- Such an iconic song of the 90s, Liar by the Henry Rollins has a message that is still applicable today and maybe more. Our audience was really excited for Alexis to hear this and here is a spoiler, she loved it. She could identify with the theme and tells of how it happened to her.

Oh this brings back memories. I was with RCA when this was released. One of my best friends at the time was the Regional Promotions Manager for Imago, the label Henry was signed to at the time. Imago was founded by Terry Ellis had been with Chrysalis before hand.
wow guys! some great analytics here, no one digs that far, best reaction channel out here on youtube! keep up!
I haven't heard this in decades, I forgot how good it was.
I heard it on Beavis and Butt-Head and I loved it almost as much as Beev did
Henry Rollins. Great frontman. Great actor. Great all round person.
Absolute banger of a track this. timeless lyrics and Hank as a cop is utterly terrifying 😂
Funny as it may be, he’s someone I think I could trust with a badge. I’m plenty happy with the professional path he took, though.
@@0okamino 100% a stand up guy but back in his thick necked bench pressing days there, he really looked like the kind of cop you don't want stepping into you! 😂
Henry Rollins is a very insightful and introspective person but is also an incrediblely aware person. He truly is the point of punk. Talk about and expose the oppressors of this world, whoever they may be.
I love how Henry dresses up in outfits of those figures that we have been told to trust ✌️
Whoa, when this video first came out we were utterly blown away, especially those that only knew Henry from the punk days and then he forms this rip-roaring band that pulverized everything. This brings back great memories, and Rollins is still out there doing his thing, traveling, living a truly exceptional life in his many different endeavors.
One of my best concert memories is Rollins Band
ROLLINS BAND 🔥 🔥 📛
I don't think I've clicked on a reaction vid faster. Love Burch singing along....lol. I was in a band rehearsal and we were just chatting and my guitarist said something that turned into him busting into this song so we all just jumped in for a few bars. I miss those days.
I'm glad she was able to hear the song for what it is on the first listen. Henry is actually an upstanding dude in real life and this song is pretty much a warning to people about how pathological liars manipulate you.
I saw him open up for the Beastie Boys in 1993. It was a little place that used to be a skating rink. Great show. Thanks for sharing.
So glad this one popped up! The discussion you two had afterwards was awesome. Clearly, it resonated with Alexis - and that makes for great content.
This is my first time hearing the artist and song and I will be checking out more. I think this was your best reaction that I've seen, the dialogue between you 2 and your synopsis and breakdown of the song was spot on. Great reaction. 🙏✌️
check out the track Low S. O. next, similar, better music, great message. autobiographical.
Thank you DD, I learn something new about her every time we record :)
I really loved the Henry Rollins era Black Flag, but I also got into his band and this was one of my favorite songs back then...
Henry Rollins can even act; should check out the movies "Johnny Mnemonic" for younger Rollins or "He Never Died" for older but just as buff Rollins.
Or his best role as A.J. Weston on Sons of Anarchy. Man he was such an asshole character on that show. You couldn't help but love it!!
I loved him as the Newport Beach cop in The Chase.
@@red-stapler574Yes! Haven’t seen that for many many years but it was fun. Good call.
Rollins has a bit part in "Heat" as well.
@@red-stapler574Flea and Anthony Kedis were great in the chase too
Henry Rollins is the man-just love him so much! His spoken word performances are probably my favorites of his. 🤘🏻❤♾️
Ive been a fan since he first joined Black Flag back in the early 80's and absolutely love his spoken word stuff!! Henry's on another level man!!
This was so ahead of its time.
Was never a real big fan of this song or video, but having seen it and listened to your comments after the video was over, I gained a different appreciation for it, so thank you.
You react to Rollins. I hit the Like button. Naturally, it’s a done deal. 🏴
I love that he says “I promise” at the end. Hits the nail on the head one last time. That’s pretty much the limit of honesty for which the kind of person he’s talking about is really capable.
I think the band won a Grammy for it.
this is the song that I think EVERY father needs sit their daughters down and show this to them when they are 12-13 years old
Not just daughters (but definitely daughters). I think the way Rollins lays it out provides a great example for anyone who will really listen: Do not fall for what he’s talking about, and do not _be_ what he’s talking about.
i think there are about 200 other things a father needs to do before that... have you seen what girls are now?.... being taken advantage of by a guy is the least of their problems.... we are literally raising little monsters with braids
Henry is a good actor as well. I also remembering him doing a stand up. Cool movie he was in was Demolition man as the rebel leader.
Mr Rollins also does public speaking. Always entertaining!
