      Best thing in DS2
      Majula
I dont do NG+ but I almost want to do one of DS2 for the comfy feeling of Majula.
If I was a newgame plus kind of guy the changes would rate highly as well. I seriously dont understand why they dont do that any more.
Haveing a pvp-player jump out of a bosses mirrorshield is just so bad ass.
Best of DS1. Yeah. Its the maps / short cuts. Im actually playing it for the first time right now. Even if Im used to Fromsofts shortcuts by now I still got my mind blown when I opened the door in Darkroot Basin that led to the Undead Burg.
      BB best bits?
      The atmosphere and the storytelling.
      Best ER. Stakes of Marika.
This simple feature removes the worst things in previous soulsbornes. The runback.
Otherwise they just take the best bits of all the other games, polish them up. Add a jumpbutton and an open world and BAM.

Midir was the real first dragon I ever encountered and he definitely lived up to the dragons I only heard of via item descriptions and weapons. Died to him the most than any boss too.

Ngl for a game defined by exploration, I don't think Elden Ring's exploration gets enough credit. People are too quick to diss it's open world but I genuinely think it probably has the best sense of exploration in any game besides probably outer wilds. It keeps unfolding like an origami continuously and it never stops feeling stale (until when you already know the surprises). Yeah it doesn't hold up quite on a 2nd playthrough but I'd argue: for a game that's over a hundred hours long and driven by discovery, does it really matter if later playthroughs may not hold up as well? It's really one of the games I wish I could play again for the first time.

I’d say Breath of the Wild (and probably Tears of the Kingdom but I just started playing it) has the best sense of exploration, but Elden Ring is the only game I’ve played that comes close. I’m way more interested in ER’s lore and visual style so I probably enjoy exploring the lands between a little more than Hyrule, but BOTW is pretty much entirely about exploration and Hyrule is just perfectly designed.
The lands between are broken up into very distinct regions that are usually connected by a very small area or even just 1 or 2 individual paths, so it feels more like a series of islands connected by bridges than one big landmass to explore. You can explore all you want, but you’re always working towards that one skinny connection to the next island in the chain. So while the map is very big and open, it’s still somewhat linear on the largest scale.
Hyrule is just one big squarish landmass. The distinct regions are just different corners of the square, so they feel much more interconnected and it gives you far more options for how you choose to explore the map. Every ER playthrough will go from Limgrave to Liurnia, then to Altus, possibly throw in Caelid somewhere, and then to the mountaintops and finish the game. BOTW playthroughs can take many different paths through the regions and the divine beasts can be fought in any order. You can fight many bosses in ER in various orders, but not the mandatory story ones, and there’s still a more “proper” order because of level scaling.
This isn’t really a problem or anything with ER though because at the end of the day they’re just different games with different goals. BOTW is a game about exploring an open world, whereas ER is a game about putting a Dark Souls game into an open world, so naturally they’re gonna be designed differently

Bro i believe anyone who say it doesn't feel special in second playthrough, is lying and never actually played it(they just repeat what the haters voicing since there's little to non that actually makes elden ring a bad game)
The games absolutely huge even at second playthrough or more, you'll discover something that you didn't know and that sense of feeling that you still haven't see everything in the game that you loved so much, gives this sense of motivation to play the game more even after completing it
plus the game has the most option for different builds and from what I see elden ring has the most player who played the game for more than thousand of hours, elden ring having no replay value literally the dumbest argument for downplaying elden ring

And I forgot to talk about elden rings lore, if you're like me who literally read everything and don't want to watch a lore video of elden ring because you want to discover the lore on your own, elden ring lore gonna sink into you're very own head and it gives a different feeling in your second playthrough knowing the lore

Wish I could delete my memories of Elden Ring & get another first playthrough out of it (and maybe a rebalanced last quarter of the game, because that enemy healthpool & damage received inflation is kinda ridiculous).

