Tamerlane was fully Mongolian, he spoke Mongolian and Persian and Turkish, the confusion is because he wasn’t a descendant of Genghis Khan, so people think he was just a Turk since he wasn’t a khan. But according to that logic, Subudei and Jochi are not Mongolian as well, since they are not from Genghis Khan’s bloodline, even though they are undoubtedly Mongolian and part of the reason the Mongol empire grew so vastly. You don’t need to be a descendant of Genghis Khan to be Mongolian, otherwise Genghis Khan’s best generals were not Mongols. Barlas is a cadet branch of Borjgian, both are Mongolian in origins. He was not that great, he just had enough man power from all the central Asians and Persians. Ottomans didn’t have enough man power so lost to them. Bayezids Defeat due to changing loyalties like a slut by tatars and anatolian Turkic beyliks, weirdly for Ottomans biggest praise goes to the Serbians for their loyalty and their proficiency in battle.
Next stop after the Ottoman Civil War, the Conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed II and what made Sultan Bayezid II remembered so well in nowadays: Opening his borders and allow the Jews exiled from the Iberian peninsula into his realm and for calling King Ferdinand of Aragon the "wise" ruler for impoverishing his own country and enrich the Ottoman realm by banishing the Jews from Castile and Aragon.
After some time had passed, the entire light Ottoman cavalry had been scattered, and Stefan Lazarević found himself cut off from the center, which still resisted Mongol attacks. Observing the Turkish army abandoning the battlefield and realizing that further combat was futile, Stefan Lazarević decided to retreat. Despite being wounded, during the retreat, he managed to break through with his knights to reach Bajazit, enabling him to withdraw. The stubborn Bajazit, still firmly holding the center with 10,000 Janissaries, refused to leave the battlefield, believing the outcome of the battle was not yet decided. When he persisted, Stefan withdrew alone towards the west, protecting Suleiman's retreat from the Mongol forces. After the battle, Tamerlane maintained a respectful attitude towards the captured Bajazit, but not for long. He began to take him everywhere in a cage, using him as a footrest. The pinnacle of his cruelty was when Tamerlane ordered Olivera, Stefan's sister to serve wine in Bajazit's presence. While some sources claim Bajazit was struck by a stroke, others believe he was humiliated by this sight and drank poison hidden in a ring, or that he committed suicide by banging his head against the cage bars. Stefan’s sister, Olivera Despina Lazarevic, was captured by the Timurid army during the battle. Tamerlane released her and allowed her to go back to Serbia without collecting any ransom. It is believed that this was because of the respect he had for Stefan.

And weak for a great horde empire but I think Bayezid is not but he was a very courage and arrogant commander
@@fatihunal8400given the numeric advantage Timur had, I think it’s pretty safe to say that he would’ve won even without resorting to betrayal. Note that his reserves didn’t even see much fighting. He would’ve suffered more casualties, yes, but the odds would still have been very much in his favor
@@fatihunal8400 he actually was outclassed, Because Timur used that exact same trick against Tokhtamish as well
So the dude was clearly skilled at infiltration tactics // So while Bayezid played just chess, Timur played 4d chess
"Greatest military mind" where is the greatness if you can only win by cheating and betrayal? Lets be honest here, Bayezid had the greater military mind and timur can only win by unfair methods.
timurids collapsed. their descendants ran away and created another with rajput help@@hussainumair5837
The number of soldiers participating in the battle is large, it looks like a battle from WWll and not the Middle Ages
На востоке всегда воевали друг с другом до 200-300 тысячных армией.
Amazing performance from Stevan Lazarevic, who commanded a heavy European cavarly. He was the member of the order of the dragon, the chivarlic crusade order of the European nobles. Ironic, that he fought for the Islam, against the other Islam empire.
То је био тек након ове битке!Учествовао у турском грађанском рату Бајазитовом синова на разним странама,с потом се удружио са Мађарским краљем,ушао у ред змаја...
It will be great another video about Timurs' successors how weakened the mighty empire. Thanks.
Shout out to Stefan Lazarovic for his loyalty
I really enjoyed this video. You people really did great. Can't wait for the sequel video.
What it makes it more interesting is that Timur was from Turkic tribe Barlos🇹🇷🇺🇿
@@ivan.jeremic you’re going to every video about turks and leaving comments 😂😂😂 why are you guys so insecure ?😂😂😂
@@visionarypath_24they are always jealous of our history brother😂❤🇹🇷🇺🇿
Barlas was a mongol tribe at the beginning
The native Turkics were being conquered and ruled by the Mongolians.
@@appleofeden9101 They were all GokTurk subjects just 500 years before. So, power change hands in Steppes very often based on the geniuty of the rulers and who has the most lack of unity at the time. Subutai was Kipcak Turk by the way, it was not the Mongols , it was the geniuty of Chengiz alone. Like Ataturk was he greatest of his time and Turkish nation defeated all imaginable odds with him after 700 years in the same Anatolia. Amazing, eh?
Great video..... Waiting fr it........ I hope u would cover timur's campaigns in such a manner
I would love more Timur Lenk and 14th/15th century content :)
Such a rare occurrence in war that a foreign vassal with a small command becomes your MVP.
Not really MVP when you lost the battle and got captured lol.
"There's always a bigger fish"

