Was doing well on this fight without runelord until I got to end phase and she whipped out damned warcry that one skill wiped out an entire overhealed party lol.
I know right. I used to think it sucked but after using it against Miguel I realized it’s awesome power. Now I make sure to always have a hunter on my team.
RicoLen1 I just beat it as my first one. It's not easy.... I had boss constantly poisoned, and spent a lot of gold summoning the 30,000 gold mercenary. Alphyn had hunter, oberic apothecary, tessa thief and Theron was warrior
I found a video for the sorcerer that shows how to beat it without elite classes, and it's not too bad either. Once you have the sorcerer the warbringer goes down like the prom queen on prom night.
Probably the easiest one is sorcerer - that was the one I did first. The easiest way to do it is to have someone with the dancer divine skill and a cleric, everything else doesn't matter. After turn 5 passes (when Divine Majesty which prevents buffs wears off), use the Dancer divine skill on the cleric and then make the cleric use the magic reflection skill on everyone. The boss should end up doing a fuckton damage to itself and even breaking itself, leaving a lot of time to refresh the reflective veils and get damage in. This is a sort of cheesy way though ;w;
That strategy worked for me very good. I only took damage at the start of the battle. And a short time after the start of the battle, I used the Transfer Rune (with Tressa as the Runelord) and then boosted "Sidesteps" over and over again. At this moment, all 4 characters were practically invincible since Winnehild only attacks physically. Nothing could hit me anymore. And of course I used some elemental runes to damage her even more. So practically, similar to what you showed in this video. Just without a sorcerer. At the end, I defeated her without any problems. Thanks to you.
Very good strategy. I even let Winnehild use her strongest attack (the one that hits 6 times on everyone) and it did nothing because I had stacked Sidestep so many times.
I beat it with: Theif/H’aanit (patience + debuffing helped a lot, lowering attack ASAP) Dancer/Ophilia (pretty much just used her staff + healing/reviving) Runelord/Tressa (Speaks for itself except she rarely attacked, mostly shared sidesteps as much as possible) Scholar/Alfyn (Staff, concocting BP, empoison, x2 ice/fire, revive...) All were level 49-50.
Nice strategy! This was the first hidden job boss I tackled, so my main strategy was drawing attention to olberic so he could soak up single target damage, then while that went on, set up for maximum damage output for the rest of characters before her multiattacks came out lol. The amount of turns I took were a lot, but in the end worth it!
I've just beaten the boss, and a few things were vital to win. Hired help -> Mercenary (merchant job) to boost your party's physical defense Shackle Foe (thief job) to reduce physical attacks by 33%, Incite (warrior job) to provoke the boss. Leghold Trap (hunter job) to prevent the attacks before your turn Equip your warrior with Conscious Stone and Antidote Stone, get as much physical defense as you can. I had 800 points or so. Use Aelfric's Auspices to do double elemental damage.
I just beat Winnehild without having any of the special classes unlocked. Therion (Lv.73) - Thief/Scholar ---- Surpassing Power, Patience, Elemental Augmentation, Saving Grace Primrose (Lv. 56) - Dancer/Cleric ---- Saving Grace, Eye for an Eye, Second Wind Cyrus - (Lv. 53) Scholar/Apothecary ---- Hale and Hearty, Saving Grace, Elemental Augmentation, Second Wind Ophilia - (Lv. 56) Cleric/Dancer --- Persistence, Eye for an Eye, Second Wind, Saving Grace Basically you need Prim and Oph to boost Therion to use the Scholar magic so he can perform it 2x each cast for 4 hits. Use Cy to boost his magic power. Therion shoudl have all equipment and weapons to boost his elemental ATK stat. Everyone else should have Saving Grace to over heal above their max HP. Mind you, i didnt pass Chapter 2 for ANY character yet.