@Helldragon789 Elden Ring still does it far better than any Dark Souls game, with things like special heavy attacks (Wing of Astel, Frozen Needle, Carian Sword, Mantis Blade, Meteoric Ore Blade, etc), as well as multiple movesets for singular weapon classes (Poke and slash type halberds and spears. Normal and knight greatswords. Punch, pierce and smash fist weapons. Normal and fancy Greataxes. Slashing and guillotine Curved Greatswords. Etc)
And that's not even touching on Weapon Skills. There are also the very occasional unique weapons, like the Guardian Swordspear and Cross Naginata.
Of course, Bloodborne is still unmatched with every single weapon being completely unique, with two different forms to boot. But I think Elden Ring deserves credit for how well it managed it.

DS2 has the series' one example of what I called "Adventurer's Paradise", and its Dragon Aerie. The dragons flying around like hornets around their nest, the respectful NPCs just bearing witness to your strength as you traverse an ancient temple, ending with the blessing/boss of a MASSIVE dragon...
My honorable mention is DS2 is Shulva, Sunken Sanctum. FromSoftware showed the world "Dark caves in games can be well designed, you all just have Blackreach trauma."

You've got to play the original Demon's Souls (it can be emulated on PC at 60 fps via RPCS3), it excels in atmosphere and is one of their most cohesive feeling games, as its dev time constraints resulted in an area cut entirely rather than exiting but being underwhelming as is the case for Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith and Mountaintops of the Giants.

DS2 early game design is simply incredible. At all times you have at least 3-4 paths you can pick and you go wherever you want and nothing feels like you're hitting your head against the wall. DS1 had multiple paths but people will still play it in a linear fashion because of how difficulty ramps up. DS3 has only Dancer that you optionally can fight at SL ~15, but after that, you can't really push through, you pick up what you can and go back to the regular path.
In DS2 you can do whatever at any order because everything is manageable. Everywhere you have mixed enemy types, so you have big, heavy units that have small pull range and you can outrun if you can kill them, and smaller bullies, that even though have solid damage, you can easily stagger or bait into opening themself into backstabs. You can run through everything on your skill and it doesn't feel like you're simply getting stat checks. Most enemy placements are designed in a way to either give you smaller, more meaningful fights, or a way to pull a group into a tighter spot where you can fight them 1v1. If you're gank-squaded it's either because it's a scripted ambush you will now know about, or you screw up and you need to change your approach.
This is great. Like, I was just looking for some ideas on where to go now just to find suggested pathing for DS2, and basically all I've done was in the middle of the list, while I skipped a good amount of positions, and it never felt like it. And areas still feel challenging and I'm getting caught off-guard, you can't really feel how overleveled for the area you are till you hit the boss of it and they are vanishing into thin air.
I've heard a lot of bad things about DS2 and yes the game has its set of issues, but this game is full of great mechanics and design choices and even the things I didn't like at the start of the playthrough make sense now.
Honestly, we need DS2 II. Just with someone who knows how to do interiors, design boss fights with more than three attacks that can't be beaten by hugging the right leg, and less running through a snowstorm, tyvm.

The Bloodborne disrespect.... *What I liked about the other games: DS1: The world, atmosphere and feel of the game. DS2: Scholars of the first sin ruined it for me and I didn't finish, but the levels are all awesome looking. DS3: Love the boss fights in this game, some of the best imo. BloodBorne: My favorite souls game and overall in my top 3 for favorite games. I know I said DS1 for atmosphere but BB takes it to another level. The story is amazing and I have spent hours watching lore videos. I love the small amount of weapons that all have the trick mechanic, I'd rather that than 100 different types of swords. Also, some of the best fashion souls. Sekiro: I still haven’t finished yet, I’m having trouble with the parrying but the combat does feel fluid and amazing. Elden Ring: The story and grand scale is perfect, love that I can either level up more or try a fight under leveled. It really lets you pick your difficulty level. The whole setting is beautiful, you can literally take a screenshot almost anywhere that would make an amazing wallpaper. Some of the best fashion souls in this game as well.
Top 3 favorite areas: DS1: Anor Londo, BB: Yharnam, DS3: Irithyll of the Boreal Valley.

