I have had a 440i coupe for nearly 2 years now with the performance upgrade, exhaust upgrade and carbon fibre body kit in Snapper Rocks Blue. The car is fantastic and the head up display is so good I rarely look at the dials in front of me. The car is quite big at times in small towns and parking in car parks that are not designed for modern cars. The big 2 doors are not easy in type spaces. The performance is fantastic with the 360BHP, 550NM I get approx 4.6s 0-60. The kick down in sport mode makes your head go back in the seat. If you don't want to use sport mode but still want to hear the exhaust you can keep it in comfort and press the traction control button. This is the button in front of the sport mode button. This opens the exhaust valves at the back and makes a great sound. It does make the rear a bit loose. The sound on the performance exhaust I think is better than the M4 and other BMW's. I get so many comments about the look of the car and the sound. The back end does kick out quite easily especially on greasy roads you need to get used to the rear wheel drive if you have not driven 1 before with power.
@@Fazers-On-Stun Sold it a year ago. Reliabilty was good. Found the servicing expensive which you would expect for BMW. Required new front brake pads and disk £800+. A car like this you have to expect expensive parts when replacing. Extended warranty through BMW approx £750
@@J999cbs Cheers for the reply and nice, that all seems quite reasonable. Been looking to upgrade from my F30 and felt like the 440i would be the next best step 👍
@@J999cbs hey man I’m looking into either m240i or 440i. Being 6’3” my buddy suggested the 440i. Have you driven a m240i? Just want to poke your brain a bit about the differences
A secondhand 440i is the best bang for your buck and closest thing to an m4 for people on a budget. I’m actually very grateful for bmw and how they handled this overall. I’m getting one sometime this year. First Bmw let’s go!
@@joefisher7431I don't think the F32 440i was available with AWD in the UK. The problem with this as a "budget" M4 is that it actually costs almost the same as an M4 second hand today. The 435 (both of them actually) goes for a lot less money so that's the best bang for buck choice.
I have a 2018 440i Gran Coupe xDrive. I think you may have been a bit harsh on the 440i as far as its twisty road handling. I have driven mine pretty hard in the Colorado mountains and this car sticks to the road like velcro. Maybe you should drive an xDrive 440i on the same road. The car feels nimble and has serious never ending power - even in thin high altitude air. I do agree on the average gas mileage, it could be better. The engine is strong and pulls and pulls...feels more like 380hp. All and all I love my car! I'm 64 btw. Thanks for the great videos! You're a very knowledgeable guy.
It's not massive at all; completely manageable on UK roads. It's only 20mm wider than a 3 series, sounds like you're scared of wrecking it as it's your dad's motor lol
I own one since April. Still not bored of the sound. M exhaust. I enjoy the acceleration, which is stunning from 2.5 to 5kRPM. On long trips (more than 500km), the M seats are almost as comfortable as my previous Mercedes. Still can’t believe it. In town, low speed and low RPM in full auto mode is not a problem and the engine remains quiet..
That blue looks like the mk3 Ford RS colour! I am sure that’s what you were thinking 😆 Nice car! Those white leather seats will be fine if they are cleaned with the wright product on a regular basis 👍
Google the old escort mexico, you’ll find a similar colour (usually with two bonnet stripes) and those things are ancient now - he was curious about the original of the colour - heck knows what it is - but it is way, way older than the MkIII Focus RS.
I just bought the shadow line from this car, and I love it...I tested an M4 and it was just too aggressive...Btw Im nearly 60 ;) and no problems on B roads! (Because I can Drive:) )
I like the 440i a lot. The width problem is less of a concern here in the states where the engine is left to shine undimmed. If you are looking for a successor to the E90 or even E46 era BMW coupes, then that would be the M240i. But I like that BMW has a place in its lineup for two stellar coupes.
