I’ve been restoring classic vehicles for about 6.5 years now as a painter, straight out of high school. It’s been a great job and it’s in high demand so I’m setup up nicely. Personally though, I want to make a change. I love cars and trucks but I don’t want to work on them for 30 years. I realized a few months ago that I want to go to college and become a pilot. After doing my research, I found out that the military can provide both for me and train/teach me well. I decided to walk into a recruiting office after leaving the shop one day and now I’m enlisting and going through the process. Thank you for helping provide your experiences to help people like me make my decision and help my family understand why I’m making this decision. You and Sam Eckholm have been the most help.

I was Air Force Reserves for 6 years, got out in February and rejoined the Air Guard recently. I was a 1C0X2 (ARMs) and I loved it but wanted to do something different... went through some options and I'm an admin type of guy! I'm also a Junior in college pursing Business Administration and want to go into Human Resources so I crossed trained into 3F0X1 (Personnel). That AFSC's CCAF is Human Resources Management.. which looks good to have with the Business Administration degree. I definitely highlighted what I wanted to do and understood what I was going into and why this time around!! Honestly if my new unit can keep me on orders or I can finesse an AGR slot... I'd love it!
Question... So you joined as a reserve which is part-time. You choose something in the airforce and you stated you loved it. Now is it a case you went back to school outside of what you were doing?

Just found this video today and tips were helpful! My question is, how do I know I have a good recruiter. I have heard stories of recruiters painting a fantasy and new airmen don’t enjoy their jobs. I want to make sure when I enlist, I have someone that actually cares about what I am going to do with my life.
Hey Tim, thanks for the support💪🏽. To be honest, i might, but I really don’t know where I’ll be 20 years. I know what I want to do, but where exactly I’ll do is something I’ll keep looking to figure out as I grow. I love the Air Force. The people I meet, the things I get to do, and having a job that has a purpose for all of the people in this country. If I’m able to stay in this Air Force for 20 years, it’ll be a blessing. I’ve decided that I will keep serving as long as I keep finding value that I can bring here. Hopefully for a long time I’m the Air Force, and in the areas I live as well.
Unrelated question. How long does it normally take to get out of dorms? Let's say you enter as an E3 because you have 45 college credits. How long is it usually from the moment you start living in the dorms to the moment you are allowed to live off base and receive BHA? Thank you It has been really hard to find an answer for this.
You usually stay in the dorms until your 3rd year mark, you reach E-4, or you get married or have a family. Whichever comes first. Some bases allow you to move out earlier, depending on how much space is available. If you’re going in as E-3, you’ll probably be in the dorms for 2 years max, for you to hit E-4. E-4 BTZ or signing up to move out early because of limited space can speed that up. Check out my “Air Force Dorm Tour” video 👇🏽. I talk about it some there too.
hey man, I needed a second chance and started the process to enlist in the Air Force at 37. I have a bachelors but still am going enlisted since I would be past 39 by the time bmt for ocs came around. any advice?
I know exactly which job I want (public affairs) but how can I assure I get that job? The recruiter said even if I qualify for it they might put me somewhere else
Preciate the support man! I signed a 4 year contract. I came in with some school credit, so I still got E-3 rank. Good luck with your process! Let me know if you have any questions.
Im stuck between doing logistics or cyber security/warfare . Logistics and material management ik are pretty easy ig but cyber security might be harder but is something im kinda passionate about and great opportunities when you get out . What do you think?
Good video. How long have you been in the air force? Did you sign up for 4 yrs or 6 yrs? Congratulations on your career in the usaf. Thank you for your service.
My son is thinking about joining. He wants to work on airplanes. Fifth gen aircraft mechanic. What do you think about that job. Is something better that does similar work.
Can you pls answer, is there any combat jobs with the air force or just the random careers like administrative and pilot? Like no mid lane/combat careers
Yes, though there are more in the Army the Air Force does have combat jobs. They fall under Special Warfare, and are called Tactical Air Control Party (TACP), Combat Controller (CCT), and Pararescue (PJ). These jons require a more intense PT test (PAST test) for entry as they work under the Special Operations umbrella. Outside of Special Warfare, Security Forces is the nest closest combat related job in the Air Force. There are also some lesser known combat related jobs, such as Special Missions Aviator. All worth checking out.
Hey man I just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been really enjoying the videos. I just wanted to ask though if you knew if I’d be able to get the Special Missions Aviator job guaranteed to me so that I don’t end up with a job I don’t like
Hey, thanks for watching bro. From what I’ve heard, Special Missions Aviator is an in demand job. There’s a good chance you’ll have it depending on what else is on your list. Have you been to MEPS already?
@@thelifewithkev no I haven’t yet but I’m planning on going next month but I’m not signing a contract yet cause I don’t want to get sent to BMT right after graduation, I took my ASVAB at my school in September last year and academically qualify for the job already

