    I'm not an artist but, when I close my eyes and then open to look at the painting, I've no idea what it is other than its very colorful. I don't see trees and mountains.

    Once again, another beautiful painting. I love to watch you paint as it reinforces working from dark to light, in large shapes down to smaller details and especially the constant reminders that I need to train myself not to just see color, but to see color temperature. And as you speak/teach, you are always referring to temperature which is a complete retraining of how I see things. I appreciate the reminders. I also like that you take "artistic license" because without it, to me, we are just serving up a painted version of a photograph. In my opinion, that freedom produces a much more pleasant finished product.

    I think I'm beginning to get your style now, which I love by the way. You exaggerate the temperature of the cool and warm colours to create a lot of colour and contrast. I like it when you show the reference photo so I can see how much you are deviating from it.

    Hi Malcolm, you were kind enough to recommend Rosemary & Co Cryla acrylic brushes - they are absolutely unavailable to me here in the States. Also tried long flat Isacryl with no availability. Thank you for any other recommendations you
    may have.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Daler Rowney Cryla if possible. Also Winsor & Newton. If all fails then the best you can find is the best you can get 👍

    I’m brand new to oil painting (painting in general). Do you just wipe the brush between colors, or are you dipping in solvent every time? I like your method of painting.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wiping the brush every few strokes is the key. Very occasionally clean it in solvent, but then make sure to dry the brush well. Solvent traces ruins paint.

    Malcolm, do you use any medium while painting?

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      None in the paints. A little white spirits to clean off the brush occasionally. Now I'm using Zest-It which is non-toxic version of spirits.
