Thanks for the nice vid. 🙂 Like you I also love my cat, Cleo, and I hope she lives a happy, healthy and long life. I definitely agree with all your tips. When I adopted Cleo, little was known about her. So, I immediately took her to the vet. She was diagnosed with an early CRF! I was devastated! I made my research, which actually led me to your channel, among others. I fed her raw food, and gave her lots of water. I even bought her a water fountain. 🙂 She drank like she never tasted water before! Long story short, we went back to the vet a month later to get her spayed and do a more thorough blood work. Voilà! The results are good! We'll visit the vet annually for checkups and tests. I believe a proper diet and lots of love really help our small furry friends live the life that they deserve. Cleo is sweet but she gets naughty every now and then. 😂 She knows what I don't like her to do, and she does it when she wants my attention. 😂 "Can we play now?" "Can we play now?" 😂 We play before and after each meal whenever possible. I try to make her tired by letting her run and chase the toy! 😂 However, she sometimes has her preferences (smart girl) , and cat mom has to follow her lead. 😂 Another thing that I do for Cleo is making sure she feels at home by catifying my apartment. She has 2 cat trees now, and a blanket with holes because she loves hiding and ambushing. I also got her a top entry litter box. (Actually, this is more for myself, because I got tired of too much litter tracking! 😂) I plan to further catify my place, when Fluffy leaves for the hamster heaven. In the meantime, I'm thinking of taking her to the park for walks, and I know I have to let her get used to wearing a harness first. So far it isn't doing well with her body stocking. (after getting spayed) She's shredded parts of it! 😂 😂 😂 I've heard that walking a cat is actually cat walking hooman 😂 😂 😂 It would be interesting to see how you do it. 🙂 And how about fleas? Don't they risk getting fleas from walks? I hope Cleo knows that I love her even though I get mad at her once in a while. 🙂

I enjoyed reading your comment! Cleo is very lucky to have such an attentive and loving owner! Warms my heart to say the least all the nice things you do for her! Yes indeed walking a cat is actually cat walking hooman! You have to let the cat take the lead. I think fleas aren't too common in San Francisco, and the climate isn't as conducive to them, but I do give the cats a bath if they become too dirty and I suspect there are fleas.

My cat came from a farm as a kitten and lived indoors her whole life as we live on a main road. She was born in 1997, and me in 2000. She passed away in 2018 at the age of 21. We had a stray kitten who lived to the ripe old age of 22 years. We hardly ever took him to the vet. He did get neutered by a vet school. Ate the cheapest cat food we could afford. The only thing we feel gave him a very long life is that he was an entirely an INDOOR cat. While I don't advise following how we treated our cat, I do feel our cat being an indoor cat helped him live a long life.

I did all of these for my two previous cats, but sadly, they both died from cancer. I’m not sure if there is anyway to prevent cancer in a cat, but I’m happy they were in my life for 14 years, still a good age range!
One of our cats had stage 4 cancer, and we decided to end her suffering early, because she was so sick. We didn’t know what stage of cancer our other cat had, I can’t remember, but she was also very sick, and we knew since they were old cats, they wouldn’t likely survive. It’s hard to let them go, but at least they get to live a good kitty life In heaven. We miss you daisy and Tinka! ❤

I play a lot with my cat, whether it be with toys or my arm wrapped in a t shirt for some rough play lol. I also walk my cat for an hour everyday after work so he can get fresh air and smell and taste the grass that he loves so much. I also feed wet food for breakfast and dinner while leaving Blue Buffalo kibble out (no corn or carbs) as well as changing the water daily.

Of the more recent cats we have had (my husband and I have both had cats all our lives, and are now retired), one passed late last year at the age of 14, and the other, whom we adopted when she was 10 years old, is still going strong at 17, and looks and acts a decade younger. We recently got a kitten, despite being advised that it might be a bit much for a senior cat to deal with, but they seem to be adapting really well to one another. There is plenty of room in the house for our older cat to retreat to, where one of us will generally be for her to get some peace, quiet and attention, but she also really seems to enjoy being around the kitten, only raising a warning paw to him when he starts getting too rambunctious, but mostly staying in his same general vicinity. Hopefully they will become friends as he matures and stops pouncing on her.

