Condolences mate. Did your beloved brother pass away from living his dream on a bike? or something else? Thats cool that youre keeping and riding his bike. In his honor!
My first bike was a 2008 CBR 1000RR( people say, I was crazy), but I loved itlove it(no drops no falls)! I took the Falcon Fury motorcycle class to get my license at the end of July 2021. I just started riding Aug 2021. A couple of friends had Suzuki 600 and 750 and I rode them both. I work for the Yamaha company and I’m buying the 2022 R1 next.

@@kameronking8694 Good luck man, I am still struggling with balance, I feel like if I put my legs on the foot peg I'll fall, any suggestion, I feel like I am stuck
Make sure you find a space where it’s flat. Drag your feet until you go a bit faster, then place your feet on the pegs. Remember, the bike becomes more stable the faster you go. I recommend practicing moving your feet up while parked and bike turned off, so you get an idea where your feet placement is.

Your right everyone is different, you clearly were able to pull it off. Maybe some Motocross or off-road back round and or natural skill. But if you tell the wrong person that a Yzf R1 is a good beginner bike, that’s like giving a baby a hand grenade. Not only can hurt them selfs but other people on the road. Something to keep in mind.

It's good to see how thorough you are with your explanations. If I were her, I'd be dying to get on it and start riding after a couple minutes lol. Safety and proper knowledge should come first, after all.
I just bought my first bike, a 2018 Yamaha MT-10. I have absolutely 0 experience but I have people helping me and gonna be doing the courses. I’m nervous for starting on such a big bike but I believe I’m mature enough to properly learn and respect the bike

When breaking I wouldn't only rely on the front to break, if you do it too hard, you'll totally wipe out in the front end. In motorcycle school they told me you use the rear also, just letting you know
It’s plainly obvious that you care for your niece. Kudos for your taking the time to walk her through the basics in a safe environment. But…I have to question the choice of an R1 as a ‘beginner’ bike. You seem to know your stuff, doesn’t that give you pause? I can’t ever imagine a bike like that as a forgiving learning tool. Keep an eye on that young lady, keep her safe, long may she run.
I am a newly licensed rider. The first time I heard the R1 fire up and rev. I said to myself, that’s the one I want. And I am awaiting delivery of one in September! Same color! I have a family and I don’t want to die, but I believe… I always believed, that even these bikes can be ridden responsibly. Right?
Yes they can be. It’s all on you. I made a video a while back on some riding tips to keep you alive, not sure why I didn’t post it. I should toss it up on the channel. It’s what kept me going 20 years now… and I don’t exactly ride like a grandma either. =)
Good instructions in this video. The thing with the feet being flat foot when sitting on the bike is dependent on the experience of the rider. Im short, 5'6 actually. However, ive had 3 R1 motorcycles and a KTM superduke R and im on my tip toes on all of them, and im fine. In saying that, my first bike was a ninja 250, then a CBR 400. I was flat foot on those bikes for about one year, or two. Then i moved up. I now love extremely high seat hights, and if a bike is low i actually dont like it, it feels like a cruiser if its low. I prefer the aggressive high seat. Basically what im getting at, being on your tip toes is not necessarily a negative if you have the knowledge and experience. Beautiful looking yamaha R1 by the way. Very neat and tidy 👌
I'm 26 and thinking about getting my bike license. At the school we will go through 125cc to 400c and finally the 600cc (the bike we have to do the exam on). I'm scared of such a heavy bike (It's a Yamaha XJ6) meanwhile this girl is riding a freaking R1 for the first time, she is awesome! I'm also about to be an uncle so I see myself teaching my future niece ahah Cheers dude, you are THE cool uncle!
Probably the most likely thing to happen to a beginner is they drop the bike at slow speed. That means a 200kg machine landing on your leg/ankle/foot. £100 on decent boots with support at the ankle could save you months of recovery. Overall great job though, I’ve got an R1 that I love. Stay safe!
i am about to buy a Honda rc51 as my first bike. I love it and i will learn on it. my brother who has a KTM rc390 as a starter bike, says im crazy. taking his words of wisdom with a grain of salt. everything can be driven or ridden slowly and smoothly.
Take your time on parking lot clutch work. Get comfortable with turns, acceleration, and more importantly braking. Your forearms will hurt as they adjust to clutch work. Make sure you take breaks. Only go out on roads when it’s quiet and light outside, never during rush hour or in the late hours when the visibility is poor. Gradually increase your comfort with speed, not only on straight lines, but also on curves/turns. If you stall the bike (it will happen) do not feel rushed. Cars can drive around you if needed. Take your time, restart and properly disengage the clutch. Good luck and be safe.