Interesting video for me as I have a similar 440 with a very similar back-story: mine was originally a dealer manager’s personal car with all the bells and whistles with a list price over £50k but purchased for near £30k. My car is a manual which I have enhanced with the Birds short shift kit and the Birds limited slip differential which improve the car a great deal. The M Performance exhaust that James likes so much in the video is too loud for me - I wanted a “Q” car which is nondescript in a station car park and mine fits the bill. It’s taken me a while but I really like the car. I’ve tried several M4s and they are unruly, loud and don’t handle very well by comparison. I had a 330ci about 15 years ago and the 440 feels very similar to me - a sophisticated, fast, fun-to-drive daily driver. Highly recommended!
You’re a liar. There is no way you can drive a 440 and an m4 and tell me the m4 doesn’t handle well, that’s ridiculous. There is a night and day difference in the handling of an m car and a regular series bmw. Literally night and day.
I wonder how many people in Britain ever actually take their car out just for a drive on a B road without any particular destination (let alone track days). It's a point that always gets raised by journalists when reviewing cars whose future owners will probably never use them like that at all. The truth is the UK still has a lot B roads that were meant for people driving Cortinas which were about as wide as a wheelbarrow (and roughly as safe in a crash). It's the roads that are the problem really, not the car, because this is the same length as a 3 series and literally half an inch wider.
I have almost the same car, 440i F32 in Mexico Blue, with the Opal White Merino and some of the performance bits, but not the wheels or the MPPSK (yet!), I think most of your video is spot on, but surely the size thing applies to many cars in this sector these days. If you wanted a smaller coupe there is the M240i or M2. One problem with these is options are limited, no individual leather, no HUD etc. I drove an M4 and M2CP last week and whilst I preferred the looks and interior of the M4, I think I would pick the M2CP purely for driving, but honestly both of them are wasted on our overcrowded roads with speed cameras everywhere. I picked my 440i with 100 miles on if for under 34k with a great spec, so a ridiculous amount of car for the money as you say. Mine is a daily driver for work and longer journeys. I have a TVR for fun and backroads so no problem there either :)
I have a well specced 435d, which starts more expensive than the equivalent 440i right off the bat, and I got 10k off just by walking into the dealer. *Maybe* because it's a diesel, but I've seen nearly new examples of 440i's for really good value. I have to say as well, I absolutely love taking the 435d down the country lanes! Yes it's wide, but honestly I bloody love it, and it doesn't feel heavy or big when compared to the lumbering Insignia I had before!
@@jackharvey9808 Realistically 38mpg from mostly town driving and short motorway trips, which is not where it shines. On a long journey, way above 40. I estimated I'd get around 600+ miles on a trip to London. Its definitely only worth it if you're doing lots of long drives. I swapped it for a 440i in the end for that reason.
@@g9icy thank you for coming back to me on this really appreciate it, yeah to be fair I’m thinking more 440i as my work is practically 4 miles away so I doubt it would even get warmed up by then. What is the 440I like to daily?
@@jackharvey9808 Honestly, the 435d felt faster, due to xDrive and the massive amount of torque on offer. I have remapped the 440i with Bootmod3 (but only do this if out of warranty!) and now it's absolutely brilliant to drive. The downside is that I am now forced to pay for premium fuel, but really, if you own a 440i, you should use premium anyway, so be prepared for that. If you work 4 miles away, don't bother with the diesel. I worked 20 miles away when I owned it, and didn't feel that was really far enough to justify that car. 440i sounds bloody brilliant, the B58 is an excellent engine. Only thing I'd say is you absolutely must get better tyres for it, otherwise you'll lose traction constantly (being RWD). I put Michellin Pilot Sport 4 S on the 440i and it's made a massive difference, and are absolutely required if you're considering a remap. If you're going to keep the 440i stock, you may be dissapointed if you've come from a 435d or other torquey diesel, but there is the official BMW performance kit you can get for £1600 which makes the car run around 370bhp and won't ruin the warranty. This, or BM3 is sadly a must otherwise a stock 440i is a let down. Another point on fuel costs is that the 435d is best run on premium diesel, which locally is now over £1.85/l, so you'd still be paying a lot for fuel. I get around 27mpg on average in the 440i, but on a long run I've got 450 miles out of it. I'd strongly suggest going for a 440i (with mods)!
