I miss the DSTOM days, that was lighting in a bottle! David has had the best solo carrier, with Rick and Nick and with just Rick, my God, Echoes at RAH! After Rick died he truly grieved for Rick. But the big Romany English Spirit he is continuing to be brilliant in music and his way as a human being. His charity, and dedication to music. I don’t think he is done. How I would like to meet him . A real true gentleman who can kick ass when he wants to.
I think he's at the point Robert Plant was at many years ago, after Bonham died. He looks back on those years with fondness, but wants to move forward with something else.
Yeah agreed. Robert had it rough in the last years of Zeppelin. The car accident, his son dying suddenly and then his close friend and drummer dying just completely changed him in a few short years. Gilmore seems to have had some things to finish in Pink Floyd even after Roger left. I thank David for sticking it out and leaving a much better legacy for Floyd than it would have had if it ended when Roger left. Seems like he, and Robert are at peace with the past now.
I was fortunate to have seen them, at the old Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, in 1988. It was their Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. They put on an incredible show; I believe it was close to 3 hours long. Great memories…
I found them at 16. My fathers Darkside album. It had a profound effect on me (more than The Beatles ever did. Not to compare). I'm 42 now, and I just cant help but be grateful that I lived in a time that they were a musical force, commanding attention, and astounding whoever would listen. David is a supreme talent. RIP Rick. It's a shame it ended the way it did with Roger, but the music is blasted into stone. LONG LIVE PINK FLOYD!
The greatest!! And omg grandpa crushing he was also a very attractive man...brains talent and looks! One of a kind thank you lord for creating this man❤
I think David gave up on Pink Floyd when he lost Rick. He stopped using the name to make music, he even sold most of the gear he used with Pink Floyd. There was nothing in it for him any longer, because he couldn't play with his friend any longer.
I hadn’t though about Rick’s loss being an impetus for David selling off all his guitars. But that does make sense. In a BBC documentary about David that I watched last night Polly mentioned that David auditioned quite a few keyboard player for his solo band, but always came home disappointed that none of them were quite right. Or quite “Wright” really. He was finally realizing what Rick brought, and how indispensable his keyboards, and his friendship were to David. David doesn’t really expresses feelings about Rick in words, but you can hear it in his music. And yeah, I kind of think it would hurt Dave to the core to try to be Pink Floyd without him. And perhaps that is his motivation for selling his Pink Floyd gear - to put that behind him permanently in his own mind, because it could never be the same without Rick. It couldn’t really be Pink Floyd. And that’s probably why he doesn’t play with Nick, either. Too close to being PF again. (Though I think making an album under a new name “Gilmour-Mason” would be a wonderful thing, though I doubt it will happen.)
@@sdownin72I don't think he was auditioning others because he didn't realize Rick's value. I think he was doing it for charity. One more Pink Floyd tour, maybe one in memoriam of Rick, would have generated a lot of income. And as we all know, David would have donated every last penny to charity. But I think he just could not bring himself to do it.
Gilmour is an example for all mankind. Soft-spoken, kind, generous, and dedicated to his art. Never brash or bombastic, this world could use a lot more of his ilk.

I just haven't found a version of shine on you crazy diamond that hits like the Pulse one does
So true. Sounded amazing
I saw that tour
It's a shame all good things come to an end. Thank you, David, for sharing your gift with your inspirational voice/music vocally and on your 6 strings
Thank you Mr Gilmour for your grace decency and overwhelming talent that you have shared for all these years.
And Pink Floyd is priceless. Legendary.
Love the name…and the Somg!
Holy crap. He's one of the best guitar players in the world and this is the question she asks? This question has been answered so many freaking times.
Syd and him can arguably be n the top greatest. Perhaps not syd because of his mental illness.

He’ll always be the guitarist form PF wether he likes it or not. Don’t pretend like you listen to any of his solo work. They need to get back together and tour before they die.

