This is the best interpretation of "Syrinx" I have ever heard. I think this is how Debussy would have wanted it to be played. In this interpretation, I can literally hear or feel the faun who is longing for his lost love. This is what the piece is about.
@@fjdyyh2542 My man or whatever: I am aware that Debussy is no longer alive. But I think every composer has an idea what a composition should sound like when it is played. This is what I wanted to say.
@@geo-nardo6758What if he wanted that players 100 years after his death would play it like they want to? He was quite innovative thinker after all like all great composers. Probably he'd want u to compose something on your own terms too. In conclusion, he is dead and we are not. Music doesn't belong to dead people, it's not an item in the museum but a living thing
@@fjdyyh2542 I think this is getting a little off topic. The above video is about Debussy’s “Syrinx” and Pahud’s interpretation thereof. It’s not about me or what I should do or become. First and foremost, a composition “belongs” to the composer. Therefore, it is (in my opinion) justified to think about it, if the composer would have liked a certain interpretation or not. In my opinion - which you don’t have to share - music has a TIMELESS component to it and includes living and dead people as well, especially the composer and the people who have liked the composition and for whom it had a certain meaning - no matter if those people are already dead or still alive. Over and out.
You can’t get that tone out of a silver flute, honestly. Before thieves got to it, I had one of these 18ct gold on silver flutes. The tone was amazing. Jupiter DiMedici made the one I had.. hope this helps 🙂

I played this on my gold and silver flute for every competition in high school and a little beyond. When I was having a good day, it really was a showstopper of a solo piece. Nice to see someone else who chose the same piece. Debussy is dreamy.
@@sasquatch6903 no, not really. But it has always been a piece that I've really felt and held dear. A good composition that allows the musician to highlight their tone and emotion. It's sometimes used for states auditions (all-state band/orchestra in highschool) because of that.
@@sasquatch6903 yes it’s super hard! It’s a Grade 8 piece for Associated Board music exams. I learnt it at 17 for my grade 8 flute exam and still try to play it once a year at least. It’s very tricky but a beautiful flute piece. I’m 31 now and don’t get to practice my flute as much as I’d like sadly 😢

Wild story. Pan is mourning his lost love, Syrinx by playing the flute he _made out of her_ because she was turned into a reed at her own request in order to dodge his advances in the first place 🤯
Does anyone know of a solo flute composition with the exact first note as the one in Syrinx? I have been trying to find it but i havent heard it since childhood

I love how he fades out at 0:12 without going out of tune, it was so smooth. That’s something I definitely have trouble with
it’s increadible
Try slowly moving your lips up as you decrese the sound

Thanks. Looks like I need to improve my air steam and play slower to phrase this properly. What a beautiful version of this piece.
Debussy one the absolute greats, I imagine this is how he imagined this to be played, with such passion. Emmanuel Pahud is superb

I played this in school and when I was finished the teacher said "that was awful"
it is quite a hard piece so there's a LOT that can go wrong.
