      I'm depressed too because of Facebook. As an entrepreneur I thought it was something wrong with me in particular that I compare myself with other entrepreneurs who had better business than me. So it is not me, it is how Facebook is designed toake u feel less important...

    I got off of Facebook for over 1 month and I feel much happier and more at peace with myself. Someone said they felt like they got there life back and so do I. It's not natural to know what thousands of people are doing in their lives it's like brain overload. Your emotions are up and down constantly never leveling out. I noticed after a week my mind is more quiet. I'm at a place now that I will NEVER GO BACK to all that BS! Do yourself a favor live your life not somebody else's. Peace!✌

      You are right even without social media the brain can be overloaded . As soon as I wake up I don’t check my
      Phone but I already have many things running through my brain and that’s just with my mind !!! No phone checking in the morning so imagine adding phone time in the morning . I don’t even check my phone in the morning . We absorb too much crap from this earth and then wonder why we have bizarre dreams or thought and chaos !! It’s best too focus on what matters is we aren’t overwhelmed tornados Goes bless u all stay blessed

    Finally Facebook is going the way of MySpace! #DeleteFacebook

    • @SummerSausage1
      @SummerSausage1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No it's not. MySpace got phased out for something 'better' aka Facebook. Facebook won't go away until it gets phased out for something 'better'. I don't know what grade you're in, or where you work, or your life, but I wouldn't be surprised if everyone in your life plans stuff through Facebook. Having a birthday party? How do you get the invite? Does your friend/family/etc email you? Text you? Or do they just 'invite you'? When someone wants to send you a photo from that event, how do they share that to you? Flickr? Email? Or do they post an album on Facebook and tag you? Honestly it's so engrained in everyone's lives that simply deleting Facebook for any reasonable person isn't feasible; I would expect these deleters to come back eventually, as they always do, after every big outcry about Facebook every few years.

      It's ok, it's designed that way, and you're not the only one. Talk to someone about this, perhap's do it with one of your friend, would be easier if you're together in the same boat :) make a list of what you need as features, try to find alternatives. It's especially hard for "us", artists, content creator, developers, etc,... who take a great benefit of a part of facebook features. And keep it up with your channel, you look like doing great ^^

    The problem these days is how not to be left out trying to live "the old way". I would love to plug out all my electronic devices and just slowly enjoy the reality around me, but I would instantly become an alien for my friends. I would lose social connection to them, our common interests would almost shink to zero, because I would not know what is going on on the internet and what the joke is about. Back in the days we would just meet and tell one another whole bunch of news and silly stories. And now it's gone, everyone knows everything even before you open your mouth.

      Well they could tell you the old-fashioned way of what is going on and you don't need social media to do that! We did it back in the 90s and especially the early to mid 2000s! It was called going outside to meet people and you can even use an app called meet up where you can meet people in your area with similar interest! If anything, Facebook makes you out of touch with reality and especially if you have depression and PTSD! If you go to those groups on Facebook for similar things and you tell the raw truth of what you went through and you need help coping with it, they will judge you just as much as the real world and tell you to get over it and that it is not their problem which is true but I didn't join the group just so I would get judged like I do the rest of the world. I wish I could go back to the bipolar and depression group but they say I can't go back until I'm vaccinated which I refuse to do!

Actual tools that help me connect not just browse. My friends and I moved into a group slack so my messenger use has dramatically dropped. The News Feed is the worst thing to happen to socialization.

  • @carolineh366
    @carolineh366 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Self-comparison is a really interesting concept here. I know that he said that Facebook and recent rates of depression are not directly related to each other, but it is important to note how constant comparisons of yourself to your so called “Facebook friends” negatively impacts how we think of ourselves in the real world. Self-comparison still even seems to be strongly affecting Facebook users in a widely negative way despite the fact that we know that most of these images are idealized and posed. Facebook and other forms of passive viewing social media have created an environment that exploits both our need for socialization and acceptance as well as isolates us from real human interaction and the rest of the world. I’m not saying deleting every social media app is the answer but maybe taking a break from time to time is a good solution. I like the idea of asking myself " what am I not doing".

    It's amazing to me that people are only now catching up to this. But I guess it's common for an addict to be in denial about the negative effects of their drug of choice.

    I used an ol 3310 like phone for about 2 year now, but spend most of my day at my desk and with access to facebook. I'm that guy who always rant about others being locked to their small screen, yet spending hours scrolling through my feed once at home. So I thought I was "in control", I don't need facebook everywhere with me, and it's my main p2p communication channel, can't do otherwise. Don't have really any active account on insta/twitter/etc
    Found a desktop app for messenger, disabled desktop notification and added a rule to block facebook.com in firefox so I can try to get out without loosing contact and chat features.
    If you feel like facebook is doing bad on you, it's probably the case, but it's ok to not be able to leave, it's designed that way, talk to your (supportive) friends, even through facebook, make a list of the benefit it does for you, and decide, don't be alone in it if you need help, nice people will never mock you or anything when asking for help when you need it.