Our adorable kitty will be 23 years old in October .. about 115 in equivalent cat years! Your tips are good. I’d also add: later life kidney problems are well helped with Pet Alive Kidney Support, or Denes equivalent (comes in dropper bottle). Regular vet checkups, and a routine for thyroid medication in later life if needed. Veterinary special diets are useless if kitty doesn’t like and won’t eat it. Give them whatever they really like to eat as they lose weight in old age. Patience, care and lots of love are essential. We also stopped annual vaccinations after she reached about 6 or 7 years old and in my opinion they were unnecessary at that point and stopping over-medicating helped her to live longer. God bless cats 🐱 and their caring owners!

My Honey Cat passed a few weeks ago around 17 years old. 💔 I still have her sister, but she’s broken hearted and has been on decline prior with an enlarged heart and thyroid issues. (She’s on meds for both).
Most indoor kitties live a long life. Make sure they stay hydrated through food and water fountains. I’ve known people feed their cats store brand food and live until 22 years old. I’ve also known people that feed their cats raw foods, top tier pet food, and died around 10. Honestly, it’s all genetics. My one cat under 10 passed of leukemia 9 years ago. My other cat Kita 8-9 years of age has squamous cell carcinoma and I have her on holistic meds/food for tears. I’m doing my best to keep her comfortable. I’m desperate to keep her going because she’s determined. For years she was treated for stomatitis. Had her teeth removed 5 years ago, been to several vets, expensive meds, but there is no cure. Sad…

@Purrcuteness Snowball was fit as a fiddle. Mist probably she inherited FIV from her mother. Her mother also passed away at very young age, all of a sudden.
She initially got mycoplasma that led to jaundice and organ failure. It was extremely excruciating pain for her trying to put out a brave front and for me knowing that she was slipping out of my hands and I could do nothing. It just kills one from inside. I miss her every minute of the day. She was the most loyal, loving and intelligent being, she gave me comfort when I would be crying or depressed. But I couldn't save her...

Worth watching just for the beautiful cats and the lovely way you've decked your house out to fill their needs. An incredibly lovely environment. Your cats are lucky indeed.
I have three cats and we live in the country. My cats get to romp around outside with little risk of meeting other cats or animals, and they hunt!
I lost my favorite one though, he got lost in a storm when electromagnetic effects from the sun where interfering with animal navigation (so the newspaper said - after the event!). I found out approximately where he was, but no amount of effort could recover him (eighteen months and lots of money too, advertising etc.). Six years later I still grieve for him, for how he must have suffered as an elderly boy alone in the winter trying to fend for himself.

The problem is that it’s often too stressful to introduce a new cat to your cat. My cat lost her dear companion cat and was terribly lonely. Her vet said that I’d have to replace Beau as Willow’s IBD would be triggered if I brought a new cat into “ her” home. So I’m her companion now although I’m not terribly agile when Im invited to chase after her. I like his suggestions but doubt that many of them can’t be introduced to a less than young cat.
I walk outside with her and she loves that. She’s very very loved by both of us. 🌷

I used to walk outside with my elderly rescue cat! She was 14 when I got her and not leash trained, so we didn't do that. We just walked around the garden together. I pretended to check round corners.... well okay I did check, but there was a role play element, I suppose I pretended to be wary like she was. It was handy thst I'd started this because when she was 16 and 17 she had some urination problems that made her very anxious and she like having company to go for a wee. She and her litter-mate sister companion died within a few weeks off each other, which was extra sad for me but it did mean I wasn't in the challenging position you are in.
Sometimes cats are surprisingly good at getting along with younger more submissive cats if introduced carefully, so that's what I would have tried, but there's no guarantees they'll get along so it's a big risk.
I'm glad to read that you're a devoted companion to your feline companion. What's her favourite game? One of my favourites is feather-under-the-door which is a lot like whackamole but it never stops.

Our cat lived indoors and almost turned 22. I think it's important NOT to feed *dry kibbles* to cats to avoid kidney failure. Cats absorb water through their food.
She was sleeping a lot and a super chill cat. We had a hectic household with 3 kids but she never let that get to her because she could retreat to high places like the top of the sofa, which we couldn't reach until age of 10 or so.
She also was always very slim. She was skin and bones as a grandma cat.

