I’m happy to see this. I love that you give recognition to so many wonderful Ds games. I remember when the DS was huge, and I miss those days. The Ds/Wii era feels so forgotten and underrated nowadays, which is saddening. Mariokart Ds is the greatest Mariokart game imo, and my favourite. I remember playing super circuit on gba with my sister, as my first Mariokart. We had a blast with it, but the game was also pretty frustrating. Mariokart Ds was such a remarkable improvement, and brought so much to the table. The characters and karts were awesome (ROB was my guy), and tracks like waluigis pinball or airship fortress were so cool, and such a blast to race on. The drifting mechanics, item placement, and item balance felt really good to me. Mariokart is always a big RNG fest with items, but this one felt fairer and less random than other games (looking at you Wii!). I loved having to master the racing mechanics to beat this game. Missions were a really unique mode. Some of them were quite challenging and pushed me to my limit as a player. Bosses being in Mariokart was just remarkable, and a lot of them felt fun and distinct from each other. My favourite thing was the battle mode, especially balloon battles. Block fort was an outstanding track, with the other battle tracks being great too. I loved the last man standing nature of the balloon battles, and the risk/reward nature in your number of balloons. Also, stealing cool coloured balloons to synergize with your balloon colour was awesome. As positive as you were towards the battles, I think they deserved a bit more love. They were fantastic! I found the battles were nowhere near as good in the sequels, though Mariokart 8 is a step in the right direction. I want battle stages from Ds to return, along with the last man standing feel. I spent so many hours playing this game with my siblings and friends. I also had a blast going solo, thanks to the mission and battle modes. Easily the best singleplayer Mariokart. I really hope to play this great game with other people someday. It’s been too long. I loved seeing you delve into this wonderful Mariokart game, and give it some of the love it deserves. It brought back a lot of good memories. I’d love to see you do a video on the masterpieces that were Heartgold and soulsilver. @@DuoStuff yes his stuff from a year ago is pure gold but he rebranded his channel and I couldn't find that energy again until I found your Luigi's mansion over analysis
Yeah I will admit, his rebrand hasn't been my favorite. His tone just feels more... "down?" I don't know. He still makes good stuff, it just feels like a downgrade.
For me Mario Kart DS always felt the hardest to control, but this video and the comments made me come to the conclusion that I was probably just bad at it especially because I was used to the motion controls on wii
Well it also depends on the character you choose. The heavy characters, for example, control really poorly. I always stuck with Luigi thoug, so I had an overall easy time controlling it.
I barely remember playing this, but I know I played this a lot. My favorite track was tick tock clock and maybe Waluigi’s pinball machine, can’t say if they were tied or not.
I only briefly got the chance to play Mario Kart DS back in middle school thanks to a friend who brought it to school one day. I thought it was pretty alright, and honestly I'm now starting to think I missed out on a wee bit of a gem
To be fair, Mario Kart Wii had weekly challenges for some time before the WFC shutdown. Those challenges were basically mission mode but unfortunately they can't be accessed in any way now
The Mario Kart Wii community would like to have a word with you. There's still hundreds of people that play it online daily on private servers on the Wii. it's also the best Mario Kart game ever released.
Mission mode was planned for Mario Kart Wii at some point. Though this was unknown until 2018, when files relating to mode were found buried deep in the game ten years after it was released.
Why am I the only one that likes Figure 8 Circuit? It's basic, but that's the point. Sometimes you want just a nice, smooth race where the only hazards are the other racers.
You're makin me sad about abandoning my review video for MKDS before I finished it. Excellent video tho, you probably did a way better, more concise job than I would've.
I mean you could always still do it. Plenty of people have covered this before me. The individual always brings a unique perspective to the topic. So you might end up making a good video regardless.
@@DuoStuff Yeah we'll see. I tend to go too far and try covering every little thing and wind up writing very long and cumbersome scripts. I'm in the middle of making a big ass review video for Origami king right now, and it's taking a long time. I don't think I wanna make big videos like these very often because they take so long, and regardless of how stupid long they end up being, I always feel like I'm leaving stuff out. You didn't really phrase this video as a review, moreso just a video talking about why you think it's cool. I think having a simpler angle like that is a better way of doing a video about a game.
