2 years ago, during Passover, I took my fam to Lancaster County, where we went on an authentic Amish buggy tour. Since it was Passover, most everybody there was Jewish. One fellow asked our buggy driver, "If we were to knock on an Amish family's door and ask to see an authentic Amish home, would they let us in?" I thought (but was not ridiculous enough to say aloud), "If some random stranger knocked on your door asking to see an authentic Jewish home, would you let him in?"
Like our vlogger here, I would be fine if someone just came over and asked for something to drink or perhaps a snack and then, while munching away, said that s/he'd always been curious about the dynamics of Jewish families, but don't expect that somebody of a different culture will ever open up their own home as your personal museum tour.
I often get the feeling that with a handicap everyone can see, you are not believed to have private sphere. You'd be surprised by what strangers all say and want to know...
Some people are just more curious than polite (like a child). (Also the parasocial relationship a creator might play a role.) Might be better he addressed it than having people speculate. There should be no shame in bodily functions and no one wanted him literally filming himself pee.

Actually, as a former surgical nurse, I was more curious about your hips. I can totally see how the rest of you that people are inordinately curious about, are complete and functional - I wonder about your operation and how much (if any) of the upper leg or socket was kept intact, or if you're literally sitting on your pelvis. Please ignore if this is too personal. You are a genuinely lovely, open person, and I'm sure when kids ask questions, you're - excuse the pun - completely straight with them.

Just pull my pants down and as i said i sit my behind on the seat and do my bussiness as usual and wipe down as same as others. My biggest problems is that some people ask and at time, some can get annoying and thankfully, its not all of them and yes it can get anyoing when you've been ask so many times before. Cause some dont seem to be able to grasps the fact some keep asking very rudely or while we are with family members or friends or a date. Im 57 and yeah, heard and seen some pretty weird stuff. All im asking is, please be discret and dont be annoyed if we dont answer all of your questions at this precise moment. Please be patient because that person may be new with his/her disabylity and that person may need time to work some things out and may not be comfortable with answering your questions. So please be patient with them cause they may still need to find their way and bearings.

Well, there are a few things we as humans all do, eat sleep poop. These basic needs connect us as animals,so when we see a variation in those things we want to know how/why and we want to know if our fellow human is "alright".

OMG YES I genuinely cried a little at your crash course in how to ask someone these questions. I'm autistic enough to be disabled by it and sometimes it's kind of obvious, I might talk to myself in public a bit too loudly, make strange noises (audio stimming) or move in a weird way (kinetic stimming) and I often wear disability lanyards and stuff to identify me as, yk, disabled, not just on meth. And I always welcome questions and I always say "just ask, we prefer the asking to those looks we get when people want to ask but don't know how" and I really really want to normalize "just ask"ing but also yeah it needs to be done in the right way and I appreciate that no everyone knows what the right way is (I didn't know myself until I watched a video similar to yours years ago).
Also for people wondering yeah it counts for most sensitive subjects not just disability. If a dude walks up to me and says "hey this is gonna sound weird but can I ask you some questions about your experiences as a woman?" I'll probably say yes. Basically it's about informed consent, specifically giving the person you're talking to the ability to give informed consent for the sensitive conversation you want to have, or not. Like yeah sure kinda weird sometimes but hey if you're polite and I know what I'm getting myself into I'm probably gonna say yes just because you were polite about it, if someone randomly comes up to me and says "oh hey! I do that too! Are you autistic as well?!" it's different. I mean not for me 'cause I'm basically a Labrador in a human costume I'll b e friends with anyone but you know what I mean.

@@scj7408 it depends on who you ask. For some, the torso is the human body minus the arms, legs, and head. For others, the waist/hips are a separate part. I’m honestly not sure which is scientifically correct
Yup. When he started showing Gone and Gone 2, i was convinced he wasn't just missing legs but also his pelvis and a good bit of organs. So yeah it looked to me he didnt even have parts of his intestines and i did wonder: how do you even take up nutrients, how do you pass stool, do you even make stool?
Maybe its because his pecs and shoulders are so wide?

Lmao my auntie got one of her legs amputated and we visited her in hospital, and my mam said something about putting her special boot on the leg which was amputated. I don’t remember exactly what was said it’s been like 3 and a half years.

As someone born with an invisible heart defect and then had open heart surgery, I was never able to articulate my thoughts the way you just did. It was so hard explaining what happened because this surgery wasn’t common back in the 70’s and being a child with a freakishly large scar running down your body scared almost everyone. I just want to thank you for the words you spoke. They’re a gentle guiding light to navigate through the strange questions curious people ask.

Thank you for so graciously explaining how questions from the abled people sometimes appear. I have an invisible disability and often get intrusive questions about my service dog. I don't handle them as well as you do. Thanks for your example.
I love this guys positive and open attitude to answering these questions and educating everyone, it really gives me a whole new perspective on people who have to live with these disabilities.