There is a strategy that seems to be missed when using Tressa Runelord - Transfer Rune - Sidestep. If you happen to have any extra Transfer Rune on Tressa be sure to use Ice Rune to give your entire party the ability to deal ice damage chipping the bosses shield much faster. Extra note. With Surpassing Power on your Scholar / Sorcerer, you can deal more than 9999 damage just with the Ice Rune's Buff from Tressa. I've tested it on Cyrus/Merchant and if you properly equip him with the best Elem Atk. Weapons. He can certainly deal past that 9999 damage. Step 1: Feed your party with 6 to 9 Side Step Buffs from Tressa - Transfer Rune - Sidestep Method. Step 2: Get Winnehild's Shield Broken Step 3: Make sure Tressa has at least one or more Transfer Rune Buff. Step 4: With any Character give Tressa Energizing Pomegranate (L) to Massively Restore her BP. Step 4: Have Tressa safely use her Ice Rune MAX Buff on the entire party. With Ice Rune on every party member, they're allowed to deal extra weakness damage, and chip the shield down faster than before. There is barely any preperation prior to the battle. As long as you maintain your Tressa- Transfer Rune - Sidestep - Ice Rune, dodging every attack, and being able to buff every character with Ice Elemental Damage weakening the boss further. I used Cyrus/Merchant, Olberic/Apothecary, Ophilia/Dancer and Tressa/Runelord. To easily beat Winnehild, Just make sure you equip the best gear possible for each character. Now you could use anyone and give them the Sorcerer/Scholar/Cleric Subclass and use Tressa / Runelored for more shield chipping, and stick to the plan and Transfer Rune - SIdestep then ever so often give everyone the Ice Rune buff. Doesn't seem like this guide or any guide ever mentions Transfer Rune - Ice Rune to fully maximize Weakness and Shield Chipping damage.
Wow! Just beat this boss last night and wanted to see the trouble others had. I used H’aanit w/apothecary, Ophelia w/dancer, Therion w/warrior, and they key to my strategy: Cyrus w/merchant. After beating Devourer of Men (Forest of No Return) I had a good idea of how to fight crazy powerful bosses. I used apothecary’s divine ability to max out everyone’s Bp early. Then cleric divine on Cyrus. Everyone buffed/debuffed (leg hold, hired help1, mole dance, shackle, side step, etc. + empoison). Then I fought her sectionally: didn’t break her until ready. H’aanit used Great Kingfisher the get 2 ice hits a turn plus patience sometimes give you another atk. Ophelia used a knight who brutally used ice attacks (3hits). Cyrus hits for 4 plus on top of 9 side steps could survive 2 or 3 hits using “hang tough” with 1hp left. On last phase Ophelia used light attacks plus had almost 9k hp using her skill and Therion elemental items (L). I stopped her before Warcry and took her out. We were about mid 60lvl. Felt like I beat a Dark Souls boss! Took me 4 tries.
My strategy was basically have Olberic use Incite and boost defense. Like this even at level 47 he only took like 500-1000 after being attacked. I had two merchants on my team and used pomegranates to make sure everyone had plenty of BP. I had Ophilia use her Divine skill so my scholar tressa could attack 4 times per turn with one blizzard. And I had Ophilia use leghold trap too.( leghold is amazing against all bosses who get multiple turns) this helped me break the boss and if I got the chance I would use Olbeic’s peacok strut and Cyrus’ divine skill to boost tressa’s elemental attacks. If all goes well you can get 40K( or higher if you have surpassing power skill) with one blizzard.
I use Socecer Cyrus RuneLord Therion Starseer Ophilia WarM Olberic Maybe not opti but I dont like the other 4 char (haanit is ok tier but not as charsimatic than olberic, alfyn is useless, Tressa is annoying and Prim is boring)
Rawwkk Granados I did something similar except I had Olberic boost after Inciting so he’d only take 1k-3k damage per turn. Had two merchants and use pomegranates to make sure everyone had plenty of BP
I recommend beating the other advanced classes first before this fight (obviously), the mage classes are by far the easiest and the runelord is surprisingly easy just make it easier on yourself and dont try to substitute classes in this fight and make this your first choice
they should add more job classes or make them dlc from Final Fantasy jobs like the Gladiator,Cannoner' or my favorite class Dragoon or make Jobs based on the characters like onion knight or warrior of light or Palladin and dark night Squarenix is really missing out the opportunity for fan service
I have a quick question about a certain skill in octopath traveler it called stat swap what does it do can anyone please tell me thanks also is the transfer ability and sidestep ultimately the key to defeat the warmaster I just managed to be the Runelord and this to me at least looks like a BY FAR a much more difficult boss to defeat amazing video too thanks for uploading it
Haven’t beaten any of the main quest lines yet (on the final chapter of Cyrus’s Story) but I am trying to think ahead for who to make what Advanced Class. I know I want Tressa as my Runelord, but I can’t decide if Olberic or H’aanit should be the Warmaster. I have Olberic as an Apothecary (he is an unstoppable physical tank) and H’aanit as a Warrior (hard hitting physical attacker). Thoughts?
as a runelord tressa has an ability "Transfer Rune" every buffs that affect her will affect the entire team. So use "transfer rune" then the next turn "Sidestep"
I'd say Bologar the rune blade may be the hardest boss in the game but at the same time I think this boss fight would be much longer with a runeblade on the squad. So personal choice to be honest.
