@@jerryplantbasedmonster2129 Stick to whole plant foods like: grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes and fewest calories coming from nuts & seeds, but don't be afraid of some processed stuff here and there lol.
Roughly %70-%80 of calories from carbs and %10-%20 from protein and fats each, depending on how you feel. Avocado's are a great source of healthy fats!
Omega 3's and b12 are important so getting those daily will help you a lot in the long run! Iodine is important too, a great source being nori, a seaweed.

I pay no attention to doctors who advocate against a vegan or vegetarian diet as they are unlikely to have any more knowledge or authority over diet than the common man. Doctors over the age of 40 likely studied medicine well before the absolute benefits of a vegetarian diet were touted.

As a primary care physician, I have recommended a plant based diet to several patients. The patients who have tried it has had significant improvement in the control of diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, acne etc and on several occasions were able come down on all or most of the medications for their chronic diseases but on several occasions they leave negative comments on the physician review sections complaining that I was trying to make them vegan. It’s very frustrating for me to decipher who would benefit from this message and who would rather make no changes in their diet and lifestyle and take a medication instead.

Humans can't digest plants properly, and that's why a lot of vegans feel bloated all day. Cows have rumens, where bacteria lives and converts cellulose to glucose. Then other bacteria ferments the glucose and converts it to fatty acids that get absorbed in the bloodstream. Humans have different digestive systems and cannot digest cellulose, which covers every plant cell. Certain enzymes can brake part of the cell so that some nutrients are absorbed, but they are not a lot. Also plants have antinutrients that literally bind to minerals etc. and prevent you from absorbing them. I suggest you to watch 'vegans the epitome of malnourishment' to see what happens to your body after a few years, I hope you change your mind before it's too late.

Steven Tucker me, too. I had a heart scan done at Virtual Imaging Atlanta. You could see the calcified plaque in my arteries. A year later, two lesions are gone. The cyst on my liver is gone. My plaque accumulation has slowed down. And this was with little to no information on how to eat.
Now I have more information so I can’t wait to see the results of my next scan! I was fortunate to meet Dr. Dean Ornish and I got to attend one of his certification classes for health professionals. Afterwards I went plant based and for four months: NO CHEST PAINS! But then I went on my first cruise and fell off the wagon; eating lots of meat. Days later I ended up in the ER feeling like I was going to die. I was admitted to the hospital because they couldn’t get my BP down to a safe level.
When I was released, I went back to a plant based diet: no more chest pains. I’m glad I had that setback. It made things VERY clear: no more games!
Whenever I eat something I shouldn’t, my body tells me and I feel awful. I love being pain free; it motivates me to eat plant based as much as possible.

My wife and I have been Vegan for three years. We had both been vegetarians for more than 20 years (we had only been married for 5 years at that stage) and we thought that ditching meat was all we needed to do. Dairy was victimless so all was okay...
We actually watched the Game Changers Documentary and decided that it was time to go Vegan. Family members said we were being selfish and difficult but our ethics and compassion for life as a whole made us push back and say that we would go back no matter what the cost.
Like so many of the testimonials here, I also lost problematic weight (with very little effort), lost the brain fog, gained energy and now I can go so much further in both my workload and physical activity than I could before ditching the dairy. Now my family and some of our friends through seeing the change in our lives are entertaining the possibility of reducing animal products. It is all worth it.
My mantra now: Love God, be compassionate, serve the community, seek Truth, speak up for those without a voice and be willing to go against the flow by embracing life.
    Peace and props to all.

      Hi there,
I, personally, would recommend to opt for a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (consuming raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please take some steamed carrots, plant them and see if they will grow; if not, it is because they are 'dead' plant food that cannot benefit one's 'living' cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains as it is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. I do not even see a reason to use pharmaceutical supplements e.g Vitamin D is obtainable from organic chestnut mushrooms (UV exposed) and sun-dried mushrooms with the exception of the body's ability to make it (and store it for future use) when exposed to the sun; Iron from organic beets; Zinc from organic cashew nuts; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas; Protein and Omega 3 Fatty Acids (beneficial for the brain) from organic walnuts and pecans (looks like the brain and targets it).
Animal protein is the cause of nearly all diseases, from gathered information e.g mad cow disease and tuberculosis, that are on the rise; and fish like wild salmon and tuna ought to be avoided due to radiation in the seas (mercury affecting tuna too). Farmed fish too should be avoided as they may lack nutrients e.g farmed salmon may lack Omega 3 Fatty Acids obtained from algae by wild salmon in the seas.
Please avoid factory produced meat alternatives whose chief ingredient can be 'soy' and may contain preservatives as well as additives (e.g Vinegar, a corrosive agent). Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency (e.g white bread, white rice and white sugar) are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic stuff, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.
      Best wishes

      Hi there,
I am sorry to hear that. I do not even see a reason to use pharmaceutical supplements e.g Vitamin D is obtainable from organic chestnut mushrooms (UV exposed) and sun-dried mushrooms with the exception of the body's ability to make it (and store it for future use) when exposed to the sun; Iron from organic beets; Zinc from organic cashew nuts; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas; Omega 3 Fatty Acids (beneficial for the brain) from organic walnuts and pecans (looks like the brain and targets it).
Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic stuff, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.
      Best wishes
      💙💙💙

OM-- There is needless confusion about vegan vs. whole-food, plant-based diets. People need still to declare what "vegan" means, as they use the term, to assure they are correctly understood. Much good research about the whole-food, plant-based diet is ignored when people dismiss the data as only a pretext to a vegan ethical rant. The two issues of protecting sentient beings and the healthiest human diet are logically different, however much you believe the vegan ethic covers all issues.