Every option except for the awesome digital display, oh well. 😂 Btw, it's not a massive car either and I disagree entirely with your b road experiences, it performs best on these roads.
In America that is typically referred to as Carolina Blue or Tarheel Blue after the University of Carolina colds. Ford used it on their Mustangs and called it grabber blue. But it’s also used all over the place in America.
I did the 440i Gran Coupe and added M4 wheels, front bumper and kept the performance side skirts and rear bumper. Dinan springs gave me the correct stance. It is rare anyone does anything to the GC but Audi just released the 5 sportback which comes in the S and RS versions. Time for BMW to do what they should have with the GC M4.
The 440i even with MPPSK is no M4, they drive very differently and have very different remits. The 440i excels at being at being an all-rounder and the MPPSK makes it very potent and sound great. The M4 is gorgeous and much more aggressive but it is most at home on a track imo (it would be a crime to deny it any track time) - it’s wonderful but I prefer the 440i as a daily driver. Not a huge fan of the M Performance body add-ons because they look like, well, add-ons. Spec a 440i with Merino leather and a the merino leather dash though and it feels a huge step up over the standard car and, with MPPSK, some decent springs and rubber and you have a nice GT/sleeper that can still take the kids to school in peace and quiet. Oh and, unlike the M4, is less likely to attract thieves and boy racers... PS: only a crazy person paid list price for a 440i - dealer and manufacturer contributions on these were huge. M4 not so much.
Chris Oni Well, full disclosure - I now have the M4 and love it 😂 Doesn’t change the view I expressed above, simply that I was happy to trade in some of the broader talents of the 440i for the more focussed and uncompromised traits of the M4, primarily because I love how it looks and wanted the full M car experience at least once. I quickly adjusted to the new normal of the M4 (added noise, fuel consumption, firm ride, stiffer but sharper steering, noticeably quicker in-gear acceleration) and haven’t looked back. I did toy with the idea of the LSD for the 440i since I was never very confident accelerating it out of corners but could never justify the spend on top of the existing running costs of the car. Honestly, with the F80/F82 platform at the end of its life, there are some bargains to be had (used) so, if the benefits of an LSD are required, I would recommend seriously considering the M car given the overall package.

on a B road when I was testing it and driving a bit faster, the steering wheel feel was like I have no control over car, very strange - this was adaptive steering wheel and adaptive suspension. The car is not big at all..what this guy is talking about.
Funny how in Europe the 440 Coupe is a big car. In Yankville, it's dinky. I do agree that the steering feel from the electric rack is a bit dicey at high speed. The feel is not as fluid as my F10 was.
Agreed James, it is a big car, have any of your viewers tried different tyres, I believe that it has run flats on it and they don’t have feel great, so this could be the way forward, great value for money, so that’s why I bought a beemer again, and a blue car. Loads and loads of positive comments re the colour, and no an M is not for me, best Dad!!!!!!!
just traded my e46 330i in for a 440i . iloved my e46 which is why i kept from new for 20 years!! have to say i love this 4401. same much power and so composed.Much bigger car and still after 4 months getting used to it. But overall it is a wonderful car. And great value for money!
13:50 I've been driving a 640i GC for about 4 months now. When it was a bit rainy and a gently gave it more to overtake someone, it lost traction and started snaking on a straight road. And I was in comfort mode and in normal D mode then. It's fun, but it gave me slightly brown trousers.
Has it got RunFlats? If so, change to *BMW fit non RF. I've just ordered Mich Pilot Sport 4s for 340i, told it transforms the car. With the oversteer, it's partly to do with the tyres and partly the e-diff, MS-LSD better if you can afford.
Comparing a production 4 series to a M car is just nonsense. A fully loaded 440i mppsk is at 365hp sounds amazing and powerful enough to enjoy as a daily driver and a fast car. For the price of a base M4 you can get a fully loaded 400i and enjoy it as much... It is not the size of 4 series that is large it is the roads you drive that are super narrow. It is a perfect size very convenient car that you can easily seat normal size adults at the back. Turbo lag is pretty much non existent and if you have track handling package car is a gem.
