I’m truly enjoying your videos. No drama. I like the way you share what’s going on with the weather, the sail, and of course your boat. Thanks for sharing.

Can you tell us a bit about your boat…certainly is shipshape. I went to your about page but no mention of the yacht design or length. Really enjoy the videos

Thanks for the feedback Charles and very pleased you’re enjoying the videos so far.
I’ve just updated the “about section” to include a little more information and I’ll release a full boat tour video in the near future and talk through Safar’s history etc. Best Wishes, Morgan

You can test those tiller pilots by putting 12 volts across the connector. You don't have to worry about polarity cuz each way will drive the unit in the opposite direction.

Thanks John! That’s exactly the test that I preformed after speaking with Raymarine. I hadn’t realised you could just wire it directly previously to that, but it’s a handy trick I’ll remember for the future.

Haha I have to do 4 months work in 2 months while I’m away though 😉 I did consider giving you hand this week! With the weather being so poor I have been struggling to keep myself busy! Which is why this week’s episode is perhaps a little too informative 😅
Great content on the way for next week though 🙌

    Great content! Thank you.
Do you use the same track as your main for the trysail or a separate track? How far from the boats centerline are your staysail sheet tracks. Do you ever have a problem with backwinding the main. Thanks again you really are doing a great job!

    • @sailingsafar
      @sailingsafar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi James, unfortunately on Safar’s mast I don’t have a separate track, but I can just about get the Tri sail sliders all pushed into the main track without needing to remove any of my mainsail
I found my older larger staysail would back wind the main when pointing high, but with my new small SS, I haven’t experienced that yet. I’d say the tracks were just less than 0.5m from the centre line, so she can be sheeted in very hard.

For solo sailing, I am convinced a fourth reef will do the job much easier than a dedicated trisail in stormy condition. Of course, the sail area of the fourth reef being equivalent to an appropriate trisail.

I completely agree, If the tri-sail is hoisted on a separate track then its not to hard rig it well before you need it.
But I hate the idea of trying to feed all the slides into the mainsail track when conditions are worsening, so a deep fourth reef would be better in my eyes too. Skip Novak also recommends them

Great work and seamanship. Can you share the specs on your tiller pilot. Thanks

Thanks Alves! It’s a Raymarine EV100 system fitted on Safar, which consists of the Tiller drive, EV100 (which is essentially a 9 axis compass). And an ACU control unit (which is the brains of system)
It’s all plug and play equipment so I was a very easy installation

It’s those little seamanship things that I take pleasure in seeing to! I love seeing a boat that’s been lovingly squared away a long passage.

Loving the content ..shes a great looking vessel and one you can be rightly proud of. Looking forward to see where you are planning to sail and if there's a longer ocean passage in the offing. All the very best marra and really appreciate you taking the time to vid and edit all of it.

Really appreciate your comments and glad you’re enjoying the videos so far! I definitely have a very big soft spot for this boat!
I just dropped anchor last night in South Portugal after an autumn Biscay crossing and 9 day passage, so hopefully ep4 will be on its way just as soon as I’ve had chance to catch up on some sleep 😅
