I am from Finland and don't know how they measure happiness there. I find the country silent, depressing, and very difficult to talk to people. Your country on the other hand I found very welcoming, socially warm, inviting, and beautiful in so many ways I can't write them all down here.

You are welcomed because you are a foreigner and if I assume, you might be white, you have certain benefits which the locals with their inferiority complex will provide you, they will be nicer to you, more welcoming and etc. because of the colonial mentality still prevailing amongs the population.

As a foreigner, I appreciate the honesty in your video's. I am also married to a Filipina and you confirm many of the things I know.
Even though much of the Philippine Government was fashioned after the US, there are still, to this day, a lot of laws and policies that make no sense.
In many ways, the Philippines, as a country and people, are about 50 years behind the US and wrought with corruption .. but I love the people.

I am an American Expat living here in the Philippines for over 3 years. I have an SRRV visa and my Filipina wife and I bought a property/house west of Tagaytay.. To me, the best thing about the Philippines is it's people. Most of the people I have as friends are Philipinos. Yes, the traffic here is horrible, that is why I no longer drive here. My wife drive me or we hire one of our friends to drive me. We chose to live here because we are higher in elevation and it is cooler here.. We don't have a problem with flooding and Typhoons are not as bad as in many other areas. We love it here. Tagaytay has a good Medical Center with good Doctors and it doesn't cost much to see one. We love it here.

In regards to your comments about health insurance and treatment in the Philippines, another TH-camr named The Filipina Pea did an interview with an insurance agent in either Dumagetti or Cebu. He stated that the best health insurance that you can get in the Philippines is Pacific Cross and the annual cost is between $12K and $15K. First of all, congratulations on getting to over 10 thousand subscribers, your channel is growing pretty fast.
Lots of good and honest advice as always with your shared experiences. I’ve only visited Manila three times and each time there was an issue with taxi drivers. One time I got out of the cab when he stopped at a red light. I left the door open until I got my case out of the boot. I have also had it in Cebu also, but only a couple of times out of many taxi rides. You do need to be aware of the scams, but that’s the same wherever you go. Healthcare was the main reason I’ve never moved there full time, but even in the UK now, the healthcare service is not like it was, and has long waiting lists.

    • @TheWallReports

I had a taxi scam attempt in Cebu back in 2019. This was my 1st ever visit to the Philippines. I stayed two weeks; I spent 1 week in Cebu and a week on Davao City. With the exception of that one instance the visit and taxi trips were great. Anyways, it began with me flagging down a taxi. After entering the cab, the driver ask did I mind if he turn off the meter? I replied I prefer he kept it on. He said where I was going would be cheaper if the meter was off. I told him I did not have a problem w/the metered rate. So he kept insisting on turning off the meter. I told him never mind and got out of the taxi. I flagged another taxi - an honest driver who took me where I wanted to go. Upon arrival I looked at the meter and paid him double what was on the meter. He immediate said I was paying too much money. I said, no it is the correct rate. I told him what happened with the previous taxi. As I was exiting his taxi I told him, because he was honest and did NOT try to scam me like the other taxi, I am paying him the his [the metered rate] fair and the fair of the other taxi because honesty does pay. Have a good day sir! He was stunned.
Weeks before my trip I did some research and learned of this meter scam so when it started to go down I know what was happening. At that time this scam was largely perpetuated by the taxis in Manila. I see it has spread and become more common in Cebu now.

Rubeauti listening to your negatives has reinforced my desire to live in a province area when I retire to the Philippines. Thankfully I am still in good health and have never smoked so I see smoking bans as a positive not a negative. I have ridden motorbikes all of my life so I believe owning a motorbike in the province will be ok and you said there are less corrupt traffic officers in the provinces 🙂. I have been looking at long term rentals and they are so cheap in the province that I would not need to buy property. In terms of longer visits before deciding to live there my plan is to do 3 month visits to different areas before deciding which one to settle in. Thank you so much for being honest about the downsides of living in PI but I still believe that the people and culture make it a very desirable retirement destination with a SRRV. God Bless.

@20:50 the garbage can actually be a good thing if you think about for a second. I own a smelter so I can melt metal, I'd take all of the cans then melt them to turn the aluminum into duralumin. Duralumin is a combination of certain metals and it's used to make car parts and airplane parts. You can sell that for good money. The plastic I would heat up to turn into cups to sell. If you get that much trash on a regular basis I would go around collecting it and profiting on it 🤑

My neighborhood flooded last September during a hurricane. 🌀 Taxi drivers all over are known for being questionable, which is why Uber and Lyft are so popular. Dog 💩 in most big cities. Bad drivers. 😡 And even though the hospital doesn't make you pay up front, you may get a huge bill later, especially if you have insurance. It seems to me that wherever you are attitude is everything. 😁

You have obviously never been to the Philippines...as is probably the case with most people leaving their brilliant comments, otherwise you'd know that there's zero comparison between a third-world country and the US in pretty much anything, and that in particula is the case-in-point with the Phlippines. It is exactly as bad as described here X100...and yes, it is also a beautiful place, particularly when/if you get to live in your little western bubble, but it has a long way to go when it comes to the filth, traffic, infra-structure, poverty, sanitation in hospitals etc etc etc, and you can't ignore it unless you stay within the resort/gated community. Go there with an open mind and low expectations and accept it as is; then you might have a chance. Cheers

To me a reasonably working infrastructure is important, a clean environment, and a climate where I don't need constant showers due to excessive sweating. Those typhoons are also destructive and unpredictable. It's not for the faint of heart. The corruption would be very hard to tolerate as well for someone who has not had to deal with that their whole life.