Jay, you gotta drive an M140i. Same engine, 200kg+, lighter with more power. You will be pleasantly surprised. Welcome to try mine. Just fitted a full Remus ‘zorst today!
Steering wheel too padded?! The steering wheel on my M2 is easily the nicest feeling one I've ever used. BMW make some of the best steering wheels in the automotive industry.
Best car I've ever owned, thinking of installing some lowering springs, exhaust and remap, easy 400bhp and still great for cruising in comfort or eco modes
Your comment about the speed sign detection is interesting as my 2017 M440i GC is literally flawless here in Aus. at getting the signs correct. Over here we also don't have to contend with the narrow roads you have. I love mine - it's brilliant to drive, and terrifyingly quick at times.
I had a M4 Comp pack and a family member had a 440i at the same time. I have to say although the 440i is an amazing car the M4 was leagues ahead in every area
When I bought my 440 it was beside x2 m4 and c63, cars I haven’t driven past ten years. But the 440 was same price as the m4’s and c63 too. Overall it’s a decent car.
It’s also living with them. The m4 is more harsh, less forgiving etc etc. Also servicing the 440 has standard service intervals not M service intervals and the services will be cheaper. M4 is the better car for sure but the 440 would be considerably easier to live with. Same with all the ‘40 series, 140 etc.
My friend has an M4 and I was very impressed by how fast it is. But for me personally, m4 is a bit too much and this 440 m performance kit sounds like the best value for money. Today, at the beginning of 2021 you can find 440 for like 25k USD and m4 starts from 40. So do you really want to pay extra 15k for m4? I don't think so
I don't like modern BMWs because they grew up too big. Yes you are right, this car is in essence the successor of the E63 6-series and has nothing to do with the old 3-series coupes that in theory has substituted. I think you did an excellent review, I thought for a moment "ok, is his dad's car he's not going to say something bad about it" but I find you very much up to the point, you say things exactly as they are.
I disagree with the steering and large car feeling. I absolutely love my m performance 440I. It handles great and the exhaust crackles are insane. I can rip this car in any city or back country road...no problem.
230i manual with m sport plus pack is really really lovely on B roads. Maybe extended time in the car will help with lack of steering feel, I find that I get a lot of feel for what each of the four wheels are doing through the seat, and that now makes up for the lost feel through the rack compared to my previous older hydraulic rack cars.
Yes good car for circa £30k but won’t replace my Evora for the reason you stated - not special enough on a B-Road....but in a few years when I may consolidate to a single car it might be worth looking at because of its daily skills....would need some special bits on it though
@@brianwilson9214 lies. The engines were and are comparable to the 2jz motor. Can squeeze out a lot of horsepower without having to build the engine. It was shit like the INJECTORS (which were fixed), the water pump, the wastgate rattle, and high pressure fuel pump that was the issue and that has also since been remedied... in a way.
Well James if you want to know about my color it's really old and rare if you find one. I don't know what year they started using Grabber blue but I know it was in the 60s for sure and the Mach 1 used Grabber blue. Porsche isn't the first to use a lot of colors but my real question is who's the first one that started using that glossy Battleship Gray looking color? 🤔
Complaining about the fuel economy compared to an E46? This car has over 100 HP more and is quicker to 62kmh by 1.8 seconds. It’s an actually a giant more forward in terms of engine technology.
You don't feel impressed by the MPG of this 326hp car and you say that old e46 330i with 245hp has managed the same figures? 50% more pony power and same MPG figures is sure impressive to me!
Claimed figures are bogus you as a car expert should know that.. ;) Drive those cars back to back, same speeds, same roads, same conditions and youll see. My guess is that with all that power and high torque you use it much more liberally and zoom around much faster = worse MPG. I know I do when compared to my previous 120d.. ;) Considering the power house that is under the bonnet the car manages some seriously impressive MPG figures when you hold back a bit. But if somebody buys car with this price tag and with this engine he will not give a second thought about MPG. What bothers me is the small tank. 80 litres would be nice.
