On this episode of Chopping Samples, follow along as I cut up some soulful samples and drum breaks. I’ll discuss working with the sequencer and laying down the foundations of a beat, as well as my thoughts on some of the bugs and glitches. If you’re looking for discussion on broken faders or broken speakers in the EP-133 then please check out my previous video, thanks, peace and love ✌️ - เพลง
Hey man! If it's any consolation, since the '90s I've bought many standalone units of samplers, rack mount synths, & sequencers from the legacy names like Roland, Yamaha, and Boss, and had glitches and had to send back or report it and wait for firmware updates! First adopters are always the guinea pigs! Hopefully it gets fixed soon for you! 🕊️
Thanks so much for the comment, generally I never buy something right when it drops but they got me with the impulse buy what can I say 🤣
@@BirdBoss Another YT guy said the update didn't help and "Project 7 dissappears all the time". I mentioned the release bug and he agreed in 'Like' but didn't confirm it. Maybe he hasn't realised it yet.
@@BirdBoss The only reason I used to buy before waiting until things were ironed out is because I was working doing shopfloor demos for a music store chain, so I felt safer and replacements etc were easy to cover. But I always resented having forked out all that money to be instantly disappointed by something!
@thekeysman6760 totally feel you, once I saw people opening up the 133 at home on day 1 I knew something wasn’t right but was too late to cancel order. Overall I’m happy to have the unit and very lucky everything from a hardware standpoint is working well. Software though is all glitched out, recently saw the FX glitch where it messes up your sequence when using FX, solution is stop and start again.
@@BirdBoss Nah, man! I couldn't live with that at all! Losing my work and starting again? 😮 Aargh! 😉
Like when I stayed up all night working in the W-30 way back & forgot to save to disc. I pushed the power button in to turn it off and suddenly realised..."oh f*ck!". I waited with my finger holding the power button from coming out again until my flatmate woke up, and I shouted to him to fetch me a disc from the other side of the room! 🤣 Nightmare! 😉
i didn't learn anything new about the ep133, but i DID get some ideas about new ways to approach music making again [techniques i abandoned years ago -- but now tec like this is making some aspects WAY simpler]
Thanks for watching ! Yeah the 133 rewards old school sampling techniques, speeding up samples to save time in the machine is one I like to use too
been watching a lot of videos on this thing and you’re probably the most enjoyable so far. thanks for pointing these things out, really hope they fix these
Thanks bro much appreciated, didn’t mean to come across extra negative because I do love the machine but it also leaves a bit to be desired even compared to the PO-33. Love your avatar btw
nice beat man. cozy ass vibe in this video i dig it
Thanks for the kind words much appreciated
First, thanks for addressing the horrendous release. You’re one of the few to actually address the mess upfront.
And thanks for the awesome video on a performer POV.
Thanks for the feedback and nice comment much appreciated ✌️ I’m editing another video now, I’m enjoying it more these days for sure
@@BirdBoss well, we’re in need of people talking about TE shortcomings AND wins.
I already loved your channel, now it’s an essential!
unconfirmed at the moment. I've been hit with the release bug as well, I think I got it to go away the other day by changing the sound type to legato, playing a few times and then going back to one shot. That bug has caused me to put the thing away at times mid session, so I totally fee you w the ending statement. Again, I haven't confirmed the above fix, but thought I'd throw it out just in case
It sucks because the hardware is beautiful and you really can cook on it but it’s not quite there yet. I generally spend no more than 15 to 25 minutes max working on a beat so if that time is spent trying to work out a glitch then the whole flow is busted for the session
Ive gotten this glitch as well I get it to go away by turning off the unit and turning it back on, very annoying tho.
waddup bird looking good today!
Thanks if you look closely I shaved between the intro and the main beatmaking session 🤣
so this device has a slice to pad kind of like the mpc live 2 can do? hmmm
Yup, not sure if it works based off of sample length or transients or what. The old PO I believe split it into 12 equal parts so maybe that’s what this does as well
How did you load the sample? When I use the online sample loader it doesn’t let me load in.
Recorded via the input havent checked out the sample loader
Have you experienced the sample cutting out when using too many drums or sounds?
Not yet, but I’m also stacking Kick+Hi Hat and Snare + hi hat as in I use a sample that has a hat on the tail to use as little sounds in the box as possible. Learned it from my time in the PO33 and works here as well. Also all my samples including output are in mono
Bro that’s normal every sample has a limit on the “voices”(sounds) that can be played at the same time polyphonically so if you reached the limit of voices of your sampler, not sure what the limit is on this one but might want to keep that in mind bro hope that helps
Beat was hot though. Peace
Thanks appreciate that. I’ve figured out my workflow for it since this video, think the glitches have been sorted out as well
New update is out. 1.1.1
Saw that, going to give it a try thanks for the tip ❤️
So disappointed, just copped this sampler, then realized you can’t export any of your tracks??? You only really have pad options 6-9 to save work on??? Tf is the point of that
Connect it into your interface and record the track digitally no different then the PO series really but it could’ve definitely used an SD card slot to transfer over songs
It’s meant for creativity on the spot and on-the-go. Not a full fledged DAW or professional standalone sampler. Best thing to use it for is to sketch out ideas and make something when you’re movin around and got spare time. It’s made for spontaneity just like the PO series but with a few more options.
@@Mar.Escobar24 word that makes sense. Sorry I’m new to this world, been interested in making beats for years but never had the time or knowledge to sample and make it happen. I’ve learned pretty quick over the passed month - what would be a professional option with DAW ? Does the sp404 have a similar work flow?
@@Mar.Escobar24 my thing really is I already have 3 tracks on this thing I love, I’m supposed to either record as a master track out into ableton or use it as a sketch pad and re create everything later? That seems counter productive. I want to sketch, and then refine the sketch and tweak it later when I have time. To have something just to “sketch” on is kind of counter productive tbh
@@portrasoftI honestly haven't tried the ep 133 yet but I am ordering it. My plan is to go by trial and error. The next step up for the 133 is the sp 404 but even that device people claim lacks functionality. Next up I would go either for a mpc live or a maschhine mk3/plus