    I hate Facebook, but I. was addicted. What made me turn was the fact that most of my "friends" were strangers and it only gave my relatives a peek into a small percentage of my life. It caused jealousy from them and these are people I didn't care too much about. I hated reading the comments on posts and getting into senseless arguments. People are mean behind the screen. Also, I couldn't control the content in my feed. I was getting all of this ghetto/hip hop mess that I couldn't stop from showing up. If you just pause to read the one headline 50 more sponsored posts would appear. Lastly, I can see the posts that my "friends" would respond to which lets me know that your responses to posts isn't contained there to just the posts' audience. I hate Facebook. Never again.

    I never compared myself to others. My issue was the popularity contest. I wasn't popular. Im not saying popularity is a compliment but it is nice to not feel invisible sometimes. I know it isn't even about me. They are just so self involved they don't see others. So then, what's the point.
    All the negative judgement, arguing, passive aggression etc. Where's the fun?
    I think a person could maybe be ok on there if they didnt add people or get involved in debates. Like my Instagram is just a constant feed of kittens and dog rescues 😂. Any bs from anyone and they are blocked.

    Let me tel you my story pleez ! I am a naive person who never think ill of people or have negative views/ideas about them. I always take relationships or issues with simplicity and proceed with a positive attitude & mindsets. I got into Facebook late in my life like 2 years ago. I’ve only been on it for 2 weeks !! Let me tell you that it already tainted me and made me toxic ! How ?! I tell you, I was showing my Cologne collection, my newly bought brand new Honda motorcycle and I happen to be handsome ! I was always liking happy people and anyone and positive comments ! Suddenly I noticed that some would post me some vile comments without provocation ! Like: you are ugly, how did you get that bike, did you steal it. You are an immigrant and don’t deserve that lifestyle & how come you got a taste for colognes, etc ! This really made me blow my naive mindset & start believing that some people got sick Hearts full of envy & jealousy ! Btw I did not show my whole life there on FB, I would say just 25% of my happy side but the hate & toxic communication I got made me question humanity. Without social media I was living a flawless life, not worrying about what I have and the need to show off, but FB made desperately want to keep up with others who have lavish lifestyles in order to stand out, if this happened In real life I would not feel depressed knowing that someone had a better outfit or a vehicle than me, in fact I would be eager to compliment them and start a conversation but onli e it made depreseee and have low self esteem cause the infatuation & obsession with stale pictures and their vividness made my brain and mind feel hopeless and banging on a closed door made of steel !! FB makes the world a superficial 1, made to shape up opinions & preset your behavior to certain characteristics not healthy nor fit for humans.

Off Facebook for a few weeks now, those feelings have disappeared, I buy what I want, go out when I want, and have a new found appreciation for my life my job and the people in my life 😍

    Facebook is the worst social media platform ever.

  • @ChrisLerouxDesign
    @ChrisLerouxDesign 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've literally been saying this for years.... on Facebook. It's a weird fucked up catch-22 situation because you become dependent on what the platform itself provides, convenience. It's like when you take a hormonal supplement but then your body just stops producing that hormone naturally and starts depending on said supplement. If I delete Facebook, well then pretty much my only method for contacting a lot of people disappears entirely - my social circle crumbles in the blink of an eye. On the other hand, if I stick with Facebook then none of those relationships feel authentic anyways. But a decade of using Facebook has weakened my "socializing" muscle so I take what I can get.
    You want to know what's fucked up Lou? I work from home, but last year I took a second job at an office not for the money, but specifically for the human social interaction. It did absolute wonders: the "high" I got from that was tenfold of scrolling through a Facebook feed.

    I deleted FB a few months ago, and feel much better. I have Twitter exclusively for media and I have Instagram and a few of my previous contacts from Facebook in it but they don’t use Instagram as often and most of the pages I follow are general travel and science, so I am not that engaged in social media anymore.

      Beta Tube I’ve been on fb since 2007-2008 & it became such a staple in how I kept up with a few people (my grandparents, high school friends, you know the drill). Thinking about that, I realized I could name every person I stay on Facebook for, so I downloaded my profile onto a hard drive & am amazed at the free time I’ve found, my productivity on Instagram & Twitter has skyrocketed, & it’s settling knowing I’m not going to get triggered by some thot I haven’t seen in 3+ years.

    I hate it even when i get like 6 likes waiting for me on fb because i realy dont want to be bothered with interaction even when its positive because I DONT CARE! I dont seek validation! I know what i said was good because i said it ffs. i may be interested in direct communication or interesting things from a friend. I am not about political activism, advertisements, people trying to boost their fragile ego by collecting humans into friend folder or their particular cause or business opportunity.

    I was never addicted...To Facebook...Even I have checked my profile probably 100 times or lesser in 8 years on Facebook...So all I can say is if your friend circle is designed and maintained in real world and not in digital simulation of Facebook you can always communicate with them without Facebook...And you will always be happy...