@@Livetoeat171 The problem is not the wet food itself. The pet food industry puts sugar into the food!
Just like humans pets love the sugar, get addicted and gobble the food down which makes us humans think the cat likes the food. Be careful about the content list of the food.
We always checked if sugar appears on it.

You could ration the food and offer a portion of their daily required quantity over the course of the day. Like half the food in the morning, half the food in the evening and watch them while eating so they dont steal food from one another.
Also, depending on age and size they may require more or less food and you may consult a vet about it because weight gain can have other reasons, too.

My cat Shiryuu is 1 yrs old, I adopted him when he was 3 months old, and I've tried to feed him, meat/chicken/egg/tuna /shrimp, etc, cooked or raw, and different types of wet cat food. He only eats the same dry food the previous owner gave him. The vet said that he was healthy. I wish to feed him a healthier diet but...I've tried to mix his dry food with wet food, but he just doesn't eat at all. What I do is add a spoon of water to his dry food. He goes outside on a leash, plays a lot, plenty of love and cuddles from me, and I hope he lives a healthy long life. Thanks for the video.

First time visitor here. You got lovely cats :D
I've been feeding this small tabby cat that lives outside for about two years, and she's friendly enough to let me pet the base of the tail and partially her back. Her neck and head is a no no. She had several litters over the years, and she would bring them over to introduce them to me. Then after a few weeks, she would relocate them and I'll never see them again. Well, one day, she was exhibiting that hiding behavior sick cats do. She would not let me pet her, nor eat the food I bring out. She would just ignore me and go back in her place in the plants with her two kittens. If I approach her she would just hide.
After a week of this, I found her body on the right side of my lawn, and her kittens were screaming because they were hungry all night. At the time I didn't know she was sick. I wish I had done something like capture her somehow to bring to a vet.
So now I find myself suddenly taking care of two stray kittens (about 4 weeks old, maybe?) and although I've been watching and reading about adult cat info and tips and vids for years, I don't know a thing about kittens. I didn't know what food they can eat, so I just opened some cat pate I've been feeding their mother, and well....they just about stepped all over it and spreading it around, crying for food.
It was a long month or so of learning and trips to the nearby vet (thankfully there is an animal hospital/clinic just 5 min away!) and numerous purchases from Amazon, and much advice from ex-cat-breeder co-worker. (The vet and people that work there are very friendly and love animals and my kittens very much. But they didn't mention bloodwork. Maybe kittens are too young? I'll try to ask them today) They had learned to bottle feed after two days, but the male kept biting the nipple off and almost swallowing it, so I had to wean him off early. A few weeks later, I notice the female doesn't eat much of her food because she would be full from drinking her milk replacement formula. So I had to wean her off and introduce her to soft solid food in fear that she isn't getting enough nutrients.
It is now 1.5 months after I have gotten them, and they are living in the spare guest bathroom, with a big soft bed inside a big Costco box. There is a bigger area near the front door, so they eat and play there. They are eating three times day, with enough food so they stop asking for more. They play with each other for an hour or so, then snuggle/sleep with me for 15 min to an hour. Then I gotta do stuff so I put them inside the bathroom so they won't escape the 3 foot barrier we put up or chew on something they shouldn't. I have a cat cam inside so I can check up on them.
I'm wondering when is a good time to start them on raw meat like your video tips. I'm currently feeding them Royal Canin Mother and Baby Cat dry kibble (but I add water to it), and a scoop of Fancy Feast. Thank you for the video and I hope my kitties will live a long and happy life :D

