@carrieflauta Strange you say that, the first time I tracked down this piece it was a live recording by Rampal and i felt for my taste it was a tad speedy, like he was rushing through it ! although yes he is a virtuoso!
although he had a perfect technique i can't listen to him, for my taste he is always playing too fast, being a virtuoso, i have the sense that he couldn't let the music goes... i don't know how to explain...

Lovely ...polished ..no contrived vibrato ...warm rich and unforced sound...great tone colouring ...this fellow just ' breathed' through the flute.
Now that is truly effortless. I love how he is caressing every note.
