    It's done... It's over now. Usually I'm anxious when posting new videos because I'm worried I may have missed something important. Not this time! I'm just happy I finished the video! haha. This one took a while (understatement), but I sincerely hope it helps someone out. I tried my best to cover everything without going too long. So hopefully, I was clear and concise.
    I'd also like to give a big thank you to everyone that has supported me recently while I worked on this video in the background. I can't believe how patient everyone was, and in turn, I tried my hardest to create the highest quality video within my capability. You guys are awesome.

      I just wanted to add that shift+space and cntrl+space have been clutch keybinds for my experience - they're always underneath pinky+thumb. Intuitively for me, this works well for highly reactive "oh f***" abilities with no target requirements - sprint, slow fall, CC break, shadowmeld, large defense CD, etc. Also these are the biggest buttons on a KB... it may get the "noisiest keybind award" but I

I found the first 6 are easy for the combat stuff but can't seem to keep the next 6 to work...not sure what I'm doing wrong. But one things for sure, it's hard to get to the last few - even with my flexible thumb!! LOL..

    The No.1 tip I can give is when changing from clicking to keybinds is to level a new character of the class you play. It naturally restricts the number of abilities available and therefore the keybinds required. It’s also a low stress environment in that you’re basically just questing. A couple of weeks of this and you can go back to your main with new muscle memory and high confidence!

    Aaaaaannnndddd I'll just keep on buying expensive MMO mice. 😂 It's an amazing video btw, and it probably shows the most ideal way to set up keys and spells with a regular "two side button mouse". I was just hoping that it would somehow be even simpler hehe. Like you said, "the best keybinds are on the mouse", and when you have used a 12 button MMO mouse it is extremely hard to go back to a 2 button mouse. 🙂

      I've been a clicker since Vanilla and I still am. I get overwhelmed easily and this video didn't help it too much when it came to using the scrolling wheel as a bind as well since I still zoom in and out with it.
      Ignore the trolls saying anything negative about it. I know I could probably "get gud" or whatever if I could do keybinds, but it's just an overwhelming process to me. I am always afraid I will screw up a bind somehow and hit something wrong such as needing to hit s-3 for something and accidentally just hitting 3 and somehow wiping a raid from it.

    With direction-sensitive instant casts, like blink, cone of cold, etc., the right mouse button is a silent modifier as it's held for aiming unless you keyturn. Depending on your mouse, using your thumb for stabilization during right-button aiming and then transitioning to button press may compromise aim, a lot. It's more reliable to split the work between hands - one aims, the other pulls trigger without risk of bumping the other.
    If you play with an MMO or tall mouse and use your palm for stabilization more than your finger tips, this may not be an issue. I think fingertip grippers like me will find it much easier to simplify the right thumb's job: stabilize or click, but not both at the same time when it can be avoided. Forcing it to multitask during fine movement + holding right click will cause more goofs and camera jolts.

    • @Max-dv1kq
      @Max-dv1kq 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Q is blink E is frostnova R cone of cold - wow so ez i click i all for a cool combo... Blink on q is legit the best thing

    • @jonathanbraithwaite7063
      @jonathanbraithwaite7063 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

       @Max The pain point for Q is left strafing. For me Q is health stuff (first aid, healthstone, etc., not the best) and so sometimes while strafing left, it's up to my left pinky to reach using perfect touch typing technique to save my life. imo, that's too dangerous and awkward. Blink can also save or kill you and is sometimes a panic button, so it's placement is pretty serious.
      For a fundamental movement spell with short CD (blink), I tried to keep it away from movement keys, something not pressed by left ring, middle, and pointer fingers for minimum conflict... This is how I decided on shift+space for blink. I know it's weird but I like it, it feels very very stable.
      The E key does not have the same problem because of standard keyboard staggering - your middle finger can reach E while strafing right. It doesn't mean you should change anything, just something to think about. Side note, this quirk is partly why I'm shopping for an ortholinear keyboard suitable for gaming, maybe an Ergodox is in my future....
      I'm leveling frost and putting blizzard on E feels good to me. Classic frost mage is the first class I've played where channeled AoE is standard rotation.

(For Me Anyway) Unbound S as backpedaling isn't efficient at all. I use a naga mouse also for many years. I wish I would of learned without the naga cause now I cant efficently (with my left hand) use Shift 123or4 cause the naga tainted me. lol

When it comes to gaming content, I usually stick to the bigger names simply for the higher probability of getting reputable information (and of course access to their comments section where people call them out if they get it wrong). As a small time streamer myself, I realize I'm a crappy person for this mentality 😂😂 I say all that to say this. I never subscribed so fast in my life. This video has great visual diagrams, illustrations, vocal tone and articulation. But most importantly it helps one know how to think about their bindings, not merely the mechanics (let's face it Bartender makes that process painless). Worth a revisit at every Alt or when looking for a more efficient key-binding iteration.