Well it can work either way. Generally I'd frame the kinda stuff you're making as a "retrospective." Branding it that way means people will know ahead of time that it'll be super in depth. And even then, long content can also be good, even if it does take WAY too long to make. XD
@@DuoStuff I know there is a place for longer content, and uf it's well done and people like it then fair enough, but if it does poorly then I just wasted a tremendous amount of time and I'd rather not risk that.
Ah yes Mario Kart DS, my favourite! The fun multiplayer, the emblems, the missions, the best mechanics...another reason the DS Mario Games are the best.
I know that. What I'm saying is if Nintendo really wanted to, they could just make new models and put a full on story mode even if they, y'know, tried a little. XD
@@DuoStuff thank you duo I appreciate it dude You're honestly great :)) like even if I don't particularly like a series or game or something you always manage to make your videos fun and it's nice to see you interact with your audience too
DS was a cool console quality game that improved on previous iterations rather than just being a side grade or spinoff. It was also better than Wii, so it was the best Mario Kart game in the series for a LONG time
I played this game almost religiously online back then. Not all stages were available online either. Maybe half of them. Your rank wpuld also appear by your name too. If you got three star ranks on all the GPs, you had three stars by your name online. I actually did this too, but that also lead to the game's massive problem with people disconnecting. They start and see your rank, and automatically disconnect when they see the rank and feel its not worth it. The online had a prolific snaking problem too which would get old sometimes when you came across them.

It's not my favorite, but it's top 3 for sure. =D
am I the only one who got a bit teary-eyed hearing the credits music at the end?
You know what your videos give me more than entertainment at this point alax is still fine but your style of editing has won me over best TH-camr of 2020
That's actually kinda shocking. I consider Alax's editing to be the best of the best, so it's really surprising to hear I'm even comparable quality-wise. Thank you.
Wii did have tournaments which basically were like in mission mode. BUT also it has an unused mission mode.
Mission mode was also planned for MKWii, but was cut out shortly before release
The last time I played Mario Kart 7 was a couple months ago since it's my favorite thanks for asking
It's actually your favorite? I really enjoyed that one, but people always dismissed it. (Though to be fair I prefer 8 at this point.)
@@DuoStuff It was only my favorite because it got me into the truly competitive side of the series lol
I mean that's fair. 7 is super tight in terms of it's controls, and thankfully doesn't have a broken mechanic like snaking in it.
the only thing I like about 7 are its tracks. But some of them have returned in MK8 deluxe so now I don't care anymore.
i was all chill. then the mkds en theme faded in and i was on the verge of waterworks
Fun fact: like nsmbds this game was built off 64ds
I actually did not know that, so thank you for that information.
I played mariokart ds so many times as a kid it was my childhood
pls make a video on the death note one-shot
Always my favorite mario kart game
keep up the good work!
Thank you! =D
I will NOT tolerate DK Pass slander. one of my favourite mariokart track of all time ong
In Balloon battle I never actually knew you could blow up balloons with the mic and just used select until I breathed too hard once
I barely remember playing this, but I know I played this a lot. My favorite track was tick tock clock and maybe Waluigi’s pinball machine, can’t say if they were tied or not.
Those are probably my two favorite tracks as well. Both are just so imaginative and fun, and Waluigi Pinball in specific has some amazing music.
I only briefly got the chance to play Mario Kart DS back in middle school thanks to a friend who brought it to school one day. I thought it was pretty alright, and honestly I'm now starting to think I missed out on a wee bit of a gem
Yeah I think you might've missed out a little bit, but if you got to play any other Mario Kart at all, you didn't completely miss out.
To be fair, Mario Kart Wii had weekly challenges for some time before the WFC shutdown. Those challenges were basically mission mode but unfortunately they can't be accessed in any way now
Yeah that's kinda the issue. Hard to count it when I can't play them. XD
Where tf is wii, people still play and host that *online*
Ds was indeed sick though, my most played childhood game
I honestly just forgot to mention Wii. I'll give it a video down the road though.
