Have to say that I love it, since I have the same one. I’ve had it since January 1999. The bike is so analog that it’s great. Very forgiving as long as you know the limits.
so I owned a red and white 99r1 and it was a absolute monster for it's time and also the most unforgiving liter bike I have ever ridden.. the gigantic and extremely stiff twin spa aluminum frame along with the subframe being welded to the mainframe instead of bolted made it just so stiff.. it had a very short wheel base if not the shortest compared to any liter bike of its time and an extremely aggressive lower rake angle.. it probably took me years if not most of the years I wrote it to even get close to pushing it to maybe 70% of its potential at most and it was still just unimaginably insane it rode on rails. I actually went to a 180 size rear tire to the stock 190 that came on it for a much better sidewall profile for turning and having more traction which for me made a huge difference but it did take getting the suspension some tweaking to get the bike to not be so twitchy in the corners.. with all that said if you even disrespected that motorcycle just a little bit it would make you pay.. it was an absolute must that you take the bike to somebody that knows exactly what they're doing to set that bike up for your weight and riding style..0h and the transmissions in those bikes were absolutely horrendous.. it was always the second gear dogs they would constantly wear out and it would start slipping out of gear under acceleration. I went through two transmissions which is so expensive bc on those model years you had to split the cases to change the gears.. finally I went to a different shop here in Austin Texas and this guy installed all titanium gears which at that time in 2001 yes it was extremely expensive but never once that I ever have that problem again no matter how bad I banged on it

I really love her and with her iam survived after near accident with a Car and in other times i almost plunge in to a Pool.. My Yammie are intact too.. I still got AS 3 Yammie though' small twjn bike that i love so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Many big bike come and go in front of my eyes.. And i stick to my little bikes.. Ride her all happily.. When they broke down' i never cursed them.. I talked to them and fix them.. Then GOD answer my WISH.. A litter Super Bike that never come in my mind before' are brought into my very own eyes.. Cause i knew my limitations as an ordinary guys not a rich people.. Yup @ amistaschikku7116 buddy.. If u fall for R1 4XV.. Just keep up ur dream.. Save money little by little.. Do ur work passionly.. I’ve got the 1999 model. Love it 😍.Put a race fit growler on it sounds brutal. Fitting a steering damper is a must as it can get flighty under a big handful of throttle !! 😎😎😎😎
An excellent video and very accurate representation of riding one. In my opinion the first real Superbike and only very few riders will ever use its full performance and handling capabilities as it really is that good. The only genuine full power 'Street Fighters' ever made used that engine with no detuning, the Yamaha FZ1N (naked) and FZ1 Fazer (Faired) which will embarrass most current naked bikes even now at a fraction of the cost. With a decent exhaust slip on and Power Commander 5 a minimum 145 rear wheel BHP will even live with an MT10, add better breathing and change the rear sprocket (Front smaller or rear larger) and it is faster accelerating with similar top end! I have an early R1 and a 2005 version plus a 2009 Big Bang. The 2005 is the cream of the crop for performance and handling. Add 25mm minimum bar raisers and comfortable too on the 2005 and 2009+ models as physically bigger than all other 1000cc makers bikes in this class. Regrettably after 2015 fairing mods are needed to install bar raisers and as performance not much better than the 'older' Big Bang not worth the cost IMHO. Apologies for the long reply.

And take the damper and the short longer coupling-rods from the R1 Modell= rn09 2002-2004 and make it on your 99er Modell!! Than the Heck come 1,5 cm higher and the R1 can ride very safe when you give full power!! The damper Coup...from the rn09 are very much better for the "widow" maker 99er Modell, the damper from 99er are bad!!! Take for small money from the rn09 and you have a very good to handle 99er Modell!! I hope you understand what I need to "say"!? Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany
G'day.....in 42 years i had 32 bikes and 3 of those where R1 older models (year 99)..i think I am addicted ;-) i love them but best ride with your head because u always go faster than u think ..i love the weight to horsepower ratio..it feels light compared to the Kawasaki ZZR 1400 with his 200 horsepower which i had as well (ZX 14 in USA ) its true when u get older the riding position isn't that great (u almost need a black belt ...in Yoga lol ..).but its called a sport bike for a reason lol ..i still prefer the older models than the 2020 model although i have never driven one of those ...GREAT video mate ...loved it greets from rainy Belgium :-)
Yeah the power is nice, but I still want to try a newer one because of the better power. I used to have a MT10 and stats-wise it's not that far off... (MT10 compared with the bike in this video) The ZX14 is nice but the power kicks in late just like the blackbird etc... I love the instant torque =P "black belt in yoga" 😂👍 agreed! So the non cross- plane crank just feels like watching the kill Bill era of motorcycles and we all got accustomed to R1's with the cross plane firing order.
Yeah that's the sad thing. I don't get the whole insurance thing. You can just as easy hurt yourself on a MT10 but the insurance fee for the MT10 is low.... lol Thanks for watching

That one seems wayyyyy slower than mine i tracked my 0-60 at 2.4 with my dragy it also goes a bit faster not a lot but alittle I'm not the first owner either and it's a 99 i wonder why hmmm

Would a 1999 be an ok first bike considering the power is on par with modern 600cc ?