    I think you could make a service creating keybinds for people. I would be interested in buying them lol. It is an entire art in itself, and for most people it is just a very boring chore to figure out. But you really sound like you have a lot of thought behind.

    My beef with shift modifier is that I use it as my “cast on self” modifier, which I just developed the habit of using, so I have a weird hybrid of ctrl/shift, this video was definitey very insightful though and when you said shift mouse button 4 and 5 I facepalmed so hard that I never thought about that

    I commented before, but this video is totally worthy of a reference video. I keep returning to it when the pre-patch came out and when in the previous patch, I was trying new builds or even picking up better on-use trinkets. But I referenced this link as an answer to a Reddit question (hopefully more hits and subs). Can't say enough about this well done video. If any improvement needs to be done it might be to add a time link index in the comments, but even without, it's worth a re-visit with each patch that comes out. Again, great job, Muhshuh!

    Here's another pro-tip. If your mouse allows it, you can program one of your mouse buttons to become the shift key which makes it so much easier to press than using your pinky.

    First time I am bookmarking a WoW video. Kudos on a remarkably useful video.
    Been playing since 2006 but I'm very casual, I stopped being a clicker on S1 arena when friends expected me to not suck at PvP (they were sorely disappointed of me, my shadow priest, and my habit of playing while drinking), and up until a couple years ago I kept keybinding 1 to = and F1 to F12.
    In Legion I started toying with Shift+ all keys close to my left hand, but now I am taking the plunge and unbinding most of the defaults as you advise and binding everything close to my hand.
    It's probably going to be a slow week (and a few deaths) while I get used to this.

    Awesome guide, I learned alot. In terms of modifiers, I recommend using capslock in additon to shift. It's easy to hit, and you can achieve its functionality in chat by just holding shift anyways.
    In order to get this to work, you'll have to map it to another key (i.e. alt or ctrl) outside of wow, since wow does not allow for caps to act as a modifier.

    My bar keybinds look like this...
    first bar: 1 2 3 4 5 C R X V Z T F
    2nd bar is the same using shift (which i bind to a button on my mouse)
    3rd bar is the same using cntrl (bound to another mouse button)
    4th bar is the same using shift+cntrl
    Stance binds: Alt-1 Alt-2 Alt-3 etc
    I've been using this setup since Vanilla when battlegrounds first released. I was a warrior and realized the most important thing was being able to perform whatever skill or action I needed to do as fast as possible. Back then I usesd Q and E for my trinketmenu addon and since that became obsolete overtime (swapping trinkets stopped being a thing).
    Never seen anyone else talk about keybinds with the same concepts in mind.
    I don't use scroll wheel up and down or left/right cause for me they are TOO EASY to accidentally push and I use the scroll wheel often to adjust my camera distance. I chose middle mouse button for my auto run back in vanilla, it's not a button that feels natural to push while in combat but is perfect to help control my character while traveling without using my keyboard at times.

    I'm currently playing on a priest and am having trouble with targeting. What do you suggest for modifiers/targeting kbs when I essentially need 6 (3 for friendly and 3 for enemy)? anything helps! I'm considering using like the scroll wheel up, down, in for my team/self and shift and ctrl modifers for enemies? Like I said I'm kind of stuck, could use some help! previous to this I've only ever healed in dungeons and I use healbot for everything

    • @muhshuh
      @muhshuh  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      this one's tough. everyone does it different. I think that using middle mouse button, scroll wheel up, and scroll wheel down for you and allies. and then using shift-middle, shift-scroll up, shift-scroll down for enemies sounds like a great idea.
      I think ally targeting keybinds are WAY more important than the enemy targeting ones. so start with just that if it's too much, as you can always just slap autotargeting onto your smite, mind blast, etc. if you really want to.
      like this:
      #showtooltip
      /targetenemy [noharm]
      /cast Smite

    A surprisingly under utilized keybind is actually Shift-Spacebar and Control-Spacebar. Very easy to hit. So i always put my main defensive on that Shift Spacebar keybind, big giant button for those O-crap moments. ie. Iceblock, Bubble, Fort Brew, Deterrence

    The logic behind this video applies to other applications too. I always rebind shortcuts for other applications I work in, be it Photoshop or anything else. Also I use side buttons on my mouse (its 7 button mouse) for Delete, Enter and Backspace. This way I have right hand on my mouse and left hand on WASD area and don`t need to raise any of my hands for pressing these 3 buttons (and they are pressed too often), unless I type something.

    pro tip when unbinding the stuff: bind everything u want to unbind with a key (lets say 6) then when u bind the next one to 6 it unbinds the previous one. You just have to click the next one and 6 instead of moving the mouse up and down each time to click "unbind key".

    I think it's important to mention that if you have software for your mouse and happen to have some spare mouse buttons you can change the binding for those mouse buttons into shift and control so that you can move your movement keys over to something like esdf or rdfg.