I know it's not in this video, but please answer: What is it that revives you once in a battle if you reach 0 HP? I know this status symbol. It looks like a halo with wings. Can someone tell me what that is?
Mine N Adventurer _The Aegis Boy_ she has a move called War Cry, which is attacking you with six weapons at once. Not only that, there’s a point where she gets five turns in one pass
No as you can see the effects wear off and if it was a passive then at the start of the battle the Rune lord would have the buff icon on which the Rune lord does not
Austin Kasmeier haha it's ok. Nope the skills do not really matter, Runelord does though. The whole strategy lies on Transfer + Sidestep (so you have to get runelord on Tressa) the team doesn't matter, only Tressa does.
Kiet it works on abilities that target the party too, just not abilities that target self. It works on the magic Reflect from Cleric, for example. Notably for this fight, it works on Mirror Moon from Starseer- which nullifies a single physical hit and allows a Counter. So you can stack four Mirror Moon and laugh off basically every hit from this boss if you have Starseer. It also stacks with Sidestep.
I tried mirror moon, for some reason it allows for the counter, but doesnt nullify the physical hit :/, the only one im stuck on atm cuz im kinda underleveled and keep on getting oneshot
solareflare47 oh, whoops. I read the description of the skill wrong. Regardless, you should be able to live most hits with a combination of buffed physical defense and debuffed physical attack, and some good armor. The threat to this would be Quilin’s Horn, which is just absurdly strong and can also poison. However, making use of Leghold Trap to give yourself a longer window to break her should ensure you’re not taking too many hits.
Âńdrēw Röôp yes it is! Decent damage, can hit wind, shadow and light in one spell. Damage boost to Ally Heal over time All defenses boost Reflect physical damage Also the job has a passive skill that gives more JP after battles. A great support!
this should be the last of the 4 special sub boss shrines you attempt. 1st should be runelord. Get Tressa that and then you have sidestep for your party. Also transfer rune is insanely helpful for breaks.
I did this as my first shrine and it was a nightmare and what you need is tress a as a cleric for healing, cleric divine skill and BP boost if you can do without Alfyn with dancer for occasional buffs but he will be mainly used for his concoct skill as the potent powder hits 3 elemental weaknesses and also debuffs as a side note poison does 2k a turn I had therion as scholar for elemental weaknesses but also physical attack/defense debuff And finally olbric with hunter for leg hold trap and his 1bp defense which allows him to cover all characters if needed And when you break it olbric should use his divine skill(mine hit 27k with just attack buff/no boss debufd) All characters should have pure phy Def armor but therion should have Mag attack up Make sure you finish olbric's story first for some better equipment and your olbric should have 900+phy Def I can't remember what my skills were but I do remember afterwards that it would of been a lot easier with saving grace equiped on all characters Also my characters were lvl50 and I hope this helps you if you haven't done it already
I just beat it as my first one. It's not easy.... I had boss constantly poisoned, and spent a lot of gold summoning the 30,000 gold mercenary. Alphyn had hunter, oberic apothecary, tessa thief and Theron was warrior
5 mins seem a little bit fast! It is a safe strategy, because no matter what level you are, if you have the Runelord job and can apply Sidestep to your party, you can beat this boss. Its not the fastest way but definitely the safest :)
I wish i was 99 lol. Barely 61. And i did cleared it in 5 mind all i did is do the tanks divine skill a few times and down goes the fight. My party is pure power build
Keep in mind that most players who first face this boss will probably be around early to mid 40s, this was one of the harder fights in that level range, especially if this is the 1st of the 4 shrines you face.
Warmaster already knew that you were on that bs so they instantly target tressa.
