    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

And he's not doing anything all that special, either. He's just engaging in a discussion about epistemology while not engaging in the ego-defense tactics that the church beats into people. I had a conversation with a (very intelligent) colleague who was able to see that it was a little odd (for him) that he was not very concerned about whether his belief about the age of the planet was correct. I couldn't get him to go any further than that, but having him realize and say out loud that he's not as invested in truth on one subject as he usually would be, well, maybe that's enough to get him to be curious about its cause.

Believers choose to believe the Designer, Creator of the universe exist because all creation screams there is an Almighty, Designer, Creator. That last bit sounds nice (If completely _racist!)_ until you read below:
      *Exodus 21;2-6 NLT*
_If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever._
Oh look, a loophole. Emotional manipulation at its finest!
Let's see how the bible treats women… (Who are always counted among the property in the OT, even when they're not slaves!)
      *Exodus 21;7-11 NLT*
_When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment._
Female slaves only go free after their masters are tired of raping them daily, or they forget to feed them for a few days… Hebrew only… More racism!
      *Deuteronomy 20;10-14* NIV
*10* _When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace._ *11* _If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you._ *12* _If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city._ *13* _When the Lord your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it._ *14* _As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the Lord your God gives you from your enemies._
Oh look. Human plunder, and some christians dare to tell me the hebrews never kidnapped their slaves. I wonder what they'd call this, these so-called experts on their own holy scriptures.
And let's see the new testament:
      *Ephesians 6;5 NLT*
_Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ._
      *1 Timothy 6;1:* NIV
*1* _All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered._
Nope, nothing about abolishing slavery here. Hell, they want christian slaves to be good little slaves so their rules aren't slandered.
The sad fact is that antibellum slave owners used the bible to justify the practice of owning human beings and beating the shit out of them.
Here's what it says about how you treat your human property:
      *Exodus 21;20-21 NAB*
_When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property._
Slavery is evil. I've seen christians say it was not.
Now, because you do not understand basic logic or science, "Survival of the fittest" does not mean that the strong dominate the weak. It means that those organisms that are best adapted to their environment survive preferentially over those that are not well adapted. That's all it means. It was never meant to be taken as a social construct.
      Might does not make right.
As for the conquest rape, so it is not forgotten:
      *Numbers 31;17-18*
*17* _"Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately._ *18* _"But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves._
You may say that your slavery loving god is good, but as I have said: Slavery is evil, and thus so is your god for only ever endorsing the practice and never condemning it. Now, if you look at these genociding mass-murderers as people who think that might makes right, why do you think your god only had them spare the pre-teen virgins? (Remember how young they married in this culture, and how they considered women property.) Were they being merciful? No, because they killed all of the baby boys and old women. Were they throwing these little girls tea-parties? No, these were genociding mass-murderers who thought they had a powerful, sex-obsessed misogynist of a god on their side. No, these were men with no understanding of the basic human rights of others, including their own women.
They only saved the pre-teen girls for their virginity. The passage makes that quite clear. Why else would they do that except that they get to deflower them in rape?

    • @heyitsdrew

no. God exists irregardless. the reason why God has not been observed by scientists, which would be proor for his existence, is because the true God ( of the bible ) isn't looking for us to "believe" in him or not he is really looking for us to come back to him and love him. if you had absolute proof for Gods existence then did not love him back or follow or listen to him, what would be the point of God giving you the evidence that he exists?
if you've read the bible and read exodus, then you would know even the Israelites saw and experienced God yet turned their backs on him. and what was Gods reaction? to put them to death. that would be your fate as well.