An M4 as a daily is a crime. Take the 440i M performance pack 2. Individual interior and exterior. Much cheaper in maintenance and the performance is almost close to the M4.
I think it’s an awesome car, I don’t think it unfair to refer to it as a budget m4, genuinely it is going to be my next car, my current daily driver is an E92 335i m sport so I suppose it’s a logic option! Great video
I just change my 440i (18 plate) for a 435d (68 plate), my second 435d and for a reason. Much more fun to drive and actually the engine sound has improved since my 16 plate 435d.
I immediately thought it was the blue used on newer Fords, specifically the Mustang. Not saying that in a bad way, I think it looks sharp with the black rims and trim! It’s a beautiful ride.
Had my 440i GC for over 2 years now and its a cracking all rounder. Practical (hatchback), comfortable (I have adaptive dampers), smooth when pootling around town, but plenty quick enough when you want it (BMW performance figures are conservative). Weakest aspect for me is steering feel which is not as good as my previous generation BMW that had hydraulic, rather than EPAS steering. Disagree on the size, same if not smaller than other cars in its class. I've also got 43mpg on a long run, although currently averaging 27mpg 😲 I've obviously been enjoying it a bit too much recently 😃
Dude u make no sense at all. First you say that it doesn't give you enough of a drive, then you complain when it does and you can't handle it. Then you say that modifying cars is for younger guys lol what ?
Frozen red/opel white m4 coated with carpro leather and so far no jean stains although ppl rarely wear jeans in it. Just saying for anyone thinking about this leather you should coat it and then more or less no worries. Just dont wear cheap heabily dyed jeans of course.
Not really fair review on the 440i when you’re basically saying it’s bad points is the fact it’s a 4 series and you’re use to smaller cars and not knowing how to drive a high horsepower rear wheel drive car?
I don´t get the problems that you have with the car...traction issues when its cold out...it´s a very torque engine with rear wheel drive so lift the gas and you won't have any issues, or buy BMW x-drive....they are everywhere nowadays. Big?, its not that big by today standars not even by class standards, Audi A4, Class C are bigger I think... Steering feel?, not many cars has it anymore so the question is more if you are driving the wrong car for your needs and not the other way around. Try a a Fiesta St, cheaper fun and small enough to place in your roads safely...but it does not have the badge, does it?!
Traction issues I expect but not as easily as in this, it's nuts. And size I don't care if others are too big too, this thing feels massive - and feel is a large part of it. Bad driving position makes the car too hard to place on the road
JayEmm on Cars I have the 340I and it doesn’t feel massive, even with heated seats all around. I upgraded to 285 Rears, no traction issues whatsoever but I would agree the steering is a bit numb in the back roads. The wheels on your dads car are a bit thin all around, they look great though.
I drive both a F32 440i xDrive (M-Performance packages and adaptive suspension) and a M4 Cabriolet regularly and they both have their merits. You can run into traction issues sometimes with the M4 if you suddenly drop the hammer down and the car kicks sideways, where I've rarely had that happen with the 440i (thanks to the all wheel drive system). On the track though, there's no comparison, but how often are you really driving at WOT??? They're different animals in similar looking suits. As a daily driver, I really do prefer the 440i and its mid-range punch is awesome.
On the 'My Dad Has a Blue Car' theme, I must advise that his was a Ford and the reference to the Ford colour makes sense, it was Ford Olympic Blue, on MkIII Cortina. Very reminiscent, but that shade was a little paler.