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I enjoyed reading your comment. You are so kind to take care of the stray kittens and the mother. What a wonderful read! So you can gradually start transitioning them to raw at 10 weeks old. Go slow and gradually so they can adjust. here is a video on how to balance their diet: th-cam.com/video/x7We-ReAyo4/w-d-xo.html. You want to make sure to have all the nutrients. If you prefer to buy commercial raw food instead this company looks to be pretty good : www.smalls.com/. Its expensive tho.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Amazing! Finally, truly helpful ideas to implement into the lifestyle of my 2 cats. The Lego train is MARVELOUS! Exactly the kind of thing that I have been searching to find for my cats. Also, the ideas to go biking with our cats (putting them into an appropriately safe sight-seeing cat excursion carrier , and using a jogger stroller with the attached cat viewing enclosure, walking in parks with a properly fitting cat harness leash, and the heated bed ideas. The fresh-meats diet is also helpful to me. I buy what is marketed to be high quality cat food and treats. I can't imagine a diet of fresh meat would cost me more than what I currently buy at the grocery. Especially, if I count all of the cat foods and cat treats that I have thrown out as a result of getting a "bad batch" of their preferred foods. Who knows what is really in pet food 😮? The fresh meat and fresh fish simply has to be best all the way around. I really liked your cat trees and the clever ideas to have cat furniture and their own indoor cat playground. It was attractive and it serves the cats well without being an eyesore. I think your creativity in using cardboard castles and in setting up a cardboard kitty- skyscraper maze for them to wander throughout was brilliant. The heated bed is also a good thing to have available for cats. I appreciated all of the useful and interesting information you provided throughout. Awesome!

Then insert cat in car , go to park. 🛑FIRST PLACE LEASH ON CAT. Take carrier to bushes area. Open let cat out WITH LEASH ALREADY ON (IMPORTANT) THEN place cat IN FRONT OF BUSHES -they love smell of whose been there. And while theyre walking around bushes youre holding onto leash and this teaches them to walk on leash . 🛑While theyre in "this bush smelling state" they CAN BE like mean bobcats. 🛑DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PICK THEM UP DIRECTLY FROM BUSH AREA !! You may get seriously scratched/LACERATED! ! 🛑When youre ready to leave bush area JUST PULL ON LEASH gently walking them away from bushes. If they see you walking they will eventually follow. 🛑Walk them away FROM bushes to boring open grass or open area for at least 15 minutes then walk to car. Then Let cat walk into carrier . Or insert cat into carrier as youre leaving "the bushes area" if youre not doing open field exploration. Walking them in open field, grass is boring for them, they like smelling bushes period. Once theyre learning to walk on leash around bush area you can walk them down boring sidewalk. When theyre smelling bushes its like they turn wild temporarily. Follow these rules and fun will have all and nobody gets hurt

@@TheCatButler - it was a carpeted ‘cat tree’ about 2 feet tall. She had had the cat tree her entire life, as she enjoyed the view 😺
She developed carpal hyperextension, her right wrist became flattened and her right shoulder was bowed out. (There are CARPAL/TARSAL LAXITY SPLINTS FOR CATS - but they are pricey)
I arranged padded steps with low rises up to her perches (the bed, her windowsill, her kitchen chair) so she didn’t have to jump up or down.
She also liked sitting against a tall cushion, like a wedge, for support while she bathed herself. I’d never realized how much the wrist is stressed while they clean.
Seeing her debilitated by this injury, I vowed to mitigate such repeated jumping in all my cats, if at all I could. They do love to jump and if startled, nothing will stop them from jumping off whatever they are up on!
Low-rise steps, boxes in series, and stepped ledges should diminish the stress on their joints. I want them to live long lives with healthy bodies!

I personally believe the diet aspect is very important and possibly one of the most important. I think when any organism eats closer to source, in other words closer to it’s native diet and not over processed, it has the potential to live the longest. Cheap mainstream food full of grain and other high carbohydrate fillers doesn’t simulate food in the wild. I believe it’s the culprit to cancer and tumors not only in pets but even people. A good deal for the wallet doesn’t mean it’s a good deal for health.

I had to quickly change his diet, since he didn't want to eat the CKD wet food, I switched to raw chicken + high nutrition liquid, still some kidkey dry foods, with a water fountain to encourage him drinking.
Now after a year and half he actually gained weight! Although his numbers are slowly getting worse, but I believe feeding raw can slow down the sickness process. He's still very energetic with great appetite. We cuddle every night just like the first time I got him when he was a 3 months baby.

I have 2 cats who i feed raw since they were 7 weeks old.
They are both doing well, now aged 5 years.
The female cat probably had a cold once or twice. The male cat developed asthma at 2 yrs old. After about a year of regular inhaled steroids , he is doing well now and off his meds.
Ive noticed tht my cats have a muscular build and cant get fat on the diet i put them. With raw feeding they do not overeat and their feces is almost odourless. It was not easy to find a vet tht supported my decision to do raw but finally found one who is almost 1 hr away from my house.