Was doing well on this fight without runelord until I got to end phase and she whipped out damned warcry that one skill wiped out an entire overhealed party lol.
Man I feel you, I was chilling when she suddenly killed my whole party and I was just like 😀
To be honest you can make life easier if you know what "Leg Hold" and "Shakle Foe" are.
Leghold works, shackle doesnt do anything when she reaches her final stage
^ this did me really well until she hit 25% and just started swinging everything 😂
I know right. I used to think it sucked but after using it against Miguel I realized it’s awesome power. Now I make sure to always have a hunter on my team.
MacMojo these skills and the 1st tier hired merchant give saving grace to me
Yep
I like how all these strategies seem to depend on you having already unlocked one of the elite classes.
RicoLen1 I was thinking the same thing this doesn't help at all
RicoLen1 I just beat it as my first one. It's not easy.... I had boss constantly poisoned, and spent a lot of gold summoning the 30,000 gold mercenary. Alphyn had hunter, oberic apothecary, tessa thief and Theron was warrior

Hey JoJo.
Knuckles the Echidna What are you doing here? Are you playing Octopath Traveler as well?
Or are you at least interested in it?
Nope I got the game 2 days ago. The game is honestly pretty amazing. A classic JRPG without all the bullshit.
Very good strategy. I even let Winnehild use her strongest attack (the one that hits 6 times on everyone) and it did nothing because I had stacked Sidestep so many times.

am I the only one that thinks Cyrus looks like Dr. Strange?
No you are not
Galdera, I’ve come to bargain!
Cyrus is pretty much anyone at this point. He look like Dr. Strange and act like Sherlock Holmes.
@@sagemastermania7169 hence, Cyrus is the JRPG version of Benedict Cumberbach
Tressa looks adorable as runelord. Much like a few JRPG heroines from back in the day.

watch the monster kill himself....
This worked for me until she hit her final stage. That shit is no joke.
Man Thank you! I struggled trying to figure out how to defeat this turd. It worked like a charm! However I used Sidestep a lot for my team too
I did it mate thanks to you!

RuneLord Tressa
Sorceror Cyrus
Starseer Primrose
WarMaster Olberic
Perfect Party Set-up
this is literally what I use
Admiral Oliri
You can replace Olberic with Therion. Therion can debuff the enemy and he can use steal SP.
If I may, who would be the healer in your party?
I use Socecer Cyrus
RuneLord Therion
Starseer Ophilia
WarM Olberic
Maybe not opti but I dont like the other 4 char (haanit is ok tier but not as charsimatic than olberic, alfyn is useless, Tressa is annoying and Prim is boring)
raf221
Runelord goes so well with Tressa.
She can use sidestep and rest on everyone with Transfer Rune.
Maybe I over did it with 10 sidesteps, but I've learned that these bosses will kick you down if you slip up a turn! Thanks for this guide!
If anyone is having trouble just use warrior Tressa (incite + sidestep), shackle foe and keep party healed in case of AoE
Rawwkk Granados I did something similar except I had Olberic boost after Inciting so he’d only take 1k-3k damage per turn. Had two merchants and use pomegranates to make sure everyone had plenty of BP

How to easily take one almost impossible class? By having another almost unnatainable class. Aplaud everyone,ty
you can beat up dreisang and steorra with sealticge’s seduction (dancer divine) + reflective veil (cleric move)
Note: Tressa and the rune lord class make this fight much easier
Tressa: Fucking dies
they should add more job classes or make them dlc from Final Fantasy jobs like the Gladiator,Cannoner' or my favorite class Dragoon or make Jobs based on the characters like onion knight or warrior of light or Palladin and dark night
Squarenix is really missing out the opportunity for fan service
Thank you for this 🙏 This boss went from almost bullshit to a joke real quick haha
Tressa went to become a merchant and came back home a runelord...
Had like 10k or less left then she just went nuts made my whole team unconscious then just did like 5 aoe attacks like the spans of 5 seconds
Beat the boss without having anys special jobs on any of my characters lol
I can't believe this was the shrine i tried to target first of the 4
i lose every time when the boss is full weapon...
