Lullaby Of The Leaves is a song I first heard as a boy in the 1940s, and one that became an immediate favourite. It remains so now, even as an 80-year old in 2020. There have been some classic recordings of it over time, but I really believe this interpretation by Ella the best reading of all. Voices fit songs, and hers is the perfect fit for this. Thank you for the share, RoundMidnightTV.
I'm happy you've had a song to love throughout your life. I feel like everyone gains a song that'll be burnt into their minds until the end. I think mine is Home On The Range, since my dad would sing that when I was young and scared or sick. He's still around, he just doesn't sing it anymore since I don't live with him anymore.
Congrats!! I'm also 17 and also found this beauty of a song when I was 16 or something, I hope more people like us can find this and enjoy a masterpiece this is
I found the sheet music to this song in a piano book I've had for years. Several days ago, I played it for the first time and thought it was lovely. So, I searched for a recording of it and was not disappointed to find this rendition! Such a silky, romantic voice! Thank you for sharing!
7 billion views for garbage, and yet this gem remains unheard by most of the world. A shame...but a thrill for those of us who've found the queen of sing.
The number of views will never actually represent the worth of an item, so whether this has 0 views or 10 trillion this piece will always be utterly perfect in every conceiveable way.
heard it for the first time today and I love the lyrics, the voice and then the music. Going to be my favourite - I agree it is the best version of this song - I have not heard other versions but I don't want to. This version has my vote
The original by George Olsen would be Misplaced in Time. I think Drifting Time Misplaced, though, is sampled from this version. It's weird, though, that I prefer the original song over this one, and yet I love Drifting Time Misplaced more than Misplaced in Time.
Love this version. However, don't really understand why the lyrics were changed. This is a song about a specific PLACE, namely, the Southern US. Original: "Cradle me where Southern skies..." This version: "Cradle me where summer skies..." Original: "That Southland..." This version: "That's heaven". Nothing about the original lyrics has any overtly patriotic or problematic overtones, a la "Dixie" or "Sleepytime down South". I don't mind it, but it's weird. Would you change "Autumn in New York" to "Autumn in South Jersey" or "Old Cape Cod" to "Old Gold Coast, LI"?
maisie 11238 The lyrics should be sung as written. They had special inference by the lyricist and composer. Sing it the way it was originally written, please!
Yes, I don't like the way they changed those lyrics. It completely dumbs down the song. The song is supposed to convey the, um, I guess sweet heavy nostalgic atmosphere of the Southern US. Why did they ask Ella to sing different lyrics? Because a black singer singing about the South has too many uncomfortable racial overtones for a wider audience?
If Ella wanted to sing those lyrics she would have. She obviously felt she could connect to slightly different lyrics better, and without that better connection her performance would have suffered a little bit.

I really love Ella's version of this song, and Mary Hopkin's, too.
When you're 80 but still not misplaced in time. Hope you get to celebrate 90 in good health.

The guy who's looking at her in the photo background, the look on his face says it all.

p eibye Sing it as written, not to appease some record company suit who is soulless.

best rendition of this song in my opinion. spike wilner did a good piano cover though

This is a great version, but Mary Stallings live version is a must hear
ah yes 1964 missplaced in time