Ha I bought my m240i from Cobham also and it was a demonstrator then used by one of the sales team. Only ha 2k miles on and came with an m performance exhaust.
i like you. You do good Reviews. By the way for the Speed Limit, its interesting to hear that it works not that well. Here in Germany it works so fast and right. very funny the differents haha
I’ve just bought a 340i tourer as my daily (swapped against a similar era 330d tourer I might add so fuel was an understanding….its basically doing 30mpg driven progressively but also conservativly the 330d was doing 39 (but in all honestly probably faster and harder driven)…I plan to mod to stage 2, for the sake of a grand and a bit it’s knocking on the door of 500bhp!!!! Can’t wait, and hoping once it’s breathing better it may be just as good on fuel (when driven conservatively) Plan to take to Birds auto for an lsd is also on the build list 🙏 Anyway, as you say it’s all about the individual, as much as the extra £10k would buy me an f80 m3 (manual), it’s not available in a touring (so the dogs end up on the back seat) and it’s all round more showy when turning up at customers sites…..but yes it’s got a diff the even more powerful engine and works all the better on the b roads (where it matters most imo)…..oh the sacrifices I make for family 😂 As you say the size compromises big coupes in that respect, the 3 series is better in that respect 😉 Thanks for the vid , this is a rewatch 😃
Although the M140/M240 are nice but there bottom line entry cars and that’s how there equipped. I would not buy a BMW lower the a 3 series because that’s were your going to see better materials better designed as it’s the start of the mid level. My M5 has guards on all its coolers.
As a driver of a Mercedes C250 with an average of 28.8MPG the idea of anything above 30MPG with more power gives me a big smile And to be honest I don't agree with the spin out issue, my car has it and I love it, because you know it's going to do it so you expect it but you drive so often that you don't, and the fun of catching that spin as the systems kick in is just childish fun
I have a 440i Coupe in M Sport trim. It was a dealer pre reg that I purchased in March this year, with a few hundred miles on it, the saving over brand new was over 20k, which I was happy with. Its got some nice options, Tanzanite blue which is a lovely colour but terrible to keep clean, it also has the professional navigation pack, Harden Karmen sound system, 19 inch wheels, leather seats, adaptive damping etc. Performance is terrific, sadly like you say the steering is somewhat lacking, I do not push it in corners as there is little feel from the steering and am never certain if it will actually go round the corner, which is rather dissapointing. It has Good year run flats which could be part of the problem. Most of my recent cars have been FWD, I could corner with more confidence in my Saab 9-3 or 9-5. I do not drive it hard as im probably around your father's age, but expected better handling from a BMW. I must disagree with you on the seats, the drivers seat gets quite uncomfortable after around 80 miles, so much so I am having a trimmer make a removable padded insert. You are correct it is a big car, there are a few back roads I avoid.
@@seyemon7130 Well because I could buy it, I did not say it always gets driven slowly. Its a GT car not a sports car. I tried a similar car fitted with Michelin Pilot Sports, it transformed the handling and steering. I have a more focused car for the twisty stuff.
Been toying with the idea of getting a full fat M car but the 440i especially spec’d with the MPSK is really all the car anyone would need in most situations (and also a lot more than anyone would need at the same time) with makes the M4 less appealing in some aspects
beautiful spec, that blue paint with pale leather and black bits looks great - top tip: I have white leather in my Range Rover and I have a small pot of ink remover for leather which removes the denim marks.
Thank the '60s Ford Mustang for the color.... Grabber Blue is one of the most iconic Mustang paint colors of all time. First introduced in 1969, the color gained widespread popularity throughout the early '70s, particularly on that era's Boss 302 pony cars.
I know a colour from Ford that looks just like it but I believe Ford originally made that colour. It’s called grabber blue (my favourite colour for the mustang)

The engine is strong and pulls and pulls...feels more like 380hp. All and all I love my car! I'm 64 btw. Thanks for the great videos! You're a very knowledgeable guy.
It's not massive at all; completely manageable on UK roads. It's only 20mm wider than a 3 series, sounds like you're scared of wrecking it as it's your dad's motor lol
and the 3 series these days is as big as an old 5 series. cars are HUGE. and they are getting larger every year.
Leviathan Stick to your shitty Micra then
I drive my m4 on B roads daily without issues. If Range Rovers can happily drive on B roads then a 4 series will feel like a match box.