@@victoriam7734 he would have bouts of cough and then vomit. My fur son is a short haired moggy so he does not have issues w hairballs. He started to slowly lose weight as well. I didnt really gv it much thought until 2 to 3 weeks later.
It was monsoon seaosn with heavy rain where the temp would drop a little at night.I found him curled up and breathing rapidly ie more than 60 breaths per minute. I am a paediatric dr so im used to seeing tiny premature babies breathing rapidly. He had what is known as nasal flaring and intercosstal recessions. These are Silsgns of resp distress that can also be seen in human babies. I had my stets at home and listened to his chest. It did not sound like childrens chest w asthma but i knew it was not normal. Rushed him to the hospital that night and had an xray done. The xray showd typical changes of asthma. My cat was having and acute attack and could have died. I suggest that if yr vet is not sure, find a more experienced vet for a 2nd oppinion and get and xray done. The treatment is similar to humans ie a course of regular inhaled steroid with as needed (prn) salbutamol. I used an infant's aerochamber to deliver the meds as i cant find an aerokat in my country and it cost too much to ship. Without treatment, asthmatic cats can die during a bad attack when their airways completely obstruct and the usual life span is just 5 years. Hope your cat feels better and gets his diagnosis sorted out.
My cat is doing very well now and is completely off his meds. I keep the salbutamol near in case of an attack. But so far he has not needed it. Good luck to you and yr cat ❤🇲🇾.

Thank you very much for your reply, I really appreciate it. It's very insightful! My cat has no cough, no rapid breathing etc the only thing he has is slight raspy sound in voice coming from throat/nose. It started 11 weeks ago, since then has tried anti-inflammatories etc and it hasn't helped. So just trying to figure out what test is best as I'm worried to pit him under for bronchoscopy! Thanks again xx

Hey, I remember a while back in one of your videos you said you'd make a video on your garden or something like that im really excited for that video and just wanted to ask you if you still plan on making the video, ive been waiting for that video for a couple months now lol and I just had to ask. Also there is always someone every dang video asking about your beautiful cat tree so I think it might be worthwhile to have a link to it in the pinned comment or description or something like that idk.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Oh yeah I wasn't sure if people wanted to see it since my non cat educational video don't seem to perform well. But maybe since spring and summer is around the corner and the flower plus plants are doing well I could finally edit the video. Maybe in the July and August time frame I will release it!
So I haven't shared the link so widely available because I talked to the owner and they are having trouble with fulfilling orders due to a supply chain issue. Currently the waitlist is also quite long, last I checked was 6 months plus wait. Its a small business so I didn't want to overwhelm him with emails of frustrated customers not getting their tree with new ones wanting a tree. He can't keep up with the emails as it is. Once the backlog has been worked out I will more widely share it.
      Thanks for being so supportive!

We had three little kittens and started to grow them when they are just 10 days old abandoned by their mother. We took care like our children but two days ago a group of street dogs killed one of my kittens 😭 . It was the most curious one. It was just 5 months old unaware of the danger it jumped from our compound wall and got caught. We couldn't forget her as her memories are embedded all around our house. Rest in peace Mia

Mixed feeling 's because cats are still animals which means they are "wild" & need to go outside, frequently to keep them healthy.
They shouldn't be shut up in a apartment, house, etc. There's a list of health benefits to giving them their "natural environment".
Definitely agree with Raw Food Diet plan. Raw is so much better. Tricky though if your in a position not able to feed raw everyday though. Inflation, is so high. But, agree with Raw.
We have 2 cats ,other oldest one is in cat food of ok ingredients. She a hunter & hunts all day with a few check ins. He periodically brings back a vole/mouse, bird, etc. We let the kitten eat those after he's done playing with it.

While other tips could be done with my efforts, the first 2 are unlikely possible in my country as the vet here don't do the so called "regular check up". Pets in my country only visit vets when they are sick. Even blood test is only done at clinics that serve foreigners with high price. My late cat got cancer, and the doctor at the clinic offered to do a biopsy for her tumour by sending the biopsy sample to another country for lab testing since there's no place in our country has the ability to do. It's very sad that even with money, I couldn't do anything for my cats, unless moving to a developed country.