This sad video left me Uncomfortably numb.😔 Long live sir David Gilmour ✌️
he has not been knighted
Fair enough, they've had a great run. And now that Rick is gone, and Roger and Dave not being able to reconcile their differences, it is hard to imagine how things could continue.
We will always have their back catalogue to enjoy, and treasure!
Arguably the greatest band that ever lived, they will be incredibly huge shoes to fill by any other band that may come along in future.
Thank you for everything you have given us, Dave, Rick, Nick, Roger, and not forgetting Syd. Oh and Storm Thorgerson, for all the great art work.
Saw them in 94 Pittsburgh! Thank you gentlemen
You’ve given us light in the music industry, now shine on you crazy diamond.

“There was a band called Pink Floyd”
That hurt me more than it should’ve
I’m with you. Really hurt my heart. Very disheartening.
@@kp-iv2mp True
Absolutely, SOOOOOO sad. 😢
I'm so grateful that I got to see Pink Floyd The division Bell tour awesome memories thank you David gilmour we all love you. Going to miss the band Pink Floyd
I remember a co-worker offered me a free ticket to go see that show, at Giants Stadium in NJ. I declined. I wasn't the biggest Pink Floyd fan and, at the time, I thought PF just wasn't PF without Waters. In hindsight, I should have taken that ticket.
@@thehighllama8101 - After Detroit (Pontiac), where they did the very FIRST full Dark Side of the tour, East Rutherford was the next, and last time, on the North American leg, before they went back to Europe and it was already known and expected...
Its sad that accomplishing something so great would cause you such sorrow. Thank you for what you gave us. My very first album was Pink Floyd 😢😢
It's too late, Rick is dead, he was the one who brought this cosmic sound
right?
Seriously? We all know who was the genius in this band and it was definitely not Rick.
@@Stargazer-px7fw
Calm down fanboy - we're talking about the one who 'brought this cosmic sound' - not talking about a genius

David and Pink Floyd gave us their all. Give the man a break. He worked his whole life in Floyd and his legacy as a musician far exceeds all others.
not the whole life of pink floyd
One of THE TOP number one people I have always wished I could meet in life is David Gilmour and that's the truth❤❤❤❤ Shine On You Crazy Diamond
BROKE MY HEART. BUT ALWAYS FEEL ALIVE WHEN I LISTEN TO THE BAND. BEST EVER❤
So David there once was a band called Pink Floyd whose lead guitarist would get quite annoyed when asked if it’s continued existence he felt it a pittance for ‘‘twas Roger that made him more annoyed🥰❤️🚀can’t we all just get along 😭❤️
@@Bbbbad724 - What is a Romany English Spirit?
@@Bbbbad724 What in the hell is a "Romany English Spirit" ? I've never heard of that before.
Gilmour is a legend
Best voice
The greatest!! And omg grandpa crushing he was also a very attractive man...brains talent and looks! One of a kind thank you lord for creating this man❤
🙏♥️🧑🎤Grand Guitariste David Gilmour et sympathique Thank a lot .
I love you 💛 thank you for helping me with my music 😍
I could listen to David Gilmour talk all day
I think David gave up on Pink Floyd when he lost Rick.
Thank you David for giving us some of the best music on the planet. Pink floyd had the most unique sound and it really was a treasure of a band.
I respect it. Thanks for the memories, especially the ones I've lost.
Gilmour is an example for all mankind. Soft-spoken, kind, generous, and dedicated to his art. Never brash or bombastic, this world could use a lot more of his ilk.

Pink Floyd, the perfect definition of absolute creative genius in its purest form, as was Bowie, Lennon, Mc Cartney etc.. Thank you for all the joy you gave us, and will give yet to us for the eternity 🙏🏻

He is AMAZING. I love his voice and the way his guitar is so clean. He was really, really hot back when he was in his 20’s, he’s aged nicely.
The right answer for him and for us... he will continue to play, but no album. Thank you
Syd is waiting with great excitement, ready to get back with all you guys and create great music forever and ever , beyond all time. Saint Michael. ( the Winner by a knockout.!!.)
There were 3 versions of Floyd. The Syd years. The core four years. And the Rogerless years. All were absolutely brilliant.
Forgot the post Syd, pre-Dark Side era
Rogerless era is not my thing
Rogerless was pretty soulless.
@@gdawgs101 I believe that would still fall into the "core four" years. I'm pretty sure that means Roger, David, Nick, and Richard. They made up the post Syd, pre-Sark Side years. 🙂