Make sire to check the r/AirForce and r/AirForceRecruits. There are further job descriptions there and at air force recruits, discussions on the day-to-days of certain careers.
I am on my way to MEPS and I am trying to get into postal work, or either security forces not sure which one would be for me yet hopefully I can find out at tech school
How are you, I'm thinking about comissioning as an officer in the air force and I'm currently a college senior and about to graduate this year in may. I talked to one of the air force recuriters and he basically said that my GPA is too low to be qualified as an air force officer. I am a health science graduate and I have a 3.1 gpa. What do you recommend I should do?
Hey Christian, sorry for the late response. If becoming an officer is something you really want to do, I would keep trying. Getting into OTS is very competitive, but the minimum GPA is a 2.5, which you exceed. I would look to improve your strengthen your package from another angle, like a higher AFOQT score. This test score is crucial for acceptance. You can also try another recruiter than can work with you to find options.
Im 2 years too late. Im 16 and i quit trade airforce is gonna be my punishment. What exactly do they do? I need a 4 year college degree to fly a plane so what exactly is it? Close combat mixed I can't find anything with combat footage
It’s a great job man. Honestly one I didn’t know about until I got offered it. It’s a lot more hands on than the other cyber/Comm jobs, with being outside setting up terminals and equipment. The field is more about telecommunications, such as satellite dishes, or tactical radio setups. I like that I get to be a bit active instead of sitting at my desk all day. We don’t learn a whole lot about networking like other cyber jobs do, but we still get Security+ certified and there are plenty of jobs on the outside for it too. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Good evening Sir, I would like to know can we join the American army and pursue our dream of professional footballer since I have no money to enter the real school?
Hey! Thanks for the video. So you sign off on your job after the ASVAB but prior to basic right? I was under the impression you sign up with your dream sheet but you won’t know your official job until basic. So you leave with a guaranteed job? Thanks in advance!
Yes, that is correct. After getting your ASVAB Scores at your first MEPS visit, you’ll make a list of jobs you’d like with your recruiter. Once of the those job becomes available, you’ll receive a ship-out date for BMT. When you ship out, you’ll go to the MEPS station for a second time for some final screening and paperwork before leaving for Lackland. So yes, you will leave for basic with a guaranteed job, or at least a guaranteed career field.

