- May 13, 1988: 14-year-old Benji Hayward attends a Pink Floyd concert at Exhibition Stadium and buys blotter paper sprinkled with LSD.
Sadly his disappearance and death created a panic in Toronto regarding kids and drugs. This is a very sobering and brilliant CityPulse summation of the story, with the always incredible Gord Martineau.
Retrontario’s primary mission is the preservation, research and exhibition of rare videotape recordings (1970s to 1990s) recorded off of any and all Ontario (and surrounding area) TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. We also hope to create an ongoing oral history of this content through comments left below the videos. Please add to this evolving history, if you know more information pertaining to the clips, fondly remember them or have a modern thought all comments are welcome! I remember this very well
The statement by that father was riveting. No drama. How different from today's "look at me!" world.
The story that inspired an episode of Degrassi Jr. High in the third season
Love Gords voice
I was at this concert. Rest In Peace, Benji.
Always stay with your friends
I remember this well, I knew friends that went to that show.
What Canadian band wrote a song about it?
I Know that Toronto that never ever forgot about that.
I was at this concert.
ohhhhh
A buck and a half for acid? Christ I just paid $20 for one. Inflation is a bitch.
Not to mention it was better stuff back then, RIP Benji