Been awhile since I heard this. This goes well along with the story you told on the outset. My favorite song named Liar is from Lovebites.
I love Henry Rollins.. Black Flag My War , Damage
HES a scary man his face expression is iconic
Henry cracks me up… this was a great song back when
The dirt on the face was his perfectly clean personna getting dirty. Its a filmmaker trick
I always thought of it as the dirt being what’s really there the whole time, and it’s the clean, friendly face that’s the disguise being wiped away, rather than covered up.
I used to have this video on VHS taped off TV. It's an amazing song that I still have on my playlist today. Great breakdown too.
The Weight album was phenomenal. Song like Disconnect, Shine and Divine. And the follow up album Come In And Burn was also great. Great musicians as well. Henry Rollins sang on The Laughing Man In The Devil Mask from Iommi. The legendary Black Sabbath guitarist did a few solo albums. The first one with a lot of great vocalists was great
That Unsolved Mysteries episode about Henry Rollins and his friend still gives me cold chills.
The spoken word bit he did about it was even heavier. (Death of Joe Cole) - As was the one he did about John Macias
Thank you so so much for this. Henry has been such a massssssive influence on my life. Whether as a young skate rat or a father. His truth is universal. More people need to follow people like Hank.
I was lucky enough to see the Rollins Band at the Reading Festival back in the early '90s. Absolutely phenomenal.
Great vid, great reaction.
That 6 string bass is so good!
Rollins moved here to my hometown of Nashville last year and have seen him at a local record store shopping for records. He's just as intense shopping for records as he is in his videos and on the stage. LOL! I don't approach celebrities because they just want to live their lives like the rest of us. However a friend of mine has a daughter who works at a Starbucks and says that he comes in often and is a very nice customer.
message of the song and video
the devil is a liar
Henry is a really smart man/artist
Right on 👍 ❤… I think she would like suicidal tendencies institutionalized also because of the meaning!!! And the song been in movies 🍿 like Iron Man!!! ✌️
Rollins' words, spoken and written, have always spoken to me. So when this song came out, I originally thought he was referring to his own work and how he was lying to all of us as his fans. Made sense at the time.
Henry Rollins is an icon and should be required reading for high schools.
As I'm watching the video, I've forgotten half the great comments I had. Fantastic reaction!! As a Rollins band fan...I didn't think the reaction would be favorable. Rollins is a flavor, I think few appreciate. But,things got interesting!! You guys........love ya!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
This album is epic...drummer knows drummer, band is great
Sublime 👏👏👏👏👏
The fact he impersonates the liar character just reinforces the message.
If you do spoken word stuff you should do “ I Know You”. Back in the day it really spoke to my teen angst.
"I Know You" is so powerful. I love that piece.
Love me some Henry
Speaking as a lifelong fan of Black Flag, Rollins Band was the best thing Henry Rollins ever did musically
Henry Rollins, the absolute king of spoken word.
More of fan of his spoken word cd’s. Meet him after a show at OSU in the 90’s. Cool dude. It was funny that I accidentally came across him doing a narrative for a nature show.
Rollins for prez. 😂😂😂❤. The dirt accumulated is called FILTH. 😂😂
Try "Tearing" from The End Of Silence, very high energy. The stuff on his face in this video would likely be ash as he comes back from "Hell" into "Real", getting sootier and dirtier every time. The album version of this song is a little longer with slightly different lyrics; there's a live version at an English festival where instead of the regular intro he basically gaslit most of the audience to amuse himself ("I'm the guy with the mic, and way louder than all of you").
I wish Rollins never quit music. He's like a root canal for your brain.
There was another song named Creep by Stone Temple Pilots . You could listen to it also.
Been a long time. Love that song!
Hah I remember when this came out years ago. Great fuckin tune. Henry is an interesting soul.
For a while, in the 90s, after Nirvana’s big break, you could see punk rock on heavy rotation on MTV, along with all sorts of independent releases. We had no idea at the time what a short-lived anomaly that was.
His spoken word stuff shows just how intelligent and well spoken he is. The man is affable is hell, too. You wouldn't expect it, with the reputation Black Flagg had. But Rollins was absolutely straight laced, as it turns out. Just had a hell of a temper in his youth.
Beavis and Buttheads favorite singer 😅
The sleep of reason produces monsters. Dig your Goya print and this is a classic track and video from Henry, I remember laughing when it came out and the Beavis and Butthead bit:)
Thank you Sean. Think you are only the 2nd or 3rd person to recognize it in the 13 months we've been at this
I saw Rollins Band at the Trocadero in Philadelphia for the "End Of Silence" tour. I'm guessing it was 92 or so.
