Some Muslim restaurants in China do not serve alcohol, but they do allow you to bring alcohol. So pay attention to this when choosing a restaurant. If you're a beer lover.
So hilarious to see that 花心萝卜 (red-core radish) is translated into “philanderer”. 花心 (literally, flower/colorful in heart/core of food) is used figuratively to describe playboys because they flirt with different women at the same time.
shanghai outskirt is peaceful, but it's worthy to go to the bund, shanghai, it's a top 1 must to go place for shanghai, hope you can visit the downtown area.
Since you gave the road sign, I checked on Google map and you guys are 40 minutes away from the city centre where the Bund is. That is quite far away. Although you're much closer to Disneyland, but it is still a 20 min drive. And since you're on the far eastern outskirt of the city. You're no where near where all the older districts are (i.e. the inner districts that are on the west side of the Huangpu River).
@@JennandLeon The older district are where one should visit, because the heritage sites and buildings from Republic of China (i.e. in the early 20th Century)are all over there. Since you are more than 40 minutes away plus time to travel further west if needed, you'd be surprised that you may stay 2 hr or more just commuting going to and from.
Thank you so much! We certainly did. We cannot wait to return and explore the country fuller. We love ancient history and architecture so we plan to do a month long visit into the fuller areas of China as well.
philanderer, lol, that radish I believed is what we called watermelon radish. the translation on the app is not actually wrong, but in another dimension, because the menu says that kind of radish is “花心萝卜”in Chinese, which is also a slang for a playboy, aka philanderer
The garlic is to eat together with beef noddle, bite garlic a bit and eat with noddle, all Chinese must consume immediately while it is warm. After 20minute? The foods is cold. Taste will be different. These shop are halal Muslim foods.
Yes we didn't know that at first. We only figured it out when he asked us if we were muslim. We were a little bit confused because we thought religious practices were not allowed. We learned so much in such a short amount of time.
Welcome to China and happy birthday to Jenn! Where you stayed is the outskirt of Shanghai. In Chinese terms It is not typical Shanghai. It's beautiful though. The "real" Shanghai should be the bund and people's park I am sure are on your bucket list. The noodle is a typical northwest dish, served by (mostly but not entirely) Muslim Chinese. Typical local dish are like pan-fried bun stuffed with pork, crab meat noodle, Fried baked scallion pancake. Go try them when you are in town. So basically It is like you visit New York, stay at New Jersey and try Texas food. Very unique experience though😊 China is huge, I wish your first visit be good enough for you to plan a longer trip to discover more of her diversities.
Thanks for the explanation! I suppose that is how people tend to travel. It is a little harder with the reading barrier and we were quite surprised honestly to even realize there was a muslim community in China. We are planning a fuller trip with a large visa to explore all of the areas. We both love ancient history and architecture. I (Jenn) love kung fu and I really want to visit the Shaolin Temples...we can't wait to explore the different cuisine as well. Thanks for the thoughtful and helpful comment!

