Go on EBAY RIGHT NOW. type in PCG MTG or PCG magic and how many are for sale and sold? Then type bgs and psa mtg or Magic. I get they are starting out. But the uphill battle is insanely real.
I think the point of Rudy investing is to change that. If people had the perspective that the only TCGs out there is Magic and Pokemon… and there is no point trying to make something new… that’s all we would ever have.
I’m hoping for the best. Not gonna be easy.
The more competition the better for us. Hope PCG does well it would be good to keep competition up and prices down
I am thinking that coming in to make an opinionated video on something, but not knowing the name of the thing you are discussing, does not give much weight to your argument.

What I can say is... I wouldn't be surprised if Derek Jeter knows ANYTHING about the business, and is more of the investor.
Rudy however, is a massive consumer in this market... he knows whats wrong with it, he knows what the industry lacks... and he's smart enough to cater to what the consumer wants.
Maybe it will still flop, but if anyone can turn that business into something... its Rudy.

Saying his grading company isnt going to survive… when you were literally backing the 30th anniversary $1000 packs… you tried to hype that stuff up but you forgot what the real world is like.

I think there is reasonable chance for success. PCG has merits for FaB grading which is exceptionally gradeable as tcg and core where Rudy is operating in.

Rudy so rich he can take this risk. Most likely he bought a distressed asset and avoided all the startup costs. This is essentially a Metazoo/FAB grading company. Their mtg pops are rather dismal, mostly commons and modern. It's ironic Rudy discouraged grading on Modern Cards. I expect that will change. Some viewers indicated he scrubbed those videos that disparaged modern card/low card value grading. Don't forget he has millions in MTG cards he can grade. This is an example of vertical integration. As far as Rudy saying he didn't make money on MTG last several years is BS. Most likely an accounting smoke and mirrors statement, but overall he's doing really good. He has his Timmie's and network to build this platform.
Yeah and he’s got some patreons with some serious cash,I mean the other day he did a box opening for a patreon and I think it was a couple boxes and they were like a couple grand each or something absolutely absurd,and that’s a every couple days thing and theirs a lot going on ppl on TH-cam don’t see, Rudy’s got long bread and he’s very well connected,Rudy will be alright and I imagine his investment will pay off,but for real I couldn’t care less,I hope he succeeds but whatever 🤷♂️

In all seriousness, I'm in the peanut gallery for this one as I'm not big on collecting graded cards. Now if I were to sell some of my holdings, then maybe that tune would change as grading tends to make the cards more liquid. But until then, I'm going to pay attention to it but not lose any sleep over it.

The value is in the grading process and the grading itself. If they do a great job they will earn the business and if they grade strong they will cross too.

I’m not sure how he could make this video talking about this subject without it. He has a point like 50 grading companies failed. I watch Rudy videos all the time so I’m not a hater. What’s he supposed to call the video RANDOM NO NAME TH-camR BUYS RANDOM NO NAME GRADE CARDING BUSINESS AND IT WILL FAIL. No one would know wtf he’s even talking about.
That's Rudy's strategy, actually. Every time other TH-camrs dump on Rudy in their videos, Rudy's views and subs go up!
You do understand that your comment is basically: Lorcana/onepiece/sorcery can not succeed because there is allredy MTG, Yogio, Pokemon. A new grading company is good for the market. CGC is going to die from screwing people. PSA starts to grade anything and is constantly being blamed for being bad quality. BGS is ok I guess. You also now have AI grading services etc. As long as PCG does good quality service then it is good for the market and collectors. Also you say Beckett is what people want? I disagree people want PSA because of the name.
Not doing sports cards is a defining factor, might be a good move if the market is already saturated, and easier for doing a good job, which ultimately is what will give a good reputation or not to the brand. Who knows

I personally believe that having an actual standard for grading will go far. I have seen many cards graded with PSA and BGS that came back as 9-10 and did not deserve that rating, and likewise gotten lower for no clear indication. I have seen slabs cracked and resubmitted to return with a different grade from the opposite or the same service that graded them before. sadly there seems to be no true quality standard and it is based on opinion rather than a defined standard. I intend to waste a bit of money cracking slabs to grade with PCG and cracking PCG slabs to send to both Beckett and PSA. I feel doing this will give me a better understanding of the standards each company holds their service to and would allow me to judge all three services fairly. As i know that as of recently PSA and Beckett have dropped their standards I am hopeful for PCG being that company that comes forward and blows my mind rather than letting us all down. Only time will tell.