    @GuidedByCompassion 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I'd say this list is very fair and good as to what some of the best things about each of these titles are. My personal list is a little different though. For Dark Souls 1, the thing I like most about it is the TENSION. I swear there are so many time in DS1 where they make you brave near-death moments while carrying tons of souls. DS1 makes you skirt around barely traversable cliff sides more times than I can count. For DS2, my favorite aspect was actually the PVP (Back when it was popular). Yes the high stamina cost of attacks limited the amount of aggression you could do, but this made it so that every action felt like a commitment, and people who didn't understand this and charged in wildly would be super easy to kill. I also personally liked running a Hexer/Pyromancer in PVP, and there were genuinely cool spell combos you could do like throwing a Flame Swathe at your feet, and then roll catching them as they dodged it with a Dark Greatsword or Dark Dance. For DS3, the thing I liked most about it was that it just felt consistently good. There are very few times during a play through of DS3 where I say to myself "Damn, I really don't want to have to go through this next area/boss). Every area feels unique with a specific playstyle in mind. Faron Keep you want to do quickly and aggressively because of the poison constantly on you and the fact that the enemies have aggressive, long combos, but are prone to being stunlocked. The Catacombs you want to do slow and methodically because of the traps, and the fast that you never really know where the skeletons are going to reanimate around you. Just consistently good areas with clear themes to each one's playstyle. Sekiro I pretty much agree with you on, though. That game has some incredible bosses. I could go on about how this was the first time Form Soft tried to make a stealth game, and they actually did really well at it. Or how some of the areas like Fountainhead Palace, and Ashina during the night raid have amazing atmosphere and emotion baked into the setting, action, and music... But let's be real, despite all those aspects being top notch in their own right, Sekiro's bosses are so insanely good that they have to be my favorite thing about that game.

Dark souls 1 is easiely the World building. Dark souls 2 had some of the best little features. Bonfire astetics, Pharon stones, so many questlines, so many little secrets or the ng+ changes. It has just moments were things like these are so cool and then I remember that their could be better or get overshadowed from the bad things. Bloodborne takes atmosphere for sure. Perfect setting with a complex lore which is super Interresting. The dark theme is so terrifying and so cool its awesome. Dark souls 3 has to be the boss quality. Ds2 may had some pretty awesome bosses but ds3 just crushed it with them. Lorian, dragonslayer, nameless or Midir are just so satasfying. Sekiro is without a doubt the combat. I don't think I have to explain this. Elden rings best thing was the ash of war system. They put all the things you could do with a weapon and put it into a system. Its simple but its great.

Your praise of Sekiro's extremely limited options, it being balanced and all, is like saying that if the world is nuked many times over, there will be peace on Earth. Yes, there will be peace since no one is alive to fight any wars. Just like there are no options besides a katana and a few limited prosthetics that rely on a non-replenishing resource, the bosses can't be balanced against anything other than that katana and a few limited use abilities. Sekiro brought in a more usable jump button and we are all thankful for it.

Honestly, one thing that upsets me is that the bone fist moveset from DS2 never made a comeback, not even in elden ring. It was by far one of the funnest experiences i had in dark souls 2, was the fist-weapon combat.

Demon’s Souls: if we talking about remake, visuals. If about game itself, simplicity. Everything is so clear, no cryptic bullshit
Dark Souls 1: Interconnectivity, yada yada. Next
Dark Souls 2: PvP and attention to detail. Like torch mechanics, pig quest, interaction with arenas and etc.
Bloodborne: weapons, atmosphere and DLC. Especially soundtrack.
Dark Souls 3: pacing and co-op. Dark Souls 3 is not “too” big to become boring, but when you finish it you do not feel that there could be more(including dlcs of course)
Sekiro: boss catalogue and convenience(stealth, pause, etc). Also it has the best storytelling, great balance between narrative heavy game and puzzle stories like previous games
Elden ring: Sheer variety of everything. It’s obvious, but cmon

