🚩 Skanderbeg, a national hero of the Albanians, was the first to organize a league of Albanian princes, over which he was appointed commander in chief, in 1444. For twenty two years, in the period 1444-66, he effectively repulsed 13 Turkish invasions. His successful resistance to the Ottoman armies made him a hero throughout the Western world.

This is the start of a nice series. One that I would be greatly interested in seeing all the way through. I just hope you don't neglect the other series that you have going too much.
Hey thanks historymarche I can't wait to electrocute my face
Skanderbeg is forgotten in Europe today, but back then he was THE STAR. The Pope even wanted to make him the leader of the new Crusade, but unfortunately he died in Ancona. He was awarded the title "Athleta Christi". Fought against the Ottomans, at that time the most powerful army in Europe and Asia Minor, and at the same time against the Venetians, who also had very good armies. And he traveled to Naples to help the local ruler in suppressing a revolt. Even Sultan Mehmet, the conqueror of Constantinople, had great respect for him and called him the shield and sword of Europe. Even Vivaldi wrote an opera in his name. He won 25 battles against the Ottomans, which, as already mentioned, had the most powerful army in Europe and Asia Minor, and always outnumbered, sometimes even 3 times behind. Who knows how many more victories he won in his time with the Ottomans? Anyone who says Skanderbeg is nothing special is quite simply an idiot.
Turkish got the most advances army in 15 century they are Braveheart and lions ,but Gjergj was Ace of that Century, Italians call it Legendary warrior of all time ,his fight with the most supremacy army who terrorize all Europe he should call The terror of all terrors. He got many Braves man in his army ,Lek Dukagjini who was more.powerfull than Scanderbeg was more worrior,Lek.was more.powerfull than him but Scanderbeg made All Arbror principate united with Lidhja e Lezhes .Scanderbeg fight Venice and Otomans in same Year ,Made a victory evan for King Ferdinand. Were Albanian are united they say we born in war and in war we die.If other nation don't have fear to kill we dont have fear to die.Gjergj Kastrioti have God skills for fight he deserves a great Hollywood movie to honor him .

My ancestors come from northern Albania. Ottoman Turks occupied Albania lands eventually but at an extreme cost which stopped them from further invading Europe. Albanians were the gatekeepers that stopped Ottoman Turks from taking Vatican. If it were not for the Albania sacrifice Vatican would probably be called Istanbul today. Imagine being able to occupy a country or people for 500 years and yet still fail to conquer or assimilate the people. That’s because Albanians already had a developed identity, culture and langue that you could not destroy. Scanderbeg was the mortar that put all these ingredients together and solidified Albanian identity and country. Ottomans invaded the land and found the eagle people who would not kneel to no one. The only thing that makes me sad today is how many history books and ancient artifacts Ottomans destroyed as a sign of revenge to Albanians for resisting. A proud Illyrian here!!! Survived Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. They all are gone but Albanians still here today. 😂
this guy really reminds me of Hannibal's tactics in the 2nd punic wars. all that terrain usage and trickery. I want to see more of this guy!
Skanderbeg didn’t only win battles against the ottomans but also conquered alot in Italy for his allies
YOOOO you made a Skanderbeg vid as promised. I've been waiting for this for 2 years. Thank you so much
Finally Skanderberg getting some love instead of the over discussed Napolean and Hannibal.
Napoleon had probably a larger success, in my opinion, fighting 3 major powers and 5 more countries just by himself and his army. Though skanderberg had great feats. Like defeating one of the most strongest armies at the time and being outnumbered.
i'm albanian and i agree. Napoleon is the goat noone is better than him. i think he was inspired by some skanderbeg tactics@@Hussarz
@@Hussarz funnily enough the battle of albulena is used as an example of "napoleonic warfare" before Napoleon in Military history class. I agree Napoleon had some major feats, but we cant compare the difference in strength albania had to the ottomans, France was the mightiest country in europe not to mention he had the support of many people around europe due to revolutionary ideas spreading(like, half the grand armeè was made of foreigners like germans, italians, spaniars and poles)

Imagine the cinematic scene of the calling of the hidden troops. :)
Men like Skanderbeg are those people who would have been great conquerors if they had enough resources. With a small empire, they can at best turn out to be great defenders, as Skanderbeg was.
no lol he was a average general
@@darkz1563 lol stop trolling bro. The man never lost a battle.
Not that obvious, some men thrive in defensive wars, taking advantage of terrain, troops morale and enemy overconfidence, but aren't very good at exploiting large armies and numerical advantages.
Take Robert E. Lee, for example. His greatest victories were defensive battles against superior northern numbers, but as soon as he went on the offensive, he got beaten back. Ultimately, it was Grant's mastery of logistics and good use of his numbers and industrial advantage that allowed him (who, by all acounts, wasn't a "tactical genius", unlike men like Mc Clellan) to overcome Lee.
Then again, it was a particular context. As were Skanderberg's times and achievements. Don't get me wrong, the man is a genius, but it's a bit of a shortcut to think he'd have been just as great a conqueror as he was a defender for his people.
@@darkz1563 But that "average general" managed to win while often outnumbered and outgunned.
@@altrias2455 the only problem with that is that he did fight in offensive war in Naples as he had an alliance with Naples and helped crush their rebellion
