Hargreaves was mega when fit, he always gave a solid performance. A rare combination of technical ability, physicality and workrate.
The Bizness I remember I really didn't rate him at all, thought he was rubbish. To prove the point, I watched a game (england I think) and just made a mental note of everything he did, solely focused on him during the game. At the end, I was like "we should totally sign him, he's top!"

Phenomenal penalty taker, for Utd and England. While everyone else bottled it and missed he had that german composure from the spot.
He was the one true midfielder that was actually committed to playing the anchor role for englamd whilst actually having the legs to keep up with the world's best attacking midfielders. Yes he was frustratingly injury prone but for the time he played he deserves so much more respect than he gets.

Never forget how much I used to underrate Hargreaves until I saw him play for England in the 2006 World Cup and my mind changed. He was superb when he was fit but so incredibly injury prone.
CDMs don't come much better than Hargreaves. Injuries robbed the England Team of him and Ledley King.
And Jonathan Woodgate. And probably stopped Michael Owen from reaching his full potential too.

His playing style meant injuries were a certainty, he was so good because he sacrificed his body

Yes, obviously, common sense mate. During my match in 2016 I'd hairline fractured my first two knuckles on my left hand, my corner wanted to pull me out but I carried on. Ended up fracturing the index knuckle and shattering the middle kunckle, wasn't fun.

Hargreaves was awesome. Underrated and forgotten. For England he was the heartbeat and for Utd he was the answer to replacing Keane. Such a shame his career was curtailed.

He was a great player. Fergie was fuming he got injured and should have handled it better. Its almost like he was made to feel guilty because he got injured. He would have been a Utd legend and so he should remind everyone about the league and champs league double cos he played a major part.

Just wanna of those things, Hargreaves was brilliant for England, Bayern and utd for one season .. Utd side of 2007/2008 was there last great side... A match for any of the modern teams.
As a medical professional the term "injection into a tendon" he mentions sounds bad. Never a good idea to inject a tendon, have to be very careful injecting in the region of a tendon, let alone injecting directly into one.

I suspect he was receiving injects into his knee and other parts to deal with the pain he probably got from playing. That may have contributed to his problems. He may have played on through the pain but in doing so was creating a degenerative effect.
What about surgery for patella tendinitis? What is the success rate of recovery from surgery?
Maybe in a paralel universe, he stayed at Bayern and won the Champions League with Lahm and Schweinsteiger. United's medicals weren't aware how fragile his injury really was.
Probably what happened was that he was taking injections for pain and probably played straight through it.

Now Owen hargreaves was somewhat a mystery to many England fans in 2006,until u started seeing his all energy performances in the world cup competition..He simply looked England's best player(apart from Wayne Rooney,who was never quite fit at most of the big Tournament's)so when Man U picked him up,he looked like quality (a really talented all round Midfield player)and then he got injured and for some reason Fergie thought it was all in his mind.. Somehow I don't think so!!

Hargreaves was a good player and intelligent, but surely one of the most overrated players in the history of football; nobody should end up with as many as 42 caps in a period when he played only around 150 club games - that ratio is nonsense. I surmise that he was lately in favour because he was considered to be exotic and would embrace continental qualities. He claims to have been a 'guinea pig' for 'revolutionary treatment' at Man UTD, and it is possible that he was mistreated but it makes no sense for a club to have spent so much money on such an asset to have allowed or instructed that to happen.
