These guys were absolutely not afraid to change their sound. They were always unmistakably ZZ Top. And would have a song or two, at least, that goes back to their roots. Like "My Head's In Mississippi" from 1990.
@@justtere Sadly I get the feeling he might not play it if he knew...?! He's a tendency to being what us Brits call "po-faced" about that & similar subjects... (being a Christian is such "a pain in the arse" when it comes - no pun intended - to such things! ☹️)
Loudest concert I ever attended...ZZ Top 1990 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento. OMG. My ears are still ringing to this day. Amazing how much sound 3 guys can make...
Saw them 3x's. The Recycler tour with the stage made to look like a junkyard was fuckin awesome and my fave of the 3. 1990. One of the greatest 3 piece bands to ever do it. RIP Dusty 🤘😎
The first time I saw them on TV, I couldn't figure out why they weren't showing the rest of the band. I didn't realize 3 people could make that much Music.
I was the same way when I first saw them on TV. Kept trying to find the rest of their band and the day that I finally realized that the three of them was the whole d*mn band, it totally blew me away!
This band was one of those that used a video outlet, MTV, to strengthen its career. The 70s were massive enough for ZZ, Top with hits like Tush, La Grange and Jesus just Left Chicago. The 1983 LP Eliminator put the boys from Texas at a whole 'nother level. Besides Legs there was three other mammoth hits off here: Gimme All Your Lovin, Rough Boy and the ultra huge Sharp Dressed Man.
65 Gen X er here. They are legends. They also have their very own style . Love em. Check out some recent appearance of a feat. Song with the main guitarist. All masters. The boys from Texas. Welcome to cinema and a song. The Real MTV generation. When it started and ran the industry.
They became pop stars in the 80s, but the quality of their music (like this) took a huge hit. Check out their 70s stuff, albums like "Tres Hombres" or "Fandango." That was peak ZZ Top.
Yes, girls do love this song. I love all of their songs, especially the earlier stuff from the 70s, into the early 80s. I love Legs, too, from ‘84 or ‘85. I was going to g into 12th grade. They are awesome. That Lil’ Lo Band from Texas.
You gotta keep in mind, This was at a time when Mtv just launched, so artists felt like they needed to have the best video out there for the music. Same as content creators feeling like they're next video has to raise the bar! No different. Platforms changed but goals stayed the same.
Now go back and watch Back to the Future III and pay attention to the band at the town party. Watch them spin their guitars, just like this video. When it came out, it was super cool to see them in the movie. We knew they did Doubleback but we didn’t know they would be in the movie.
I’m 70 in a couple of days. When I was 17 in 1971 I bought my first car and drove into town like a king. As I crested the hill into my UK working class northern town. Z Z Top Boogie came on the analogue radio. I’d never heard them before… it was about 1971… My mind was suitably blown.
The guitar player, Billy Gibbons, toured with Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and they became good friends, Hendrix loved his playing and legend has it that Jimi said in an interview Billy was his favorite guitar player. And at the time Billy was just a teen from Texas.
I first saw these guys live at the old Surfers Paradise raceway, the opening bands were two big Australian groups, Rose Tattoo and the Angels. The whole concert was amazing, but after the Angels finished, these three guys with their fuzzy guitars got up and just blew everyone else away. The sound they made was incredible. The stage backdrop was the dashboard of the car as a spaceship, there was a giant gold Tutankhamen mask with a white cloth mountain which disappeared up Tut's nose. But the sound... the sound was just amazing. RIP Dusty, live on Billy and Frank.
And wasn't that a great time for music....some of the best Aussie Pub Rock bands. While there's some of today's stuff I like & am glad the women are getting a lit more airplay, the very late 70s ( even disco 😅) and the 80s really have my heart.
I haven't seen this music video since it was popular on MTV back in the day. Being a teenage boy at the time, yeah, this was a popular video, and we wanted the car, and the girl. I've always LOVED this song on the radio. Love it to this day, as with SO MANY EARLY 80'S SONGS.
The name (Zig Zags and Tops rolling papers) is an urban (suburban?) legend. Reverend Billy himself said it was named after their hero of the Blues ZZ Hill. ZZ Top is probably my all-time favorite band. They got funk, soul, the controlled chaos of distorted guitars and pinched harmonics-sublime. And that red ‘34 Ford was in many of my fantasies as a teenager lol
I saw ZZ Top later in life, at about 30? 32? I was glad I waited a bit because I don’t think I would have appreciated their epicness. Saw Boston around that time too I’m very thankful to have had a very diverse musical upbringing. Being a 90’s kid in Broward County FL, I was mainly into hip hop and “alternative” my mom listened to classic rock any time she could, my grandparents went to Juilliard and were very musical and into classical.
I can't speak (write_ for anyone else but me, but, yes, I loved ZZ Tops videos from this era. Reminds me of mild salsa: innocent, but with a very mild kick. This time frame when MTV was the place you wanted to be, especially after classes were over for the day from college.
Me and my late husband loved (I still do) ZZ Top especially the Eliminator album which the videos you have watched so far are from is great music for a road trip, their earlier music is quite different but also banging