I havent spent more than 5 hours total on sports bikes. I have spent dozens of hours on small dirt bikes, but that was more than 25 years ago. Since then Its been pedal bikes. A lot of pedal bikes, (not close to comparable I think) That said I want a sports bike. I am an extremely cautious person, not impulsive in the way I drive (just with my time) I wonder if I can start on this bike....
Could you? Yes The problem is the logistics of getting the bike to where you are at and preferably in a large open lot. The folks that I’ve taught on R6s and R1s - I’ve ridden the bikes to the locations where they could meet and get their first rides in a comfortable, open area. Once they got the basics, it was more of a repeat for their second day, but with some road time in a quiet area with little traffic. 3rd rides in, I would typically ride along with them in regular traffic for support. After that, they were on their own. So, it’s not impossible to lean on a bigger bike, it’s just has to be approached the right way.
All the mistakes I’ve made learning to ride, I’m glad my bike was light and not very powerful. Cheap too…..I wouldn’t start on an r1. I’ll be buying one eventually. When I’ve drastically improved. My dream bike deserves that much 😂
The R1 14b is heavy to move around manually and take of the stand, the newer R1 are so much lighter they feel like old 600s. I'm surprised he taught a new rider on that R1 especially if it was set to A mode a slight twitch of the throttle gives you a thump of acceleration. It took me 5 track days and 2 years to get to grips with mine, straight plane engines are more controllable at lower revs than that cross plane.
I just sold my 2020 raven R6. I'm picking up a new 2023 R1, or maybe a used 2022 R1M. Depending on price. I want the base model, but dealership wants to look at the r1m. I'm going to go with the base more than likely. Don't really have the money to consider financing 12 grand price difference ATM.
@@MotoMaximus yea pretty much the same bike. Thank you, yea haven't got to ride it yet but next warm day. I'm going to be out there tearing it up. Paid 19k for brand new 23 model with a 3 year warranty. Got a killer deal on it.
She is fine and has never dropped the bike. Go to any Harley riding school and see what protection they wear there. Yes, it’s just jeans, and boots. Best to start out slow and work on mechanics, then as you progress (gearing, swerving, emergency stops) definitely invest into and use proper protection (leathers preferred). Cheers and ride safe!
I started on a 1000 but I also rode and raced semi pro in motocross for 10 years it's in my blood that and car racing the way k see it is you respect the machine and it might now kill you
Putting all good intentions to the side, if one looked up “better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow” in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure there would be a link to this video. Feathering the clutch, not giving it any throttle, not changing gears and putting in a straight line at 3 mph isn’t really riding and probably isn’t teaching you anything, it’s definitely teaching you less than say… belting around on a Yamaha 90cc. But hey: she rode an R1! YEAH!
The reason you start on a smaller bike is because it is harder to gauge your speed on a larger bike. At some point you have to stop. That's where novices get into trouble.
You can get into as much trouble on a 250 as you can on a 1000. You can hurt yourself equally crashing at 30 or more mph on a 250 vs 1000. The point of this video was to showcase that you can learn on and ride anything, just as long as you take a proper approach, go slow, and have respect for the bike. When it comes to stopping, a novice should always do emergency stop drills, no matter which bike they start on. 🤙🤙
@@MotoMaximus It's not just the power of the vehicle, it's the weight. A 1000cc R1, although light for it's size, is going to weigh far more than a 125. That bike was too tall for her. If she dabs the brakes in a panic while not completely straight, she is most likely going over. In the UK, a novice rider is limited to 125cc and 12bhp. Although you demonstrated it is possible, why take the risk?
@@yankeedoodledandy11 if it’s too tall, adjust the height.. if it’s too heavy, learn how to manage the weight.. Also just to clarify the video, this will not be her first bike. She’s only 15, so it’s a long time before she can legally ride a bike. The point was to show that you can learn on anything, including a big scary bike. 😃 As for novice riders, I think someone pointed out already that you may be a novice, but be 6’4” and a tiny 250cc bike is simply not going to suit your frame or weight. So “novice” becomes a relative term. There is another video on my channel when I review with a new rider what his experience was because I also taught him on an R1… and he’s doing just fine.
I wish the r1 i am riding had a B mode because the throttle is crazy(almost learned that the hard way,i still love the bike tho even if it doesn't like me
try switching your grip to this 👌instead of 🤜 It helps with sensitive throttle control and virtually eliminates the possibility of wheel hop-rebound scenario…
Approximate range. Also low fuel light will kick on and a mile trip counter will start counting up miles. From there, you have about 20 or so miles to empty.