When I fought them,
level 64 Olberic Warrior/Apothecary (with Surpass Power)
level 60 Therion Thief/Hunter (with Patience)
Level 60 Ophelia Cleric/Dancer
Level 61 Cyrus Scholar/Sorcerer
Sorcerer breaks defense
Therion armor corrosive
Ophelia Lion Dance Olberic
Brand's Thunder (46k Damage with Forsaken Sword)
Therion Patience Proc (Pomegranate L Use on Olberic)
Next Turn Olberic Brand's Thunder (46k Damage)
Everyone else bursts down
victory
Where is the forsaken sword?
@@scatterbrained1117 Stonegard, you buy it using Tressa the merchant from a man outside the equipment shop
That or from the Refuge Ruins in a chest (level 50 dungeon) in the riverlands overworld area
I don't get it how everyone make sooo much damage and I just like 9000 ;-;
If you get the 4th skill from the warrior class you get 'surpassing power' which removes that damage cap
After this... bp starseer passive on warmaster. Then cleric divine on warmaster and do warmaster divine bp 4 and kill eberything lol
cleric divine doesn’t work on other divines lol
I visit this place 2x,
then the access near the bridge destroyed (Idk how)
So I cant play this boss again T_T
is someone know why?
You brave doing this without Saving Grace
Took me like 8 or 10 trys to beat this shrine. My main character was lv 61
It only took me 2 tries with level 55 people. Sorcerers being able to attack twice with Cleric divine skill is OP
The zsDUGGZ that was my strategy too. Had Olberic boost and incite to take all damage for the team
Literally a super powerful female version of Gilgamesh
I have a quick question about a certain skill in octopath traveler it called stat swap what does it do can anyone please tell me thanks also is the transfer ability and sidestep ultimately the key to defeat the warmaster I just managed to be the Runelord and this to me at least looks like a BY FAR a much more difficult boss to defeat amazing video too thanks for uploading it
theres a strategy that seems she will be missed

Pfft that brands thunder only did 6k damage? Mine does over 20k (because I have battle-tested blade)
This boss destroyed me in a few secs
This boss easy with Runelord Theresa.
How were you able to have sidestep affect the entire party instead of just the user?
as a runelord tressa has an ability "Transfer Rune" every buffs that affect her will affect the entire team. So use "transfer rune" then the next turn "Sidestep"
@@kiet91 ahh nice thanks
So i should get runelord first?
Absolutely, Runelord makes the fight way easier, without a runelord I consider this boss the hardest.
Runelord Tressa is a god send. This is one of the hard ones with the Sorcerer being easiest. For me, Runeblade was the hardest.
I'd say Bologar the rune blade may be the hardest boss in the game but at the same time I think this boss fight would be much longer with a runeblade on the squad. So personal choice to be honest.
How are they doing so much damage with the runes? My characters are 20~ levels above them and not doing close to 9999
The game does us bad...
How do you miss so many attack from her?
I know it's not in this video, but please answer:
What is it that revives you once in a battle if you reach 0 HP?
I know this status symbol. It looks like a halo with wings.
Can someone tell me what that is?
I believe it's Encore, the fourth dancer passive
Kiet Ah okay, I see.
Thank you. That's it exactly.
Can you beat her without an advanced class?
Hello! What i do to gain this item to recover sp in claric?
Flávio Muniz hi, there is the dancer passive and a necklace you can buy to Tressa's father iirc
i think the passive on the dancer is called second wind.
Second wind dancer support skill highly recommended on your sorcerer, cleric, and scholar classes
How does Ophilia heal 1500+ from heal wounds? Also, what are your characters levels?
A lot of Elemental Defense!
Why cast spells with cyrus when you have elemental runes on his weapons that deal 9999 a hit, versus 4-6k a spell?
He use spells because it hit's 3 times, that breaks the shields faster
All you have to do is use Alfyn and Saving Grace. Most OP strategy ever
Mugen S. I first try killed all the super bosses with that strategy. It is pure op getting over 5000 hp per character constantly.
i did that too but Winnehild just brought me down from 9999 all the way down to 1400 in a single turn
Wow The Edge ... what? How?
Mine N Adventurer _The Aegis Boy_ she has a move called War Cry, which is attacking you with six weapons at once. Not only that, there’s a point where she gets five turns in one pass
shayminister 492 That's why you *GOTTA BREAK HER* if you break her before she activates her ultimate attack she can't use it.
Hahaha fight starts tressa one shotted
Also is the Shadowy/Icey Pursuit a passive skill?
