A long time ago, I went to Toys R Us, and they were getting rid of all their Sega CD stuff. I got a Sega CD with Sewer Shark for $20. and all the games were $10. I got Sonic CD, Shining Force CD, Popful Mail, and Lunar: Eternal Blue... I spent $63 that day.
We're all good friends with John... and Paul is a trained martial arts instructor. There was nothing weird or truly threatening about it. It was played for a joke.
In terms of having a sealed game, i would crack it open and play it, i dont collect to sell the games later, i collect to play the games. I actually don't get the point of buying a game and never opening it because its worth a lot. Why would you buy a game if you are not going to play it?
think of it this way: for the most part, if you're playing the games, a used game is going to be cheaper vs. a sealed game. unless you come across a sealed game that's extremely rare for a relatively good price, you wouldn't bother buying it sealed. most people buying sealed games see it as an investment, or they specifically like collecting them. [i'm talking about older games btw... current gen or last gen i prefer new games in general, and yes i open them and play them[

I have been collecting for approximately 20 years. I take pride that the vast majority of my collection was purchased in person. Everyone is going to have their opinions about why I didn't show other Sega rarities. I am well aware of the UPC sticker rarities and Blue cart re-releases and have several of them. I saw that going on ebay for 700-1k+ but I saw another one titled as that going for only 70$... I guess misprint copies go for a lot more. I just emulate.. i'm not loaded.. don't judge me. I wanna play something.. i had the money to build a decent computer.. i can't afford all the awesome games out there... so what i do is pretty much just something of a last resort really.. Call it desperation...
Most of the games i keep emulating are not even available on something like Nintendo's VC, for instance.. there are a LOT of DataEast games we will never see for purchase.. games like those.. i tend to emulate on my PC.. or games that are only available if you have hundreds of dollars to spend.. tend to emulate those to. I don't emulate anything new.. i just don't... but mainly only cause i prefer older 2D games anyhow.

You can easily go to a store with 20 bucks in hand and get several boxed Genesis games. Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2 are also great systems with vast amounts of super super cheap games. I emulate too, but if I can find a real copy of a game, I'd much rather have the real thing over an emulated game any day.

Yeah, its cool to have a sealed copy of a title, but my priority is playing the original version over just letting it sit on a shelf if I am unable to get a 2nd copy of it. Shit, is Joshua harder to get then Spiritual Warfare? I got a complete copy from an Ollie's that had a big shelf full of them and always kicked myself for not grabbing a couple extra.
in my opinion you should use an emulator, or get a repro, if there is a really valuable game thats rare and sealed. even if you don't care, it helps preserve them. games are degrading and disappearing :( so we should try to keep them around as a community, ya know?
at the time of this comment I looked up james "buster" douglas knockout boxing for the master system and there was one selling at $500 unsealed and was the only one I found

When it comes to sealed games, I would sell the sealed to buy a used copy if I want to play it. That way someone who wants the sealed copy has the chance to get it instead of having it ruined.

I bought some sealed Dreamcast games, admittedly no shortage of them for every box of them that surfaces from month to month, but I busted those open to play them, given how cheap they were. Fuck Dreamcast fanboys, I don't care for them. :)
I just did a complete playthrough Crusader of the Century. I must have played it wrong, because during the entire game I never came across anything remotely resembling an RPG.

The back story on the "sticker" SMS UPC is that those are PAL carts imported to the US and the UPC is a sticker over the European UPC. Spiderman, Strider, Golden Axe Warrior and Sonic the Hedgehog have them. James Buster Douglas Boxing was the last true NTSC release for the SMS henceforth the rarity. Over in Europe is is George Foreman boxing. I collect Sega exclusively :)

I've started collecting for the Sega Saturn, but exclusively in Japanese since so few of the games require any knowledge of the language, and many of the same games are a fraction of the price in Japan than they are in English. That doesn't stop the rare ones from reaching into the hundreds of dollars. The best-known one is probably Radiant Silvergun, but I was shocked to learn that not only did Street Fighter Alpha 3 come out for the Saturn, it's actually better than the Dreamcast port. Both of those games regularly get into the $200-250 range. But the holy grail of JPN Saturn collecting is a little number called Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru. Outrageous prices on eBay. Haven't seen it for anything less than $750. Sealed copies have stretched into the $2000 range. Apparently, less than 8000 copies of the game are known to exist.

What a mega collection. Though I understand why collecting complete system collections is a goal for some gamers, It still is funny to think paying a lot for a game like that boxing one where you do not even want to play it because it sucks so bad.

I think the jewel of my collection is MUSHA for the genesis. I found it in a pawn shop a few years ago for around 8 bucks, it goes for about $150 cart only on eBay.
What a collection! Panzer Dragoon Saga has to be the best game I've ever played and along with Shenmue 1 & 2 and Shining Force III are my favorite games of all time. I also still need to play Snatcher I hope I can do that eventually.
If this guy really opens up the games, I applaud him. It's idiotic to collect something that was meant to have its contents explored and leave them sealed. Plus, popping these open takes ludicrously priced items from the gaming collector scene. It should be done more often and maybe the hoarding mentality plaguing it will diminish.

I know this is an old comment, but considering you spent most of the time in a JRPG doing the same thing over and over (random battles, grind, exploration etc), 20h is probably around what you can get the most out of the game.
I sold my Crusader of Centy years ago... A few weeks ago I found it at the game shop and it was my original cartridge. Still has my saves on it.

Hey everyone, good news.. for those of you that loves retro gaming, I've just started a new dedicated Facebook group for SEGA Retro Gamers.
It will cover the full line of Sega video game consoles and games: Starting with the SG-1000, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis/MegaDrive, Sega 32X, Sega CD, Sega Game Gear, Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast.
Expect a lot of activities in this group, such as useful files, pictures, contest events and everything about the Sega consoles, add-ons, case mods, flash cartridges, games variations info. (demo, hacks, homebrew, etc..), Sega emulators, game manuals, etc... and other SEGA fans!

I think the jewel of my collection is MUSHA for the genesis. I found it in a pawn shop a few years ago for around 8 bucks, it goes for about $150 cart only on eBay.
What a collection! Panzer Dragoon Saga has to be the best game I've ever played and along with Shenmue 1 & 2 and Shining Force III are my favorite games of all time. I also still need to play Snatcher I hope I can do that eventually.
If this guy really opens up the games, I applaud him. It's idiotic to collect something that was meant to have its contents explored and leave them sealed. Plus, popping these open takes ludicrously priced items from the gaming collector scene. It should be done more often and maybe the hoarding mentality plaguing it will diminish.

The guy with the game collection looks a lot like a hunter, if I ever saw him i'd assume he is a hunting person, not a badass video game collector! Impressive collection indeed.
Panzer dragoon saga is not long, 20 hours max to 100% without idle playing. But it is a masterpiece
I know this is an old comment, but considering you spent most of the time in a JRPG doing the same thing over and over (random battles, grind, exploration etc), 20h is probably around what you can get the most out of the game.