You can't believe how jealous I am of that girl right now. I'm a 15 year old girl wanting to buy the yamaha r1 motorbike and my parents don't let me even think about generally buying a bike in future. I wish I had an uncle or an older brother that was a biker and could teach me how to ride. I don't know what to do to make my parents believe in me and let me buy a bike.. seeing all these videos just makes me sad because I know that I won't live my dreams at all :(
One of the most dangerous bikes on the planet. Well done, safety is a all about ‘control’ at slow speeds, excellent instructions. Shorter riders can use other techniques to remain stable at a starting position, would be interesting to see a video about that.
I would say first thing first, get proper fitting protective gear, her jacket way to big for her and wouldn’t give any protection.. always wear a helmet! Ride safe!
On the 06 R1 do you have to give it gas as you release the clutch or since the bike is so powerful you don’t give it gas as you let it go on a take off ?
When you are first learning, you do not need to give it gas. It’s the same with any bike, including 250cc. Once the clutch begins to engage, your bike will begin rolling all the way through full engagement.
@@MotoMaximus yeah but I have to give gas on my ninja 300 while releasing the clutch or else it’ll stall. Was wondering if it’s the same as any R1 or different since it does have a lot more power.
She has been busy with college prep, so has not had time to ride…. One of my other young students that started on the 04 R1 is doing great. He actually now rides the 2012 R1 that’s in this video as I have moved up to the 2021 R1
My 06 R1 won’t start but click on the relay solenoid. New stator with flywheel and gasket, new battery , new relay solenoid , new rectifier. I’m out of ideas this is frustrating
I liked the video and agree with everything except the hand being stait like that. Keep ur hands a little bend and relax ur hands u want ur weight on ur thighs hugging the tank or u will get a death wobble in high speed. Just relax the hand and bent a little
Beginner huh, tell her at her young age, if she enjoys walking and running that ankles usually get crushed in tennis shoes. The biggest part of any beginner learning is the importance full gear. Also tell her helmet only riders might live, but they will usually be riding a chair or crutches instead of a bike afterwards, this will help her understand full gear importance, hopefully. Dirt Bikes are the best to learn on, and cheap if you spill it, most of the time no real damage, and if the beginner decides its not for them and looks to sell its less money loss. First bike, sport bike, is flat stupid at any size, and I am not saying someone can't be taught or learn on one, its just far more sub optimal and far more chance of bad habits creeping in that don't surface usually until it matters when proper split second reaction means life or death.
Don’t worry, she is not a rider. We just did a quick video to show that anyone with zero riding experience can learn to ride with some basic foundations. If she would ride, she would wear all the right gear like her uncle 👍👍 instagram.com/p/CkzmQA_DQHD/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=

Same Komine jeans, good choice
Looks like Grand Rapids woodland mall in Michigan
Yup, it is 👍
0 to 85 in just 7 seconds had the power of 1000 horses
I started on a 1000 but I also rode and raced semi pro in motocross for 10 years it's in my blood that and car racing the way k see it is you respect the machine and it might now kill you
Nice Video 🔥
Thumbs up 👍
Nice first bike
Was looking at the laces and thinking she is gonna loose a leg.
Ty I wanna ride but nervous
nice work !
Perfect bike to learn how to ride
I taught my wife on my r1 and she crushed it!
Oh crap dude. Sorry to hear that your R1 got crushed 😢
@Phil Milligan How tall is she my girl is 5’2 and idk if she will fit on a R1 😂
Lower it a little
@@iimenaceii1297 she’s 5’5”. It’s hard but she did fine. Never stalled it. Never lost balance.
@@philmilligan7666 1000cc bikes are not easy to stall
Putting all good intentions to the side, if one looked up “better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow” in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure there would be a link to this video.
Feathering the clutch, not giving it any throttle, not changing gears and putting in a straight line at 3 mph isn’t really riding and probably isn’t teaching you anything, it’s definitely teaching you less than say… belting around on a Yamaha 90cc.
But hey: she rode an R1! YEAH!
My first bike was A turbo Hayabusa.
I think he was joking 😁
Very well done.
Hopefully has a matching per of leather pants an boots
As for novice riders, I think someone pointed out already that you may be a novice, but be 6’4” and a tiny 250cc bike is simply not going to suit your frame or weight. So “novice” becomes a relative term. There is another video on my channel when I review with a new rider what his experience was because I also taught him on an R1… and he’s doing just fine.