Pride comes before the fall - had Bayezid made his stronghold in Ankara like it was advised, it could've been a very different outcome. Much credit to Timur who planned to draw Bayezid out while simultaneously doing his political homework and found allies in Bayezid's court.
Stefan is such a badass.
Timur's power wasn't his army but his diplomacy and brain. He was nonetheless a diplomatic genius
It was both. He was also a military genius.
He was not that great, he just had enough man power from all the central Asians and Persians. Ottomans didn’t have enough man power so lost to them. In Middle Ages, how many soldiers you have determines the battle along with what technologies you use. And maybe how good your generals are and strategy and tactics.
Terrific stuff!
everyone left Bayezid even his biological sons (commenders of ottoman forces during battle) left him but salute to Janissries (his loyal sons) they never abandoned their father ( Sultan of Rum " Bayezid the thunderbolt" ) every single Janissary died on battlefeild, when there's few hundred Janissaries left and defeat was faith for Ottomans some handfull "Kapakulu" (Janissaries cavlary) tried hard to break enemy line and escot the Heir of House of OSMAN Sultan Bayezid I thunderbolt, every single of them died to proctect their master
Your Ottoman series is just so good.
50 years later, the Ottomans would conquer the most impregnable city in history.
Hahahaha this is nice joke
@PualClinton-qc3ru it literally happened tho...
Bayezid had balls of steel, Coldest Sultan, didn’t even retreat and fought to the last men, against a manic ruler
He wanted to escape at the last moment, but the 19-year-old was caught like a mouse by Mirza. 😅
Stephan Lazarevic True Chad
Bayezids Defeat due to changing loyalties like a slut by tatars and anatolian Turkic beyliks, weirdly for Ottomans biggest praise goes to the Serbians for their loyalty and their proficiency in battle.
Wow ! The boys really knew how to get things done - back in those days.
Thank you for spending time and efforts on giving information about the history of Turkish people and Islamic states from the history.
Good video great learning
Awesome video as always! So glad that you'll be discussing the civil war that followed, it is a fascinating topic
Beyazid’s and Timur’s letter exchange was the first twitter beef 😂😂
Next stop after the Ottoman Civil War, the Conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed II and what made Sultan Bayezid II remembered so well in nowadays: Opening his borders and allow the Jews exiled from the Iberian peninsula into his realm and for calling King Ferdinand of Aragon the "wise" ruler for impoverishing his own country and enrich the Ottoman realm by banishing the Jews from Castile and Aragon.
I returned back my city Ankara a few days ago and find this video. Thanks for the litlle history lesson bro.
Amazing work this battle would make a great movie
Please create a video about Stefan! The first among the knights of the Dragon order.
I love the Timurids, just because of how surprising they were. They were like the Huns or Sea People, just appeared on day and started wrecking havoc.
Huns are the first Turkish empire. ancestors of Timurs and Ottomans
@@makashturanThere is no proof of that, the first known Turkish Empire was Gökturk, that was started because of Rouran(Mongols) treated them as shit.
Both individuals are important figures in Turkish history. Bayazid's misfortune was encountering Timur.

It's insane that the Ottomans rebuilt from this
Looking forward to the video about the Ottoman Interregnum. Its hard to find detailed Information about it online
Finally, another video on the ottomans, i thought you guys forgot about this series. How many more videos will be there in the series?
Not sure, but very many
How could they forget if it will go all the way to the 20th century?
I hope they make it atleast until the remake documentary Siege Of Constantinople (1453)

third version of the battle of Ankara and we lost it again.
It looks you like making video on this important incident so Could you make a fantasy video like " if Ottomans were victorious in the battle of Ankara?" .
How would it effect to Ottoman and Europe history?
I think there would be no much effect on the ottomans, they kept it together RELATIVELY well on the long road. Maybe less harsh inheritance rules. Italy would have had less people influencing the renaissance OR the renaissance triggered a bit earlier, it's a coinflip.
Please upload the next episode of this series as soon as possible
The letter between the 2 king is missing important details.
Timur requested the ones who fleed to him to give him back.
And the Sultan insulted him while Timur keep speaking back in political way.
Until the Sultan said "begin to devorce from your wife" while Timur the wife had died very recently
Timur used the pay to win mechanic yet again 😂
As someone who is proud of my Ottoman ancestors and a big history buff , it’s incredible that Ottoman Empire miraculously survived and went on to form a huge Empire at its height went to the gates of Vienna ( twice ) . The other interesting fact is , when all of the Turkic Beyliks and Kara Tatars betrayed Sultan Beyazid , Serbian Knights stood their ground and held the line . They were the bravest and the fiercest ally Sultan Beyazid had in the Battle of Ankara. You gotta admire their courage and commitment.

16:00 The core of the army was still intact, yet Suleyman chose to abandon the army and his father, and flee all the way to Edirne. He probably foresaw the inevitable destruction of his father's reign, and decided to go back and seize power.

It's amazing how much Eastern Roman and Ottoman history rhymes sometimes...
History even rhymes first as a tragedy then as a farce ..
It’s always awesome to watch these bits of history, but 45k men were either killed or captured. That’s a lot of souls for the sole benefit of two families. Wild to me that this happened so often throughout our history.
Thats medieval times for ya
This demonstrates the sick mind of humans; becoming slaves or killing machines of some monstrous monarchs or families How bad.
Major ups to the team's work !
Third time's a charm🎉
Please continue to series urgently.
The records of this battle always make me feel that Timur wouldn’t win without all those traitors.
Saw this situation play out many times in Europa Universalis. Bayezid 'Yildrim' was no patsy, but a man like Timurlane comes but once in a generation.
Timur is real-life bannerlord game character.
