Hey Everyone! Thanks so much for all the positive feedback and comments on this video. I've learned a ton from your messages that I didn't know before!
    1. I learned that you can recast Eagle Eye without cancelling the aura by using the macro /cast !Eagle Eye
    2. I learned that Divine Intervention was an awesome raid wipe prevention tool in Classic WoW
    3. I learned that Water Walking and similar abilities had niche uses in many dungeons and raids for saving time.
    4. I learned that Ritual of Doom was added earlier than I remember.
The list goes on, but MOST IMPORTANTLY:
    5. I've learned that there are TONS more abilities like this in the game that you guys have been sharing stories about.
Please, keep sharing your knowledge and stories in the comments, and reply to this pinned comment if you want to provide ability suggestions for me to make a follow-up on.
    Thanks again and take care!

4:40 it is used in raids when you see there is going to be a wipe and other ways are exhausted (like soul stones). You give it to a rezzer and avoid walking from the graveyard. It is preferred to using shaman reincarnation, as reincarnation can be used always after a wipe if not in range of mobs or a boss and divine intervention requires some skill

I remember I was on a private server once with a friend, and this level 60 warlock came into the crossroads, convinced a bunch of people to help him summon an infernal, and then basically sat back while the infernal raged around killing people. It was too high level for the guards and any players to deal with, so we just kinda watched it go for a little bit, and then I noticed someone healing the guard it was killing, and me, being a healer, just started throwing out heals on the guard as well. This was followed after by other players running in to attack, other healers keeping this guard alive, just throwing out desperate low level dps and heals to try and finish off this infernal. After like 5 minutes, we managed to kill it, and the warlock player yelled "BLAST! I'LL BE BACK!" Then mounted up and ran off into the distance like a saturday morning cartoon villain. Genuinely one of my favorite memories from WoW, and it was from a private classic server before classic had been brought back officially.

This cracked me up, reminds me of the time a lvl 60 undead mage showed up in a newbie area, and I was a lvl 20 priest. The mage was blowing up the guards, so I foolishly cast my tiny baby heals on the guard which flagged me for PvP 😂
The mage killed me over and over, I just kept running back, so confused but fascinated lol

This reminds me of a time on Nostalrius where a warlock did the same thing with internals and doomguards in Goldshire.
All these paladins and 60s came to try and stop it, but it was just too strong. Iirc for some reason it had like, 10k+ health or something.
So even with the guards, a 60 pally and a 60 priest, the thing was still wrecking. I say 10k+ because I recall it being an utterly baffling amount of hp, but I don't recall how much. Plus the warlock was a human. So they couldn't exactly stop him. After killing it he just summoned another lol.
Nothing has made me want to play a warlock more than that moment

You could make double the money on a humanoid if you killed it too. Rogue would also occasionally find lock boxes on enemies and that would help him level up his lockpicking, so double win there.

One of my most notable memories was during wotlk on my warlock. I would run a For the Horde achievement run every weekend and I would sneak into an area that has no npcs or any use and 2 rogues would follow me, we would summon an entire raid group into an enemy capital city, kill the leader and then use a mage to portal us to another city that was next on the list. Gradually the alliance set up a defense force of their highest ranked pvp players and actually began to slaughter us. We ended up having to come up with craftier tactics so what we did was had mages summon 5 portals so the enemy wouldnt be able to tell where our next location would be. It got to the point they were putting sleeper alts into orgrimmar for when I started setting up for the run and they would spy on us in discord. So our only option left was to have a strong 10 player core of pvpers that could put up a fight against them. It was definitely the peak of my WoW experience

He would spend most of his time exploring everywhere, hunting for clips in the ledges that he would be able to climb. His gear was abysmal, but that's because he only wore things that looked cool.

I think the World of Warcraft, the main character of the MMO, literally even today with the world being sentient, was sacrificed in the name of efficient levelling. This flies true even for current content, where every new patch deprecates and flattens the experience of the previous patch and empties the zones

    • @Nasduken
      @Nasduken 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

I agree with you. However, i think its important to not put all the blame on blizzard. To a large extent, the players are the ones ruining the game themselves. The interesting mountains are still there, and high lever areas that you dont know about is still something to look forward to for the new players.
The playerbase decide these things are not important, and our elitist playerbase require of eachother that X itemlevel is required to explore further content. We also require from eachother X achievment, and X previous experience, X class and talents. List goes on.

I have my own fun little story that was only possible thanks to the flavor abilities of the rogue.
Back in the day i was trying to get rare/weird achivements so i ended up wanting to get the fishing achievements "old crafty" and "old iron jaw" as an alliance iron jaw was a matter of time but old crafty well that was another story. As an under geared recently max level character sneaking into oggrimmar was no easy task let alone fishing for god knows how long until i got the sucker so i came up with a plan.
After looking at oggrimars map i found a small river next to "the valley of honor" where you could fish now i just had to find a way to get there. Thanks to the rogue passive ability "safe fall" plus having the minor glyphs that increased the distance safe fall would apply to i decided to fall into oggrimar so i took a boat to kalimdor, summoned my flying mount and off i went.
After dodging the flying guards and getting into position i dispelled my mount and prayed i survived. Lucky enough i survived with 20 hp and no one saw me so i managed to fish and get the achievement. All the thanks to some dumb flavor ability and an old game mechanic that no longer exists.

