- This is an introduction on how to replace the 2012 Chevy Camaro Heater Blend Door (OEM Part Number: 92215212) without removing the dashboard and windshield (Stealership wants to charge you $3,000 to $3,500 for this job. Total Do-It-Yourself cost for this job, around $50 dollars and plenty of patients.
Things you will need:
1- Dremel tool with LED light (Hyper Tough 8-Volt Lithium Ion Rotary Tool with 40 Accessories at Wal-Mart $$24.83 see link below.

I will provide step by step instructions.
To get the dash out of the new Camaros requires removal of the windshield. This is because of long bolts that hold the dash to the firewall that do NOT clear the windshield.

It started with a clicking in the dash then I noticed a burning smell when I would change the climate in the car and only when i mess with the climate side (from hot to cold), is that the actuator burning up because of the blend door broke?, maybe stuck in a odd position?, the heat and air both blow out the same temp no matter if I have the air on or not? would this be the blender door or something else?
I can suffer the heat but winters is coming , please comment and let me know what you think, thank you

Is there only one blend door and one blend door actuator? my driver side air works properly but the passenger side will not get hot so I’m not sure how to diagnose the problem. Any idea?

, P.O. Box 33136, Detroit, MI 48323-5136. Complaining about this engineering defect may be just maybe if we all did this the eater Blend Door (OEM Part Number: 92215212) would be on a recalled list for many of the Chevrolet and GMC vehicles.
I have already written to them and got a response with a case number, however since the warranty is out on my 2012 Anniversary Edition, Convertible Camaro, they wanted me to pay for the repair.
So, just think about it for a moment. There is power in numbers and the more people who write into the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center and complain about this costly repair. Then they may make a recall for this engineering defect.
yeah I have the save problem with my 45th anniversary. I'm so pissed how much it will cost to get to a 40 dollar part. it's stupid. I wrote them also. they seem to not care. they act like it not a mass problem. I bet there is

Hey, Mike great job! Will you be posting your reinstall anytime soon? Please do. Today we took our 2012 Camaro to the dealership. Diagnosis: Removed drivers side floor duct. Removed temperature door actuator. When actuator was removed found door fell in HVAC case. I'm assuming they're referring to the blend door. Price: $2000.00 plus a windshield if they break it! Wow! Thank you for your help.
This is a common issue. Are you going to do the repairs or have the stealership do the repairs?

just for future reference the dealership sometimes calls the temp blend door a "hvac temperature valve"
So I am having a similar issue it seems. My 2012 Camaro will blow cool(ish) air from drivers side vents and warm air from passenger vents when the AC is on. Would the blend door actuator mentioned in this video be the 1st place to start?
Looks like someone mentioned that will be a mode actuator issue instead. I am dealing with the same thing right now, and trying to figure it out.

samuel salvador ...if you need help while doing this project let me know. ..remember when you install the new blend door, 1- connect the actuator (to the harness,not to the blend door) to the set its position. 2, make sure the temperature setting is all the way to the heat setting. Reason for this, gravity will make the blend door drop. Which is the warm setting. Good luck.
Mike Hardial. How can you tell if the actuator is bad?
jeffrey miller , just remove the actuator from the blend, but keep it connected to the wire harness. Change the temperature setting from hot to cold or cold to hot, , the actuator should rotate.if it doesn't, then its bad.
Mike Hardial. Mike I went underneath and held it and it feels like it's rotating but I can't hear the door opening or closing. Also before it almost sounded like a thump when the ac was was turned on . I no longer hear that. Any suggestions ?? Freaking roasting in florida

No heat on my 2011 camaro. I flush the heater core and that didn't work. Then ran the car and I notice to coolant going to the heater core. Is this the same issue you're having?

