    UPDATE: I've been playing my PS4 Pro for a few days since upgrading, and there are noticeable differences everywhere. From in-game menu loading/speed and world loading, to hitching and frame drops, and finally to the home screen responsiveness, this drive completely eliminates all of it. Very worth the $200. Plus, an extra 1TB of storage helps as well. I reccomend this upgrade!👍🤘😎

    • @gonsoku5649
      @gonsoku5649 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel at this time (PS5 release upcoming) It does not make sense to buy a huge 2TB one for the sole purpose of putting it in to a PS4. Here is what I did:
      I had a 250GB 850 EVO SSD laying around. Thats what i put into my PS4 Pro and were I installed the Playstation Firmware + a few games.
      The boost in perfomance IS indeed significant and really impressed me.
      Playstation menu e.g. is much smoother.
      The 1TB Playstation HDD i then used as an external drive.

I want to just slip it in and use a ubs to finish it up, but having hard time using usb. • @Jiggs224u
      @Jiggs224u 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you format the USB (Make sure it has nothing important on it, because it will be erased) make sure to format it with FAT32. Also You need to create two folders in all caps. Then you need to place the update file that you download into the correct folder. It's not too bad to do. If you want to backup and restore your saved games and data then you need an additional external USB drive with enough storage. You can do the backup under settings, then restore when you have the new hard drive installed with the new operating system.

I build computers for 20 years from when I was a child, but you don't mention a thing. You could mention more detailed stuff. Do you need to format the SSD you gonna place inside the PS4Pro, activate the SSD first, that google don't work to download the latest PS4Pro drivers, you need to do this with Microsoft EDGE. Do not install them on a partly used or a clear formatted FAT32 USB but only on a clear formatted exFAT USB. Your lack to give detailed information by doing this bring hundreds of PS4 users that wanna give it a try by themself in problems.

It will also depend on the game as some games have their loadtimes embedded onto the loading screen as previous generation consoles have shown when replaced with SSDs. Not only does SSD reduces load times but it also reduces some noise and heat. Even some SSHD shows some benefits over a regular HDD as once loaded a few times on cache it will load a little bit faster. Now PS5 may be a different story as it will use NVME SSD as opposed to SATA SSD and then once developers stop hard coding loadtimes onto loading screens then it can load as fast as PC games #pcmasterrace but if you're not seeing the benefit of an SSD over an HDD on your PS4 then thats unfortunate.
      So to answer the previous question, is there much point when the PS5 is around the corner? Yes for better load times and enjoying your games faster.
      If its going to cost you an arm and a leg then no, its best to save up for the PS5 when it comes end of the year? also expect it to be priced slightly higher than last gens MSRP as the specs are slightly beefier... well.. by beefier the performance should be like last years AMD Zen 2 and NVME pushed by PCIE4, should be interesting though.

    Cool video! I got a PS4 slim in December 2019 (yes, very late, I know) and a week later I got a 2TB Samsung SSD (same as yours, but 2TB) and installed it. Took me about half an hour total from removing the original 1TB HDD and installing the ssd. My boot times are significantly quicker and my GTA V loading times are about halved. Overall having the 2TB was the best thing I could do since the PS4 only has two USB ports and I always keep a keyboard plugged in, and a charger for my controllers.
    Admittedly I am worrying about the heat exposure for the SSD but after 5 months it runs just as solid as day one even though I play every day.

    Does it work for the regular ps4

  • @knightrcer

    One thing to keep in mind. If you're playing with friends with the default drive, you won't be able to load into any map until everyone does so it makes the upgrade worthless unless you're talking about solo gaming. This happens when people have ps5 games that are still on ps4 and there's people on both platforms in the same team.

      i say this all the time ahaha me and my friends will be waiting for a match of halo infinite to load in (i have a series x and they have good gaming pc's) and we will type into chat after two minuets of loading saying "whos on the og xbox one"

    I've had my ssd in my PS4 for a few days now. I play Neverwinter and when I had my hdd in, I would load into a dungeon about 6-7 seconds slower than players with a PS5. Now I'm loading in at the same. time.

    Hey mate, thanks for the video! Just got myself an EVO as well and it all went without problems. Would have done it far earlier if i knew it`s that easy. :) Now i just need to wait until Iceborne is installed again to test those dope new loading times.

    Doing this upgrade today... got the new Xbox and the SSD speeds make the PS4 Pro seem pedestrian.
    No chance of finding a P55 in stock anytime soon, so getting a 2TB SSD delivered this very afternoon!

      And the ps4 is still a beast of a console, until more ps5 games come out then it’ll be 100% worth it imo

    I want to put in an ssd into my ps4 pro but I've read a lot of poor reviews about the Samsung Evo? Apparently it works great but it doesn't last. Who has put it or another 1tb ssd in and how has it held up? Thanks.

    Hi! Hope you see this- Sony/PS4 recommends backing up data to a storage device with at least 2 times the amount your original hard drive has? What did you use to back up? I know you eventually put it on your ssd, but what do you recommend? Or what do others in comments recommend?

    Great difference in speed when textures need loading. FF7 NEEDS a SSD same as Witcher below. Not many people can run PS4 Pro in 4K even tho TV supports it. I have to power my TV OFF - NOT standby and reboot TV, Pause for display to change and then boot PS4. TV is JVC 58" Model - JVC LT-58CA810 LED. Very nice and only £180 from local dealer. Shop around. XBOneX runs in 4K without the trickery - still 1Tb HDD at the moment but I have a spare 2Tb SSD ready for it. I just need the time to fit it...

    Is it really worth spending £130 on an SSD when in 6 months time the PS5 is coming out? 😐Can't decide.

    • @TELEVISIBLE

      Improvement is not worth it , especially ps5 s coming

    • @NoToeLong
      @NoToeLong 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you play a lot of PS4 games then it may be worth it, but not if you only play it casually. Although the Coronavirus is causing supply issues that'll make it difficult to get a PS5 when it comes out, so you might be stuck with the PS4 long enough to make the SSD worth it.

    • @Beastykato
      @Beastykato 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, not worth it. Was worth it back in 2012.

    For everyone else who has upgraded theirs- what size device did you do the backup to? Sony recommends 2x the storage of the hdd you’re replacing?

    • @rhydlew
      @rhydlew 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The reason for that is the lack of TRIM support. By overprovisioning with a larger drive you go longer before hitting write slow downs from write amplification and trimming. Many claim "modern SSDs have garbage collection" yes they do, but if they aren't filesystem aware they won't know what is garbage. It's a bit like having the ability to defragment, but never using it

    5:01 For those, who tried to read...
    Boost Mode: Experience improved gameplay, including higher frame rates, for some games that were released before the introduction of PS4 Pro (CUH-2000 series). Turn this off if you experience unexpected behavior during gameplay.

    So will this help with holding 60 FPS in games like Apex Legends? This is a problem I've since forever, my PS4 Slim drops to 35 FPS mid-fights and if I could hold a solid 60, would make life so much better

    If my hard drive is failing should i replace it? is it safe to do so?

    • @Hexatomb
      @Hexatomb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's safe and worth doing since it can cost less than $60 these days to get a new HD and reload the software. You can use an external HD to backup or if you pay for the plus you can just make sure all your saves are uploaded.
