    I have suffered from chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis all my life and have literally tried EVERY steroid, cream, medication, treatment, etc. As well as having family history (from both parents) of obesity, allergies, cancer, diabetes and all that fun stuff .
    The only thing I haven't tried was a plant based diet, I have been reluctant to try it for the last few years. After thanksgiving my inflammation got really terrible so I went cold turkey plant based.
    I was looking for some recipes and ideas on a successful way to maintain this lifestyle and stumbled on this video a few days ago! Just want ed to say thank you so much for all your videos, I've binged watched so many of them and feel this is now something I can do! And I have to say, its been shy of a week since cutting all dairy and animal products out and I already feel so much better! Thank you both for your impact!!

      Hi there! I also have psoriasis and has been suffering since school days. Becoming a vegan has really improved my condition. Glad to know that someone is sailing in the same boat as me. I hope this diet also helps me shed pounds as I am a bit over weight and also have a thyroid issue.

    I've had to explain so much to my mom and grandma because they were nurses and question everything I do diet wise 🙄 I've gone back and forth but always go back to plant based and they always say "eggs are the only complete protein" and "eat red meat for iron" I cant really get mad because I used to think the same way and when you learn one way and not another it's difficult to understand the other way. I love that you two are so relaxed about everything because it helps people to learn instead of mock.

    So glad I found you! I have been moving toward plant based eating since the beginning of the year, just trying to get as much information and ideas as possible! I have acid reflux and it has helped so much, I feel so much better plus I watched What the health recently and I know plant based is better for me and the animals, its a win win!! Im almost 50 and just had routine bloodwork done and my doc was really happy with my numbers. My tummy feels better, my skin looks great and I just feel better. There are a few things that still need work but I feel that changing the way I eat has made the biggest difference so Im going to stay with it.

    Wonderful video. Always so positive and encouraging. Anyone who is getting enough calories to sustain healthy weight (or for children, healthy weight gain) are getting enough protein. I always like to remind folks that as a plant-based vegan, I get my protein from the same places as the largest, strongest plant-based animals (horses, cows, gorillas and elephants). It's also helpful to point out that the perfect food for growing babies is human breast milk, and that contains less than 10% of it's calories from protein. And that's for a person who is growing a brain and everything else! Amazing. :-)

      The only problem is you don't have the same digestive system as cows or any herbivore out there who indeed have a rumen, a whole different package of bacteria, completely different microbiome as we do. We do not digest starches from the ground, we do not regurgitate plant solids from the rumen as cows do (They regurgitate 20 times the same chunk of plants from the rumen) we have just a small stomach where animal protein is very well diluted by hydrochloric acid.

    • @toavm
      @toavm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Christine Link By the way breast milk is 70% saturated fat, palmitic acid, caprylic acid to boost our immune system, and cellular array, wow saturated fats were intended by mother nature to protect us.

      Did your vegan handlers tell you that a gorilla eats 40 pounds of plant matter a day and spends almost 80 percent of its time FUCKING CHEWING. SO IT CAN FUCKING DIGEST THOSE FUCKING PLANTS. You are not a ruminant animal. Veganism WILL not can WILL KILL YOU.

    I just talked to my mother in law how I watched " what the health" on Netflix and I tried explaining it to her a bit. She told me of course we need meat for protein it has all the vitamins that we need. I dont believe anything that they say on tv that's fake. I was so mad because I was trying to explain to her and she didn't believe anything I was saying. So in my head I was like whatever am done talking to you. So close minded people ...

    I've been so confused and yo-yo dieting. I have to lose a significant amount of weight because my blood work showed high glucose. But which diet to eat.. Keto or whole food plant based? Because I need to lose so much weight I've been terrified to eat carbs such as brown rice, beans, potatoes and bananas! But looking at how slim and healthy looking vegans look, I might just lose weight eating a vegan diet.

      Process soy is not really all that bad. Actually if it weren't for modifying the soy bean we wouldn't have no where near the soy we need and it also increases the digestible protein. Very cool science actually!

    Awesome video! Do different types of beans/lentils have different nutrients that we need, or can you eat the same types all the time and still get what you need? I find myself always gravitating towards black beans and kidney beans and brown lentils. I don't usually eat any other types.

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      James Jarmin great question! They all vary to some extent, but I believe black beans are overall the most nutritious of the beans! You could try to add in some variety with grains (try our red lentil dal) or a quinoa dish!, but ultimately do what tastes good and works for you!

    What protein - carb - fat ratio percentage would you recommend? I’ve been on calculator websites and they all say extreme protein (like 110g even though I’m only 47kg) for sedentary lifestyle.. it’s crazy!

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We don’t worry too much about ratios nowadays, but used to follow 80/10/10. Now that we are calorie conscious and aware of macro and micronutrient contents of plants foods, we just enjoy mostly fruits and veggies, grains, beans, and legumes, and lower amounts of nuts, seeds, and avocados! Carbs are definitely central to our diet! We are probably still around 80% carbs and maybe just a bit more fat!

      Too much protein will create inflammation and overwork your kidneys, especially if it’s animal based!

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tonjia Murray thanks a bunch! We just eat when we’re hungry! Always make sure you’re armed with healthy foods so you don’t allow your blood sugar to drop. You can try to incorporate more filling foods like whole grains, beans, and legumes! I also bring fruit with me everywhere! Hope this helps!

    I eat a plantbased diet but would like to gain weight. Is that even possible?

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely! Dusty and I have each been working on our gains, and even since this video we have put on about 5-7lbs each! Incorporating lots of calorie and nutrient dense foods like grains, beans, and legumes will be super important! We are going to share a favorite slow cooker stew soon...we make lots of big one pot meals that are so delicious and great for gaining healthy weight!!

      EatMoveRest sounds great :) can you please make a video about how to gain weight. In my country it’s not popular to be skinny and I’m really underweight 😞

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Michelle Pedersen we will definitely add this to our list! Thanks for the recommendation! What’s popular isn’t always right, and what’s right isn’t always popular, so more importantly, it’s about how you feel, not always how you look! 👌😊

    But what about all the sugar that comes along with the bananas?

    • @EatMoveRest
      @EatMoveRest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t worry about eating too much fruit! The sugar in fruit is far different from the sugar in refined carbs like baked goods and sweets. Fruit contains powerful phytonutrients and FIBER, which most American are deficient in! Glucose is the body’s preferred fuel source. We are fueled by fruit and there is a common misconception that “fruit will make you fat” or that “carbs are the enemy,” but it’s definitely Not the case!

    What's sad is I've mentioned to a few vegan bodybuilders & physique competitors that there's no such thing as an "incomplete protein", and we don't have to combine foods (and that it's a myth). They don't seem to take it very well. They've believed the myth for so long that they can't let go.

      EatMoveRest some of them even have public spekaing engagements where they tell people that if they go vegan, make sure to combine foods. I think that makes veganism and plant based eating seem unnecessarily difficult and may scare people away.