Back in high school I had a 1985 GMC S15 with a 350 in it, also a decent stereo. Believe it or not the ZZ Top greatest hits cd back then had good base. They have a lot of legit songs.
ZZ Top was never my favourite band but I love them. When Dusty died (R. I. P) I did cry for what ever reason... A slightly forgotten gem is, IMHO, Pincushion. Check it out!
I'm an ugly guy, but I always had female friends and it always helped me immensely. For ZZ Top songs, check out 1973's two-part song... Waitin' For The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago.
i hope you get a chance to hear "I gotsat Get Paid" by ZZTop. Great sound, one of my favorites from them. Billy Gibbons said it's based on a rap song from the 1990's entitled '25 Lighters' by Lil' Keke and Fat Pat
You should treat yourself to at least one of the seven episodes of "Bones" that Billy Gibbons guest stars in as Angela's dad. To hear him talk after hearing him sing, you will blown away even more. Not to mention he is just a great character.
In Vacation the Hot Blonde is Billy Joel’s wife at the time Christie Brinkley. She’s in the video Uptown Girl. She was on the cover of 1980 Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Addition. Believe me, I remember it vividly.
To help you continue your ZZ Top journey, and to give you a more updated look at the band since you are a hip hop dude they kinda have a cover of 25 lighters. You should check that one out.
Legs was the third song in a sort of trilogy of music videos. "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man" were the other songs in this loose trilogy.
I never knew that about their name! I still use ZigZag papers😂 Love your reactions. Please please check out Linda Ronstadt singing “Down So Low” live from Germany. It’s breathtaking!! Happy Father’s Day 🌺✌️
When Dusty passed, I went online to see if i could get the key chain because they do sell it. I couldnt find it nowhere!! lol Everyone bought them out!!
Gimme All Your Lovin, same album, same girls. was the first single from the 1983 Eliminator album. Dont forget Sharp Dressed man. all seriously groovy!
BP, check this out. It shows that timeless stuff still gets its techniques from prior hits. If I remember correctly they also used quarters as guitar picks to get that heavier sound. Here’s a country musician using a technique for the sound in ZZTops Legs in one of his new songs… th-cam.com/users/shortsvhvQ_QP8qMg?feature=shared
In 2001 we were down in Escondido California for Christmas My mother-in-law lived there, it's in the San Diego area. And my husband and I were talking about going over to Tijuana and my mother-in-law and my sister-in-law's brother-in-law was freaking out saying some people don't get to come back getting back across the borders harder than you think so we didn't go😅
How do they do it? because they are MFing ZZTop! This is the second of your posts I have seen... Totally enjoying you seeing my child hood through your eyes.. Pretty damn cool isn't i!
Not sure if you’ve gone down the Nickelback rabbit hole yet (they’re a marmite band - personally I like them) but if you do you’ll find their song Rockstar features Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. Oh and it has to be the official video otherwise it’s not worth it
So the hot blonde that Chevy Chase was looking at was Christie Brinkley. Fun note Christie Brinkley was married to Billy Joel oh crazy times the '80s awesome awesome music
A little out of left field, but a really fun video is Trace Atkins “Hot Mama” about still finding his wife attractive after a bunch of kids and stress, etc.
These guys were absolutely not afraid to change their sound. They were always unmistakably ZZ Top. And would have a song or two, at least, that goes back to their roots. Like "My Head's In Mississippi" from 1990.
"Brown Sugar" 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"Certified Blues"
🤘🤘
(c'mon!)
R.I.P. Dusty Hill
🙏😢❤️
Waitin On The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago & Blue Jean Blues are Seriously Badass ❤
My favs along with La Grange
Hot Blue and Righteous, Mexican Blackbird
Great songs
Waiting on the Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago is an amazing track. BP HAS to do that one.
Yes!!
That red car is the Eliminator 😊 Billy Gibbons still has it and every once in a while you'll catch it driving around Houston 😊
She grabbed the only guy that treated her right from the beginning. I think that's really the best part of this video.
THIS!
Pearl necklace is a very good ZZ Top song on all the radio stations
I love String of Pearls. Can you imagine if BP played it without knowing what it means?
Or, "Tube Snake Boogie" 🐍 🤔 🙄 😏 🤣
@@justtere
Sadly I get the feeling he might not play it if he knew...?! He's a tendency to being what us Brits call "po-faced" about that & similar subjects... (being a Christian is such "a pain in the arse" when it comes - no pun intended - to such things! ☹️)
I love how ZZ Top deploys the pretty girls to come to help a girl in need of defense.
And she rescues her prince, too!
Loudest concert I ever attended...ZZ Top 1990 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento. OMG. My ears are still ringing to this day. Amazing how much sound 3 guys can make...
I saw a twisted sister and Dokken at radio City music Hall. Dokken was so loud everybody walked out. It was painful to listen
Saw them 3x's. The Recycler tour with the stage made to look like a junkyard was fuckin awesome and my fave of the 3. 1990. One of the greatest 3 piece bands to ever do it. RIP Dusty 🤘😎
I saw ZZTop in Atlanta Ga., 2 times, Fist time concert was Afterburner and it was awesome
The first time I saw them on TV, I couldn't figure out why they weren't showing the rest of the band. I didn't realize 3 people could make that much Music.