I would like to be respectfully personally offended that Demon's Souls was not included. The first Souls with a mana system. Ill admit it didnt age as well as these others, given it's horrible boss AI, the dependency on Stockpile Thomas(no dis, he was a bro and his short "quest" hurts me, not to mention his "heart of gold" line makes him feel like just the kindest character. but item carry capacity is a terrible fit for souls games.), the tendency system needed work... but IMO it did the dreary, hopeless, dying world atmosphere the best. So many bosses that are memorable. Old King Allant, when you walk into his crumbling throne room, seeing the man looking over his fallen kingdom. that eerie organ adding to the atmosphere that you dont see in modern game soundtrack nearly as much. Maiden Astraea...the boss fight is just literally a human NPC in armor. just some dude protecting his love. and her last line of dialogue. "Fine, take your precious demon soul" before killing herself. or the alternative if you kill her before her bodyguard. He just stands with his head lowered. Was even bold enough to have a quest where you kill the NPCs of the Nexus. I appreciate and respect the video, and I know DeS wasnt as popular as the others, and I get why, but I do think it deserves an honorable mention for the things it did right. because despite its glaring flaws, the things it did well, it did better than all the other games IMO. Keep up the great content my dude, and dont you dare go hollow

DS1's level design is obviously super good. What I find interesting though, contrary to Elden Ring, is that the satisfaction of these shortcuts and such still holds up after the first playthrough virtue of the overall game design and difficulty, I think.
DS2 was actually my first DS game. It has quite a few things going for it despite overall being a C+/B- imo. Build variety, a satisfying NG+, world design, a very pleasant multiplayer experience during release, and hella drip🔥.
DS3 is by far my favorite feeling game. I think it has the "fast Dark Souls dance" balanced perfectly. That being said, combat, bosses, and music are all superb. At least within the souls formula, it's a jump button and DS1-tier level design away from being a genuine masterpiece, which is something i dont put out lightly. I can't speak on pvp tho.
I have a love-hate relationship with Elden Ring. I'll be upfront and say it's my least favorite I've played thus far. Regardless, like you said, the spell catalog fucks. So much flair and variety, it's awesome. I also adore the art direction. I don't think it quite matches DS2 in intrigue and intricacies, but it's definitely very pretty. The first playthrough experience is also incredibly good. Nigh perfect if you can avoid the burnout imo. The immersion was also really good in ER. Sitting down at a grace and letting the ambience, music, and sense of relief sweep you up was very easy. Also, I have IEMs, so being able to hear almost every little detail helps here. Very relaxing game sometimes despite everything wanting to kill you lol.

While I would have loved another beautiful area to stealth-murder my way through, I think what they did add was still great.

Dark Souls 2 and its Caster mechanics and support. In my opinion, outside of spells, DS2 absolutely crushes Elden Ring in this area:
Attunement and not Dexterity determined Cast Speed.
Various Spell Restoration items could be both purchased and farmed.
    Spices
    Catalyst Shields/Weapons
    Catalysts can be Infused
    Hybrid Catalysts
Catalyst Weapons can be Non-Physical Infused AND be Buffed
Caster merchants are useful post NG
    Duplicate spells have a use
Outside of spells and damage stacking equipment, Casters felt extremely barebones in Elden Ring, especially due to the lack of Ash of War variety and that the R2 button is still useless.

    • @anstorner
      @anstorner 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

For Magic i understand since most of the spells are just different itineration's of the Comet Spell, but for incantations they made miracles actually goated and i prefer that, and since Dexterity now dictates cast speed, now you can wield an actual weapon with an catalyst so u dont have to be 100% spell only run while attunement now dosen't siphon levels from you, and now they are given by exploration, which most newer players will encounter alot of them.
Compared all 3 Dark souls games were the first time i wanted to use pyromancy, i had to look out an guide on how to even cast any spell because i was for like 1 hour attempting to just throw an fireball.