How long did you wait for a job to become available?. I’m currently waiting for a job in the Air Force and been waiting for a month and a half and I’m excited to leave lol.
So I got a bit lucky. A slot opened up from someone who dropped out, so I was only in DEP for two weeks. A month and a half isn’t bad so far, I know people have waiting 2-3 or even 6 months to a year. If it’s for a job you really want, it’ll definitely be worth it.
Hey, yeah I have, I’ve been interested in going officer. It just may be easier for me to go through OTS if I decide to, since I’ve already completed some college.
Can you get into cyber without being a US citizen. I just finished MEPS and scored 73 on Asvab. Please advise ! Im trying to be like you. Also, im joining the Air Force reserve.
If you’re able to join the Air Force at all, then cyber-related jobs should definitely be available to you if your ASVAB scores are high enough, and there are no major issues with backgroud checks. Your general score looks good, you will need to get around a 70 in the electrical section as well. I would check with the reserve unit you plan to join to see what comm/cyber jobs are available at that unit. The process is a little different than active duty
Hey bro I’m thinking about joining I’m on path to graduate high school this year and I’m 17, what’s your through in joining straight out of high school like I’m planning on doing ?
Hey man, for joining out of high school, I’d say mainly just take advantage of any opportunity that comes your way. Enjoy traveling, meeting new people and learning new skills. Volunteer for everything, do things that make you uncomfortable, and find a way to see the positive in any situation. Some days will be a little rough, but keeping your head up and focusing on the good will always help you find best moments. You’ll be ahead of a lot of guys your age, with starting a career and having income. Learn how to take care of your money, how to save and put it in the right places. That’ll put you far ahead in the future. Also, take advantage of free education and go to school. Learn skills and get a degree that’ll put you ahead in the military or in the civilian world. You’ll learn to mature in the military, but at the same time don’t be in a rush to make grown up decisions. Keep people around you that are positive and have the same goals you do. Don’t move too fast with the ladies and stay away from alcohol man, you can still have a great time without it haha. Enjoy and take it all in bro. You’ll have tons of experience and memories. Wish you the best of luck.
Hey Kevin in 15 and been working out lately and I want to go to the airforce and be a pilot or F-16 mechanic do you have any advice on what path I should do and also I weigh 220 do you think I can make it also do you know know how I can lose belly fat I work out a lot I just wanted to know did you had any tips
Hey man! If you want to come into the Air Force as a pilot, you’ll need to be an officer. Since you’re still in high school, check out the Air Force Academy. It’s a four years, you’ll be done with college (for free) and you’ll pretty much be guaranteed a pilot spot. You should be able to start the application process your junior/senior year. Grades are important, so it’s good to do your best on the classes you have. Here’s a link for more info www.usafa.af.mil/ For the fitness stuff, being consistent is the most important thing. I’d say keep working out, more body weight stuff (pull ups, push-ups), start getting into running a bit, and focus on clean foods. You never need all of the fancy protein powders or supplements, just a healthy balanced diet. Here’s a link to the max weight for height too. www.airforce.com/how-to-join/prepare-for-success/meet-requirements
Hey, I’m not too sure how that process works. If you talk to a recruiter they probably would know a lot more. For getting cyber specifically it’s gonna depend on your ASVAB scores in certain sections. If you check out a cyber job on one of the websites from the description, it’ll tell you the score you need. Hope this helps.
Hello, this is a very random question but are people allowed to roller skate on base ? I was looking into the Air Force . I’m currently in college but I’m still figuring out what i want to do . I’m also big on roller skating which is one of my fears that i won’t be able to do it when joining .
Hey, I don’t see why you couldn’t roller skate on base. The only thing I know for sure, is that if you’re on base, you have to have on protective equipment (helmet and such). Let me know if you have any others questions. I went to college for a bit too before joining. Thanks for watching!
Hey, here’s what my friend who’s in maintenance(armament systems) said: They choose our shred for us , you can try and change your shred once you get to tech school but I only know people that get it changed because they get an aircraft that requires top secret which means nukes and some people don’t feel comfortable handling nukes . Armament basically loads the munitions/weapons on the aircraft, troubleshoot any problems with weapons , so basically anything that’s wrong with a gun , missile or anything we try and fix it. The Munitions (Ammo) which is a different AFSC makes the bombs and missiles , so they make them then we load them , it’s basically a mechanic for an aircraft. it’s a pretty chill job overall , just in tech school you gotta be willing to pay attention, just like any other tech school , also sheppard afb is very chill and lenient, so if they come here they’ll like the freedom , but yeah weapons is cool and also in order to change your aircraft other than the request thing , you gotta reach a 5 skill level , it’s easy to get , everyone gets their 5 skill level after 1 year at their duty station of doing CDCs , the quickest someone can get 5 skill level is like 7 months. Hope this helps, if you have more questions for him, let me know, I can connect you to him.
You’ve got time to do your research now. TH-cam videos and just exploring what’s available on the AIr Force website is a good start. The job preference list you make is going to be the key, man. They may offer you jobs that leave sooner, but if you know it’s not a job you want, than there should never be a force to take it. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions bro.