These guys are the real deal when it comes to rock and roll. They are INCREDIBLE!
They became pop stars in the 80s, but the quality of their music (like this) took a huge hit. Check out their 70s stuff, albums like "Tres Hombres" or "Fandango." That was peak ZZ Top.
ZZ Top .. the all time favorite music video on MTV !!! Yes , saw these guys in concert too . AMAZING

As you know, this band is special. Try playing some of their older stuff. Lots of blues influence, and lots of great songs.
The guitar player, Billy Gibbons, toured with Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and they became good friends, Hendrix loved his playing and legend has it that Jimi said in an interview Billy was his favorite guitar player. And at the time Billy was just a teen from Texas.

I was a Sr in high school when this album came out. ZZ Top videos fueled many a teenage boy's dreams.

I saw them in concert a month ago and it was great! They still got it! The ultimate "cool cats"
Love them! One of my favorite songs is Rough Boy. The video is a space themed truck stop with a futuristic version of the car.
Texas never disappoints when it comes to blues/rock bands.
Me and my late husband loved (I still do) ZZ Top especially the Eliminator album which the videos you have watched so far are from is great music for a road trip, their earlier music is quite different but also banging

Bro. When this album came out, and the tour that followed, Ive never seen so many red leather mini-skirts, at a concert, before. Fire!
the way they swing their guitars to the left and then to the right, they got from Talking Heads, who they opened for in the very early days.
Luv ZZ...Saw them 3 times in concert. My husband's favorite, he passed away in 2001. BP, to me you just honored him.❤
Jeana Tomasino was the brunette Playmate of the year in what still might be my favorite music video of all time!
ZZ Top was never my favourite band but I love them. When Dusty died (R. I. P) I did cry for what ever reason... A slightly forgotten gem is, IMHO, Pincushion. Check it out!

Not a ZZ Top song, but Hot for Teachers by Van Halen is probably my favorite 80's video and song. Awesome guitar solo too
Check out:
I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
Tush

Oh to be in high school again where I was when Eliminator was released ... oh 80s music ... 70s kicked ass too
i hope you get a chance to hear "I gotsat Get Paid" by ZZTop. Great sound, one of my favorites from them. Billy Gibbons said it's based on a rap song from the 1990's entitled '25 Lighters' by Lil' Keke and Fat Pat
Cheap Sunglasses needs to be next. It is kinda the bridge between 70's ZZ and 80's ZZ.
Second best 3-man band ever.
Oh the 80's, I miss you!
I remember seeing The Eliminator at the World of Wheels show when it came to Evansville, IN back in '84!
We used to hang out in a bar and turn the TV to MTV and crank up ZZTop!!
Completely 80s style!! But when I just hear the song I'm amazed that I never appreciated how good they were then. I miss 80s music.
Another 80s classic
You should treat yourself to at least one of the seven episodes of "Bones" that Billy Gibbons guest stars in as Angela's dad. To hear him talk after hearing him sing, you will blown away even more. Not to mention he is just a great character.
In Vacation the Hot Blonde is Billy Joel’s wife at the time Christie Brinkley. She’s in the video Uptown Girl.

You ought to try out some of their older blues stuff. Fool For Your Stockings is a good one...
Saw them as opening act for Alice Cooper in 1973 in Ann Arbor. They BLEW me away and stole the show!
Seeing them in Concert in Washington State in September!!!
ZZ - antidote for when life gets too serious 😎
Howdy from Texas we love our TEXAS BOYS

When Dusty passed, I went online to see if i could get the key chain because they do sell it. I couldnt find it nowhere!! lol Everyone bought them out!!
ZZ top was in the movie "Back to the Future III" as their ancestors
Imagine being in high school when this came out! 😮😅 Whew!
I remember wearing the little socks with the heels in the 80’s. I was 15, so my heels weren’t that high :-)
G'Damn I loved the eighties
The red car WAS real and Billy took it on tour.. it was spotted by hundreds cruising North Ave
In Grand Junction , co.. mid 80s.
Gimme All Your Lovin, same album, same girls. was the first single from the 1983 Eliminator album. Dont forget Sharp Dressed man. all seriously groovy!
ZZ Top cashed in hard on the MTV trend.......
the car actually belongs to the lead singer. It was part of his collection long before the video was created.
BP, check this out. It shows that timeless stuff still gets its techniques from prior hits. If I remember correctly they also used quarters as guitar picks to get that heavier sound.

A little out of left field, but a really fun video is Trace Atkins “Hot Mama” about still finding his wife attractive after a bunch of kids and stress, etc.
Love your reactions. Please react to the group, “Blood Sweat and Tears”. The song Spinning Wheel or anything else by them.
Check out all of ZZ Top cars awesome collection
