New to your channel and loving the content!! I backed the X-Bows Kickstarter 2.5 years ago and we should be receiving our keyboards "very soon." Sooooo excited! It looks beautiful! The magnetic numpad connector was the most difficult piece for them to manufacture, so it's nice to see it in action.

Great video. Lots of detail and good review.
Does the X-Bow software have to be installed on a PC for the macros to work? Or can I create macros on one PC with the software and then use the keyboard and the macros on another PC without installing the software?

Thanks for the review. I'm currently an MS 4000 keyboard user and love the layout, but I need something with backlighting ... this keyboard appears to have backlighting but NOT the actual face/letter/numbers are lit?? I often work in low light conditions (software engineer) and sometimes I need a little help locating at Function key accurately ... how effective is the "lighting" on this keyboard such that it would be easy to see an F10 key vs. F11 key in low light?

hi Brainbean! Great review! I purchased the Knight Plus but have issues with the number pad - the lighting is stuck on rainbow and the RGB pattern does not change/match the keyboard. I've been told by X-bows support that the number pad lighting never matches the keyboard and must be controlled independently!? Was/is this your experience? It's a very bizarre programming choice if that's the case - hope to hear from you, thanks!

I use a Kinesis Advantage 2 at home and the X-Bows Knight Plus at work. I got the Knight for work because of the silent brown keys, otherwise I would use the Advantage.
I chose the Knight specifically because of the ortholinear keys, split space bar, and because the keys can be remapped. I’ve been typing on Ortholinear keyboards for ten years. I can’t stand regular staggered keys. I immediately remapped one of the space bar keys to backspace, the middle shift to enter, and the middle control to delete. This mimics the layout on the Advantage. I also remapped the whole keyboard to Dvorak on a separate layer.
I’ve been using the Knight for a year now. It’s been great 👍

I've been sending a day or two looking at reviews on the latest version and only found this recently. As a developer with a broken keyboard i need to take the plunge soon.
Would like to know if their macOS compatibility has improved as older versions reportedly had compatibility issues stock until updated from a windows machine.
Also, wondering if the software supports a lot of the QMK stuff where you can setup hold a key and do something vs pressing normal.
    Thanks for this! @sheldon_hull

      > Only Windows is supported in the current version of the driver. Support for Mac and Linux will be developed soon.

My concern with this one is actually reaching the middle keys with anything. Like lining my hands up so that the index finger is on the j key (which I noticed you were not doing in any of the typing done in this video), that's pretty far to reach for the enter key.

Good day.. I was surprised by this keyboard and not expecting that i could love this even will spent time adjusting on its layout. I pasued the video to see the layout properly and i think it's good for fps gaming because the right part buttons is not that much usable in fps games.
One i really like on this is the aluminum case and i think it's the top quality case for all of the keyboards..
Question: do they sell keycaps of this? Like the big alt and other keys?
Thanks for this another great video and for the chance to have this kind of keyboard..

    • @TomCarlson
      @TomCarlson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I've used both. The X-Bows was easier to get used to because the keys to the right are in pretty much the same locations. The Ergodox is symmetrical, so the non-alpha keys need to be moved around to all fit, or get put into layers. I got back up to speed on the X-Bows in a week or so. I never really did on the Ergodox.

I’ve been running the X-BOWS Knight Plus for 2 months now and have the following comments
    * Lack of insert, home, & end keys, I’m a mainframe programmer and have had to use the numeric keypad to have these keys.
    * key pad really needs the num-lock off values printed on the key pad
    * unlit keys, the background lighting is cool, but I frequently work at night need to look down for some key combinations, except I can’t because the keyboard is too dark and you
    * there’s no indicator lights for Caps Lock, Num Lock & scroll Lock, setting of all of these keys can cause errors and need to re-type.
Beyond these issues the keyboard works well and is comfortable working 8-10 hours a day.
