talking about Sirens... I don't know if someone mentioned this (probably someone did)... please check out the song SIRENS.. Epica ft. Charlotte wessels and Myrkur.... absolutely mesmerizing.... glad you're back
This is such a rich performance at so many levels. Like you I was drawn to it. There are so many musical and vocal qualities that make the song truly epic. I am certainly vibing with you on this entire concert.
Interesting take on this one! I really liked that you focused on the lyrics and the way Simone and Mark interpret it with their vocal choices :) thanks a lot
16:06 I really like it when Simone gives her voice this theatrical dramatic tone, she doesn't do it often, but always effectively. At the last concert with the orchestra in a wonderful interpretation of the classic "The ghost in me" her laughter at the end of the song also sounded atmospheric and cool 😁 And yes, the scene with the burning piano was recorded on the second take. But it is impressive how well they worked on the light, pyrotechnics, smoke and other effects - very cool and professional. As for the song itself, fans have long been tired of calling it a prog symphonic metal masterpiece, like the first part of the trilogy, but that's true
Wow thank you! You unpacked so much that I hadn't thought about with this song. Not least how you analyze the lyrics - is that vocational? You made it seem effortless 😄
Haha so my day job is singing and performing operas in languages other than English, so I do a lot of interpreting the poetic meaning of text. It’s one of my favorite thing about symphonic metal, as the thought behind the lyrics and poetry is so deep
FYI! Kingdom of Heaven - III KOH is mostly written by Mark (guitar, growl/scream, lyricist & composer) and Isaac (lead guitar, clean/growl, part time lyricist & composer). Mark had been stock with this piece for a very long time. Both Mark & Isaac lost their grand-mother around the same time. Isaac came to Mark and said he had some ideas how the piece could progress, and would Mark be interested in hearing his ideas. Shortly after, they had to reduce a bit the length of this masterpiece. The result, you just heard.
Hoping for some thoughts from you of "Epica - Ghost in me" from their Live symphonic synergy. Love that song. Song nr7 Arcana is my favorite, feals sooo dark. What a performance!😁
That song Ghost in me was done in collab together with a theme park in the Netherlands called De Efteling in dutch to promote a refreshed 'Dance Macabre' at the theme park. A week before the opening at the park a video that was filmed there on the spot will be released. Epica produced/ arranged the song based on that old melody by Camille Saint Saëns . So i guess that this song is not a 'new' Epica song as such but was a nice addition to play at the Symphonic Synergy. I doubt it will be featured on Epica's new album but it is definitely a great peformance by the band during the live show.
Calling Simone a siren made me think of my other favourite red haired metal siren: Zora Cock from Blackbriar. For example Weakness and Lust, or The séance, or You're haunting me
@@CharlieCalottaReacts Oh cool! I don't know them yet, it'll be my first time listening to them. I was mostly persuaded to go because of the support bands (Blackbriar, Frozen Crown and Ad Infinitum)
Epica is just epic. They are an unique band in symphonic metal. Must to see in live, their energy, funny moments and presentation is awesome.

Yooo it’s been a while since I’ve listened to Blackbriar! Nice call!
@@CharlieCalottaReacts :). It's one of my favourite bands. Luckily I'll see them soon again as a support act of Kamelot
KAMELOTTTT one band I discovered when I was 12 or 13 exploring iTunes. Changed my life.
