Two weeks ago the sunroof moonroff exploded on my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Going 115 km per hour on clean not busy highway. Glass everywhere. Lucky to be alive. This problem could be fixed by laminating the inner surface as per commercial glass for about 30 dollars per vehicle

@@poke85Consumer Reports did an article twice I believe and they talked about the reason why they are exploding is because manufacturers are using tempered glass instead of laminated glass. When tempered glass breaks, it breaks into a whole bunch of small pieces and makes that loud bang noice. When laminated glass breaks, it doesn't make that loud noice and stays in one piece. Look it up. Laminated glass is whats on your front windshield. Tesla uses laminated glass on their moonroof/sunroof and have NEVER had that exploding problem! They NEED to start using laminated glass and the problem would be easily solved.
Its the quality of the glass been used. Elements of heat+cold combine it with the pressure from the interior and outside wind which the roof of the car taking most of that pressure especially when moving with a speed (aerodynamics).thats why panoramic roof is just overrated design just like top-down that is just for luxury accesory but have design flaw due to those elements and pressure.even if they put high quality glass there,it might not shatter but it will cause leaks and noise overtime due to how cars flex on a daily basis usage.
No. A sunroof is an unnecessary feature in a vehicle that most people can live without. There’s not only the risk of shattering while driving, but also there’s the risk of leakage during downpour. .
My 2021 Chevrolet Suburban’s Sunroof Exploded and GM won’t take responsibility. Beware of the poor customer service and GM denying that the glass on sunroof doesn’t just break. Wake UP GM Sunroof Exploding on your vehicles is Real. 30 years as a loyal GM customer and now leaving us out and dry and the brand new 2021 with warranty is Really with NO warranty. Beware of GM’s current practices.
Mercedes B Class sunroof shattered on its own. Some months ago it was the smaller front part , I was driving & thought maybe it had been by hit by something. Now recently the bigger middle part shattered while I was driving on the highway
I have a Honda Civic and my sunroof exploded! Sounded like a gunshot! Went to dealer next day… to this day have not heard from Honda.
