Yea, covid has made a huge impact on retro game prices. I collect for the og Xbox, and I've watched prices rise steadily since just before covid, up to now. My own collections worth has gone up considerably. I'm sure once covid subsides, demand for these games will wain, and prices will drop again. Now is a tough time to collect retro games. Hell, it's even tough to buy the newer consoles and GPUs.
About 6 years ago I bought a huge Rubbermaid tub full of old games and consoles from a co-worker. There were 48 Genesis games mostly CiB and MUSHA was in there CiB also, mixed with a few Saturn, Sega CD and 3dO games. Also had an entire Genesis Frankenstein system but it was in horrible condition and looked like he used it as an ashtray. Had a broken 3DO also. I ended up paying $50 for the whole thing, I made out like a bandit!
I have very fond memories of Crusader Of Centy. I rented it when it was new and then I bought a copy for around $50 a few months later. I even found the hint book at some random drug store that sold game strategy guides (I also bought strategy guides for Chrono Trigger and Super Mario Bros 3 from the place.) Eventually a few years later I sold my copy along with Shining Force II and Master Of Monsters (I started fazing out of loving RPG games so I sold some of my collection.) I wish I didn’t sell my copy since it’s worth so much money now sadly. Thankfully I still have the hint book laying around somewhere. The game itself was amazing and I really liked the music. The only other game on this list I had was The Punisher (I only bought it because it came with a tattoo). I didn’t really enjoy it but I gave it to my brother a few years later and he still has the game. I used the tattoo and if I recall correctly, I wore it to school the next day and almost got in trouble. I have played Skeleton Krew on an emulator website and I will admit it’s amazing but I wish it had a little more content like you said. It’s also worth noting it came out for the Amiga CD32 (Only in Europe though since that system never came to the USA.).
Considering the price of the cartridge, Crusader of Centy is the number one RPG that I wish had been included on the Sega Genesis Mini (although, yes, I know you can hack the Mini and add it, which is probably also true for any other Genesis or Mega Drive game except for Virtua Racing). One minor correction, the original Splatterhouse was never on the NES or Famicom, it was an arcade game that was ported to the NEC PC Engine/Turbografx-16 plus the FM Towns Marty and PC.
You’re right! It slipped my mind that it was only on turbo-graphx for some reason I thought it was on NES.