The Mario Kart Wii community would like to have a word with you. There's still hundreds of people that play it online daily on private servers on the Wii. it's also the best Mario Kart game ever released.
this is my favorite Mario kart game
Nice! Mine are this one, Double Dash, and 8. =D
10:55 thought Luigi was flipping me off
Mission mode was planned for Mario Kart Wii at some point. Though this was unknown until 2018, when files relating to mode were found buried deep in the game ten years after it was released.
MAN WHAT IS IT WITH THE MARIO DS GAMES BEING SO GOOD
WHAT HAPPENED TO THOSE DAYSSS
The ds wario stadium music is for sure the best
3:21 …I forgot how they made Donkey Kong double-cheeked in that show.
DS is the most innovative (mission, custom emblem, karts,...), and most fun. That's why it's the game I enjoyed the most !
Why am I the only one that likes Figure 8 Circuit?
It's basic, but that's the point. Sometimes you want just a nice, smooth race where the only hazards are the other racers.
Double dash Was the first video game I remember playing
I think the first game I remember playing was either Finding Nemo on the PS2 or Banjo Tooie
@@GeorgeMarionerd Yeah I get that honestly.
i swear thats my sans icon
I mean I legit just copied the sprite directly from Undertale, so it wouldn't surprise me. XD
Oh nvm lol
Glad to of grown up in the DS era. Mario Kart DS was a hella good time
Indeed it was. =D
Forgetting about MkWii's massive playerbase was a based move on Duostuff's end.
Ah yes Mario Kart DS, my favourite!
The fun multiplayer, the emblems, the missions, the best mechanics...another reason the DS Mario Games are the best.
It was just another case of the DS entry being one of the best. =D
@@DuoStuff DS did so much right
The boss models were from mario 64 ds, thats why they havent done mission mode again
Ok so? They could make new models
They could always, y'know, just make new models. XD
@@drezz8k thats why they made the mode, they had the models
I know that. What I'm saying is if Nintendo really wanted to, they could just make new models and put a full on story mode even if they, y'know, tried a little. XD
@@DuoStuff they could, but they wont
I mean I remember Mario Kart DS but not much of what was in it so this was a nice throwback to those days thanks :)
Glad I could bring you back then. =D
@@DuoStuff thank you duo I appreciate it dude
You're honestly great :)) like even if I don't particularly like a series or game or something you always manage to make your videos fun and it's nice to see you interact with your audience too
Well thank you. My goal is to make videos that are fun to watch, so I'm glad it's actually working somewhat.
@@DuoStuff it's definitely working and I'm sure that I'm not the only person who feels this way
Well I hope so at least. The last couple months the channel hasn't been doing as well, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. XD
This and the original arcade gp and wii are my favorites
I actually never played much of the arcade titles. Kinda interesting that it's one of your favorites though. You don't hear about it much.
DS was a cool console quality game that improved on previous iterations rather than just being a side grade or spinoff. It was also better than Wii, so it was the best Mario Kart game in the series for a LONG time
your videos are really well made and really cool!
Well thanks, I'm glad you enjoy them. =D

Mario Kart Wii: am i a joke to you?
Hi best friend! Loved the video! Wanted to stop by and bring back your copy of Super Smash Brother Brawl for Wii you left at my house. Silly you. You sure did forget it Ha Ha. Anyways take care man.
Lol I actually had to borrow a copy for that Subspace video actually, so that's kind of a fun coincidence.
@@DuoStuff It’s not a coincidence.
finally some mario kart ds hype, like i know the wii version is good but there are others and this is a prime example
Glad you're here for the Mario Kart DS hype! =D
Hey man I love shroom ridge it’s very underrated and the music is grand!
While this isn’t my favourite Mario kart game, it’s still a great time all around
Once again great video!
Thank you! I'm glad you ended up enjoying the video. =D