It's like you said: saturation. I like Rudy's idea of supporting the LGS and giving them a large focus in the cycle of grading their/customers' cards...but why try the pizza just for something different? Wish it had happened 10 years ago.

i would like you to make a honest review video of a(or a bunch of) graded cards from PCG. Where you take into account the price and fees from psa and beckett vs PCG. how much do you save if you are to slab a set of power, ect...
This guy obviously didn't do his obviously didn't do does PCG premium card grading. Which is what the companys initials mean. Was the card grading company that both card Kingdom and TCGplayer used to grade their expensive cards. So I guess that's what they say is true TH-cam is mainly a platform for the Timmys the people that don't do their research and hate on other people because their channel is doing better. It feels like he bought this as a meme. Rudy is an entertainer and people need to ALWAYS remember this when he gives advice. He's not a financial guy giving financial advice.
You could say that about any new company in history that started off when there were other larger companies. Blockbuster and Netflix, Amazon and Wal-Mart, Circuit city and Best Buy. I could go on and on, careful you don’t hate too much on those who are trying to succeed when you yourself aren’t.
That's not the same thing though. You could buy from Blockbuster or Walmart or whoever but you're not stuck to them. It's more like buying every beta version of a new movie 40 years ago and then VHS ends up winning the format war.

I am purely a collector and i buy mainly MTG, Pokemon, One piece and yugioh cards. And I hope to one day get most of my cards graded. Although my top choice is ARS, that won't be happening until they expand to other countries, However, the one company i certainly would not consider is PCG.

No one cares about Jeter is not playing??? Not influencer at all? I get Jeter for TCG world wouldnt do much. But overall clout Jeter wins. Point is Rudys grading emporium is a business to diverse from other investments and his FAB and other TCG relationships. Seen this done before. What happens is the values do not hold premiums of other BIG companies or grades are always 10s and saturated.
It's a bad sign when it's difficult to remember an acronym that sounds similar to half a dozen other card grading companies! Their metallic laser-etched labels look cool, but the slab aesthetics are only part of what makes a graded card valuable. I'm tempted to send them some low-end stuff for grading, but I'm otherwise planning to stick with BGS.
Bingo. The market is saturated. Its not rudys grading r us, its entire market. The operational costs are high and you need large submissions from dealers, which won't happen long term.
I agree it’s a bad investment and the magic market is looking ugly in general for dealers vendors stores etc.
That said I think it will be great if it brings new collectors into the world of graded magic cards. I wish our hobby had those type of collectors like Pokémon and sports who just love the cards and collecting their favorite ones in the best grade they can afford

@@vintagemagic I think you nailed it with your analysis. Market is way too packed already. No one cares how nice your slabs are or how "consistent" your grading is. It all comes down to value added. How much more can I sell a PSA 10 for compared to a NM raw card?
If I start seeing PCG cards sell for a significant premium I might change my mind. But it will take several years for me to change my opinion.
All new grading companies should operate outside of the US/Canada if they want to find their place in the market.
Like in comics grading there are companies like Halo which operates in Australia, and ECG (European Grading Service) which operates in Europe. They're not as big as say CGC and CBCS (which are the big 2 in comics grading) and they won't ever catch them, BUT they've found a stable niche market. If you live in Australia it would cost you at least 4 times more to send a book all the way to the US to be graded by CGC. So a lot of Australian collectors settle for Halo. That's the catch. It's less reputable sure, but the price difference is just too much to pass up on.