Damn!!! It's been a while since I've seen this one!!!! So good and accurate.
I love Henry's spoken word shows. I've had the honor of seeing a couple live and I highly recommend it, it'll change your life.
Peace
My ex-wife always hated this song. She's my ex because it turned out she was a liar and a cheater. Now every time I hear this song I laugh at the thought of me playing it just because I thought it rocked while she was sitting there secretly feeling called out. 😆
A little singing and a little spoken word
Just realized Henry was educating people on Narcissism. I was to young to understand it 30 years ago, but this explains the narc personality to a tee. 😂
Love that song and it’s sad I know people like that
Def! The spoken word!
Legend
It’s how a lot of marriages go. One with dark secrets which they cover up with lies.
Rollins' cover of 'Ghost Rider' is awesome.
This song is Sooooo good.
I have a list(about 300/400 songs)of what i consider to be the best songs of all time, that i keep in my head and ill never forget. And this song is one of them......
Wait...you skated around that time? Me too, what kind of board did you have? I had a Gator board(diamond logo) with Thunder trucks and Minirat wheels. Then i got a Gonz 3 face Popsicle shape board.
Henry Rollins also played a cop in a "Speed" 1997 movie
I resently made my therapist watch this Rollins vid as i could cram 7 years of psychological abuse in to 4 mins instead of 10 sessions to explain the crazy in lived in with him..
She was actually blown away by it and i let henry play the roll of my ex .
My psycho is still stalking me 5 years after we spilt and im working on me now , not him thanks to this song/ vid clip as my ex psycho wants to make sure i will never move on but I'm doing the work and old punk chicks have a bit more steel to them.. I'll be fine.
Rollins nailed what its like to be in a covert nasscistic abusive relationship, right down to the love bomb stage at the start.
Sadly this song is more relevant in this day and age than when it was released and there is alot of the younger generation can take from this.
The world has become more nasisitic as a whole since the threat of being knocked out for being an asshole has become "so un woke" .
Henry is so intense.
At least he's honest about it
I remember turning the volume way up every time this was on Mtv. Can we have the old Mtv back? Pleeaaassse??
saw him open for Ozzy. let me just say. he was such a snoozer. I took a nap during the show LOL
Great video 🤘
TY
Trauma a person experiences from past relationships tend to color future relationships.
HR is the original homelander omg
Ok.. stumbled on you two. Subscribed…and you should do Living Color, Cult of Personality, if you haven’t yet.
It would be cool if you checked out "Disconnect" by Rollins Band. It is another great video. The song is also lyrically very good and chock full of analogies and irony.
Introduce Alexis to Scorpions 🦂
We did th-cam.com/video/4ZLWYO5641M/w-d-xo.html
I think of Beavis and Butthead watching the Liar video. Classic
This song is like the beaten step child of ‘Sober’ by tool. “….I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile. …..”👊🏽⚡️
The album version is longer and has some other deeper lyrics. I remember him performing this at the '94 Grammys in a full suit dressed like a groom. I'm pretty sure the first 6 rows of people sh*t themselves when he got to the chorus. LoL!
Coolest dad everrre
You should check out the Rollins Band “On The Day” for another killer track.
Yngwie Malmsteen has a song named Liar , it's very good 🤟 off Trilogy
“Whoa he looks PISSED!” Beavis & Butthead
I only know this guy from movies/tv
Listen to Thirsty And Miserable by Black Flag. It's a sarcastic hardcore song about alcohol addiction
Девушка красотка супер клёвая
The way she looks, her face froze partially from my POV, she must have met some liars before who now came back to her mind. And how naive she was.
What would have been really interesting is if she talked about it after the video ended, and shared stories, that would have been great.................hmmmmmm
The 90s had some really dark subject single word song name titles:
Liar
Creep
Loser
Scatman
Then there's the king of them all - I Hate Myself and I Want to Die
Hope ya'll will react to Distance by Mammoth WHV which I Wolfgang group it's a tribute he wrote this song for his dad Eddie
Please watch the Beavis and Butthead clip of them watching the video!
Alexis looks like Linda Cardellini. Very pretty :)
you should checkout his spoken word stuff funny and heartbreaking
I had heard that he didn't like the police much because he and a friend who was a member of the Sonic Youth road crew were robbed at gunpoint and his friend was shot and killed and when the police came to investigate they treated him like total crap
Angriest front man in rock history
Not sure I'd ever show this to a woman. If you ever had to apologize for something a fictional character said, imagine this shit...
show her Low S. O. ! better song than this, tho this is great.