    • @klaxoncow
      @klaxoncow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think the most crucial aspect of "walking on water", though, is that it's a rather pointless conjuring trick.
"I am the Lord thy God! Thou shalt have none before me!"
"Really? Why should I believe you?"
"Ah, allow me to demonstrate. I can walk on water. Impressive, huh? Also, if you choose a card - any card - then show it to the audience, but not me, I can tell you that... wait a minute... your card is the 6 of clubs! I can also saw people in half in a box and put them back together, if you've not seen that one before."
"Praise be! Hallelujah! He is truly the Creator of the universe! Or maybe he's just David Blaine or something. One of the two. Do you know that David Copperfield thing where he walks through the Great Wall of China? Can you do that one?"
Now, raising Lazarus from the dead. That's god-level magic, for sure. But turning water into wine? That's just a party trick. Street magician stuff.
Actually, Lazarus is the sticking point. Because I had this idea a while back that I call "the Jesus challenge" and the simple idea is to recreate all of Jesus's "miracles" using conjuring tricks, modern technology or lateral thinking.
The tricky one is Lazarus. Though, you know, people are resuscitated from the dead often in hospitals - but doing it to order for fulfilling "the Jesus challenge" would be ethically unacceptable. Like asking someone if you can temporarily kill them to practice your CPR wouldn't really be a valid approach, in keeping with the fun nature of the challenge, I don't feel.
And modern medicine has made it so the blind could see. So that one is at least theoretically possible, but the idea of "the Jesus challenge" is that one person emulates all of the miracles of Jesus, so you'd have to have someone capable and legally qualified to do the surgery and stuff. That's another ethical stumbling block.
Mind you, per the rules of "the Jesus challenge", you only have to make it seem real and don't necessarily have to actually do it for real. Conjuring tricks are fully permitted. As long as your "witnesses" can testify, in written form, that they totally believe you really did "perform a miracle" to have Biblical-level evidence of your deeds - well, it was good enough for Jesus, so it's good enough to satisfy "the Jesus challenge".
Bonus points are awarded for dubiously "fulfilling the prophecies" that you're the Messiah.
Inventing a mad "census" that weirdly requires people to journey to their home towns, rather than just adding a "home town?" question to the census form - which never happened by the census authority's records, because no-one has ever run a census in such a logistically impractical fashion in all of human history - will earn you the bonus title of "King of Kings", where you get a novelty "crown of thorns" to wear.
But, no, seriously - as a magician like Matt could probably even demonstrate - the majority of these "miracles" could be easily emulated with a few simple conjuring tricks from a good street magician.
Which, I don't know about you, seems like a kind of trivial thing for living god kings to be doing in their spare time.
(Much less the contradiction of this. "But God doesn't provide evidence, as he wants you to have faith". Well, yeah, unless you were around in Bible times, then God was perfectly happy to intervene constantly, and very directly provide evidence - such as these conjuring tricks - to convince everyone that he was God. But now that we can record this stuff and scientifically test its validity... oh, suddenly God's not wanting to show off anymore. Isn't that odd?)

Nah, dead used to mean "their heart and breathing has stopped" but now we have machines that can help us deal with that, so dead has become "when the brain dies". By the biblical understanding of "dead" we've been resurrecting people for ages ;). On top of that anyone can learn how to bring people back under certain conditions in a few hours (cpr), so "miracles" can suck it.

"Observing" is a misleading term. The actual term is "interracting".
It's the interraction with a particle that collapses it to an eigenstate, bot an observation. It has nothing to do with consciousness. For all intents and purposes, when a photin hits an electron and transfers it its energy, the electron collapses the electron's wave function to a single eigenstate.
All of that said, this concept is a quantum concept and applies only at that scale. It does not apply to the classical scale which is where we humans are at.

Considering the quantum consciousness thing, it's an artifact from the ages of early quantum mechanics times when people were shocked by what they found, since it was so alien from everyday-scale physics. The observation part is now overwhelmingly believed to be, simply put, an interaction with some other particle, rather than necessitating being observed by a conscious mind.

He's wrong about quantum superposition. Quantum theory does away with points. It isn't that things are in all positions, it's that the idea of "position" is as meaningless as "10" when you only say "it's not base 10 maths". It definitely doesn't require a physical observer. The quantum particles interact and THAT is enough to collapse to a single state. It's called "Decoherence".

    • @markhackett2302
      @markhackett2302 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Pichkalu Pappita Well, it's hard to get your head around, so no diss to "not getting it". However, what IS blame worthy is taking some woomancer's claims about quantum theories (like Wu or Dinesh) as if they were actually supported by a theory they know they don't really understand.