@@Slerveyy calling mine for the first time today. Just gathering more intel. Interested in air force currently but planning on transferring to space force later down the road.
Hey, a lot of them are recommended to me, or I look up a topic I’m interested in. I usually just go to Amazon to order them. They’re pretty cheap for a paperback copy. Small price did a great investment back into yourself.
I believe you could leave the rest blank, but others may be chosen for you. I would ask your recruiter the same question, and do some more research to see anything else you might be interested in.
You will go to technical school right after basic training for whatever your job is (aviation, communication, etc.). Throughout your career, you may be sent to other school for additional training as well.
How would you say your overall experience is so far? So far would you consider resigning? Could you see yourself potentially retiring from the Air Force?
Honestly man, I’ve enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I love that what I do feels purposeful, and I’m always problem solving and being challenged everyday. There are a lot of people here. There are definitely days that aren’t great and will get you down, but the highs have outweighed the lows for me. There are a ton of opportunities to learn and do new things , you just gotta put yourself out there and go after them. My next goal is actually to finish my degree and commission as a officer . I hope to show you guys that journey too. It’s still to soon to say I’ll do 20, but my idea so far is I’ll keep going until I feel that I’ve done everything I want to here.
@@thelifewithkev That's great man. I'm going to MEPS and stuff hopefully sometime next month for the air force, so I wanted to get some opinions. Most people seem to really like their experience and end up resigning. I plan to commission with my degree as well late next year-early '24, and I'll be enlisting as E-3 also. Ultimately, I want to be a pilot of some sort, whether it be in the aircraft or RPA, but I'm really hoping to land a job as an RPA Sensor Op or something involving aviation and build relationships and make some connections/potential references while I'm waiting to be able to commission. It would be great if you're able to document that process later on. Keep it up!
I’m not too sure. I don’t know anybody personally who’s made the switch, but I know it’s possible. A recruiter or leadership might be able to answer those questions.

Do you know the answer to this?
Wait. What can you do as a permanent resident I cannot find a single video about persons who are permanent residents choosing jobs in the military. My #1 aim is to do Diagnostics imaging however could I? Hey id appreciate your response!
you can't have a cyber job if you're not a citizenship yet?
@@Wwrq3iI’m a US citizen but because my parents aren’t US citizens I’m not able to get into Cyber security which really sucks. I’m guessing that’s how it works for them military.
You have a beautiful attitude Kevin. You really Interspration
I appreciate the support🙏🏽. Thanks for watching
Is your intro song a downtempo PAC song? I swear I’ve heard that melody before.
Yup, it’s Picture Me Rollin
Just found this video today and tips were helpful! My question is, how do I know I have a good recruiter. I have heard stories of recruiters painting a fantasy and new airmen don’t enjoy their jobs. I want to make sure when I enlist, I have someone that actually cares about what I am going to do with my life.
Impressive
Thanks for the information I'm going to join the air force
Hey Kev I love the videos. I was just wondering if you plan on retiring from the Air Force? Retiring in your 40s sounds like a dream.
@@thelifewithkev Thank you!!
hey man, I needed a second chance and started the process to enlist in the Air Force at 37. I have a bachelors but still am going enlisted since I would be past 39 by the time bmt for ocs came around. any advice?
I know exactly which job I want (public affairs) but how can I assure I get that job? The recruiter said even if I qualify for it they might put me somewhere else
I like watching your videos. Going to meps sometime this week to join military. What is your contract length?
Preciate the support man! I signed a 4 year contract. I came in with some school credit, so I still got E-3 rank. Good luck with your process! Let me know if you have any questions.
Hey Kev! I’m studying for my asvab test. What score did you end up getting on yours?
Im stuck between doing logistics or cyber security/warfare . Logistics and material management ik are pretty easy ig but cyber security might be harder but is something im kinda passionate about and great opportunities when you get out . What do you think?
Good video. How long have you been in the air force? Did you sign up for 4 yrs or 6 yrs?
Congratulations on your career in the usaf.
Thank you for your service.
Preciate your support man. I’ve been in a little over a year. I signed for a 4 year.
My son is thinking about joining. He wants to work on airplanes. Fifth gen aircraft mechanic. What do you think about that job. Is something better that does similar work.
I didn't choose, it was chosen for me
I’m gonna try to pass the ASVAB for the airforce hopefully I get a IT job
Really want to become an air force firefighter.
we need more videos.
Hey bro ! What your asvab score on the test was?
I have tattoos in my hand and the army won’t accept me is it the same with the Air Force
Good evening Sir, I am Kaba Mohamed Lamine I would like to know can we join the American army and pursue our dream of professional footballer since I have no money to enter the real school?
Hi,
What if I want to wait for my number one pick?
Can I do that?
Dawg, I don't know if you're still in, but transition to Officer and then get your 20 years in. Trust me.
Make sire to check the r/AirForce and r/AirForceRecruits. There are further job descriptions there and at air force recruits, discussions on the day-to-days of certain careers.
You deserve a new subscriber. I have given you mine. Looking forward to join. God bless.
Thank you for the support. God bless you as well🙏🏽
I am on my way to MEPS and I am trying to get into postal work, or either security forces not sure which one would be for me yet hopefully I can find out at tech school
Hi, I'm curious how is RF Transmission so far? I'm currently in DEP and curious if I should rank this job as my top 5.