@@MotoMaximus Or you could just learn to ride on a smaller bike and be safer.
I think you proved your point and I get it.
Ya, we are on the same page. I personally learned on a 600.
I wish the r1 i am riding had a B mode because the throttle is crazy(almost learned that the hard way,i still love the bike tho even if it doesn't like me
try switching your grip to this 👌instead of 🤜
It helps with sensitive throttle control and virtually eliminates the possibility of wheel hop-rebound scenario…
what year R1 u got?
@@kapitangleba9814 2021
Stunning R1! What's the exhaust on it please looks amazing?!
It’s the Werkes USA exhaust. 👍
I started on an MT09 and 100percent happy I did screw the normies
That bike is awesome but how do you know how much fuel you have? the bike doesn't have a fuel gage
I don't know what to do to make my parents believe in me and let me buy a bike.. seeing all these videos just makes me sad because I know that I won't live my dreams at all :(
You’re time will come, when the opportunity presents itself - and it will, be ready.
Why do you want to start on an R1?!
One of the most dangerous bikes on the planet. Well done, safety is a all about ‘control’ at slow speeds, excellent instructions. Shorter riders can use other techniques to remain stable at a starting position, would be interesting to see a video about that.
Well guys with a height of 6 feet 6 inches and 280 pounds im getting myself a 2000 Yamaha r1 next year.Wish me luck ::DDDD
Bring it! 😃
My advice is learn how to drive a stick shift car first, make things a lot easier. One less thing to worry about
Cool experience
I would say first thing first, get proper fitting protective gear, her jacket way to big for her and wouldn’t give any protection.. always wear a helmet! Ride safe!
Can someone please tell how tall she is?
I really want to ride a Yamaha r1 😃 I've been riding motorcycles for about 2 years.
5’6”
@@MotoMaximus okay thank you :)
So the R1 is not lowered or anything like that?
@@ilhammohamedrazmin It is not, but can be lowered if desired. I should mention that the 2012 sits slightly lower than my new 2021.
@@MotoMaximus thank you for that information :)
It should not stall on your 300, if you release it slow enough. It will not do that on a Yamaha R6 and definitely not on an R1.
just dont twist the throttle too much and you can ride a turbo Busa easily
Need riding pants and boots. Those lace ups could get caught on a peg
START WITH A 1000 CC BEAST!
NICE...
any update on how shes doing now?
She has been busy with college prep, so has not had time to ride…. One of my other young students that started on the 04 R1 is doing great. He actually now rides the 2012 R1 that’s in this video as I have moved up to the 2021 R1
Is that a high rise windscreen mine seems way more low pro and
That’s the zero gravity screen 👍
Я учил свою мамку ездить на мопеде 50 кубов
И это было очень опасно
Ты же сажаешь её на 1000 кубов
Это самоубийство
Нечего, она выжила
HAHHAAH IF SHE CAN DO IT , I CAN DO IT AS FIRST BIKE
My 06 R1 won’t start but click on the relay solenoid. New stator with flywheel and gasket, new battery , new relay solenoid , new rectifier. I’m out of ideas this is frustrating
Is it cranking and turning over or you don’t even get that?
@@MotoMaximus no I don’t even get that it just like resets the dash and the relay solenoid clicks
@@almightytwisted935 how sure are you that the battery is good?
@@MotoMaximus the previous owner said it’s a brand new battery
Sounds like your battery is drained. Connect it to a running car and try again.
Next time make sure you wear shoes without shoe laces😋 you'll thank me later😜
Can a short skinny guy handle the R1?
167 cm, 60kg.
Can, yes. I would lower the bike a tad bit to be comfortable.
@@MotoMaximus Thanq
Yeah, I'll just jump into this F-16 for my first flying experience.
Go ahead
I liked the video and agree with everything except the hand being stait like that. Keep ur hands a little bend and relax ur hands u want ur weight on ur thighs hugging the tank or u will get a death wobble in high speed. Just relax the hand and bent a little
What a beautiful and brave girl 👋
Please keep her safe. R1 or not just please get her some proper riding shoes cause those long shoelaces are going to get caught
@@MotoMaximus I hear ya brother, it can still happen in a parking lot, sure the odds are against it, but at that age, why play odds. Anyone in control of a bike by themselves is a rider at that point, even in some lot. I get that your explaining the purpose of the vid to me, but my post is addressing the same based from a life of riding and witnessing. And that is not inferring you don't have it, just my opinion from it.