Geting the same economy on 2018 440i as on E46 330i is actualy very good achievemnt from 440i, as it has 100PS more and it is much faster.
Right
Heavier too surely?
I own one since April. Still not bored of the sound. M exhaust. I enjoy the acceleration, which is stunning from 2.5 to 5kRPM. On long trips (more than 500km), the M seats are almost as comfortable as my previous Mercedes. Still can’t believe it. In town, low speed and low RPM in full auto mode is not a problem and the engine remains quiet..
Do you still have it?
That blue looks like the mk3 Ford RS colour! I am sure that’s what you were thinking 😆 Nice car! Those white leather seats will be fine if they are cleaned with the wright product on a regular basis 👍
Need for Speed Passion so grabber blue
Nitrous blue.
That car is fire & that interior is hard! I have a 430i Msport, coral red interior white exterior!
I like the 440i a lot. The width problem is less of a concern here in the states where the engine is left to shine undimmed. If you are looking for a successor to the E90 or even E46 era BMW coupes, then that would be the M240i. But I like that BMW has a place in its lineup for two stellar coupes.
Yep in the USA the size is not a problem
100% 👍
You’re a liar. There is no way you can drive a 440 and an m4 and tell me the m4 doesn’t handle well, that’s ridiculous.
There is a night and day difference in the handling of an m car and a regular series bmw.
Literally night and day.
Does a lsd and wider wheels keep the back end in check better?
@@BAZZERBAZ The LSD makes a big difference. Can't comment on the wider wheels because I stayed with the stock wheels.
10:37 someone is having good time in mustang 😂😂😂😂😂
I have a well specced 435d, which starts more expensive than the equivalent 440i right off the bat, and I got 10k off just by walking into the dealer. *Maybe* because it's a diesel, but I've seen nearly new examples of 440i's for really good value. I have to say as well, I absolutely love taking the 435d down the country lanes! Yes it's wide, but honestly I bloody love it, and it doesn't feel heavy or big when compared to the lumbering Insignia I had before!
Hi sorry I know you posted a while ago but I am trying to weigh it up at the moment, what was the MPG like in the 435d?
I think it’s originally a VW Beetle blue that was adopted and made famous on the 993 - v.nice
Every option except for the awesome digital display, oh well. 😂 Btw, it's not a massive car either and I disagree entirely with your b road experiences, it performs best on these roads.
Sunroof
you can get it installed but yeah you'd have to pay.
In America that is typically referred to as Carolina Blue or Tarheel Blue after the University of Carolina colds. Ford used it on their Mustangs and called it grabber blue. But it’s also used all over the place in America.
I basically have the same car but in Signal Green and black leather. Love it. I don’t find it too big or wide at all.
Have you personally experienced any issues with the 440i, I’m looking to get one.
@@logic6737 No, great car.
Fantastic notes here. ps- Would you add LSD to the 440?

And how is it Holding up?
13:50 I've been driving a 640i GC for about 4 months now. When it was a bit rainy and a gently gave it more to overtake someone, it lost traction and started snaking on a straight road. And I was in comfort mode and in normal D mode then. It's fun, but it gave me slightly brown trousers.
That's why they are all xdrive now. Too much power these days

@@x3wildcardnow they are going for 25-40k depending on the mileage and year of course. but so are m4s for 40-45k
It still looks cleaner than my car after the last clean. 😂😂 I love this spec. 💙
If this guy thinks that the back kicks out too quickly in this 2,8 meter wheelbase BMW...he should probably stick to range rovers 😅

Brian Wilson so naive.
Mexico blue is a porsche color first used in 1974. The blue ford was using is called olympic blue.
absolutely right they are too big as are many modern cars. Good job he didn't get a 6 series that would have been worse !
E46 claimed economy = 30. Got 29.7
440i claimed economy = 41. Got 31.