Welcome to the fam brother💪🏽
Have you considered applying to the US Air Force Academy?
@thelifewithkev Thank you for the reply, I will speak with my recruiter. Thank you.
Here’s a link for more info
www.usafa.af.mil/
For the fitness stuff, being consistent is the most important thing. I’d say keep working out, more body weight stuff (pull ups, push-ups), start getting into running a bit, and focus on clean foods. You never need all of the fancy protein powders or supplements, just a healthy balanced diet. Here’s a link to the max weight for height too.

Thanks kev
When did you join the military ?
Hey, about a year. Check out my first video, I tell a little more about how I joined.
Do you have to put down 10?
What’s the possibility of getting a cyber job if you not a US citizen but permanent resident
@@thelifewithkev Thank you !
Is a jet mechanic an easy job to achieve? Or do you have to work your way up to a jet mechanic?
Hey, here’s what my friend who’s in maintenance(armament systems) said:
They choose our shred for us , you can try and change your shred once you get to tech school but I only know people that get it changed because they get an aircraft that requires top secret which means nukes and some people don’t feel comfortable handling nukes .
I’m thinkin about joining the Air Force but I want to be able to pick a job I know I’ll like you know
You’ve got time to do your research now.
@@thelifewithkev appreciate you man💪🏼

@@Slerveyy calling mine for the first time today. Just gathering more intel. Interested in air force currently but planning on transferring to space force later down the road.
Hi the books you be reading where do you get them from?
Hey, a lot of them are recommended to me, or I look up a topic I’m interested in. I usually just go to Amazon to order them. They’re pretty cheap for a paperback copy. Small price did a great investment back into yourself.
But what if I don’t have at least 10 I would like to do??
I believe you could leave the rest blank, but others may be chosen for you. I would ask your recruiter the same question, and do some more research to see anything else you might be interested in.
gotta make a choice AF or CG?
I just turned 20 but I wanted to join is it to late ? Or um how high does your score on the test have to be to pass?
20 is nowhere near late 😂 like what
Are you allow to go to multiple schools like technical school and aviation like air craft mechanic ?
You will go to technical school right after basic training for whatever your job is (aviation, communication, etc.). Throughout your career, you may be sent to other school for additional training as well.
Are you able to get an apartment off base?
Nearly 6 minutes in and you still haven’t directly addressed the main point of the video. Bye
Dude intro expired me to workout
Keep it up!
Good job can you help me to join am from Ghana leaving in Ghana now

Is 27 too old ? Also do you share a dorm ?
27 is not too old!! you would have to be in the dorms for at least a year. You would have your own dorm room though, and just share common areas.
Mary is right. The cutoff age for the Air Force is 39. You’ll also have your own room once you get to your first duty station.
