Very nice job… the only thing I’ll recommend is have a stainless bushing inserted with tef-gel on the new chainplate, in order to avoid the hole getting oval
Great vid, I’m jealous watching this on my break at work wishing I could be out rigging my own boat, until that day I’ll continue to live vicariously through your vids! All the best from Canada
Thanks, would like to be doing more but with all the other things in life, working ect. I don't want to release a video until I feel there is good content. a lot of sailing channels pumping out 100s of video of doing things like going to the supermarket. Should be sailing soon and if I can get away I have some long distance voyages planned.
So glad your back.....And another job organised and completed..👍 Gosh, that tropical sun is hard on boats, and red paints...another job in the future...never ending...Good work, Cheers.👍
That's a great bit of work. A storm sail is a very useful thing to have, and as you say the extra stay will be a mast saver should the forestay fail. I am in cold, damp NE Scotland. On the North sea coast on a week of constant haar. I wish I was on a sailing yacht in Fiji...
@@captainscarlegs3621 It is cool and wet a lot but mostly recreational sailors in coastal waters don't go out in gales. Certainly I don't. There is no need as usually there aren't many days with gales, and few people sail over winter. The season for sailing is April to late September for most. Fiji sounds like an amazing place. I need to get there soon.
Mate only used a S jib once off the Waiarapa coast NZ & i wished it was SMALLER , Nice Job . You will probably find the genoa will come around OK as the inner stay is well back , Just let the wind back it a little before releasing the sheet ... Fair winds .
Yes I did but I have running backstays and a runner to support the inner forestay. It's easier to furl the headsail than to remove and put back the inner fore stay. The inner forestay needs to be in place before tighting the running backstays.
Got the hydraulic ram from them today . Yeepee. Put some extra paint on it just now. Will get it in later in the week. Only a valve that they lost a part from. A washer. They said they will make one but will not be able to get it working until that is done.
I really like your boat, it ticks off almost all the boxes I would consider for a boat. Did you ever consider a solent style rig on the forestay, both with roller furling, so as to fly two genoas port and strbrd with spinnaker poles outboard.
Thanks. Good to know a fellow Radford owner. What one do you have? The mast fitting is lightweight and the inner fore stay is 8mm and about 9-5m long. I didn't weigh it but guess around 6kg or so.
In Nelson, NZ, the bartender of an oyster bar, told me about a Nelson couple who have travelled several times around the world and they now live half of the year in Nelson, and the other half in Menorca, Spain.Maybe they brought it, who knows, hehehe @@captainscarlegs3621
Thanks for the update, I was wondering what you had been up to over the last 12 months. Did you consider a Highfield lever for the inner for stay? It could've been removed and pulled back against the shrouds out of the way when not in use. I was in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart race and trust me, your storm Gib is more than enough should you face similar conditions like we had in that race. I look forward to the episode on the keel, it will be a big one! Cheers from Newcastle Australia.
I would prefer to have the stay fixed in place. The running backstays are now changed and am not sure if tentioning them with the inner fore stay out would be a good thing. I have released a couple of videos during that time, One has a segment on the keel, you may have not been alerted by youtube. IBet that was a race to remember the 1998 Sydney to Hobart and a good story.
The top was welded to the deck but I would have had rip out all the interior lining to weld it to the frame. No I have not used it with the storm jib. Maybe at the end of the year. Planning to go to new Zealand
I have x2 100 amp AGM - fitted a “smart” batt regulator (Balmar) Don’t think standard car truck regs are good enough in marine conditions.I now see 14.7 going in Monitors Alt and Bat temp etc.etc😊used existing 100 amp alt - did need old reg removed.
Wow, where is the LOVE button! This boat is full of great ideas. Ours is a Van de Stadt 34 built in the Nederland now in Vancouver BC Canada Steel with hard chine ( www.youtube.com/@sailinglaysan4453 ) I have been thinking about a storm stay, I love how you did yours. Also the "basket/fence" on the boom to catch the main sail. After looking at you three swept-aft spreaders and with diamond stays and reverse top spreaders, I like my single pair. LOL This thing is bullet proof, I am going to have to binge watch your channel!
Hi there. You have a good designed boat. Van DER stadt 34. I built a steel Van der stadt vita 30 . Almost identical to the 34. Very good boat. Loved it . Lived onboard for about 8 years. The 34 is a solid boat that sails well and has a good interior design. I'm sure it will serve you well.
Graham Radford... an Australian Gem.
So many amazing memories of this boat. I probably wrapped some of that tape around the spreader ends 🤣
Good to read comments from people that have sailed on Haphazard and they were well taped. No chance of coming off.
Excellent job! Greetings from Spain.
Very nice job… the only thing I’ll recommend is have a stainless bushing inserted with tef-gel on the new chainplate, in order to avoid the hole getting oval
Thanks that a good improvement
Captain, You have a great job! I am happy to see you again.

Thanks. I hope you get your boat soon.
Great video! Thanks for all your hard work. Such a great boat!
Thanks for your kind words
Your videos are really good. It is a pity you do not upload videos more often 🤣

Great video! I am also installing an inner fore stay on my 44cc
Great explanation bro.

Yes the red paint is fading. red is known to fade quicker. Yes boats need constant attention and plenty of $$
Thank GOD I have a Nor'Sea 27 with innerforestay!!!!
Beautiful boat , built like a tank ! . Seems like a very very long mast . ? Love your videos, you have balls.
Thanks brother. I'm very happy with the boat. It was a good find.

Sounds like a cold place even in summer. Need a storm jib sailing in your area. Hot all year here.

I just found your channel! Great video!!
nice done ;)

Thanks for your comment. Yes it will when it really blows like what you get in NZ.
That storm sail is about the size of my main
Did you consider making the inner forestay removable with a Highfield lever? It would save Furling the headsail every time you tack.
Yes I did but I have running backstays and a runner to support the inner forestay. It's easier to furl the headsail than to remove and put back the inner fore stay. The inner forestay needs to be in place before tighting the running backstays.
Can you give us an update on the keel. Thanks great vid.

Thanks it is a good design. I think the solent is more suited to masthead rig. Haphazard is 3/4 rig and forstay needs tention from running backstay
Thanks captain , what a mission, more videos please. how much weight do you think you've added? incredible boat, fellow Radford owner.
Thanks. Good to know a fellow Radford owner. What one do you have? The mast fitting is lightweight and the inner fore stay is 8mm and about 9-5m long. I didn't weigh it but guess around 6kg or so.
Very nice work, Hood Storm sail! Done in San Javier, Spain, my region! 🥰 Where did you get it? You are in the Antipodes!
The sail has come along way. I got it in Sydney Australia

Glad to see you get another vid out. Will you sail this as a cutter rig now or is the intent just to have a storm jib closer to the mast?
Thanks. At the moment it's just for the storm jib. Could get a staysail for it one day. Could be an option rather than using a half furled headsail
10:46 why not Stainless ?
Alloy boat. All chainplates are alloy and it will be welded to the deck.
Why not just weld the new chain plate on? Also, have you had a chance to use it? Any mast pumping?

@@captainscarlegs3621 fair winds and all that, mate
What is the boat model?
What’s going on with the hydraulic Keel?
It's being repaired. The is a segment on it in my last vid.
Hey mate, the sail to fiji how much would that sail boat cost?
You have to start looking on yachthub or yacht world sites. That way you get an idea on what is available.