Not impressive for 20 years of engine development
Claimed figures are bogus you as a car expert should know that.. ;) Drive those cars back to back, same speeds, same roads, same conditions and youll see. My guess is that with all that power and high torque you use it much more liberally and zoom around much faster = worse MPG. I know I do when compared to my previous 120d.. ;)
Considering the power house that is under the bonnet the car manages some seriously impressive MPG figures when you hold back a bit.
Great video
How do you find the 440i in comparison to your old 335i?
Still waiting for answer 😢
I just change my 440i (18 plate) for a 435d (68 plate), my second 435d and for a reason. Much more fun to drive and actually the engine sound has improved since my 16 plate 435d.
Basically they lost the pops and bangs from the petrol, but gained more torque with the diesel.

I want to eventually upgrade from my R to a b58. either 240-440i, havent decided which though. They are hard cars to find here in the states.
Not really fair review on the 440i when you’re basically saying it’s bad points is the fact it’s a 4 series and you’re use to smaller cars and not knowing how to drive a high horsepower rear wheel drive car?
😂 👍

Can’t wait, and hoping once it’s breathing better it may be just as good on fuel (when driven conservatively)
Plan to take to Birds auto for an lsd is also on the build list 🙏
Anyway, as you say it’s all about the individual, as much as the extra £10k would buy me an f80 m3 (manual), it’s not available in a touring (so the dogs end up on the back seat) and it’s all round more showy when turning up at customers sites…..but yes it’s got a diff the even more powerful engine and works all the better on the b roads (where it matters most imo)…..oh the sacrifices I make for family 😂
As you say the size compromises big coupes in that respect, the 3 series is better in that respect 😉
Thanks for the vid , this is a rewatch 😃

Why would you buy a 3L 330bhp car to drive slow and a rwd car to handle well 😂
@@seyemon7130 Well because I could buy it, I did not say it always gets driven slowly. Its a GT car not a sports car. I tried a similar car fitted with Michelin Pilot Sports, it transformed the handling and steering. I have a more focused car for the twisty stuff.
Great performance, cornering and all around better for daily use with much lower cost to maintain. I'll take the M440i, I love it.
Great review! I appreciate your honesty and opinion.
What year is it ?
B58 engine - watch out for stones going thru radiator. BMW have come out with a stone guard ... Check internet for wide spread issues
tbh i’ll take this over an m4 for daily
Looks like the blue on the bmw logo, look at it when it shows the interior
Been toying with the idea of getting a full fat M car but the 440i especially spec’d with the MPSK is really all the car anyone would need in most situations (and also a lot more than anyone would need at the same time) with makes the M4 less appealing in some aspects
Is it the Yas Marina Blue? A little bit too bright for me. Probably i would go for Estoril blue or Tanzanite blue.
Not Yas Marina
Volvo Polestar Racing Blue!
beautiful spec, that blue paint with pale leather and black bits looks great - top tip: I have white leather in my Range Rover and I have a small pot of ink remover for leather which removes the denim marks.
Bugatti blue? Looks like the eb110 kind of blue. Nice
It's a Porsche colour either Riviera blue or Mexico blue. Both look very very similar with the latter being slightly brighter.
BMW say it's Mexico
@@JayEmmOnCars Then it probably is I've a friend with a Mexico blue 918 spyder and a Riveria blue Audi R8 very hard to distinguish the colours.
Mexico Blue 918? Is he single?
@@JayEmmOnCars Happily married for 10 years. The car's on my channel if you want a look before it was collected.
@@JayEmmOnCars I tweeted you some pictures of the car.
Thank the '60s Ford Mustang for the color....
Grabber Blue is one of the most iconic Mustang paint colors of all time. First introduced in 1969, the color gained widespread popularity throughout the early '70s, particularly on that era's Boss 302 pony cars.
I believe It's called Grabber Blue from Ford. Primarily used on special vehicles like the Ford GT, GT 350, Focus RS.
I know a colour from Ford that looks just like it but I believe Ford originally made that colour. It’s called grabber blue (my favourite colour for the mustang)