Excellent informational vlog, I've experienced most of what you say apart from typhoons!! Yes PH does have it's downsides, where doesn't? But it's major saving grace is the people of PH, even in the worst of times they are resillient, always a smile and always willing to help where they can. I'll be retiring to PH end 2024, already bought the land to build our house (in my future wifes name of course 🤣🤣) a little place called Concepcion in Tarlac 😁one thing you forgot to mention was the dammed mosquitos 🤣🤣

    Miss Rubeati,
Thank you for sharing your experience, an eye opener for many..
Q: have you considered moving to middle size city?? I was in Dumaguete and except for the traffic I loved it there..you are correct, no traffic lights, no stop signs, it is actually amazing more accidents don't happen...I was in Dumaguete last month, and as bad luck happens, I landed in the emergency room on my first day arriving to the Philippines...I stayed at the Rovira Hotel, which I give it 4 stars, was excellent, room service was great, and so was the food..I order food to my room or by the pool all day...anyway, since my medical emergency happened late after 10pm, there were no taxis in the area so the front desk called the ambulance for me...the ride to the hospital was free, though I tipped them for the ride...I don't recall the name of the hospital, CDC I think?? but was told it was a private hospital so there were only a few people waiting ahead of me..I was seen within 20 minutes of arrival and was not asked to pay in advance..the cost was about $120.00 US and was seen by a doctor not a nurse..after I was attended, still no taxis, was after midnight so the ambulance gave me a ride to the hotel..ha,ha,ha..
In Dumaguete there isn't much trash, city is fairly clean...it rains about 3 times per week but usually short periods...the longer lasting rain typically happens at night...after 3 weeks there I became acclimated didn't feel so bad..for city travel I used trikes so the cost was about 40 pesos almost anywhere in town..
I also read that Dumaguete is considered one of the top 5 destinations in the world to retire..
3 weeks later I went to the same hospital for a follow-up and received good treatment by the same doctor..
On 2 occasions the taxi drivers tried to charge me a lot more so I passed on their service and waited on a trike instead...as an investor I've earned enough money where I'm not worried about cost, but don't like it when people want to take advantage of me simple bc I'm a foreigner.....thank you again for sharing your experience with us..
I'm a huge fan of your vlogs..
May the Lord bless and protect you, as I can sense your kind heart..

Duma medical is a joke. I don't even want to waste my time explaining why. Try having an accident there and see what happens. I know too much about it all.

When I visited the Philippines in 2019 my fiance turn on Google Map from point A to point B and Google would tell us which way to turn. A couple of taxis that really irritated them. As long as we had that GPS talking telling us where to go we had no problems of course that was on mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu

Hi Rubeauti Chris here. The reason you have kidney stones is because of the water. Water that is high in calcium and minerals will cause kidney stones the best thing to do is to drink apple cider vinegar it will break down the kidney stones. start drinking water that is not so high in calcium and minerals. I used to drink distilled water but the problem with distilled water is it's acidic it's not 7.5 on the pH scale the best thing you can do is add apple cider vinegar to your water that should help but you should take at least a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar everyday to help break those kidney stones down

Sorry to correct you, AGAIN. I know I'm obnoxious ;-) You can't catch a cold from changing weather or cold weather.. Rain and cold only make people cram together in malls and other places and it is the closeness to others that transfer the virus, not the temperature or any other old beliefs. We have those here too, still.

Best place to live if you have any health issues, in my opinion, is Baguio. Baguio is the most healthy city in the Philippines. And, unless you want the REALLY hot weather, Baguio is great in so many ways. I liked living in Cebu, but I loved living in Baguio, and my wife and I have discussed retiring in Baguio at some time.

There is a good hospital in Baguio. And it’s now just 4 to 5 hour drive to Manila. Just pick a good neighborhood. The nearest beaches are a short 1.5 hour drive in La Union and Pangasinan.

I am going to ck out Baguio the only downside I read was that it ranked pretty high on pollution, no worse than Cebu though or Manila.

Baguio is a great suggestion, especially if one is seeking a medium sized city. My fiancèe is a Kankana-ey girl from Besao, which in higher and further inland but reasonably close. She and I will be living there.

Couple of the issues i think were miss are the Brown-outs from the increasing Electrical demands. I Kinda like them because i am odd, it allows me to get out , do some taichi or yoga at the park, visit w/ family, go shopping at SM. Think Bacolod and Iloilo isn't bad on traffic and Iloilo is a very clean city. ( also almost 40% less cheaper to live there than Manila.)
Is the land the same as when I have my citizenship ?

Great advice Rubeauti! After just visiting Davao and Tagum City for the first time, I experienced many things that you point out in this video. After first arriving in Davao, I asked the taxi driver if he used the meter. He said yes and took me to my accommodation. After unloading my luggage, I asked how much the meter was. He said no meter, give me 500 peso!! So I went and looked at the meter it was only 184 peso. So I gave him 200 peso and walked away. I had previously spent time in Thailand and there taxi drivers try exactly the same thing..😁
