yourself are a huge joke...birds of a feather...
I love your content. If you keep it up, i'm sure you'll hit 1 million subs in no time
Great review! Keep it up!
Very very nice review. :) would love to give you the chance to test our 981gt4. I just love this car. 😍 and its yellow btw
Glad to see you around on the comments again! Man the GT4 would be a beast. When this whole this blows over and I can travel again, we’ll do it for sure. I’ll take yellow over white or black :)
Shure, go for it 😻 hows the situation in America about co-vid 19?
Taycan vs. Model S P100DL. Go.
Taycan crushes on track and 60-130mph. The Tesla is only close in 1/4 mile.
I’m still waiting for the day you do a 17 GT-R
It is coming do not worry!
Sean Patel oh yes and it’s coming fast 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Dope review. Love your scoring system.
Last time I came this early we were still worrying about SARS
Wow I can’t believe the quality of your content......... well done sir!
Very well done Sir.
Hey! I missed you buddy! Great video 💪
I picked up a 981 CS last summer with everything but a PSE, $84K original sticker with X73..... first thing I did was put a proper exhaust on it.
wish I held out for a manual, but it had everything I wanted and more and the right color. PDK is amazing, but I just miss the third pedal
I'd put this car up against anything in handling dept. its unreal how well it plants itself to the road. Nothing else like it that Ive ever driven.
I did a before and after video of the exhaust install...check it out!
Catbacks on the caymans sound great
great to hear the negatives about a car
Graduated with a computer science degree and first purchase is gonna be this porsche and kbbQ
9 horsepower per pound 🤔
The other way
Great review
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, we only had that one take and sometimes when you drive and talk with a camera and light in your face, you end up saying weird stuff.
Beautiful videos! Do you want to come review my 2023 Audi R8?
Lol
Great job.
Category #1: Kickass yellow color? Check!
Nice review, thanks.
Some say that one gets the best of both worlds with the Boxster. What is the advantage, if any, with the Cayman?
I was "like" number 993. Porsche fitting... :)
Nice video - I'm in the market for one of these and this video is very informative.
9:50 "Only in a Porsche" e90 BMW cupholders? :)
The pictures are fantastic. The bright yellow color of the car blends very well with the gorgeous scenery. Everything is attractive and lovely.
Beautiful car
Exhaust is just plain could be better
Hi, what cameras do you use?
I picked the Supra over this because of tons more torque & speed for way less money. Wish you included more acceleration runs in video. Let me know if you want to review my GR Supra!
Thanks! Did you check out the acceleration video on this car that we did? We separate the performance test from the in-depth reviews now. And yes, I’d love to do a full review on your GR Supra. I’ve driven one with a very conservative tune and downpipe, but I want to see what they can do stock. Shoot me a message on IG, FB or email if you can!
Track Day Ah ok missed that. Sounds good will be in touch!
i'm impressed with the mental math
Love your coat. Who makes it?
They're really capable machines but too bad the majority of owners just don't make good use out of them. Out in LA, Porsche are like Honda civics.
You need to drive a gt3 991
U can not drive in Sport Plus unless you're actually racing unless u use manual mode
Love the color!
Something other than C*****V****; Thank you!!!
Anthony Bonvino it’s the C word🤔🤭
how about a test review on a 992 CS?
the seatbelt matches the rest of the car. cute!
Padel has more confidence? Huh?
I have a feeling if you drive the manual your smiles per gallon may go up a little.
Probably, in this day in age, almost every manual will be more fun. The smiles per gallon is capped at 5 bonus points either way though.
If it was 9hp/lb, it would have 27,000HP. It actually has 0.1HP per pound.
Storage is 7/10? Name one other car in this segment has better storage than the Cayman please
I think you're confusing Dan with the other presenter Sean. Dan has all the lightweight track cars while Sean has all the big straight-line V8 SUVs.
Cup holder position, not good......right above the center stack electronics.
Hey bro what up!!!!
Enigma Tombo Hey man! Glad to be back at it. Feels like forever since I’ve been on camera.
@@DanWangFilms What's up Dan? How's the wife and child?
Enigma Tombo Things are good bro. It’s getting pretty serious over here with the 🦠 so we’re just avoiding society in general. Means I got more time to make videos though.

Not a bad review...you're right about the PSE it does make a massive difference to the sound. Stunning car!
Very detail review. It’s a nice car but not the color.
718 has a factory designation of 982 he is correct .
9 pound per HP
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, we only had that one take and sometimes when you drive and talk with a camera and light in your face, you end up saying weird stuff.
I choose to DD a 981S MT with all the trimmings. This car would get a 10/10 for engagement if it was a manual with PSE. Trust me. :)