Did you cut the box on driver side only or all the way across to the passenger side?..also did you cut around the actuator too?..i cant see how you got the blend door out
Thanks for the video it inspired me to do mines. My blend door fell/broke on my 2013 camaro and I did not agree with the dealers price..... . My project went well the only thing that gave me a issue was installing the vent once compled
I am glad you were able to do the repair. I had the same issue with the vent as well. Took me a whole day. But now that I know the angle, 5 minutes tops. Anyway, congrats. You save yourself a ton of money compare to stealership repair cost.
Most definitely I completed it in a few hours.. Cutting was ez but the angle of the vent and computer were complicated.. Im sure it's going to be a recall in the near future but it's cold in NY so waiting wasn't a option.. Hopefully it will save others as well
MR2NITE yeah I have a 2013 as well I contacted Chevy about it after my estimate from the dealer. They are going to try to help out with the price. But this failing within this time is horrible. I see why a people are selling their gen 5 because of the hvac issue.
Carl Rodgers I understand your frustration especially when it's freezing cold ❄. If the dealer will assist in the price then take a shot.. But to be honest doing it yourself or have a local machanic go the route me and the guy in the video 👆🏾 went will save you a lot of money.. I was debating at first then when I heard the price and thought about what else I could put that $ towards I took my shot at it and succeeded.. My ac/heat is working excellent.
MR2NITE hello there..i have the same issue on my 2014 camaro..mike never reallly specified as to where to cut..did you cut around the actuator or just a straight line from it then to the bottom..can you explain the cut procedure...much appreciated thx
There are videos on how to attach exacto blade to a soldering irons.
Can you please let me know what tools was used and draw me a diagram of what was cut, because I'm going to have to go this route with my wife's car
Does anybody know the the actual cut that he made to take off to get inside. It would of been nice if some one had put up a more completed video. If I get this working I'll put up something so everybody is not left in the dark.

Luis Aguilar ...I had heat on both side, mix hot and cold air.
I have worked on my gf car that had the same issue like what you mentioned ( cold air on driver side and warm or hot air on passenger side). The faults passenger actuator was defective and the evaporator coil had a slow small leak. The fix for her car, , replaced the driver side actuator and the evaporator.
Mike Hardial the problem with my car is when i turn the vents i hear a small clump noise. And the vents lag to swich from defrost to floor and center vents. But when its hot i get hot air on the drivers side and cold air during the a.c. is the acuator by the gas pedal?
Luis Aguilar , the actuator that controls the vents movement (not the blend door) is located next to the blend door actuator on the top right hand side ( driver side, right hand side of the radio) .
Mike Hardial, i will try that first but I also suspect the door as the dearler said they want 1500 to replace it lol Ill try this method
Luis Aguilar. ..check the actuators and the blend door, thats the only way to be sure. Its not hard to check since you have access to it. Little room to work but still have access to it.
Best way to cut it is heating up a knife and cutting it like butter

Was there heat coming from the passenger side before you fixed it? I have no heat on the passenger side but heat on the driver side same for all vents defrost and floor also
Andrew Critzer , I had heat coming from both sides. You might just have a problem with the passenger side actuator. The passenger actuator is located on the right hand side of the radio console. Its easy to access. Remove it and turn on the heat and then the a.c. to see if it rotates.

Andrew Critzer , nothing to remove. You can see the actuator on the passenger side. Just remove the actuator two screws.
Is there a difference between the passenger and driver actuators?
Mike, I'm not seeing it either. Does this apply only if you have dual zone control? I don't.

kevins vlog that is normally due to the actuator. To isolate which actuator is working. Change the temperate setting and see which side is working properly.

kevins vlog. The actuator is very easy to install. Two screws. First isolate which actuator is not functioning.
Mike Hardial I believe it's going to be the driver side because when I turn on my heater the passenger side is hot and the driver side is cold. Same for my windshield and feet only cold air comes out.
That is an easy fix.,to confirm
Go under the driver side dash board and look on the right side of the middle console.,you will see the actuator.,remove the two screws. Keep the actuator connected and change the temp.,if the actuator does not rotate, then it is confirmed to be defective. Easy fix.

Sorry I don't have any documents. Just cut around the area I mentioned and you will be able to remove the broken blend door and install the new one.
What part is it #18 Or #17 on the diagram sheet ?

Hi samuel salvador , yours is definitely the blend door. I had the exact same issue, just the hole and no blend door. The blend door broke at the connection peace and it fell down inside the housing.

As a full service tech working for a shop this is never the way to do this repair. Taking short cuts will always lead to more issues. Take the dash out and do the repair the right way do not listen to this guy..... if removing the dash is out of your skill level take it to a shop let a professional do the job right..