To play devil's advocate, would eating whole plant foods alongside healthier meat options, lead to the same changes? I understand the ethical and moral reasons for going vegan, but I'm asking from an entirely biological/ physical health point of view..... what do people think is the biggest factor in eliciting the positive effects..... is it the abstinence of all animal products, or the commensurate increase in healthy foods such as more fruits and veg?

Switching to a predominantly plant based diet has helped my life in more ways than I can communicate. It helped me to develop self discipline, over come addiction, reach and maintain a healthy body weight, increase strength, improve sleep, alleviate gastric symptoms, learn portion control, acquire and sustain higher levels of energy, facilitate colonic regularity and ease, lower my blood pressure, and lower my heart rate. I can say with confidence that it was the catalyst for finally observing a dedicated fitness routine as well as becoming mentally sound and stable. Hands down one of the best lifestyle changes I've ever made and I recommend it to everyone. I especially recommend it to people struggling to become a healthier and better version of themselves.
It's east at first but it quickly becomes easy. Once you're used to it, it's super easy to sustain too. It just takes some dedication and consistency.

      @SamuPuuronen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@glong86 cow milk is a the main source of estrogen in the average diet and can constitute as much as 80% of your dietary intake of estrogen, reports Estrogen Dominance Guide. As cow's milk is taken while the cow is pregnant and nursing, their estrogen levels are significantly higher. Dairy livestock are also regularly given doses of hormones to increase their growth and milk production.
      Does Soy Contain Estrogen?
No - none. Soya contains zero estrogen. (Side note: cow’s milk actually contains plenty of actual mammalian estrogen.)
Soya does contain phytoestrogens (plant hormones - not human hormones). Phytoestrogens in the human body are relatively weak and can actually bring benefits, such as a lowered risk of cancer, by 'blocking' actual estrogen.

@@glong86 sorry buddy, but plants have no estrogen, the same way they have no blood and no insulin and no cholesterol.
A living being produces only the hormones that it needs and nothing beyond that. What plants have is PhystoEstrogen, which has no use for humans and actually has the oposite effect, blocking our estrogen receptors.

Pat McAuley, I have been plant based for about a year. I thought I knew it all. But you taught me more in just 15 minutes. What an inspiration. Plant based has made me a much better nurse.

Pat McAuley, I just watched your TEDx and have to tell you it really touched me. I am so thankful to you for reminding me about the cruelty to animals, the amazing psychological benefits to my mood, the calm that comes with plant based eating. No one can possibly understand until they do it for themselves. You helped me to recommit to my resolve to stay away from animal foods and live a clean life. Thank you for your beautiful TEDx.

Paleo/Keto/Atkins/Low Carb is an epidemic that people will sadly regret. I bought the lie until I realized I was getting worse after that initial weight loss. A whole food, plant based diet and fasting saved my life. Good on you bro, educate the world

Explain how you regretted the keto diet?

Sorry but you are wrong. My 80 Father in law went on keto diet two years ago . Lost 60 pounds and off five meds and HbA1c went from 8.6 to 4.0. Eats some meat and a nice oily salad and some nuts. Has a whiskey every day. All other bio markers are equally excellent. I’m Switzerland on this. Vegan is good. It’s the sugar, endless eating of junky carbs that influence insulin. Fasting and healthy fats, Whole Foods with or without meat will work for most people. Grain are inflammatory for many people.

I hope you reply to my first question. Im genuinely curious as i have gone on this keto diet a year ago.
In what ways did keto affect you?

Weird how ive experience exactly the opposite then. Sick as fk from all these plant toxins until i went on carnivore diet and everything was gone including autoimmune. Veganism is a historic anomaly. It never worked never will.

Paleo is not low carb or wasn’t supposed to be. Lower carb maybe but nothing like Atkins.

After going vegan on an off for a year I decided to finally try one third time and stick to it. I love animals and how the agriculture treats them breaks my heart. I live in the valley drive through lots of ranches you see a lot of cows goats horses and I can never imagine watching one get murdered in front of me. I truly believe that what we eat has a huge impact both physically and spiritually.

Plant based dropped me from 102kg to 84kg and a BP of 150/100 to 117/74.. Dr’s said I was silly for not taking meds for the BP and one Dr even said diet will not fix it. Wow, Dr’s have a place, but it is not for the healthy, but those seeking a bandaid.

Thank you for your story! My story is very similar to yours. I have dramatically reduced my cholesterol levels and have set new PRs in every distance I have run from the 5k to the marathon since becoming plant-based. The unexpected part was when a switch flipped in my brain and I suddenly realized that what I had been doing to the animals was so very wrong.
