    Got news for you the egr is not what’s .putting all that buildup in the intake. It’s the pvc system that sucks the oily air directly into the intake tube and blows it through the intercooler leaving oil all over it then right up to the intake which has the egr valve on it. When the oil filled air hit the hot exhaust in the egr it cooks and hardens. Removing the egr is a good thing but you need to close off the pvc system also. Just put a small filter on the cam cover where the hose is and you have it done right.

    The egr is not used to burn again the exhaust gases, it is used to lower the temperature in the combustion chamber in order to generate less nitrogen oxides (not only pollutants but also dangerous for health).
    Finally, the MIL (malfunction indicator light) comes on because the ECU detects an excess of polluting emissions that may be due to a fault in:
    - Oxygen sensor
    - Injectors
    - Spark plugs (gasoline)
    - Catalyst

    I tried this simple trick and well before i came across this video but for me the whole idea was to keep the engine internals cleaner by eliminating the soot from the exhaust to come back into contact with the oil thereby making it mukky, but what i noticed first after doing that was the engine ran quite hotter than usual and it smoked a lot more plus im not a fan of the engine mil, so i put everything bank and what i do now is regularly clean my egr and i noticed that even if i do it once every year, it doesnt clog up like i see in the videos, just a light spray of mineral terpentine and a rub with a dust cloth does the trick.

      You found it! EGR is not only trouble, it has his purpose, to cool exhaust gases and thus reduce NOx emissions. On my 94 Audi, makes no difference, but in modern engines.... naa!

    • @zefzone-215
      @zefzone-215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@CRBN74 Wait what? With a normal functioning EGR there is an EGR cooler. You are taking the heat out of the exhaust and putting it into the coolant/ cylinder head... So it's actually heating the cylinder head, where as if you took the EGR and cooler out, the heat would go out the exhaust.

    • @CRBN74
      @CRBN74 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@zefzone-215 The EGR system works by returning a small portion of exhaust gas to the engine's combustion chambers through the intake manifold, lowering combustion temperatures and therefore reducing the amount of NOx emitted. The EGR valve is the main component of the EGR system and it's normally closed.
      What you mention is to cool the exhaust gases being admitted to the intake to improve the volumetric efficiency, similar to what an intercooler does on turbine compressed air.
      Lowering combustion temperature is the function of an EGR system. It's worthless to discuss it. It's why it is used as a way to reduce NOx emissions witch are cancerous.

    • @zefzone-215
      @zefzone-215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@CRBN74 You didn't have to explain EGR and NOx. I wrench on cars, I'm fully aware. Furthermore, you are wrong. Atmospheric air is cooler than the cooled recirculated exhaust (ie. if you removed the EGR altogether). There are plenty of TDI forums suggesting moving to a higher thermostat because their engine ran so cool without an EGR system.
      Furthermore it is kind of is worth discussing because you have the fundamentals wrong. The EGR works to reduce emissions because it's recirculating inert exhaust gas into the intake, a small amount of combustion gases that lack oxygen reduce the combustion temperature. Introducing recirculated exhaust gases that have been brought down to coolant temp (190F) and introduced into the intake is not a "cooling effect" for combustion.

    • @xperformxperformance8039
      @xperformxperformance8039 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zefzone-215 you have no clue on what are you talking about dont you ? The reason why the engine may run cooler when you remove the egr its beacause thermostat wont let the engine overheat by stayin longer in open position and with the time this will stres the shit out the cooling system which will have to work way harder than usual. EGR does help in maintaing an optimal operating temperature for the engine.

    Deleting the EGR is not a good idea. The new direct injection diesels are designed with the EGR (It is not a clapped on after thought it is part of the engine) to run at lower combustion temperatures. The EGR cools the recirculated gasses and lowers the combustion temperatures in the combustion chambers which are situated in the tops of the pistons. This allows the new Vw engine to achieve a much higher torque (turning power) at lower RPM. Let these combustion temperatures rise and you will soon be back to the days of cracked cyclinder heads and failing pistons, as combustion now takes place in these piston tops and not in the head or above the piston as they used to be. The new engines are 16 valve diesels and so the valves are smaller, which means they can get over heated and cause un timed ignition. You will also lose some of the torque characteristics that enable high gearing these vehicles have.
    Recirculating exhaust has always been a messy affair, but unfortunately this is how diesels have evolved to comply with emissions. At least once in the life of the car up to 100,000 miles you can expect to replace an EGR, and at the same time remove the inlet manifold and other effected piping etc and steam clean/pressure wash this out also. Lastly it is illegal to delete emissions equipment on vehicles in most countries in the Western world. I myself looked into the deleting of EGR and in my research learned why not to.

      @@michaelscarbz3094 A lot of people have been getting the fundamentals of EGR incorrect here lol. It can be worked out with a simple question. What is cooler, ambient air (80-130F) or EGR exhaust brought down to coolant temp (190F)? The purpose of EGR is to introduce "inert" gases that lower the combustion temperature which is the point that's correct. But it's the fact that the EGR provides inert gas, not that it is cooling the exhaust recirculation. The EGR cooler takes the heat out of the exhaust and dumps it to the cylinder head. There have been many stories of people removing the EGR system and their engines all run significantly cooler.

When I got time I'm gonna take EGR out and clean it properly and conect again. EGR is helping reducing NOX gas from engine, NOX is very harmful to lungs, its very cancerogenic unfortunatly.

    There is a much easier method. Simply insert a steel ball inside the tube, push it in 2cm and put the tube back in the actuator. Even better if you do it near the vacuum supply and you will avoid any vacuum loss is case you have a leaking solenoid or tube. I did it in my B4 Audi 80TDI to solve a solenoid leak stealing vacuum from brake servo. I would have changed the valve but it's an exotic model that i found no replacement.

      Not true. In theory you get higher mileage, but it's hardly noticeable. The exhaust has nothing to do with it. The egr only works at low rpm and shuts down on higher. Removing it you'll get better acceleration and thus better fuel economy since you won't need to press the gas pedal as much to accelerate to the same speed.

Look for a video for catch can install. This is what I did.

    First of all if you want to get rid of egr instead of cleaning it read carefully what it really does. And never do anything like this guy. In theory you can end up with blowed off engine head. If after reading and understanding what EGR does you still want to get rid of it (you want to be stupid street racer who doesn't get petrol car, or you just didn't get what egr does, or you want to get rid of egr in petrol car) YOU SHOULD GET TO THE MECHANIC. Because egr isn't only pipe or vacuum tube. It's programmed in your engine control unit. And that unit expects it to work. When it's not working eventually ecu will notice it, and best case scenario you end up with lack of power, worse case, really weak engine and praying to get to the nearest garage, worst case (in theory, because i didn't saw that in practice) blown off engine head.