Any need for Dexterity for Casters could be entirely mitigated if From ever bothered to actually update Caster Gameplay.
R2 is basically a dead button. It could easily be swapped out for an FP-free cantrip spell, something similar to Farron Dart/Flashsword.
L2 is basically a dead button for Casters, since they basically gave Casters almost zero Ash of War options. The ability to at least put the spell-like Ash of Wars would be a tremendous boon for Casters in terms of gameplay.
Two-Handed L1 is also a dead button, due to the abysmal blocking stats and that you can't Guard Counter. It could easily be swapped out for Spell Aiming or even a Spell Wheel to make selecting spells easier mid-combat.
      -/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-
My personal beef with Dexterity determining Cast Speed, is that it's another Primary attribute. It's the equivalent of tying Equip Load to Faith.
Attunement (Mind) is the Caster's version of the Endurance stat, why is such an important component for a Caster build being assigned to what is arguably a Martial build's stat?
Why is From insistent on pushing Caster builds into Spellblade builds?

Oh and if you are craving more sekiro like combat try Lies of P. It has the awesome deflection based combat great bosses but also the weapon variety I lacked in Sekiro. Great video.

Bruh how did dark souls 2 have the best lore with the dlcs. Most of it is just the same ideas again from dark souls 1. And the story in the dlcs is also the same thing three times over. Also I think the stuff you said about dark souls 1 with all the characters being complex is better in Elden Ring. In Dark Souls 1 they mostly carry the same sort of character arc with the exception of Seath. But in Elden Ring it feels like each of the shard bearers have unique different backstories and characters, and then Radagon is like a cool twist villain. Also I don’t understand how dark souls 2 has the best exploration and world. Like you talked about how you can go to seven places in the beginning but in Elden Ring you can go to like 500 places in the very beginning.

I felt that intro spiritually. Every time I think I want to replay dark souls because it’ll be fun, I enjoy everything up until the end of Anor Londo,.Then I go to the dukes archives or bed of chaos or tomb of the Giants, and just uninstall again 😂😂
Great first half, fuck the second half

I don't know man, apart from the gank battles in Elden Ring, the bosses there and in DS3 are just as good as Sekiro. Some are even better let alone the pure spectacle of most bosses in Elden Ring than in Sekiro. Sekiro's best thing in my opinion is either the Inner versions of Isshin, Owl and Genichiro, the mods that expand movesets and best of all, you can fight any boss you want at any time when you feel like it.

Since demons souls isn’t in here I’ll say it’s this. First of all graphics but that doesn’t really count so I think boss uniqueness is the best thing for it

Ill agree with level design for DS1 but id also have to add in sound design and music.
DS2 id have to give it best atmosphere, as well as what you said of just being open to new routes. Its so nice to come to a hard boss and just being able to decide to come back later.
I would argue DS3 is the most solid game mechanically save for sekiro but i refuse to compare it to sekiro because i dont say apples and oranges are the same thing.
Elden ring i feel theres nothing particularly special about it, it feels like they took the best aspect of all the games and kinda evened them out. Decent combat, decent world design and decent music but nothings particularly better than its predecessors. Most the games are like 7s and 8s and a 10 or two, elden ring just fits right in the 9 category in most aspects, not quite perfect but also not bad, save for the story. I dont care if george martin was involved in it.

Sekiro is absolutely a part of the souls series. I don't know why anyone would argue that it's not. Just because it's single player and has a more linear story? Nah. Fromsoftware definitely innovatived on this title and it definitely paid off.

    favorite souls game?
i mean... darksouls 2 got me into the series, darksouls 1 was quite fun, but the capra demon is... well the capra demon, darksouls 3 had some awesome bosses and its the one i played the most and elden ring is just plain fun to run around in.
i am still missing sekiro and demon souls, but they are high on the list...

To me, ds2 hsd the best magic system for to reasons 1st its balanced and fair, like ive never once had a moment where I felt it was unfair when i fought someone using magic. The second reason is the sheer diversity of spells with the resonate subset of spells using your souls as ammo and damage calculation. All the hexes really have something unique about it. Miracles have blinding bolt and splintering lighting spear spells that have never been repeated since and well now im rambling so ive said my piece and im done now.

Usually when i get invaded by an mage i get oneshoted by an bigass spell, but miracles were done so dirty considering before they were good.
