  • Why Not Research Talks´23: Let´s talk about Dance, Brain and Music.
This event was part of Why Not Aarhus Lindy Exchange 2023 - our annual Lindy Hop festival in Aarhus.
Elizabeth Jochum is an associate professor at AAU and the head of the RELATE Research Laboratory for Art and Technology. Her work involves transdisciplinary collaboration in human-robot interaction, arts & health, and engineering with a focus on critical and creative approaches to health and wellbeing.
The talk: Dance for Health! Understanding the physical and psychological benefits of dance across diverse populations
Studies have shown that artistic forms of expression, such as dance and music, can support mental and physical health by improving increased quality of life through stimulating creativity and creating meaningful social relationships. This talk present results from three studies that investigate how dance can help improve mental and physical health. Moving Together studies the effect of a 3-month online dance training program on physical and mental health in the elderly in partnership with Aalborg Municipality. Creating the Bridges was a pilot study of dance and movement therapy (DMT) for family caregivers of children with disabilities experiencing loneliness and social isolation. Finally, ImprovAIze combines dance, wearables, and AI to develop intuitive audiovisual displays that accurately reflect physical activity and the felt experience of human movement.