No as you can see the effects wear off and if it was a passive then at the start of the battle the Rune lord would have the buff icon on which the Rune lord does not
Sorry to ask you again for help but is Rune lord and These equip support skills you showed us suppose to help beat war master?
Austin Kasmeier haha it's ok. Nope the skills do not really matter, Runelord does though. The whole strategy lies on Transfer + Sidestep (so you have to get runelord on Tressa) the team doesn't matter, only Tressa does.
Okay and i did manage to get Rune lord and star seer. So i guess i won't be needing Alfyn for this fight. But will star seer for Ophilia be alright?
Austin Kasmeier gratz, starseer is perfect for Ophilia, I did that too
Should i have her be a star seer for this fight or keep her as a dancer?
I beat the war master! your strategy worked like a charm. She was totally helpless from the attacks my party was putting out. Best. strategy. ever.

Ok -._-.
Can you transfer sidestep with the dancer divine skill?
No, it only works for offensive abilities :/
Kiet it works on abilities that target the party too, just not abilities that target self. It works on the magic Reflect from Cleric, for example.
Notably for this fight, it works on Mirror Moon from Starseer- which nullifies a single physical hit and allows a Counter. So you can stack four Mirror Moon and laugh off basically every hit from this boss if you have Starseer. It also stacks with Sidestep.
good to know, thanks!
What did your ophilia had equipped on her to be able to heal 1600?!
Johnny Cullin a lot of elemental defense (it increases heal effect)
how are you doing 9999 damage?
Why is your Ophelia such a high level in comparison to the rest of the team?
She was my main character so I couldn't swap her and I wanted to exp all my characters at the same level but Ophilia was always in the group.
Hey is the starseer good and worth putting on a team
Âńdrēw Röôp yes it is! Decent damage, can hit wind, shadow and light in one spell.
Damage boost to Ally
Heal over time
All defenses boost
Reflect physical damage
Also the job has a passive skill that gives more JP after battles. A great support!
Thx for the help man!
Buffed out cyrus with shooting stars ftw
If you combine the starseer buffs with the dancer divine skill, you never have to worry about your bp and defence :P
As someone who is trying this as their first shrine.. not that helpful
Stupafly XD right?
this should be the last of the 4 special sub boss shrines you attempt. 1st should be runelord. Get Tressa that and then you have sidestep for your party. Also transfer rune is insanely helpful for breaks.
' how to beat warmaster after you beat everything else ' ....... It should be damn well easy....
I did this as my first shrine and it was a nightmare and what you need is tress a as a cleric for healing, cleric divine skill and BP boost if you can do without
Alfyn with dancer for occasional buffs but he will be mainly used for his concoct skill as the potent powder hits 3 elemental weaknesses and also debuffs as a side note poison does 2k a turn
I had therion as scholar for elemental weaknesses but also physical attack/defense debuff
And finally olbric with hunter for leg hold trap and his 1bp defense which allows him to cover all characters if needed
And when you break it olbric should use his divine skill(mine hit 27k with just attack buff/no boss debufd)
All characters should have pure phy Def armor but therion should have Mag attack up
Make sure you finish olbric's story first for some better equipment and your olbric should have 900+phy Def I can't remember what my skills were but I do remember afterwards that it would of been a lot easier with saving grace equiped on all characters
Also my characters were lvl50 and I hope this helps you if you haven't done it already
I just beat it as my first one. It's not easy.... I had boss constantly poisoned, and spent a lot of gold summoning the 30,000 gold mercenary. Alphyn had hunter, oberic apothecary, tessa thief and Theron was warrior
This fight isn't that long, you made it look harder the way you are doing it. I cleared it in 5 mins
what level were you? 99?
5 mins seem a little bit fast! It is a safe strategy, because no matter what level you are, if you have the Runelord job and can apply Sidestep to your party, you can beat this boss. Its not the fastest way but definitely the safest :)
I wish i was 99 lol. Barely 61. And i did cleared it in 5 mind all i did is do the tanks divine skill a few times and down goes the fight. My party is pure power build
I also have the battle tested blade with him so that helps my dps alot with him.
Keep in mind that most players who first face this boss will probably be around early to mid 40s, this was one of the harder fights in that level range, especially if this is the 1st of the 4 shrines you face.
