  • As much as we want to believe that cardio is “bad”…it’s not. If used properly. Even fasted cardio can be useful if it is well applied. The theory is that cardio (especially fasted cardio) will increase cortisol and negate your gains. But recent studies and real-life results have shown otherwise. Listen now to hear more!

  • @seeum09
    @seeum09 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is exactly the message that I try to give to people who are doing only cardio and for hours on end to burn as much calories as they can. Cardio is definitely be beneficial for health and even long term weight maintenance. But it's not by burning calories during sessions but by activating different hormonal and enzymatic functions that drive fat loss in the long term by incentivizing the body to keep the weight off. When you do too much steady state cardio your body tries to get as light as it can get losing fat but also losing muscle (keeping only the bare minimum needed to get through with the physical activity which mainly comprises of small type 1 fibers).
    And even the fat loss stalls after some time by just adjusting the other elements of total energy expenditure like bmr and neat and/or by increasing appetite.
    So, cardio isn't bad. ONLY cardio is bad. Especially long hours of steady state cardio. Combine it with resistance training and it is extremely beneficial.

  • @mystictheninja1486
    @mystictheninja1486 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I heard something sorta contrary to what you're saying and I wonder what you think about it. If you look at all the athletes that use glycogen for fuel, they're always ripped with no body fat, whereas when you look at athletes that use fat for fuel like joggers they're always very small muscles with a bunch of fat over it. Steady-state cardio on a regular basis trains the body to rely on fat for fuel, so to make the body able to keep performing that sort of exercise, it becomes better at storing fat because it knows it will need it (so it gets efficient at burning it and also putting it on). On the other hand, the high intensity athlete has no need for body fat, instead they need lots of glycogen so the body never stores fat because it doesn't need it as much for the activity that you do regularly (body stores glycogen and uses it better). An example could be how you see people in the gym for 3 years always walking or jogging on the treadmill and they still always look like shit and never lose fat (sure they're prob not eating in a deficit cuz they aren't counting calories, but their body comp rarely changes because it prioritizes storing fat for the next days cardio session. Opinion? (as an anecdotal example, I am a high intensity person and never do cardio and I eat like a maniac but I'm always very lean)