What people often fail to realize is that if when you see/meet a disabled/different person you go to them and ask about their situation/make a comment about them, that is a few minutes of your life. But if every person the disabled/different person meets does that, can you imagine what their life becomes? How frustrating it is to continually hear the same comments around you or to continually have to answer questions?
Some people might have a natural inclination to teaching and sharing, but some others might well not! Don't make someone's life more difficult that it is to satisfy your curiosity, unless you have the impression they might appreciate your interest or you wouldn't be able to find this sort of information anywhere else and you're dying to know and you can think of a nice, tactful, not imposing way to ask! Even though I assure you there's plenty of people on the internet willing to share about their lives to help other people understand. Maybe more willing that the random person you meet just going on with their lives on the street 😉

My sister is a redhead while everyone else in the family had dark hair, and my mother was asked by several random stranger "what did the father think". I mean, how can you ask such a question?! So really, the concept of people making absurdly intruding questions is not so foreign to me.
I just pointed out how even the more kindly expressed, genuinely curious and well-meaning questions could have in the longer run a negative effect and that we should all consider before asking 😉

Thank you. I’m disabled too, and usually I just want to get on with my day, not answer 20 questions about my crutches before I have even left the first shop… it’s okay to ask questions politely, but it’s also okay to hear “no” and “sort I’m busy right now” as responses.
Especially when being disabled makes us extra vulnerable, and I have personally had people get really aggressive when I tried to politely explain I was busy… it’s scary!

@@longestfuneralever Basically the vibe you give off. Or to say when you meet someone, it's the impression your brain is getting of said person. Like when someone you meet, you get a bad feeling or when you meet someone you feel safe around them.
I think the reason this question is asked so often is because of the length of your body (for lack of a better term/description). It looks as if your body ends at mid-torso or just end the bellybutton. That gives the illusion that anything below the bellybutton is missing.
Thank you for so willingly and graciously answering this any other questions that come your way. What an inspiration you are to everyone. There is nothing better in a man (with or without legs, eggplant, limes or peach) than a sense of humor.
Yess. This is my thought as well. As in I believe he doesn't have any "junk" cause of where his body ends
I think it’s probably due to atrophy of muscles that would be anchored into lower limbs and added bulk to those for the upper limbs and torso that give the illusion of his body ending mid torso. It’s surprising how many muscles the body uses to move your legs, and how those muscles and those bones they anchor to contribute to body shape.
Yeah, I wrongly assumed he didn’t have a pelvis. This explains so much.
It made sense, but I'm still wondering if resting upright (standing) puts pressure on his genitals at all since they would be the lowest point on his body.

i'm disabled. i have osteogenesis imperfecta. i'm REALLY glad you added that point at the end, because the number of times i've had complete strangers come up to me randomly at the bus stop or on the street or in bars and ask me completely inappropriate, disrespectful, and rude questions is just insane.
if you see me at the bus stop with headphones on, or you see me engaged in a conversation with a friend at a bar, for the love of god please do not interrupt me or make me take my headphones off to say something like "what's wrong with you" or "are you a midget or a dwarf" or "does your dick work?". yes, i have had strangers in bars interrupt me to ask me about my penis. don't do that.

I've probably been rude in a form, I went to a haunted house attraction, and I was staring intensely at a guy who was carrying another guy around, the man carrying the one guy around sets him on a table, and the dude looked like the guy in this video. ( These weren't people apart of the haunted house, just visitors like me. ) But I couldn't stop glancing at the guy, I never approached him. But I was dying to ask how it happened.

i can't speak for every disabled person, but i can always feel someone staring at me and it doesn't feel good. i'd much prefer talking about it as long as the person approaching me isn't an asshole. but i'm a dirty punk rock weirdo on top of being smol and disabled, so i guess i'm extra unapproachable tbh. which is ironic because i'm pretty gregarious lmao.

My grandpa was runover by a train, that he used to "ride" to school. He miraculously didn't die but lost both legs, and somehow lived to tell the tale. He did have his wooden and then his aluminum prosthetics, farmed, raised 12 kids, 2 wars and the dustbowl years who knows what else! Always use my ancestors example as a source of strength and resourcefulness in my disability struggles. You are an excellent ancestor to someone

Yes, this is obviously the reason. There are others that have amputated as much as he has (there's this motivational speaker for example that I can't remember the name of) , but they have a much longer torso so it looks less "confusing". It looks like this guy was amputated below the ribcage, but I assume that is because of his disorder he mentioned. He said his legs weren't working even as a small child, so I guess his lower body couldn't grow properly. While his arms and everything else grew into an adult. This then gives the image of him having been amputated far higher up than he actually is

I think it's because he's "laying" on his belly area, but because he's got a shirt covering him, it looks like he's just balancing on his rib cage area.
Due to his condition (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caudal_regression_syndrome), his spine didn’t develop properly. It’s possible that he’s missing some vertebrae and ribs, which would shorten his torso.
I'd be mortified to walk up to someone and ask them anything about their disabilities. I just except things and people for who they are. If we all looked the same it would be boring.

That's the part I don't get either. His torso seems too short to hold his lower vital organs and intestines. It seems to end around his belly button, not his hips. From his explanation, he has pelvic bones and his legs are gone at the joints. I'm still confused but so be it. He's quite amazing.
@@lemon1657 That is because he is resting/ sitting on his ribcage which is why the rest of his upper body isn't visible.
(I have found a video form 3 years ago where he explained how he swims without legs and he propped himself up and in that moment you could clearly see his stomach. After that he lowered himself back down on his ribcage which is why i am assuming that this is how he usually sits/rests. Correct me if i am wrong please