Shanghai has many tourist attractions and most of them are in downtown area, e.g. the Bund, Yu Garden, Nanjing Road, Huaihai Road, etc. You'd better move around and look further, Enjoy your trip!
Question: Why don’t you just use Google Lens, Samsung Bixby Vision or Microsoft Translate apps to translate the menus and signs to English. You can download an offline language pack so you don’t need data / VPN to use. Just wondering.
Also, if you're a beer lover. It is legal to drink anywhere in China, you can drink while walking on the street.
No! It is illegal to drink alcohol while driving a motor vehicle or moving machinery!
@@dxJ-qt2th Of course, what normal person would drink while driving?
Gorgeous day to be out exploring!
Yes we we're very lucky! Nature was celebrating too!
Welcome to my hometown😊
Thank you 🙏🏼
Welcome 👍👍👍
Thank you
I wish you a happy birthday in China.🎉
Thank you so much!
20T means that the bridge can pass a maximum of 20 tons of trucks.
Welcome to China. the restaurant Lanzhou noodle. It’s very common in China but it’s surprised to see the BBQ in Lanzhou noodle. the BBQ is looking good. In China there’re so many delicious food. It takes time to explore. Hope you enjoy your trip in China.
北京的兰州面馆里面都有羊肉串呀
China is really beautiful and there are a lot of beautiful scenery.
Yes we had a wonderful time!
Welcome to China and enjoy it❤❤
Thank you 🙏🏼
Some Muslim restaurants in China do not serve alcohol, but they do allow you to bring alcohol. So pay attention to this when choosing a restaurant. If you're a beer lover.
welcome and enjoy china
Thank you!
amazing China❤
happy birthday jenn,by the way i like that beef noodles and im very hungry now😂
Thank you! Yes they are delicious.
Yes that is all correct. Both distance and community. What is the point you are trying to make?
@@JennandLeon The older district are where one should visit, because the heritage sites and buildings from Republic of China (i.e. in the early 20th Century)are all over there. Since you are more than 40 minutes away plus time to travel further west if needed, you'd be surprised that you may stay 2 hr or more just commuting going to and from.
Great, you had a perfect birthday in China. Wishing you happiness forever.
Thank you so much! We certainly did. We cannot wait to return and explore the country fuller. We love ancient history and architecture so we plan to do a month long visit into the fuller areas of China as well.
the mushrooms are called needle mushrooms, which is a delicacy in china.
They were so good! We enjoyed them very much

Chongqing is a good and distinctive city, and I hope you can explore and visit it
Yes thank you we have it on our list!
philanderer, lol, that radish I believed is what we called watermelon radish. the translation on the app is not actually wrong, but in another dimension, because the menu says that kind of radish is “花心萝卜”in Chinese, which is also a slang for a playboy, aka philanderer
I see! Thank you for the clarification!
❤❤❤happy birthday 🎉
Thank you!
Keep up the good work 🎉❤ I love your videos
Thanks Cody and we love you!
@@JennandLeon love you too girl 😘 can’t wait to see you again and get all the behind the scenes details too!
如果你们有时间的话,中国适合深度游。上海可能是全国消费最高的几个地方。建议你们多和路人,店主聊聊,问问哪里有好吃的。大多数人都很愿意帮忙

The garlic is to eat together with beef noddle, bite garlic a bit and eat with noddle, all Chinese must consume immediately while it is warm. After 20minute? The foods is cold. Taste will be different. These shop are halal Muslim foods.
Yes we didn't know that at first. We only figured it out when he asked us if we were muslim. We were a little bit confused because we thought religious practices were not allowed. We learned so much in such a short amount of time.
@@JennandLeon Muslim foods are very populars in China.
You have been to two Lanzhou noodles, and they eat garlic raw. Lanzhou is a province in the northwest. Muslim minority is popular there.
Shanghai Zoo has pandas as well as lots of other animals, and it's on the metro system so it's easy to get to. Just an idea...
I can't wait to see a panda. Do they have natural conservation areas for them also in China?
@@JennandLeonWelcome to Chengdu Panda Base, one hour's drive from Chongqing.

Very unique experience though😊
China is huge, I wish your first visit be good enough for you to plan a longer trip to discover more of her diversities.
@@JennandLeon Your shocking experience on China is not unprecedented, a lot of English speaking trvavellrrs have posted Their China vloggs after the post pandemic open up. I would suggest you take a look for your next trip planning. I am sure their experience will give you some inspiration. I would emphasis on the usage of online payment App WeChat and Alipay and how to get around language barrier using translattion apps. To name a few of the travellers: Sun kissed bucket list, two mad explorers, the Hutchinsons, alan & shannon, ken abroad, jetlag worriors, alina mc

you guys were just in a suburb so won't be too different from any suburb around the world. as you can probably tell, not many if any foreigners would hang around there so the locals were curious what you guys were doing lol. also no tipping in china.
Yes and we love that it feels more natural and casual.