Me and my hunter buddy used to use a lot of these when we'd world PVP. Water walk was great for ambushes, shortcuts around difficult spots and taking backstab-proof rests, we also used farsight and eagle eye on chokepoints to plan attacks, thousand needles elevator being one of our favorites. Hide in the high hills and you can meet them on the road while they wait to go down/disembark.

My favorite thing to do back in the day was to make a macro for rogue that cast Ambush and then Vanish right after. What we did was to hang outside Orgrimmar (we were allies), and find someone who was PvP tagged doing duels. As that person lost the duel, they would have their HP very low, and casting this macro would kill them without them ever seeing you. For them it would seem like they died from the duel.
We also did this with Thrown, making it so a random knife just came flying at them, killing them right after losing a duel.
Was also really cool to be able to walk up almost any wall using Levitate.

Tbf a lot of these are still used in high level content,
-Water walking is used in dungeons where you can't mount up and there's large bodies of water that need to be crossed (Shrine of Storms and Halls of Infusion off top of my head have some).
-Far Sight abilities are used in PvP for scouting to see incoming enemies in RBG's and used in M+ when its a dungeon that has a changing route like Waycrest, makes it so hunter/shaman can call to tank which route is open.
-Mind controls (DK's/Priest/Locks) will be used on certain op mobs in dungeons to have them use a unique buff or it will be used on a mob that we don't want to waste time killing since its a lower percent.
-Not Mentioned but Spellsteals are fun ones where you turn a mobs buff against them, was used for some really cool pulls in dungeons where a mob had a strong ability the mage would steal and get a huge damage boost.

You're fighting at a capture point flag with a group, the battle gets close but your team dies 1 by 1 until there are 2 left. You're getting low, no other cd's left, and you D.I. the other person left. Now the Alliance have to worry about this one person left being able to capture the point, and they're invulnerable for 3 minutes.

Another thing that was pretty cool about Shamans that barely anyone knew about was how 'Sentry totem' worked. When you switched to totem POV the shaman would stop and stand still... WHEREEVER it was... like exact x,y and Z coordinates. That meant that shamans had their own weird kind of slow fall since they would float in the air if you went to totem POV. You could do this over and over with no CD. After the first POV switch you would however have no momentum and fall straight down but still it's been handy to know that trick many, many times.
I know it worked back in vanilla, but I think it was fixed in TBC. I don't know if it's still a thing in classic.

One of the biggest issues I see in modern RPGs is taking away player agency to use these niches to solve problems. Questgivers will task you with going underwater and then cast waterbreathing on you. Let the player use their options to either cast waterbreathing, make a potion of it, use their UD racials, speed potions, asking guildies, or just let them do it inefficiently compared to those with those options - they're likely to flourish in a different scenario too (unless you just give everyone the answer in that situation as well.)

That was one of the expansions that you had to get to the level cap for flying, but the eye of kilrogg was not part of that, so Warlock engineers could teleport up tall buildings and and use goblin gliders off of them to reach spots you couldn't normally get to. After the level cap there was no point in using it anymore, but for 10 levels or so at the start of the expansion, it was a fun little microcosm of game breaking that was here and immediately gone.

Back then, water breathing makes you wonder "Maybe there's some secret caves with treasure inside!" while it now makes you google if there are any instead.

I agree. Slowfall, and water breath where clutch.
Or druids ability to animal shape and move in water was incredible.
With flying mounts attacking mid air, sliwfall and watch them fall to death was brutal. People would just scatter when they saw priest in air.

I loved jumping off of a high point as druid and transforming into a bird right before hitting the ground. Or as another person here mentioned, swimming in sea lion form, jumping out and transforming into a bird

I hate how they removed some iconic abilities like hellfire and lifetap.

My first 60 was an undead priest. I'm glad you mentioned mind soothe. I used it to walk into storm wind then talk to alliance with the /e exploit.

Regarding Eye of Kilrogg, you used to be able to use it to place your Demonic Circle away from where you're standing with a glyph.
Doing this back in Mists of Pandaria, you used to be able to get up to the pipes on the ledge of the VIP Loung in Bizmo's Brawlpub without completing a single brawl.
I used to do it all the time on my 84 Warlock twink back then. Couldn't get into the actual lounge because it would teleport you out, but it was a nice vantage.

Interesting how you were both talking about classic and retail aspects of the game. Cool concept

Blink was by far my top fave. Before the engine changed, you could use it in the air and blink across in the air. Some places you could also use blink to go up vertically. Could climb up ontop of places with it, so many hours of slowfall and blink climbing.

zen flight is a fave for the monk. you can dismount in the air, gather, talk and then mount back up w/o ever touching the ground. :)

Eye of Kilrog goes back to Warcraft 2 RTS days, it was a way to lift the 'fog of war' and scout. Water walk has a number of useful pvp applications, probably most notably in arathi basin. I didn't know Shaman's Far sight could be re-cast in succession, crazy how you can find new stuff out about such an old game and I played a shaman for years.
